In a compelling episode of The Tactical Leader Podcast, host Zack Knight sits down with Jeff Barnes, CEO of Angel Investors Network, to delve into the intricacies of leadership, entrepreneurship, and the ever-challenging world of raising capital. Both military veterans, Zack and Jeff weave personal stories of resilience and lessons learned through hardship into the broader themes of navigating life after the military, building businesses, and helping others unlock financial autonomy.Overcoming Early Challenges: A Foundation for GritJeff's entrepreneurial journey is rooted in adversity. He recalls a tumultuous childhood, where his family fell into homelessness after a failed business partnership. They lived in an old RV, bouncing between California and Colorado, barely scraping by. This early experience, though harrowing, instilled in Jeff an unshakable sense of grit and determination, qualities that would shape his future entrepreneurial success.Rather than becoming risk-averse from these hardships, Jeff embraced the spirit of entrepreneurship. Watching his father toil as a small business owner taught him valuable lessons in hard work, even if scaling the business remained out of reach for his father. “My dad worked in fancy restaurants and mansions in Aspen doing hardwood floors, but he never grew the business,” Jeff reflects, noting that while his father's work ethic was inspiring, it also showed him what not to do in business. From Military to Entrepreneurial SuccessTransitioning from military life to the civilian world wasn't easy for Jeff, a challenge many veterans face. “When you're in the military, you feel like you're making an impact. Once you're out, it's hard to replicate that,” Zack Knight adds. Jeff's early attempts at finding a foothold after the military included ventures in financial planning, real estate, and corporate leadership. Despite his success in various sectors, Jeff struggled with the rigid structures and authority-driven culture of corporate life. This disdain for authority pushed Jeff and his wife to build a chiropractic and functional medicine practice. With determination and smart marketing strategies, they grew it into a seven-figure business within months. “Within 90 days, we had a full schedule. That's when I realized I had the tools to succeed on my own,” Jeff shares. The experience taught him not just how to run a business but how to scale it effectively—a critical skill he now helps other entrepreneurs master.Angel Investors Network: Creating a Legacy Through CapitalAs the CEO of Angel Investors Network, Jeff now helps entrepreneurs raise capital and scale their businesses. His early experiences with financial instability drive his mission to democratize access to capital. “I've tried so many things in my life. Now, with Angel Investors Network, I'm helping others find that same freedom,” Jeff explains. Through his organization, he works to build platforms where companies can raise capital and grow, creating what he calls “Torrential Downpour Economics”—the idea that successful companies spawn entire ecosystems of opportunity and job creation.Zack, reflecting on Jeff's work, recalls attending one of his Nashville events, a space where entrepreneurs can connect with potential investors. With future events planned in Las Vegas and Tampa, the goal is to keep expanding the network and help more business owners secure the funding they need to scale.Key Lessons for Entrepreneurs: Grit, Clarity, and LeadershipThroughout their conversation, Zack and Jeff emphasize three critical elements for entrepreneurial success:1. Grit is Essential: Jeff's rise from homelessness to CEO highlights the importance of resilience in overcoming challenges.2. Clarity of Vision: Jeff advises entrepreneurs to

1. In your opinion, which QB out of Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, or J.J. McCarthy should be the Commanders pick at 2? Washington also has a glaring deficiency at OT as their current depth chart consists of Braeden Daniels, Cornelius Lucas, Andrew Wylie and Trent Scott. If you're Adam Peters, do you try extra hard to package your two second-round picks (36 and 40) to move up into the late 'teens or early 20's to select a tackle? 2. What do you think is the better plan for the Giants: trading up to 3 or 4 to select Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy, or taking one of the stud WR's at 6 and using their second-round pick on Michael Penix, Jr.? 3. With numerous OT-needy teams picking ahead of them (Raiders at 13, Saints at 14, Bengals at 18, Rams at 19, Steelers at 20, and the Dolphins at 21), do you think the Eagles would be more than willing to package one of those second-round picks to move up to 15 with the Colts, or even to 12 with the Broncos in order to get their long-term successor to Lane Johnson? 4. Dallas must find multiple starters in this draft. And as an NFC scouting director told ESPN NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid, a potential reason for the Cowboys' quiet free agency is that "they seem to be confident" in doing just that. Do you share the Cowboys supposed confidence? Would you anticipate two of the Cowboys three top-100 picks being spent on the offensive line given the departures of Tyler Biadasz and Tyron Smith? 5. However, issues with a supplier in China led to the business facing bankruptcy after they were unable to fulfill orders for 6 weeks without informing Jeff. Jeff touched on lessons learned like the importance of checking orders and having transparency in the supply chain. He also stressed the need to carefully consider costs and have the right team in place to support growth. While the business failed, Jeff was able to leverage his marketing skills to start an agency and also continues to advise other entrepreneurs on scaling. An interesting point was how a single unreliable supplier can bring down an entire rapidly growing business.

1. Last week, shortly after NFL free agency began, we saw a rather unprecedented market for running backs develop, especially by today's standards. And a big reason why that happened, according to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network, is that the NFL is very down on the 2024 RB class. So I have a two-part question for you Jeff. First, what is your overall assessment of this crop of running backs and second, regardless of what you believe, why do you think NFL scouts and personnel executives feel the way they do? 2. Based on his film alone, why do you think most consider Jonathan Brooks to be the best RB of the bunch? Even though he is still recovering from an ACL tear, would you still be surprised if he isn't the first RB off the board? 3. Do you think Blake Corum is more of a second-string RB, even though he has an every-down skill-set? Hypothetically speaking, if Corum got selected by Jim Harbaugh (who obviously coached him in college) and the Chargers on late Day 2 or early Day 3, can you see him becoming a bona fide NFL starter? 4. Given that the NFL highly covets skill position players who are known for making explosive plays (10+ yards) on a regular basis, would you be surprised if Jaylen Wright is the second RB off the board? 5. Bucky Irving is undersized (5-9, 192) and his lack of explosiveness was on full display at the Combine. Were you surprised by that aspect of his performance in Indy and can he still be an effective "change-up" option in an NFL RB stable? 6. Trey Benson only averaged 13.5 touches per game last season and only hit the 20-carry mark in one game during his two-year collegiate career. Do you think he is fully capable of shouldering a bigger load in the NFL? 7. 1. Aside from positional value, what makes J.J. McCarthy worth a top-10 pick, and would it surprise you if he got drafted before either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye? 2. One player expected to shine in on-field workouts at the Combine is Texas DT Byron Murphy. According to NFL Draft Analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic, Murphy's goals are to run a 4.8-second 40, a 7.2-second three cone drill, and do "at least" 35 bench press reps. If he hits those numbers, will Byron Murphy solidify himself as a top-15 pick in this draft? 3. Should he test as well or better than expected, can you see Chop Robinson being a top-20 pick, especially given the fact the league constantly emphasizes traits when it comes to rushing the QB? 4. If Amarius Mims posts freakish testing numbers as expected and passes medical exams, does that make him the clear-cut OT4 in this class, if not better? 5. "Are Lee and Dan Cockerell really like that everywhere? That's right, they are." Author and speaker known as Dr. Disneyland, Jeff Barnes, returns to the Jody Mayberry Show to ask me three questions. He hit it out of the park with his questions, including my childhood inspiration to become a park ranger. We also get into some of the experiences I've had with former Disney executives, Lee Cockerel and Dan Cockerell. As a kid I can remember going on family vacations and admiring the hats and uniforms of park rangers. The more I learned about them and their dedication to protecting the parks, I became even more interested in becoming a ranger. In a similar sense, the more I got to know Dan and Lee Cockerell, my understanding and appreciation for the Cockerell legacy grew. Their lessons gave me a unique determination to excel in the new direction of my career. One of my favorite memories with Lee Cockerell came during a recent visit to Hollywood Studios. It was the first time we had gone to a park together after working together for nine years. Lee had never been to Galaxy's Edge before, and it was amazing to experience the ride together. Lee and Dan have been great examples of pursuing new opportunities, while cherishing where you've been and what you've done. For me, that includes the fond memories of the parks and park rangers that ignited my dreams in the first place.   "Every great story requires conflict." Jeff Barnes had an underwhelming first experience at Disneyland. So much so that it sparked his curiosity about why people loved the park so much. His insatiable curiosity led him to research Walt Disney's life and the adversity he faced. It was through this research that Jeff discovered Walt's desire to be remembered as a storyteller and the importance of overcoming adversity in achieving success. This realization drove Jeff to create a course that uses Disney's stories to inspire and motivate students to face their own challenges and achieve their dreams. Jeff's journey took a dramatic turn when he was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor immediately after starting the course. Rather than giving in to fear, Jeff chose to delay surgery and continue teaching the class. Throughout our conversation Jeff shares about the moments of resiliency he had learned from Walt Disney and how that ultimately shaped his success. His experience with the brain tumor gave him the courage to finally write his long-dreamed-of book about Disneyland. Now, as an author, speaker, and blogger, Jeff continues to use Disney's lessons and creativity to inspire and motivate people to embrace adversity and live their best lives. In this episode, you will be able to: Discover Jeff Barnes' intriguing transformation from professor to Disney entrepreneur Gain valuable insights on the crucial role self-belief and resiliency play in achieving success Delve into Jeff's captivating book, Wednesdays with Walt, and his exceptional presentation style Absorb inspiring lessons from Walt to spark creativity and motivation within yourself Find out how signing up for Jeff's email list and joining Phoenix Club will enrich your experience Jeff's approach of using Walt Disney's lessons and creativity to inspire and motivate people to achieve their dreams inspiring to anyone who feels stuck and hopeless. Walt Disney is commonly looked at as a successful entrepreneur. A good example of what you can achieve if you simply roll up your sleeves and do it. While much of that is true, we can't all be Walt, right? We suffer setbacks, negative thinking, and no all of us have a Roy to help guide us ... so what hope do we have of reaching OUR goals? Jeff takes us on a grand circle tour of his book, "The Wisdom of Walt", and how he has taken Walt's life lessons and turned them into easily approachable examples for us to effect change in our own lives! ---------------- Support the show! Scott Krinsky joins Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke in the pool house to discuss Season 4, Episode 3, “The Cold Turkey.” Many of you know Scott as Jeff Barnes in the hit TV series, Chuck, but he guested on The O.C. first playing the lovable and much needed comic relief character, Daryll!  Scott talks about how he got cast on The OC, and tells a very funny OC joke from his stand-up routine!  The trio also talk about Iron Man, spoiler alert for you non-Avengers fans  and their favorite food items from Chilis!  The Cold Turkey synopsis: As Thanksgiving approaches, Sandy is approached by the fugitive Kevin Volchock to negotiate a surrender for the car accident that unintentionally killed Marissa. Ryan finds out about Sandy's meeting with him, and tries to take advantage to get his revenge against Volchock. Meanwhile, Seth agrees to let Taylor stay at the Cohen house while Kirsten encourages her to face her mother to reveal the truth about her stay in Paris. Also, bad-girl Kaitlin meddles more in the conflict between Julie and Neil to cause more friction between them, while Summer also arrives back in town for Thanksgiving and is not pleased to see Taylor staying with the Cohens.
