Sara Wheeler reflects on the experience of being a sibling to her brother who has a lifelong disability. "Posting on social media on National Siblings Day, which fell on a Wednesday this year, brothers and sisters like me express pride. 'You love them more, not less' is a common thread. Because what all this is really about is the sibling's acute awareness of the lack of empathy routinely shown to the disabled - after all, childhood gives us, the siblings, a unique perspective. It's 'Does he take sugar?' times ten - ignoring the point of view of the disabled person and not even trying to stand in her shoes. Ask us. We know." It's National Siblings Day! To mark the occasion, guest host Selena Simmons-Duffin is exploring a detail very personal to her: How the number of older brothers a person has can influence their sexuality. Scientific research on sexuality has a dark history, with long-lasting harmful effects on queer communities. Much of the early research has also been debunked over time. But not this "fraternal birth order effect." The fact that a person's likelihood of being gay increases with each older brother has been found all over the world – from Turkey to North America, Brazil, the Netherlands and beyond. Today, Selena gets into all the details: What this effect is, how it's been studied and what it can (and can't) explain about sexuality.Interested in reading more about the science surrounding some of our closest relatives? Hey Sis, Eat This is giving you a special bonus episode in honor of National Siblings Day! We could not let this holiday go without rustling up the most hilarious, outrageous, drunken, and trouble making tales we could find! The sisters dive into voicemails from listeners as they recount everything from a secret ingredient for one pair of siblings chicken tetrazzini, a bonding moment for brothers using a vacuum, a kitchen conundrum that almost left Dallas covered in dough and the worst possible way a grandma's knitted Afghan was ruined by some party throwing sibs. Our hope is that you will laugh out loud and be reminded of funny stories involving you and your sibling. If you don't have a sibling, we hope you remember stories with a friend, cousin, sister from another mister, brother from another mother or someone in your life that feels like a sibling. Today we implore you to celebrate with us, take that trip down memory lane and reach out to your “sibling” laugh together, tell them you love them and wish them a Happy National Siblings Day!

Hello…this is Bo Kauffmann of Remax in Winnipeg, with your real estate news for… Monday, April 10th, 2023… Today is National Siblings Day and National Cinnamon Crescent day A newly published article in Better Dwellings reports the fact that Canadian real estate owners are not selling right now, and examines the reasons why. The article reports that two of Canada's trend leading markets, Toronto and Vancouver, saw new listings in March fall by 44% and 34% respectively. They identify the main reason as being ‘little reason to sell'. Higher interest rates ‘normally' cause prices to drop, but that's not happening this time around. The report somewhat falsely claims that the shortage of listings is a country wide phenomenon, affecting all markets. For the full report, go here; https://boknows.homes/4b74e290 But again, Winnipeg is bucking the national trend. On April 1st this year, Winnipeg had 961 houses of all types, styles and sizes available for sale. That was more than double the numbers available on April 1st last year. While we can agree that last year's 426 houses was an abnormally low number, April 2021 still only had 615 available. We have to go back to the very start of the pandemic, to find over 1,000 listings on any April 1st date. So Winnipeg right now is actually seeing more choices for buyers than at anytime in the past 2 yrs. How about prices. The most recent report from Winnipeg REALTORS shows that the average house in Feb. this year sold for $375k, which is down 13% from the average of 429K the same period of the previous year. The March sales stats should be out in the next day, and I'll be happy to report them here… Looking to buy or sell in Winnipeg? On this episode of Celebrate Every Day, hosts Marlo Anderson and Anna Devere dish on the upside of critters for National Farm Animals Day, and recall a brotherhood that made their mark on the darker side of American history for National Siblings Day.
The sisters are just about ready to break up with cooking after a marathon week together in LA trying out new recipes. After rehashing their fave dishes, they discuss their different styles of entertaining guests and how Whitney's low key approach to dinner parties gives Courtney too much anxiety. It's almost time to celebrate National Siblings Day where the girls are calling all sibs to dial into the Hey Sis Hotline (866-4-HEYSIS) with funny stories. To get the party started, Court and Whit recount a few instances from their past when they've gotten in trouble with Momma Ashley, an unfortunate incident in the family station wagon and a time in Vegas where the ladies were a bit too inebriated. Finally, on this edition of Sister's Dish, Momma Ashley joins the girls as Whitney goes through her recent freezer audit of Momma's 3 freezers. Court & Whit grill her on expiration dates as Momma continues to defend that anything and everything in there “will be fine!” Courtney then challenges her to take some of the older items and make an “It'll be fine” meal to see if the severe freezer burn really has affected her pork chops and if pesto can be made from old AF shishito peppers. It's all there to laugh along with on episode 9 of Hey Sis Eat This, Sister's Dish!

April 10, 2022 was National Siblings Day. In this episode, we bring you the inspiring stories of two separate sets of siblings — both from families with long legacies of service — whose lives were forever changed by the war in Vietnam.
We discuss books about sibling relationships, the tropes that come with it, and what are siblings like (or in this case hate) to read!
Welcome to April 10, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate the animals that help us every day and our family frenemies. Today we celebrate sounders, broods, trips, and herds. In case you don't have a dictionary handy, those are the group names of pigs, chickens, goats, and cows. Farm animals. These domesticated critters have helped to feed humans for thousands of years and are still integral to this day. Without them, we wouldn't have milk, eggs, or most of the food staples we rely on everyday. At least on small farms, the livestock are as important as the crops. On National Farm Animals Day, celebrate your own gratitude for the farm to table critters that we couldn't do without. Today we celebrate our best friends, who are at times our worst enemies. No matter how you remember your childhood, there are no greater allies in life than your siblings. Claudia Evart created Siblings Day in 1995 and it has been a top trending day ever since. Having lost a brother and a sister in her youth, the native New Yorker realized the important role that siblings play in our lives. In other parts of the world such as India, Spain and France there are celebrations for brothers and sisters that honor this special bond. Here in the United States, more than 80 percent of us have siblings and this day is about giving them an extra special shout out with presents, hugs or by posting childhood photos on social media. On National Siblings Day, share your favorite memories with those you love, even if they still make you crazy. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
