When you're one of the most well-liked gymnasts in the country, you're kind of a big deal. But for Norah Flatley, it's what makes her so well-respected that really stands out. It's the years of hard work dedicated to her craft. And it's overcoming injuries, setbacks, and heartbreak. An injury kept Norah from having a chance to realize her Olympic dream. But time heals all wounds, and after finishing seventh at nationals last year and being named the Comeback Gymnast of the Year, she sees the big picture, including a transfer to Arkansas, a fresh start, and an opportunity to work with Jordyn Wieber and Kyla Ross one more time. With Razorback fans and the gymnastics community behind her, Norah Flatley is going out in style.
Today on the podcast I'm very fortunate and excited to have on Jordyn Wieber, head coach of Arkansas gymnastics to chat about her transition from her own gymnastics career to becoming a head coach of a successful College Team. A phenomenal personal career including Olympic Gold as part of the Fierce Five in London 2012 and multiple World medals. Jordyn went on to College at UCLA where she ended up becoming the volunteer assistant coach for three years. This inspired and ignited a new passion for coaching and in April 2019 she became the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics team. But how easy was this transition? We Discuss: Why you need to be able to read the room and understand what athletes need. Jordyn Wieber's advice on how to improve a club's culture. How to be super productive, have expectations, and still have enjoyable training sessions. The importance of cultivating events, experiences, and relationships outside of the gym. Jordyn Wieber's top tip on how to be a good recruiter. And… Why being a good person goes a long way.
Jordyn Wieber a US Olympic Gold Medalist in gymnastics and current head gymnastics coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks talks Profiles Editor April Wallace about being honored this October 28 at the Woman of Inspiration event a fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Centers of Arkansas. Wieber was one of many sexual abuse victims of sports doctor Larry Nassar, which made headlines for many months. She tells her story in hopes that it will help others and has become a champion for child abuse victims across the country. Her victim impact statement is credited with helping put Nassar away.

On this episode, Derek is recovering from a viral condition so his voice is a bit hoarse but that not going to stop his truly amazing conversation with US Olympic Gold Medalist, Jordyn Wieber. She will discuss how she started in gymnastics, selection to TEAM USA and competing in the 2012 Olympics in London as a member of "The Fierce 5".
Jordyn Wieber is used to winning. From taking home Olympic gold to being part of a championship-winning program at UCLA, Wieber knows what it takes to find success at the highest levels. And so when she became the first Olympic champion to become the head coach of a collegiate program, Wieber knew what she wanted to do. The Arkansas gymnastics program isn't even 20 years old, but has seen its fair share of successes. With Wieber, there's more buzz than ever—the team has already posted records for attendance and high scores. And it all starts with building a culture and a program with a winning mentality. With an Olympian at the helm—and two others on the coaching staff—Razorback gymnastics is on an upward trajectory. And it all starts with Jordyn Wieber.
