    (Lander, WY) – KOVE 1330 AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time host Vince Tropea recently spoke with Alan O'Hashi, longtime Lander resident, Wyoming native, author, documentarian, journalist and public speaker (Alan's done a little bit of it all). O'Hashi will be at the Lander Pioneer Museum tonight, 7:00 PM, to give a presentation on Japanese Internment camps during World War II, ones like Heart Mountain located between Powell and Cody. That subject matter is the focus of his recently published book 'Beyond Heart Mountain,' which also covers how his family "avoided life in internment camps such as Heart Mountain," as well as the "overt and quiet racism pervasive there and throughout the United States and relates his experiences to current struggles and the issue of civility within society." h/t 'Beyond Heart Mountain' book image, written by Alan O'Hashi In addition to sharing details about the book, tonight's presentation, and some future documentary projects, O'Hashi recounted various moments from a truly fascinating life, including: his time on the Lander City Council; his work as a journalist for the Wyoming State Journal; his efforts to maintain the cultural significance of his grandfather's pool hall in Cheyenne, which according to O'Hashi, had a vibrant Japanese community; and much much more.     (Lander, WY) – KOVE 1330 AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time host Vince Tropea recently chatted with Lander Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) Chief Chief Bobby Johnston, along with past Chief, Captain and 23-year-member Jeremy Bingaman, about this year's Wyoming State Firemen's Association Convention. The annual convention, which just concluded its 89th year, moves around the state each year, with this year's taking place in Lander (next year will be in Riverton). Bingaman served as the Wyoming State Firemen's Association President this year, which also changes yearly based on where the competition is being held. Bingaman shared the history of the event and gave us a breakdown of some of the competitions at the convention, and both discussed the camaraderie that comes with becoming a firefighter and competing with like-minded folks from around the state. In addition to talking about the convention, Chief Johnston also chatted about how folks can have a safe 4th of July, and the overall need for more volunteer firefighters.     (Lander, WY) – Dennis Vogler and Jeff Kimber, two of the organizers for this weekend's Wings N' Wheels Fly-In Air Show & Car Show, recently stopped by KOVE 1330 AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time to chat with host Vince Tropea about the event. h/t Wings N' Wheels Fly-In Air Show & Car Show image The day kicks off at 8:00 AM at Lander's Hunt Field with an "MX Show Plane Opening Exhibition," followed by a half hour show from the Warbirds. At 9:00 AM the opening prayer, presentation of the colors, and signing of the National Anthem will be followed by presentations honoring Military and first responder service members. At 10:00 AM the Warbirds take flight again, followed by the "Flour Bomb" event (listen in for more details about this awesome sounding aerial game) at 10:30 AM, along with the local Air Parade. At 12:00 PM, two Fremont County veterans will be celebrated with the Warbird Honor Flights, with the car show announcements taking place right after.     Mental Health Monday: Learn more about Project AWARE, upcoming suicide first aid and prevention ASIST trainings, mindfulness techniques

    (Lander, WY) – Mental Health Monday, the new weekly segment on KOVE 1330 AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time, hosted by Vince Tropea, continued today with guest Katie Baxter, the Community Mental Health Project Manager for Fremont County School District (FCSD) #1 Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education). The Project AWARE Grant is designed to supplement existing mental health services within the community and remove potential barriers to care, such as financial, transportation, etc. In August 2020, the Wyoming Department of Education was awarded a five year grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in order to implement Project AWARE in Wyoming, and was established in 2014 as a part of a Federal safer schools initiative. The current program provides school-based mental health services, with parental consent, substance abuse education, violence and bullying prevention education and family engagement.  Baxter talked about the program itself, her role in it, and also filled us in on the details for the free ASIST training two day interactive workshop, which will cover suicide first aid and prevention training, open to anyone 16 and up. The workshop, organized in conjunction with Fremont County Prevention, will be held on Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1 at the Riverton Branch Library at 1330 W.     (Lander, WY) - Andy Dunnigan with the band The Lil Smokies chats with "Jerrad and Charene" as the band prepares to play Lander Live tonight at Lander City Park. This Montana based band is no stranger to playing shows in the Rocky Mountain region and will be putting on a very fun show for Fremont County. I am lucky to know Andy's father, John Dunnigan, who is a prized musician in the community I first started my radio career. I then became more in the know with The Lil Smokies when I moved to Missoula, Montana. They had a vast local following, they were just known as a good group of guys. A band that is easy to promote with their talent, energy and good nature. Wyoming seems right up their alley and Lander always shows great support for Lander Live with Lander Presents. The Lil Smokies 3rd studio album comes from time spent in a town in Texas, named affectionally after it. They were just in Nashville with some new music from that trip as well. Jeff is also an Occupational Therapist with 30 years of experience, currently seeing patients at Teton Therapy's Lander clinic, and he stopped by to discuss Diagnostic Testing, now available at Teton Therapy. Previously, this testing was only done in Medical Doctor offices, but is now approved to be performed by properly trained physical therapists by Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance. Teton Therapy became the first therapy clinic in Wyoming to train therapists in conducting Diagnostic Ultrasounds, Nerve Conduction Studies, and Electromyograms, and McMenamy fills us in on the specifics of what those services provide.     (Lander, WY) – Mental Health Monday, the new weekly segment on KOVE 1330 AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time, hosted by Vince Tropea, continued today with guests Holly Butler and Jeff Courtier, who stopped by to chat about the upcoming Courage to Change 5k, a suicide awareness run/walk event. The event will be happening July 23rd, in conjunction with the 2nd Annual Lander Community Pig Roast, which also has a theme of mental health awareness. h/t Courage to Change 5k event image Butler works with WYNOW: Wyoming Youth Now Foundation, and Courtier is a pastor at the Rock Church here in Lander, and both stressed the need for more events like the Courage to Change 5k to bring more awareness to the sheer anount of suicides that happen in our country and Fremont County specifically. Tomorrow will see the annual Hudson Daze event, which will include a car show, music from renowned musician Jalan Crossland, and tons of food and vendor options. The main goal of Mental Health Monday is to start an open dialogue about a number of mental health topics, and how folks are being affected on local, state and national levels. Guests range from psychiatrists, psychologists, school/drug/grief counselors, and any other professionals in the field, as well as testimonials from those affected by mental health issues, such as students, veterans, first responders, and many more.     Central Wyoming College hires Westmoreland to lead the Lady Rustlers

    (Fremont County, WY) - Layton Westmoreland has been hired as the next head coach for the Lady Rustlers basketball program. Westmoreland is excited about the opportunity. "I'm looking forward to the excitement that comes with new. I have built relationships with the returners and they are excited." Westmoreland has a long history in coaching from the high school to the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). His most recent stint was as an assistant coach at Hills College in Hillsboro, Texas coaching them to their third conference title in four seasons while being the lead recruiter for the Lady Rebels for one season. He also spent two seasons at McMurry University before Hills. He was a young head coach at The Christian School at Castle Hills and Christian Academy stealing a record of 118-62. He was the head coach for Newcastle High School in Texas for one season scoring a record of 23-11. Westmoreland spent one season as the coach supporting staff for the San Antonio Stars which are now the Las Vegas Aces in 2017. This will be Westmoreland's first head coaching opportunity at the college level and has been busy recruiting for the upcoming and future seasons. I'm looking for players that want to succeed and represent the college in a positive light," he said. "I'm currently putting in a lot of time to build relationships and being prepared for what is to come." Central Wyoming College Athletic Director Steve Barlow said in an email, "We are very excited that Layton Westmoreland has joined the coaching staff as he has the energy and passion needed to lead a successful program," he said. " With his connections and experience at respected programs, I am confident Layton will be leading a competitive program immediately."     (Lander, WY) – In honor of tomorrow's Memorial Day ceremonies, 1330 KOVE AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time host Vince Tropea recently talked with local veterans Bob Keiser and Keith Trouwborst about what we can expect from the Hudson and Lander events. The ceremonies began on Friday with the Avenue of Flags flag raising in Lander, where over 80 flags were placed along Main Street and at Mount Hope Cemetery. The Hudson service will begin at 9:00 AM, and will take place at the Hudson Cemetery or in the Hudson City Hall if the weather is uncooperative. The Lander service will be at 11:00 AM at Mount Hope Cemetery, and will take place in the Hudson Funeral Home (located at Mount Hope Cemetery) if the weather is uncooperative. There will also be the annual brunch/lunch at the Lander VFW hall from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, where they will also unveil the entries for the VFW Mural Contest. While the museum opened in a smaller capacity in August of 2020, Saturday will mark the official grand opening, which had to be pushed back due to various COVID-19 concerns, and will also see the opening of new exhibits. In addition to shooting ranges, tank rides and free tours, the grand opening will also have a Black Hawk helicopter flyover, and speakers including: Scheduled speakers include Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon; Alynne Catron, Executive Director of the Museum; LTG Roger Schultz (Ret), President, Army Historical Foundation; and William J. “Doc” Schmitz, National Commander-in-Chief, VFW, 2019 -2020. It should also be noted folks are encouraged to utilize the free WRTA shuttle services located around the town of Dubois, so as to avoid parking issues at the actual Museum.
