Many college libraries have undergone transformation in recent years to serve as hubs for student success, offering a central location for students to hang out, work with peers and connect to support resources like tutoring. This reimagination of the library often comes with a physical reconfiguration, relocation of offices and expanded services, all in hopes of supporting access and student success. In this episode of Voices of Student Success, Katie Clark, higher education market manager for KI and a former campus administrator, speaks to the evolution of the campus library and what it means for students and practitioners. Later, hear from Marquette University's Lemonis Center director Marilyn Jones and vice provost for academic affairs and student success, John Su, to discuss how Marquette remodeled its Memorial Library to better support students. Hosted by Inside Higher Ed Student Success Reporter Ashley Mowreader. This episode is sponsored by KI. Read a transcript of the podcast here.

Guest Bio: Marilyn Jones a Chicago Native is the Founder and Owner of B Fragranced the online destination of beautifully crafted Fragrances & Colognes for both, modern women and men. Marilyn owns 100% of the company and proud to be WBE certified! Marilyn’s number eleven of twelve children born to a devoted Mother and Father. Unfortunately, her time with her Mother was cut short at the young age of five when Marilyn’s mom lost her battle to Breast Cancer. Marilyn’s older siblings would share loving memories of their mom, which at times left Marilyn feeling empty because she didn’t share those same memories. However, what Marilyn did have that never left her was her mother’s scent. This birthed a passion and a zeal to create Fragrances as unique as the individual who wears it! Marilyn grew up with a love for perfumes that grew stronger in later years. “Our New flagship fragrance Embellish doesn’t smell like my Mother once did, but the blueprint of the business certainly embodies her”. Marilyn realized the imminent need of consumers wanting to celebrate who they are and Identifying a Brand that enabled Self-Empowerment and Confidence was extremely important. With that said, [ME]™ became the new lifestyle! B Fragranced branded the creative process of making what "you" wear the pinnacle of a two-letter word characterized as ME. Empower who you are, Be Courageous, Be Beautiful more importantly B Fragranced. Leave your Memory Mark. Marilyn Jones is certainly leaving her Mark in the beauty industry as the trailblazing Queen of scents. As seen in Essence, Woe, Juicy, Sheen Magazine, Delux, CEOMOM. Hey guys, it's been a rough week. So instead of filling this intro with some sort of witty small talk, we're just going to ask that you head over to iTunes and review/rate the show if you like what you hear. We love you. NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK: "The Walking Dead's" Season 8 finale and Season 4 premiere of "Fear the Walking Dead" — aka the series' first-ever crossover episode — will hit 750 theaters nationwide on April 15 in what Fathom Events is calling "Survival Sunday" Thanks to the success of "The White Queen" and "The White Princess," Starz has put the third installment into production. Based on Philippa Gregory's series of books, the newest series is "The Spanish Princess" which "returns viewers to the world of royal court intrigue as seen uniquely through the perspective of the women, but also sheds light on a previously untold corner of history — the lives of people of color, living and working in 16th century London." Hulu is developing a series about the "Satanic Panic" of the late '80s and early '90s. The series is called "Demons," and according to THR, the drama will "revolve around Marilyn Jones, the seductive "patient zero" in the frenzy surrounding satanic ritual abuse, and her husband, Bennett Lewis, a brilliant but manipulative psychiatrist. In success, each season of Demons would explore a twisted crime affected by the couple's dark exploration into the fragile nature of memory and guilt." MTV is expanding its "TRL" franchise to add late night and morning editions of the program. Nerdist reported on a rumor that FOX may be interested in rebooting "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Of course, it's just a rumor but would this even be a good idea? Interview with Marilyn Jones, a formerly incarcerated black woman and drug addict who ultimately became the valedictorian of her junior college class, completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and is now pursuing her doctorate in education. Marilyn founded her own nonprofit, Because Black Is Still Beautiful, to counter negative stereotypes and deficit model perspectives of the black community – perspectives she encountered all through her life and as a student in higher education. Based in San Francisco, Because Black Is Still Beautiful supports women released from prison. While black women represent only 5% of the general female population in San Francisco, they make up a striking 60% of the female county jail population. Women in the program receive counseling, educational tutoring, and, most importantly, a “sisterhood”, a network of support as they move on with their lives. Marilyn shares her story of overcoming more than 20 years of crack addiction and incarceration to excel in college and return to help other women in her community.

This week we have seen protests, riots and more in the city of Freguson, Missouri following the death of unharmed 18 year old teenager Michael Brown at the hands of a police officer. We have seen a number of cases where black people, particularily black males have been gunned down under dubious incidents in the community without consequence in some cases. Which brings us to our Question of the Day: What is the value of Black Life in America? Do images and propaganda in the media, music & more help to devalue the African-American life & experience? Call in this Saturday and join the conversation. Plus, we will have our Dream Maker segment where we talk to people who are making their dreams come true. This week our Dream Maker is Marilyn Jones who is creator of Bfragranced, a line of fragrances and perfumes. So tune in this Saturday for a great show & discussion.
