How's your J1 JPred looking after Matchday 1? Early days of course, but as is tradition here on J-Talk, we like to overreact wildly to a very small sample size, so with our annual hat tip to the ESPN Fantasy Focus (American) Football podcast, Scott McIntyre guests for Overreaction Theatre. We begin with news of a COVID-19 outbreak at FC Tokyo that has seen their next two games postponed, then chat about Tokyo's trip to Kawasaki that kicked-off the season last Friday night - Frontale took the points thanks to Leandro Damiao, but the visitors drew praise from all quarters for their performance (to 21:00). Next we move on to the most surprising result from Matchday 1 - promoted Kyoto's terrific 1-0 home win over an Urawa side that many (over 30% of JPred'ers, actually) have tipped for the title (to 29:30). From there we work our way through the other seven games, including first up wins for Nagoya, Kashima and Kashiwa, and finish with the four draws from the opening weekend.
Rob Gilbert, Derek Dyson & Willem van Denderen are joined by The Asian Game's Scott McIntyre to review the Socceroos 2-1 loss to Japan on Tuesday night, the Samurai Blue pegging back three points in what is proving an enthralling AFC World Cup qualifying group. The Athletic's Chris Waugh also returns to the show to discuss the finer points of Newcastle United's takeover by a Saudi-backed consortium, how the news has been received by fans at St James' Park, and what it could mean for Steve Bruce. European qualifiers, the UEFA Women's Champions League & Diego Castro's legacy at Perth Glory are also on the agenda. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Samurai Blue supporters sat through another couple of difficult watches in this international break, but the 2-1 win over Australia on Tuesday night appears to have kept the wolves from Hajime Moriyasu's door, and kept Japan in the hunt for a spot at the 2022 World Cup. Scott McIntyre guests for a (very brief, thankfully) look back at the loss in Saudi Arabia last week, and then a more thorough review of the clash against the Socceroos, before a chat about some of the wider issues surrounding the national team, and Moriyasu's future (to 37:40). Then in Part 2 we round up the Levain Cup semi finals (to 49:20), and chat about the J1 title race, before a brief look ahead to the weekend's top flight fixtures.
The latest InFOCUS Podcast, presented by dot.fm, expands on the Radio + Television Business Report's coverage on October 6 of how a radio or television company should act when one of its high-profile employees becomes the subject of allegations that not only harm the individual, but could also damage the station they are associated with. The topic is today a big one, largely due to claims offered by three women who once worked with a Chicago-based morning show host employed by Hubbard Broadcasting. One of the women is a former co-host who exited in December 2020.Allegations are just that, claims. But, a radio or TV station can't just sit there while its employee is tarnished through social media and, quite frankly, the crosstown linear media competition. What's the first best act a station's management should take?Scott McIntyre, a partner in the labor and employment practice at the law firm of BakerHostetler, joins us from its Cincinnati office to answer this and other timely questions in an interview with RBR+TVBR Editor-in-Chief Adam R Jacobson.
No sugar coating things here - Japan were poor in their latest World Cup qualifiers, and Scott McIntyre guests for a discussion on some of the problems the Samurai Blue are having under Hajime Moriyasu, while we also touch on Japan's next two opponents, Saudi Arabia and Australia (to 35:05). Hi everyone, before we go to the episode with Scott McIntyre, I would like to remind everyone that we recently launched a petition targeted at the Japanese government to stand up for the 3million kids who have been trafficked since 1991, legally with the help of single custody laws in Japan. Japan does not recognize joint custody laws as the lawyers and judges profit from it and receive up to 30% of child support payments until the child reaches 20 years of age! While it's a gain for the lawyers and judges, this is a loss-loss situation for the children and parents affected by the single custody law.Winning this campaign depends on our ability to call on thousands of supporters like you. Your signature(support) is all that we need. Please support our petition and tell the International Organizations and the government to pressure Japan to adopt a joint custody law. You can find the petition at https://www.change.org/jointcustodyjapan.Now, in today's episode we are speaking to an Australian named Scott McIntyre who have been making waves when it comes to the issue of child abduction and parental alienation In Japan.Scott was detained for 45 days in Tokyo for trespassing when he went to his in-laws' apartment to seek information on his two children. He remains married, has no restraining order against him, retains full parental rights, but has not been able to see his children since May 2019, when his wife left with them. While researching for the our petition, I watched a video of Scott on YouTube, and I knew that we needed to get him on the podcast to explain further why the petition that we created is important. I have included a short sound bite from the clip in this podcast and the full clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0NTQX92o68Please support our petition and tell the International Organizations and the government to pressure Japan to adopt a joint custody law .Winning this campaign depends on our ability to call on thousands of supporters like you. Scott McIntyre guests this week for a look at the wretched situation at Gamba Osaka, who sacked manager Tsuneyasu Miyamoto late last week, and then slumped to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Urawa on Sunday (to 31:30). The rest of Part 1 covers weekend wins for the top two in J1 in Matchday 14, and Tosu's draw at Oita (to 54:34). Then Part 2 begins with Kashima's stunning home smashing of Yokohama F.Marinos, and also includes 1-0 away wins for the two promoted sides, before wrapping up with Yokohama FC's first win of the season and Scott's new boyfriend(s).
Scott McIntyre guests as we review the weekend's J1 Matchday 4. Before that though, we begin the episode by checking in with Gamba Osaka correspondent Jonny Nicol on the already perilous-looking state of Gamba's fixture list after the COVID-19 outbreak at the club, then we ever so briefly round up last Wednesday's Matchday 3 (to 15:26). Scott then climbs aboard and we begin our weekend wrap with Nagoya's third straight 1-0 win, before we have an extended chat about this season's surprise packet Tosu (to 40:00): Are Sagan ACL bound? Next two clashes between teams who won for the first time in midweek - Kashima and Hiroshima drawing in Ibaraki and Yokohama F.Marinos cruising past Urawa, before we move on to ruthlessly efficient champions Kawasaki after their home win over Kashiwa (to 1:05:35). After the break two relegation dogfight six-pointers, that saw Fukuoka come from behind to win at Tokushima and Shonan add to Sendai's misery (to 1:19:50), before we finish with another sound beating for Yokohama FC, this time at the hands of Cerezo Osaka, and the draw between Oita and FC Tokyo.

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Nané over Zoom video! Nané is a high-energy six-piece outfit from Austin, TX who caught the attention of Brittany Howard in June 2020 with their “Blue Velvet” music video. Howard selected them as one of her five picks for this year’s NPR Tiny Desk Contest, commenting on the groove while giving major props to lead singer Daniel Sahad who she applauded for his “no holds barred” performance.Sahad hails from the Dominican Republic. His grandparents are respectively Black, White, Latino and Arab (Lebanese). An offspring of globalism, Daniel comes from a lineage of courageous individuals who broke barriers to pursue their dreams. Called Nané as a term of endearment by his family in the Dominican Republic, Sahad determined the band’s name with a communal approach in mind – when you call him Nané, you’re family too.Nané (the band) came together in 2016 at The University of Texas at Austin where Daniel and guitarist, Ian Green, would drink and play cover songs for their friends. The pair quickly realized their potential to write original music together. The boys added bass player Scott McIntyre to the lineup and began writing their debut album while performing with Dayglow drummer, Brady Knippa, and Black Pumas keyboardist, JaRon Marshall. Nané rose quickly on the Austin music scene, playing a series of sold-out shows in front of the shimmering curtains of Stay Gold. In their first year as a band, Nané has headlined for crowds of over 1,000 people, as well as opened shows for Black Pumas, Bob Schneider, Eric Tessmer and Sir Woman. They also spent time in the studio recording their debut record with Grammy-award winning drummer, John Speice IV, on production and Adrian Quesada of the Black Pumas engineering and mixing. Their debut album was released on November 13, 2020!We want to hear from you! After a huge week in J1 both on and off the pitch, Dan Orlowitz and Scott McIntyre return with star guest turns. In Part 1 (to 13:30) Dan fills us in on the latest (at the time of recording on Monday night) at Nagoya Grampus, whose Matchday 7 fixture away at Hiroshima was postponed after two more players and a member of staff tested positive for COVID-19. This story remains fluid, and Nagoya's Matchday 8 fixture remains in doubt - be sure to follow Dan on Twitter for updates. Then Scott joins us to discuss leaders Kawasaki after they notched two come from behind victories in the past week, and we wonder if second-placed Gamba Osaka, who zipped up the table after an impressive week of their own, will offer Frontale a sterner test when the top two clash this coming Saturday. From there we move on to FC Tokyo and Cerezo Osaka after their pair of draws, before we stretch our leg(s) (at 52:47) and finish with a flourish, chatting about Matchday 7 wins for Urawa, Kashiwa, Sapporo and Shimizu.
The wait is over... It's baaaaack! Alan Gibson and Scott McIntyre join Sam and Ben for a full preview of the J1 Matchday 2 slate. In Part 1 (to 46:26) Alan shares his thoughts on the Osaka Derby, Hiroshima's visit to Kobe, Shimizu hosting Jo-less Nagoya, and Oita entertaining Tosu (though whether the game will be entertaining is up for debate) in the Kyushu Derby. Then Scott joins us as we look ahead to Yokohama F.Marinos' trip to Urawa, Kawasaki and Kashiwa at home to Kashima and FC Tokyo respectively in tasty looking ties, Shonan hosting Sendai and Sapporo visiting Yokohama FC.
After we reveal the winner of the 2020 Levain Cup, Sam and Ben are joined by budding novelist Scott McIntyre for a hard-hitting look at the prospects of a mid-June return for the J.League, and an anytime-in-2020 resumption of the ACL. Look out for Scott's debut novel 'Love In The Time Of Corona' on bookstands at an airport near you when it is safe to resume air travel.
We wondered if it was worth doing an episode this week, then news of Gotoku Sakai's positive test for Covid-19 broke on Monday evening, we got Scott McIntyre on the line, and the rest is history. Scott is with us until about the 27:30 mark (with a cameo from his travel companion, Alex Bishop), then Sam and I soldier on. Lots of negative J.League and Japanese society-based news here, but on the flip side, I don't think I've ever had more fun in the editing suite.
The 2020 J.League season gets going on Friday night, and to get you ready for the big kickoff we opened the door for any and all questions on J1, and our Patreon supporters and twitter followers certainly did not let us down. Here in Part 1 of our Quextravaganza, special guest Dan Orlowitz from The Japan Times joined Sam and myself to answer the first batch of queries from our audience, while this episode also features my catch up with Scott McIntyre (this runs from 21:02 to 1:08:43).

Never miss another interview! Join Devin here: http://bit.ly/joindevin. Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://bit.ly/2x7dcuq. Crowdfunding is no longer a novelty. It is part of the fabric of the global economy. Within that fabric, one of the brightly colored threads is Indiegogo, having helped entrepreneurs to raise over $1.5 billion. As I’ve followed the company and its work over the years, I’ve had some favorite social impact projects. One stands out: Solar Roadways. Scott and Julie Brusaw of Sandpoint, Idaho—as small and remote a town as you might imagine—came up with the idea to make solar panels rugged enough to drive on, while incorporating a variety of features like snow melting and LED lighting that would allow an operator to change traffic patterns. The idea was too novel (read, crazy) for any traditional investor, the sort of person the Brusaws had likely never met, anyway. So, in 2014, they launched a campaign on Indiegogo and raised $2,284,774. Today, the solar panels are in production. Indiegogo has created a platform for entrepreneurs of all stripes—including social entrepreneurs like the Brusaws—to fund projects that would likely have been funded in no other way. Not everyone who tries to raise money is successful. Not everyone who raises money is successful at accomplishing what they set out to do. Still, the entrepreneurial ecosystem has been forever changed by Indiegogo and crowdfunding. Is he doing anything wrong? PLEASE NOTE: I didn't bother editing out naughty words in this one, so if you have kids in the car you may not wish to expose them to our awful language.
This week the panel discuss how SBS sports presenter Scott McIntyre lost his job over tweets about ANZAC Day, how ACMA's findings might be used to punish 2DayFM over their infamous Royal Prank call and whether Charlie Pickering's new show The Weekly is the news satire show we really need. With Michael Bodey (The Australian), Chris Graham (New Matilda) and Chris Berg (ABC The Drum).
