In an era dominated by digital media, cultivating media literacy skills is essential to navigate the digital landscape safely and confidently. Joining us to examine the importance or media literacy, the dangers of internet falsehoods, and the unique challenges that older adults face as they navigate web is Dr. Carol Quade, an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College's Annandale Campus, volunteer at the Lifetime Learning Institute of Northern Virginia, and expert in communications and media studies.
When House Minority Leader Crystal Quade first won election to her Springfield-based seat in 2016, her fellow Democrats suffered catastrophic losses for state legislative and statewide posts. After eight years of near total GOP control of Missouri state government, Quade believes the state's voters are ready to move on and place Democrats like her in the governor's mansion. She joins the Politically Speaking Hour on St. Louis on the Air to discuss her candidacy ahead of the Aug. 6 primary.
On the latest episode of the Politically Speaking Hour on St. Louis on the Air, STLPR's Jason Rosenbaum interviews TWO Missouri gubernatorial hopefuls — GOP Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe and Democratic House Minority Leader Crystal Quade. The two are trying to maneuver through primaries that are slated to take place on Aug. 6. Rosenbaum also talked with STLPR's Sarah Kellogg about the high-stake governor's contest.
Missouri House Minority Leader Crystal Quade (D-Springfield) is seeking the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in August. Leader Quade is finishing her eighth and final year in the Missouri House due to term limits. She grew up in rural Webster County and now lives in Springfield. Her mother was a waitress and her father worked in a factory. Leader Quade joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri". Republicans have dominated in rural Missouri in statewide elections since 2016. Leader Quade aims to change that. She tells listeners she and about ten other House Democrats will be attending the Missouri Cattlemen's Association steak fry dinner in Sedalia, which is a big event for farmers and ranchers. Leader Quade tells listeners that it's important to show up and listen and hear from voters across Missouri, including the rural areas. She says that's important as a state representative as well. We also discussed the Kansas City Chiefs situation. Kansas lawmakers will return to the capitol in Topeka on June 18, for a special legislative session regarding the Kansas City Chiefs. The Associated Press (AP) says legislative efforts are underway in Topeka to lure the Chiefs to the Sunflower State. State Rep. Mark Sharp (D-Kansas City) tells Kansas City's KMBC-TV that he wants to see Missouri's GOP supermajority do something. He's worried the Chiefs could move to Kansas. Leader Quade worries about it as well, highlighting the economic impact of the Chiefs as well as having the Super Bowl champions in Kansas City. "Missouri Times" publisher Scott Faughn was today's guest host on "Wake Up":

As usual, this sidetracked has so much packed into it, especially as we head into Mother's Day and the end-of-school-year May(hem). We recap my son Quade's final high school musical performance as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast. Once again the tears are flowing as I process having a senior and all of the final milestones that come along with it. Cynthia tries to describe what her best Mother's Day would look like and it ends up being a 1980's party with a clean house and peaceful kids. While I would like to bring back the homemade Mother's Day crafts, let's get all the high school teachers on board. Cynthia chats about what summer looks like when the college kids come home, it's around-the-clock fun with the little one up at 6:30 AM and the big kids up until the wee hours of the morning. Come laugh along with us as we face the month of May and all of the busyness and big feelings that come along with this season of motherhood.
