We had the pleasure of interviewing Meghan Linsey over Zoom video! No. 1 Billboard recording artist, Meghan Linsey, recently released her latest single, "If You Need Me Don't." This project is bringing The Voice alum back to her soulful, blues-driven New Orleans roots. Linsey recruited a stellar lineup of musicians for the track.. The single was produced by Linsey's husband and GRAMMY-nominated producer, Tyler Cain (Gramps Morgan, Ashley Monroe, Aloe Blacc). About Meghan Linsey:With her soulful voice and unique ability to rattle the rafters with gritty vocals, Meghan Linsey knows no boundaries in the realm of music. Linsey captured the hearts of America along with the ear of Scott Borchetta, a judge on the CMT reality singing competition Can You Duet. She won the show and Borchetta, the head of Big Machine Records, immediately signed the country-soul duo Steel Magnolia to his label. Success came quickly after the debut single “Keep on Lovin' You” catapulted to the Top 5 on Billboard. The pair toured with superstar acts including Brad Paisley, Bob Seger and Reba and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Linsey embarked on her solo career writing and releasing two EP's before getting a call in 2015 from a producer for NBC's Emmy award-winning show, The Voice. During her time on The Voice, Linsey landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian chart with her rendition of "Amazing Grace" and had multiple No. 1's across all genres of the iTunes chart. She was crowned the season eight runner-up and was the first contestant in The Voice history to perform an original, self-penned song on the show's finale. We want to hear from you! Shonali got her wisdom teeth pulled. Justin got a sun tan and Christian shares new (not exactly accurate) CDC guidelines. As more of us are vaccinated and we start to venture out more often, nature is not ready for us. We warn Christian not to watch last week's viral rabid bobcat video in which this brave husband in North Carolina rescued his wife. Shonali loved it. Christian as you all know is terrified of urban wildlife. Our first guest is an award winning playwright, poet & actress Stefani Kuo! Stefani makes powerful and compelling art which often features stories from the Asian American community. She describes her recent work The Conservation of Parity about a brilliant female Chinese physicist, Chien-Shiung Wu who immigrated to America and worked on the atomic bomb. Stefani shares her thoughts on the state of American theater, the general lack of awareness Americans have regarding the Asian American community, Andrew Yang's candidacy for NYC Mayor, and great hiking spots in the NYC vicinity! Christian comes out of the Croc closet! We discuss his new love of this controversial footwear and how far he is willing to take this new ugly journey. Our musical guest is singer-songwriter Meghan Linsey! You may know her from either her time as half of a duo Steel Magnolia which hit #3 on the country music charts or her runner up win on The Voice Season 8. Shonali met her at honky tonk night in Nashville years ago, not knowing any of the above and just thought she was a lovely person she wanted to stay in touch with. As we all have had rough years, Meghan is no exception. Her studio was hit by the Nashville tornados, her wedding had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, and there has been illness within her family - yet she manages the stress with a "go with the flow" attitude. We discuss Nashville, feeling like an outsider, kneeling during the National Anthem at a NFL game, standing up for social justice, Alaska, and having a green thumb! Check out Meghan Linsey and Tyler Cain's duet Nowhere With You. It's so beautiful! Congrats to #JustinTheIntern Justin Hall for winning the Platinum Remi Award for short film drama at the Houston International Film Festival as director, also written by our friend Piper Werle! Lastly thank you for being with us! Follow us on @wdekpodcast on all socials! Also Christian Felix is high maintenance! Love you!

Their collective, undeniable talent shines with "The Woah Down," which American Songwriter lauds as "a catchy hip-hop/country crossover that seems poised to be the 'Old Town Road' of 2020." Chingy, who single-handedly influenced cultural slang with “thurr” and “hurr” following the smashBillboard Hot 100 hit "Right Thurr," achieved superstardom success with seven other Hot 100 hits, including “Holidae In,” “One Call Away” and many more. An actor and philanthropist, Chingy, achieved rapid mainstream success with the release of his double-Platinum RIAA certified debut album, Jackpot and knocked himself out of the No. 1 position with his second platinum album Powerballin', featuring Hot 100 hit "Balla Baby" as well as a collaboration with Janet Jackson on "Don't Worry." Chingy followed up with another RIAA-certified Gold record, Hood star, which also reached the Billboard 200 all-genres top 10 albums chart, and spawned Hot 100 singles "Pullin' Me Back" featuring Tyrese and "Dem Jeans." Kelly, Bun B, Lil Wayne, Lil' Flip, David Banner, Nate Dogg, and Get It Boyz. That same year Chingy was featured on Houston's Hot 100 single "I Like That" featuring Nate Dogg and I-20. If not, YOU'RE FIRED. Find something else to do!” The following day, hundreds of players, coaches, musicians, and fans took at knee at various football games around the country. This September, singer/songwriter Meghan Linsey, the 2015 runner-up on "The Voice" took a knee as she sang the final note of the national anthem before the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks game in Nashville. Meghan and her boyfriend and guitar player, Tyler Cain, joined players across the NFL that day in this form of protest, in response to Donald Trump criticizing football players for speaking out against police brutality and racial injustice. On this episode, I'll speak with Meghan about the responsibility of artists to speak out in these dangerous times, the importance of white allyship to people of color, and how her experiences growing up around racism heightened her awareness to the need to resist.

Steel Magnolia blossomed one late night in Nashville’s famous Printer’s Alley. Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott took to the stage and sang together for the very first time in a karaoke bar, singing Air Supply’s ‘I’m All Out of Love.’ Since that fateful first night together on stage, the duo is now known as Steel Magnolia. Steel Magnolia signed to Big Machine Records, home to Taylor Swift and now Rascal Flatts. We heard the buzz about them and caught up with them on the set of their latest music video ‘Just By Being You (Halo and Wings).’
