Teagasc researcher Peter Doyle joins Catherine Egan on this week's Beef Edge podcast to give an update on the Derrypatrick herd in Grange. Peter discusses how calving went this spring and how breeding season went on the farm. The pre-breeding scan was well worthwhile this year, Peter explained, and helped resolve any issues before they arose. Perter discussed the traits that sires were selected on and which sires were used. Being the wettest July on record Peter also discusses the impact this has had on performance and getting second cut of silage harvested. With a lot of clover sown this year Peter explains how he went about over-sowing it. He also outlined all the areas of focus for the coming month in advance of weaning and the herd health protocol. We also wish Michael McManus well in his new post and wish Niamh Doyle all the best in Derrypatrick. Welcome to Day 1699 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Best Sermon – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! We are on Day 1699 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Benjamin Franklin, and it is: A good example is the best sermon. The Best Sermon A life lived well and for the betterment of others will always carry more weight than anything that we may speak. But, unfortunately, too often, people tell us the right thing to do, yet they do not follow their advice. However, there are those few special people in our life that we can look up to. We look up to them because they not only teach us the right way to live our lives, but they also provide us with a good example. We can certainly learn more from a person who sets a good example than someone who does not walk their talk. When we see another person living right it becomes contagious. They draw you tho them like a moth to a flame. You desire to be around them and to emulate them. Our actions always speak louder than our words. Others will notice when you live right and will be much more willing to listen to you when you are speaking. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2013%3A1&version=NLT (1 Corinthians 13:1) If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+3%3A15-16&version=NLT (1 Perter 3:15-16) Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1698 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. I encourage you to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day's trek will be downloaded automatically. If you have not done so, please consider giving us a five-star rating so that others will also join us in mining our nuggets of wisdom. Thank you so much for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and, most of all, your friend as I serve you through this Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal. As we take this Trek together, let us always: Live Abundantly (Fully) Love Unconditionally Listen Intentionally Learn Continuously Lend to others Generously Lead with Integrity Leave a Living Legacy Each Day I am Guthrie Chamberlain….reminding you to 'Keep Moving Forward,' ‘Enjoy your Journey,' and ‘Create a Great Day…Everyday'! See you Tomorrow for more daily wisdom!
Most of us know very little about fungi in contrast to their vast presence and integral role in our world. Sometimes called, "the earth's internet" fungi, specifically mycelium connect literally everything. They are the ultimate recyclers, decomposing and upcycling waste into food, medicine, building materials, and more. Our guest, Peter McCoy recognized his passion for fungi while still in high school. Around that same time, he also began to recognize the profound lack of education and awareness around them. Peter's personal journey to learn about this mysterious and integral kingdom led him to eventually write the most comprehensive singular work on fungi to date. His book, "Radical Mycology: A Treatise on Seeing & Working With Fungi" has sparked events, film fests, online educational tools, and a startup called Mycocycle. We asked Perter many questions in this ep and learned, we have so much more to learn about these incredible (sometimes edible) organisms. #6 Did you know the Bible says Christian teachers will be held to a higher standard? You can read it for yourself in James 3:1My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. The first time I read this scripture I said to myself, "Who would ever want to be a teacher and put themselves in a position to receive stricter judgment?" I decided that day I wouldn't be a teacher. You and I both know God has a sense of humor and He has given me a "gift" of teaching and I love it. I know who is going to be judging me so I try to make sure everything I teach is Bible-based. That does not mean I've got it all figured out but I'm going to do my best to represent God's word. I figured out I am going to answer to God so that is my standard. I ask God to help me and when I get something wrong I ask Him for forgiveness. Now you know my standard, I want to "flex" my teaching muscle on this podcast. I was reading 2 Peter one morning and I read 2 Perter 3:8 and the verse "jumped out" to me. (As you may have learned in previous lessons this is where I stop and "meditate" on what or why God has pondering this verse)When I did I started to see the "math" in this verse and knew if I could figure out what "God-Time" looked like it would help me give a better picture of what my time was worth if I spend it on "spiritual" stuff. It took me about a day to figure out and create the calculator but I thought it was cool and wanted to share it with you.You can go to the show notes on this episode and try it out for free.https://nodoubtonlybelieve.com/

One of the most important lessons within healing is the lesson of patience.Something many do not understand is that the more patient we are the faster healing happens. This is often seen as counterintuitive so in this episode we break it down for all to understand!Perter also shares one of his Habits That Heal, which explains in detail the importance of patience. To connect with Sky Denton - https://www.skydenton.com/To connect with Peter Winslow - http://asvictors.com/

Prepare for Easter: Spend time on the Via Dolorosa- the way of suffering Time at the foot of the cross – the symbol of suffering and death And at the tomb where Jesus was laid and and remained for three days, but from where he was raised We may never get to travel to Jerusalem, but I pray that we can walk through the Scriptures and wrestle with the significance of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. John 19:1-16 One of the most perplexing questions about Jesus is “Who caused Jesus to suffer?” Had we been there on that Friday and seen Jesus before Jewish leaders and Roman officials, had we seen him whipped, beaten, mocked, tortured and killed, had we known his innocence, we would ask, “who did this?” “Who caused him to suffer?l Fearful men, bloodthirsty men, corrupt men conspired to kill Jesus. Jewish religious rulers conspired to kill Jesus out of jealousy. The Roman soldiers were violent and bloodthirsty men. They enjoyed the sport. The Roman governor washed his hands of the matter, but allowed a man he knew was innocent to be killed, fearful of a disturbance. But it wasn’t just because of the sins of these men that Jesus suffered. John 1 says that Jesus is a light sent into a dark and sinful world. But He was rejected. John 3:19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. It was as though God sent his Son as a light into the dark world, but we loved the dark so much we said, snuff it out. Turn off the light. We love darkness, we don’t want our sin to be exposed. Your sin and my sin and the sins of all mankind caused Jesus to suffer. It was also God’s will that Jesus should suffer. Acts 22:22-23 22 "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know- 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. Isaiah 53:10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. Who caused Jesus to suffer? Sinful man in a specific place and time caused Jesus to suffer. All men over all time caused Jesus’ suffering by all our sin. This was according to God’s plan and foreknowledge. Why did Jesus suffer? Why did God allow it, even plan for it? Jesus did not deserve to suffer. He was sinless. 1 Perter 2:22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. Our sin provoked the wrath of God. Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. In the Bible a metaphor used for wrath is a cup or bowl of strong drink poured out. Jesus prayed before his arrest in Gethsemane Matthew 26:39b "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." Because Jesus substituted himself for us Why did Jesus suffer? Because he took the wrath of God for you and me – propitiation. Jesus took the cup of God’s wrath for me and you. He absorbed our punishment. 1Pet3.18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit. You cannot be tolerant of your own sin. Lust, indifference about building God’s kingdom, lukewarm love for Him. We are forgiven – but even more, we are rescued from bondage to sin. Know the price that was paid, we cannot linger in it any longer. Thank God for absorbing God’s wrath for your sin.
