News: This weekend at South by Southwest, Disney had a panel called “The Future of World-Building at Disney” which gave us a ton of information about upcoming theme park attractions. One of these was the updated experience coming next year to Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run. The new adventure will feature the Mandalorian and Grogu, better known as “the child” from the hit Disney+ series. This new experience will take guests to new locations for the attraction, like Cloud City, Tatooine, and the Death Star wreckage. The update will coincide with the premiere of “The Mandalorian and Grogu” movie on May 22, 2026. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/sxsw-2025-new-missions-smugglers-run-mandalorian/ https://www.micechat.com/410722-disney-parks-announcements-from-swsx-avengers-star-wars-a-tomorrowland-tease/ Also at South by Southwest, Disney gave new details on the Avengers Campus updates at Disneyland. The large e-ticket Avengers Infinity Defense didn't get much new information, but the Stark Flight Lab did! Robert Downey Jr., who plays Tony Stark and Iron Man, was present to talk about the upcoming attraction. The attraction will have guests in “gyro-kinetic pods” that will roll on a track before being attached to a giant robotic arm and taken through some high-speed maneuvers. Tranferring the ride vehicle from the track to the robot arm and back again has never been done before. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/sxsw-2025-robert-downey-jr-tony-stark-avengers-campus/ https://www.micechat.com/410722-disney-parks-announcements-from-swsx-avengers-star-wars-a-tomorrowland-tease/ All of this can be seen in the latest episode of “We Call it Imagineering” on the Walt Disney Imagineering YouTube channel. In the latest episode, they talk about the updates we just mentioned, as well as talk with legendary Imagineer Bob Gurr. The episode covers all kinds of ride vehicles from past, present, and into the future. There is even a great behind the curtain look at the underbelly of the Omnimover system at the Haunted Mansion! If you want to take a look at this, check out the link in the show notes. – https://youtu.be/IuQPrGLo0QM?si=Dt9qzvh4bD5xCSUZ Also at the SXSW conference, it was announced that characters from the upcoming Fantastic Four movie will be coming to Tomorrowland. This includes H.E.R.B.I.E. – the flying robot from the upcoming movie. No firm date on when they will land in Tomorrowland, but it is likely around the premiere of the movie on July 25, 2025. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/03/08/disney-announces-new-additions-coming-soon-to-tomorrowland/ https://www.micechat.com/410722-disney-parks-announcements-from-swsx-avengers-star-wars-a-tomorrowland-tease/ The Disney Parks Blog posted a Guide to the 70th Anniversary at the Disneyland Resort, with some new details for the celebration. The celebration will run May 16th, 2025 through Summer of 2026. Updates to the previous information include a ew theme song called “Celebrate Happy.” The new “World of Color Happiness!” will explore “happy” through other emotions, hosted by Joy and other emotions from Inside Out and Inside Out 2. Boyz II Men will have a rendition of “Rainbow Connection” in the show, and FITZ from Fitz and the Tantrums will debut a song for World of Color called “Makes Me Wanna Move.” The Muppets will also appear before the show. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/guide-to-the-70th-anniversary-at-disneyland-resort/ With the return of Paint the Night for the Disneyland 70th, the Frozen float that was removed to fit under the Red Car Trolley wires in Disney California Adventure will return to the parade, along with Anna, and Elsa. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/guide-to-the-70th-anniversary-at-disneyland-resort/ Over at “it's a small world,” a new light, music, and projection show called “Tapestry of Happiness” will bring an animated mosaic of Disneyland attractions, memories, and moments in a style inspired by Disney Artist Mary Blair. It will feature the “Celebrate Happy” theme song, along with nods to other Disneyland tunes. In addition to Paint the Night, which will perform in the evening, “The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade” will appear along the parade route during the day. This new cavalcade will feature characters not often seen at Disneyland like Duffy and ShellieMay. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/guide-to-the-70th-anniversary-at-disneyland-resort/ Along with the projection show on “it's a small world,” the attraction will get some new characters! Miguel and his alebrije, Dante, from Coco will be added to the Mexico section with the marigold bridge in the background. Disneyland 70th touches are also coming to Toy Story Midway Mania as you score points on the various carnival games. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/guide-to-the-70th-anniversary-at-disneyland-resort/ Two iconic attractions for the resort, which also double as transportation, have returned. The Disneyland Railroad rolled down the tracks again after the completion of the track replacement. John Rhys-Davies (John Reese-Davies), who portrayed Sallah was more than happy to spend time with fans. Chances are, you've never heard a Haunted Mansion story like this one - we hadn't! In the 12 years that the greatest ride in Disneyland spent gestating, there were many changes made. Not only to the storyline, but the effects, the ride - pretty much everything was different by the time the doors opened in 1969 from Ken Anderson's initial meeting with Walt back in 1957. Why is this? Well, we dive into an alternate conveyance that we hadn't heard about, and how different that would have made The Haunted Mansion, but also how the Omnimover system (you know, the Ghost Mobiles) forced many of the effects to be reworked. We even hear from our friend Mr. Rolly Crump (via email)!

In this episode I interview Disney Legend and Imagineer Bob Gurr about his incredible career working for Walt Disney. We discuss Bob's early life as a young boy through his time at WED Enterprises working directly for Walt Disney on the construction of Disneyland. Bob is often quoted as saying..."If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, I probably designed it." That quote is quite accurate considering Bob's impressive resume as designer of such iconic attraction ride vehicles as: the Monorail, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Disneyland Fire Engine, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride cars, and the OmniMover ride vehicle system, which appears most notoriously in the 'Doom Buggies' Haunted Mansion ride vehicles.  Bob is not only a Disney Legend, his career is legendary but it did not end when Bob officially left Disney in 1981. In fact, Bob not only continued to work as Designer for many years after leaving Disney, he is still working today!  Be sure to check back for a Part 2 of this podcast interview in which Bob and I will further explore his time at Disney and beyond.  You can learn more about Bob Gurr and his incredible life by visiting:  BobGurr.com  Bob also conducts Bus Tours in Southern California of historic and iconic locations that are significant to Walt Disney history. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Join John B. deHaas and myself as we head to Disneyland to ride Peter Pan's Flight!  Recorded on August 22, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Disneyland to ride one of the most iconic Fantasyland dark rides of all time, Peter Pan’s Flight!  The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying, “Soar over London aboard an enchanted pirate ship to Never Land with the boy who wouldn’t grow up.”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes it as a Slow Ride that is Dark, Loud and has small drops.  Before we get sprinkled with Pixie Dust, here are 5 fast facts about Peter Pan’s Flight. 1. Peter Pan’s Flight opened at Disneyland on the park’s opening day, July 17, 1955. 2.  Originally the attraction was meant to put the guests in the role of Peter Pan flying through the ride.  Because of this Peter Pan didn’t appear in the original attraction at all. 3. The ride received a major overhaul in 1983 that added many new elements and finally put Peter Pan in the attraction. 4. In 2015, the attraction closed for another major refurbishment and when it reopened, the attraction feature new animatronics and special effects including new projection mapping and fiber optics. 5. The Pirate Ships guests sit in use an OmniMover system to travel through the attraction.  This is the same system as the one used in Haunted Mansion but flipped allowing the pirate ships to fly through the air. Let’s head for the second star on the right and ride Peter Pan’s Flight.  Along for the adventure is John B. deHaas and after the ride we’ll give you our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we race off to Peter Pan’s Flight at Disneyland! Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #184 for the week of August 22, 2010. This week, I’m pleased to be able to share with you an interview with another Disney Legend. And this one is special because I had the rare opportunity to speak with one of the original Imagineers, and a man who is credited with designing just about anything with wheels for the Disney parks. He is Bob Gurr, whose work on designing the Monorail, OmniMover, Audio-Animatronics, Main Street vehicles and countless others earned him the Disney Legend status in 2004. I had a chance to sit down with Bob and interview him on stage in front of a crowd of Disney enthusiasts at a recent meet, and recorded the audio to share with you. It’s a fascinating look at the life of a man whose work was instrumental in the development of attractions which continue to delight millions of guests to this day. I’ll then have a few announcements and then play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. (((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) In this episode, the Mouse Lounge presents Disney’s fascination with the automobile, or cars… to you and me. From the Walt Disney Archives:  At the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair, Ford presented Disney's "The Magic Skyway," the second most popular exhibit at the fair, using Ford cars in an early prototype of the Omnimover system to move the audience through scenes featuring life-sized audio-animatronic dinosaurs and cavemen.   Walt narrates this forgotten attraction of Yesterdayland. Each week, in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record.   This week, we take a ride back in time to June 6, 1952 for the release of Susie the Little Blue Coupe.  The incomparable Sterling Holloway narrates. Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West.   This week, we double dipstick.  First into Yesterdayland for a  compilation track from Disneyland’s Autopia.  Then we motor back east for a ride on Test Track in Epcot. We'll close this week’s show with a replay of the Mouse Lounge Mix of John Mayer’s Route 66 from Disney/Pixar’s Cars.

Matt and Nate return from a short hiatus to revisit their series on Walt Disney and the 1964 Worlds Fair.  In this episode we explore probably the least known Disney created attraction at the fair; The Magic Skyway.  Sponsored by the Ford Motor Co, this attraction gave guests a look at the history of our planet using the wheel as a catalyst for advancement.  The ride system itself was a breakthrough on its own as Disney helped to create its prototype for the Omnimover, which would prove to be the dominant design in vehicle propulsion in Disney attraction over the next few decades.  While the attraction itself is unknown to most Disney fans, the legacy that it provided is enormous; not only in the ride design but in the show elements and style of presentation as well.  Attractions like World of Motion, The Universe of Energy, The Primeval World Diorama, Spaceship Earth, The Peoplemover and Horizons all owe a debt of gratitude to The Magic Skyway. Also discussed on the show is the 20th anniversary of the film, Dick Tracy, and our thoughts on a specific element to the movies 1990 release. Enjoy!
