Chairman Haffner is a longtime critic of the proposed Grain Belt project in north Missouri. Callaway County western district commissioner Roger Fischer, Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri Corn Growers Association, Missouri Soybean Association and the Missouri Cattlemen's Association are just some of the commodity groups that support the bill. Majority Leader O'Laughlin tells listeners that the Senate will likely go to an education bill today and confirms she's working on a compromise with both sides of the controversial Kansas City-area landfill. Senator O'Laughlin tells listeners the education lobby is the largest lobby in Jefferson City, describing it as "massive." Leader O'Laughlin disagrees with that, noting she campaigned on school choice during her 2018 Senate campaign and was re-elected in 2022. She tells listeners that Missouri lawmakers should listen to people in their districts, rather than to lobbyists in Jefferson City. 939 the Eagle's Brian Hauswirth also asked Senator O'Laughlin about Missouri Governor Mike Parson's decision to commute Britt Reid's sentence. Senator O'Laughlin tells listeners she is not going to second-guess the governor and says it is a controversial issue. There is so much talk about work/life balance in todays world. In fact, I gave a talk on this exact concept this past weekend at a Missouri Farm Bureau conference. Balance is something that always seems to be a moving target and it's a hard, even impossible thing to achieve. Shane Kinne has come up with a different term for this concept to help change the way we look at it. Shane runs a consultant and coaching business with his wife Whitney where there main focus is this concept called alignment. Alignment is a new way to frame the concept of balance where all that we do, whether that be farming, parenting, town job, hobbies, etc is all in alignment with each other. It's a value based system where you are looking at principles and how your actions reflect your principles. This was a great conversation with Shane and I'm so excited for you to hear it. Make sure you tune in to hear some of Shane's favorite personal development resources. I'm so glad we got to finally have this podcast as technology was definitely not working in our favor. The joys of podcasting with rural internet.

MOFB is opposed to Amendment 3 on Missouri's November ballot. On today's episode, Scott Dieckhaus speaks to MOFB President Garrett Hawkins about the problems with the proposal. Amendment 3 would effectively legalize recreational use, sale and possession of marijuana for all people over age 21. Law enforcement and medical professionals say legalizing recreational marijuana usage would be bad for Missouri. The proposal is also overly complex and is written to benefit current medical marijuana distributors. Also, efforts like this should be statutory rather than chiseled into the state constitution. MOFB policy has long opposed the legalization of recreational marijuana, due to its negative effects on health, tendency to increase crime and correlation with increased use of other illegal drugs. Missouri Farm Bureau encourages all Missouri voters to vote NO on Amendment 3.
