In this episode, I share how my worldview began to shift once I realized I'd grown up believing that all cultures were more or less the same—that we were all just decent people trying to get by. But as I began learning Torah and Jewish history, I started to see that Judaism introduced something radically different to the world. To unpack this further, I invited Rabbi Ken Spiro, historian and author of WorldPerfect: The Jewish Impact on Civilization, to join me.We explore how values we take for granted today—like the sanctity of life, equality before the law, and social justice—weren't universal at all, but were introduced to the world through the Torah. Rabbi Spiro walks us through the brutal norms of the ancient world and shows how the Jewish people, guided by the concept of ethical monotheism, reshaped human history not through conquest, but through values. It's a conversation that deepens Jewish pride and clarifies our role in the world today.Buy Rabbi Spiro's Book - WorldPerfect: The Jewish Impact on Civilization Join the Conversation! What happens when two of the world's oldest and most influential religions—Judaism and Catholicism—stand side by side? Today, we explore the shared roots, divergent paths, painful history, and surprising points of connection between these two traditions. From ancient Israel to Vatican II, from the Hebrew Bible to the New Testament, and from centuries of tension to moments of true dialogue, we ask: What do Jews and Catholics really believe about one another? How have theology, politics, and history shaped that relationship—and where do we go from here?Join us as we unpack the theological crossroads, cultural intersections, and the evolving conversation between Catholicism and Judaism—past, present, and future.Want more history? Growing up in a non-religious, Reform Jewish household in New Rochelle, New York, Rabbi Ken Spiro never imagined he'd find himself living a deeply Jewish life in Israel. Yet, a transformative experience witnessing the bravery of young Russian Jews practicing their faith in the Soviet era ignited his own spiritual journey. Rabbi Spiro shares the pivotal moments that led him to Aish HaTorah Yeshiva in Jerusalem, originally intended as a short visit but evolving into a lifelong commitment. With anecdotes of family expectations and the serendipitous role of Dennis Prager, Rabbi Spiro's story is a testament to the power of personal growth and rediscovering one's roots. This episode delves into themes of personal development, the delicate balance between religious obligations and personal life, and the joy found in aligning one's inner beliefs with outward actions. Rabbi Spiro reflects on the rewards and challenges faced within the yeshiva setting and discusses the ongoing tensions surrounding military service in Israel. Through exploring the integration of diverse communities in the IDF and the sacrifices made by the religious nationalist community, we highlight the resilience, unity, and productivity of the Jewish people. To understand the current state of Israel and the Jewish people, we must first explore our history, beginning with the formation of the Jewish people through Abraham. Significant events in history set the stage for future developments, and the conflicts between Isaac and Ishmael—stemming from Isaac's birthright as the progenitor of the Jewish people—and between Jacob and Esau over the birthright have echoed through the ages. In this episode, Rabbi Ken Spiro helps us gain insight into our past, present, and future as we strive to resolve this long-standing sibling rivalry. ★ Support this podcast ★

The hosts examine the historical context of left-wing antisemitism, tracing its roots in early socialism and Marxism, and discussing its manifestation in modern political movements.
