Now serving as foster parents, they care for children, minister to mothers, and live out love as a verb. Listen and learn how, in Laura's words, “Doing God's work is not always pretty, but what it accomplishes is beautiful.” Plus, don't miss our bonus guest—the mother of children whom Laura has fostered! Morning Mantra: “Love is a verb.”Everyone has their own love language. Some people are very verbal, always telling others how they feel. Some people are demonstrative, always giving gifts or doing things. If you aren't great at speaking your feelings out loud, or you aren't confident enough to demonstrate your love, there are beautiful ways that you can express it:Respecting someone's time. Showing up over and over. Responsiveness.Loving someone's animals. Listening.Walks. Utterly believing in them. Reassurance without being asked. Notes. From Harry Harlow's first scientific presentation on love in 1958, scientists (and romanticists) have long been fascinated with this most powerful of human emotions. How do our interpersonal interactions in the home, the church, and the marketplace create or disarm frictions, and how can we utilize the fascinating findings of Harry Harlow's monkeys to help transform our realm of influence? Join Dr. Lisa Dunne on today's show to find out more!
Jesus came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. I almost asked Deacon Gary to take a long pause after that verse in our gospel today, so all the women in the room could have a collective eye roll together. Please. The only woman spoken of in the beginning of Mark is sick and laid up in bed, and given no name but servant. When I first read the story, I did pause. I was reading the lesson to my husband in our home, and thankfully he's still alive today. Because his eye roll matched mine. Right on cue. I think my first response was, Ugh, let this lady take a nap. She's obviously tired. I was more than a little irritated at our gospel today. Here we go. Another biblical lesson of woman, know your place. I could feel my own temperature rising up in solitude with my stricken sister. And then I remembered
Spirit, God, Creator, Changing Woman, Goddess, Higher Power, White Buffalo Calf Woman, Allah, Wakan Tanka, Baiame, Quan Yin, Tengri; these are just a tiny fraction of the thousands of different names for spiritual and/or religious beings we humans respect and revere. While different spiritual duties may be assigned to different beings, perhaps the most common understanding that ties almost every tradition together (of course there are exceptions) is that ultimately, the universe is powered and ruled by Love. So it's understandable then, how frequently our spiritual and religious teachings remind and admonish us to love each other, and to love all of creation, as if these things external to our being were in fact ourselves. Pretty radical concept! And yet, quite simple: Love rules all, love conquers all, love is all there is.Your cohosts at the Psychic Funhouse have decided to start at the beginning by asking: how do we love ourselves? CrossPoint's theme for 2024 is "Love Like Jesus." Jesus says the two greatest commands are to Love God and love others. Love is more than a feeling, it's a verb!
Happy New Year! This week, we have a stand alone treat. In this message, our pastoral intern John Smith talks about love being more than a word. Is love, or the virtue of charity, really just a feeling? Can we just think nice thoughts about somebody and truly say that we love them? Scripture and tradition say otherwise. Love is active, not passive. Being charitable means doing things for those you love even when it costs you something. The greatest example of that is the Cross - when Christ gave his life for us. Struggling with loving those around you? Think of love as a verb rather than a noun. "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal." We love the saying "actions speak louder than words" because it is so true! We can say "I love you" to our spouse all the time but that really means nothing unless it's backed up by actions. Love is a verb which requires action on our part.Yes, it is important too to express love verbally as well, but words without actions mean nothing. In this episode we talk about how you need to show and express love in ways your spouse will know you love them, and it is not good enough to just say "I love you."If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. “We have a Black principal, so we need to have this conversation with you.” Ally Wright Founding Principal, Middle School English, High School Humanities “Please come teach that here…” Have you ever heard the phrase that your gifts will make room for you? That's exactly what happened for Educator Ally Wright, who combined her love of Black Liberation and education as she launched her career (#shoutout to the Black Liberation Through Music course!). In spite of the lack of diversity in her own educational experience, including being the only Black principal in her Los Angeles charter school network, Ally is making room for her students to experience joy and see a role model that looks like them. “I spend a lot of time thinking about how we have failed Black kids, and how we continue to.” As the Founding Principal, Ally had the challenge of opening a school during the pandemic. While the state of education is getting attention, there is still reflection to be done, especially about the harm educators unknowingly perpetuate on their students (especially the Black girls!). With the rally cry of “Love is a Verb”, Principal Wright is encouraging educators to radically take care of themselves while creating opportunities to show all students what is possible.

True love, real love, "the one"... the way people describe love is pretty and aspirational, but ultimately super vague. What does love actually feel like? How do you know it's love and not just old habits or displaced desires? Is love even a noun at all, or is it an action? In this episode, I talk to partners in life, love, and business, Dr. Carrie Kholi-Murchison and Holley Kholi-Murchison) about: How to truly be in relationship and partnership with someone else....and also honor yourself and your own desires. Re-evaluating and reflecting about the way you relate to love HOW THE HECK do you separate your own self-love from the love you experience from someone else — especially if that person fills many roles in your life? and more! Love Is A Verb - Special Episode. It's ‘Story time with Mr. Black'. Mr. Black shares a story that has its roots in love. The message of this story is that when we are prosperous, we underrate Love. When we feel important, we do not appreciate love. And even in happiness and sorrow we overlook love. Only with time we realize the true value of love. Why wait and not cherish Love every day of your life? Of the hodgepodge of emotions out there, and in here- we seem to seek and lose love the easiest. Emotional Intelligence is the ability to use ALL EMOTIONS in an appropriate way. Using the right emotion, at the right time, directed toward the right person and in the right way- this is not easy, however, it is transformational. We live in a world where people are looking for love, and they are looking for it in the wrong places, in the wrong way. One of the reasons for this elusiveness is because we do not know what love is and thus how to find it. Today's inspirational story will help remind us that Love is a VERB, it is not a feeling. For someone so loved, that they did something about it. Enjoy today's story, titled, Love is a Verb. Episodes published every Monday and Thursday. Politicians love Black votes but don't really love Black people. Because here's the thing... I've been in a devoted relationship with one woman for 25+ years and let me tell you what I've learned.LOVE IS A VERB. Love requires corresponding actions to match it.And what I am seeing right now is that politicians keep telling Black people that they care, and that they see and feel our pain, but don't do anything about the actual material conditions causing that pain. It's not enough to console our communities after ANOTHER white supremacist attack without actually doing ANYTHING to stop the next one. And we're at the point as a people and as a nation where we have to move from rhetoric to substance.
