In 2002, two days after Halloween, a police officer stepped out of a house in the small town of Navasota, Texas. He shielded his eyes from the early morning sunlight, then ducked under the band of yellow tape that surrounded the house. The officer had been working all night and really needed a break. So he went down to the sidewalk and lit a cigarette. And as he smoked, his eyes fell on a muddy ditch that ran alongside the street. He saw something in the ditch that looked out of place. He walked closer and crouched down to examine the object. And when he saw what it was, his heart started racing. Because lying in the ditch was a mask. Under different circumstances, finding a mask two days after Halloween wouldn't be that strange. And in between sobs, the teen who was now very emotional said that the play had reminded them of a horrible thing that they knew about, but had not told anyone about. and now, after hearing those lines from "Hamlet," the teen said they just had to get this secret off their chest. And so, they would. How should you console someone after a loss?'On Grief & Grieving' by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross & David Kessler is a description of the grieving process after a loved on dies. It examines the common variables of what makes each experience unique through the inner and outer world. It's not so much advice perse as how to understand/think about dying and loss. It contains many mini examples of real stories but lacks stats or hard data to back up the 5 stage model of grief.I summarised the book as follows. ".Much like DABDA, this book is a useful tool. I doubt it will help reduce the grief of a loss but can assist in reducing additional pain from internal anxiety or inadvertently hurting others. We are back from our annual vacation and this year we went to The Grand Canyon State, Arizona. We started in Laughlin, NV just to start at the low point, then headed to Williams for some small town dive bar antics and drinks. We then saw the Grand Canyon for all it's breathtaking glory and reveled in the picturesque scenery. Then, on our our way to the rad city of Sedona (which had plenty of amazing sites and interesting people), Ian had an awkward encounter at a Flagstaff Chick-Fil-A bathroom with an overly friendly mentally challenged dude…funny to say the least. While staying in Sedona, we ventured into the town of Jerome which is the current home of Maynard James Keenan of Tool and home to masses of human ashes that are cemented into the buildings of the town…where Ian also had an awkward bathroom experience. On the morning of August 10th, 1991, in a little rural town in Arizona, two women walked across a parking lot toward a Buddhist temple. They were there to prepare a meal for the monks who lived inside. As they walked, the women noticed that none of the monks were outside meditating or gardening, which was strange. And, when they reached the front door, not only was it locked, which was strange, but also, there was also this huge puddle of water forming in front of it which they just couldn't understand. The women sensed something was off, but they shrugged and left the front door, and found an open door on the side of the building and went inside.
