General Manager of CrossFit Dave Castro has kicked off a new series of guest programmers for the Workout of the Day on CrossFit.com. CrossFit has published a Workout of the Day every day since 2001. It has evolved to include scaling options and intended stimulus and is designed to be accessible to everyone — the new CrossFit athlete, the seasoned veteran, and anyone in between. This latest guest for .com's programming is Michele Letendre. Letendre is a six-time CrossFit Games veteran, former CrossFit Seminar Staff member, and founder and head coach at Deka CrossFit in Blainville, Quebec. In 2016, when Letendre retired from a career competing at the CrossFit Games, she knew she wanted to build something that would reflect her experience as an athlete, long-time coach, and Seminar Staff member. She put her experience to use and founded Deka Comp, where she's gone on to program and coach elite athletes, including 2023 Rogue Invitational champion and five-time Games podium finisher Pat Vellner. Chase and Bill sit back and analyze the programming along side guest programmer Michele Letendre and walk through the potential patterns and processes they leaned on to create their workouts.
“Learning new things is probably the most important thing anyone with confidence issues should do.”This is a quote from today's guest, Michèle Letendre, six-time CrossFit games athlete and coach of some of the fittest people on earth. Michele owns Deka Comp where she coaches amateur and elite athletes alike, including Patrick Vellner, who was recently crowned the 2nd "Fittest Man on Earth" at the 2023 CrossFit games. As Michele discusses, the concept of the “fittest on earth” is rooted in the CrossFit methodology, which emphasizes performing well across various tests, rather than specializing in one specific area. Today, she and Sara discuss:Michele's personal transition from water polo player to competitive CrossFit athleteTypes of negative experiences or pushback she has received as a woman in coachingQualities she sees in performance-minded athletesThe Importance of intrinsic motivation in the pursuit of excellenceQualities of good and bad coaches How she learns from her athlete's feedbackThe massive progression and growth of women in CrossFitBuilding confidence through weightlifting and learning new skillsStrength training can boost confidence by making you feel good about yourself and giving you a sense of accomplishment.Needless to say, coaching in this arena requires competence, confidence, and creativity and Michele Letendre thrives on all three. Michele is a good friend who we have been following within the CrossFit space since her days out on the competition floor as an athlete. Michele is a 6x CrossFit Games Athlete who has made the transition into the world of coaching, founding the programming company: Deka Comp. She was the first female CrossFit Games coach to break into the space, and she has had tremendous success having coached Pat Vellner to multiple podium finishes at the Games. Hello and welcome to The Progress Theory where we discuss how to implement scientific principles to optimise human performance. In this episode, we have Crossfit coach and head of DekaComp, Michele Letendre. On paper, Crossfit should be a challenging sport to programme for. You need to be efficient in so many movements across a spectrum ranging from maximal strength to long-distance endurance. Add to this the fact that you don't know what might come up in competition, which makes programming decision-making a challenge, but also can allow you to be creative in your approach. In this episode, Michele and I discuss her coaching company Dekacomp, her Crossfit programming ideas, and her different coaching approaches for different athletes. But before we get to the show I want to thank our sponsors, who the show would not be possible without. I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to my production partner, KULT Media. KULT Media has been instrumental in the development & success of the progress theory. They have created brand guides, comprehensive podcast strategies, enhanced the podcast production, developed custom workflows for me and edited & mixed all of the video, audio and social media content. Their simple Coach, Create & Collaborate process has saved me 100's hours in podcast production, resolved countless technical issues and consistently help me to improve my podcasting game. So if you want to establish and engage your audience, or are ready to launch your own podcast head to http://www.kult.media (www.kult.media) to learn more. Thank you to HMN24 – fuelling human potential and optimising everyday human performance and well-being. First of all – HMN24 is not a sports supplement company. I've seen sport supplements be used as a method to improve performance in the gym and at a certain sport. However, these supplements, like a pre-workout, are often used on top of a lifestyle which does not provide the foundation needed for optimal performance. There's no point taking pre-workout supplements if your sleep, hydration, and nutrition is an unstructured mess. I'm convinced that a large percentage of injuries are often caused, not because training was poor, but because a poor lifestyle foundation increased the athlete's susceptibility to injury. Sports supplements are often used to plaster the cracks in poor lifestyle habits, which only causes more future problems. And this is where HMN24 is different. The product range at HMN24 not only helps improve your foundation; it optimises it. The HMN24 products are designed to fit around your circadian rhythms, from the moment you wake up, to key moments in the day when you need optimal focus, to getting the best sleep at night, there's a product to optimise each phase of the day. I can't recommend enough the “live on form' pack, consisting of the products Rise, flow and pre-sleep. Rise is for the morning and is my absolute favourite. It tastes amazing. Rise contains caffeine for increased morning alertness (though not a huge amount of caffeine, which is sooo much better for avoiding gastro-intestinal distress), electrolytes from coconut and watermelon powder to increase hydration after the previous night's sleep, and B-vitamins, to ensure you ready to win the morning. I'm not a fan of long-winded morning routines. I wake up, have my Rise with ice, and get straight to writing, and I've seen such an improvement in getting into deep work. By the time 2pm comes around the effects of caffeine from Rise has worn off, but I don't want to take more caffeine because that's going to interrupt getting to sleep later on. This is where Flow is perfect. It's a caffeine-free nootropic, perfect for improving alertness and concentration during that mid-afternoon slump. And finally, I take pre-sleep just before bed, which is a comprehensive night-time complex, formulated to...
When we look at professionalizing the sport, a big topic for conversation is how can athletes get paid more so they can be full-time athletes. But -- at the current state, many athletes do still have part or even full-time jobs on top of trying to be a Games athlete.Morning Chalk Up's Lauren Kalil sits down with CrossFit Games coach Michele Letendre and CrossFit Games agent Cooper Marsh to discuss whether Games athletes truly need to be 100% athletes in order to be a top-level competitor.Whoop Discount Code: https://bit.ly/3JULfIFAlready a WHOOP user? Today Adrian and Michele Letendre have a bit of a coach to coach conversation! She goes through her history in the sport of CrossFit, how she started, her history as a water polo player and many of the lessons that she got from those years and of course her career as a CrossFit Games athlete. She then discusses how she began as a coach and how it may not be as you expected! She asked Pat Vellner after already finishing on the podium if she could help oversee his training and assist in his journey, this forced Michele into a very professional role right out of the gate! And we can personally say from watching that she has done pretty darn well! You'll enjoy this episode if you are a coach or an athlete as Michele also talks about some of her biggest influences in programming and how she has taken from many to make her own flavor.
“I've done a lot of work on trying to understand (my athletes' needs) and the way I talk to them. … Once you pick up on the languages they speak and you see what gets them going … it's easier. You have to be very good at listening to what kind of words they use and what gets them going and stuff like that.” — Michele Letendre, Head Coach/Co-owner of Deka Comp and Six-Time Games AthleteHost Chase Ingraham, four-time Games athlete Adrian Conway, and seven-time Games athlete Margaux Alvarez recap Day 1 of the Individual Quarterfinal. The trio breaks down the first two workouts of the competition, discussing movement standards and plans of action, and highlights the top athletes across the continental leaderboards. The crew also reviews the next set of workouts — which include shuttle runs and bench press — that athletes will face on Day 2. In this episode, six-time Games athlete, and head coach and co-owner of Deka Comp Michele Letendre also joins the podcast to talk about Individual Quarterfinal strategy for Pat Vellner, Freya Moosbrugger, and Ellie Turner and how she tailors her coaching style when working with each of her athletes to optimize their success.

Do you still think that it's possible to be a great coach and a great athlete at the same time? Do you still think that the best athletes write the best programs? You might want to give this episode a listen. . Michele Letendre has been wildly successful as a CrossFit Athlete, placing 4th in the world at the 2014 CrossFit Games and she is now wildly successful as a coach heping two of her clients (Laura Horvath and Patrick Vellner) to second place finishes at the 2018 CrossFit Games. . I have so much respect for both the type of competitor Michele was and the kind of coach that she is. When you mingle around in the Warm-up area at the CrossFit Games you can see which coaches are really invested in the success of their athletes. It's in how they carry themselves, the laser focus they have, the way they fight back showing too much emotion when an athlete does well or poorly Michele exemplifies all of these characteristics. . In this episode Michele talks about why it's exceedingly difficult to be a great athlete and a great coach at the same time. She talks about the emotional energy tied to both as well as the cognitive energy. . Michele also offers her opinion on the changes to the CrossFit Games and the lack of clarity around where things are going. You won't want to miss it.
