Meet Justin and Rebecca Rush, the creators of the River Rock Cabin on the Toccoa River in Blue Ridge, Georgia. Justin and Rebecca are real estate photographers who had always dreamed of one day building their very own Airbnb…long after they had built their primary dream home, of course. One day Justin got a text from one of his clients about a piece of land that was for sale along the Toccoa River. Justin assumed the call was a request to go take pictures of the lot, but his client asked him if HE wanted to buy it…he knew how much Justin and Rebecca loved the area… Once Justin figured out he wasn't joking he immediately said, “yes”... There was only one problem — the home was only permitted for a 1 bedroom/1 bathroom which was too small for the primary residence they were hoping to build. But the land was WAY too beautiful to pass up and that's when the idea of building a unique cabin into the side of the mountain that overlooks 300 feet of private river frontage was born. In this conversation, you'll discover: How Rebecca and Justin build a stunning cabin on the side of a mountain during COVID How they got inspiration from Levi Kelly's YouTube channel for their build — and the story behind how Levi wound up coming to the cabin the month after it opened How they financed the build Their honest thoughts on the cons of direct booking Some ideas they have for modernizing RV parks as a next project And so much more Book a stay at the River Rock House Follow the River Rock House on Instagram This episode is brought to you by our friends at AirDNA Want to see if a Treehouse resort in Dubai pencils? On today's episode we have the pleasure of sitting down with Charlie (lead vocals) and Alex (bass) from Flight Club (NOT Fight Club); a four piece rock band hailing from our own RVA! We saw them play at River Rock last year after they were handing out free stickers to the crowd and we were blown away by their music. They played an amazing pop-punk cover of Unwritten by Natasha Bendingfield and we were instantly hooked! We also saw them more recently at the Broadberry when they opened for 408 and We The Kings. They sound right on par with those two big bands. Today you'll learn all about the band. Big Daddy will also drop it on us with some funny news about this year's Coachella and we'll discuss the pay gap between men and women's basketball. It’s a celebratory show as we celebrate what would have been the 20 year anniversary of Team/TSN 1040 sports talk radio. The Welcome Matt features a special appearance from legendary sportscaster David Pratt. Big Daddy shares his story and his favourite moments while working at 1040. One of the founders of 1040 Tom Mayenknecht follows and explains just how the station came to fruition and why the late Paul Carson and Tom thought that sports talk radio could work in Vancouver. Our Friday Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal joins next. Dhali was a day one employee at 1040 and once had a legendary night in Vegas that will live forever in Vancouver sports talk lore. Iain McLetchie follows a condensed version of Tell Me I’m Wrong and divulges what 1040 had planned for the 20 year anniversary and his tales during his 15+ years working at the station. Jeff Paterson joins for his last hit of the week. J Pat was also a long time 1040 employee who saw and did almost everything at the station over his two stints, including doing play-by-play for a boxing match at the River Rock. We play Hot Take for the last time this week, where Andrew drops a take that Matt and Blake just can’t wrap their heads around. Errors and Omissions wraps up the show as we head into the weekend.
