POPULARITY
Welcome back to another episode of BUTT HONESTLY—where the slopes are slippery and apparently so is the competition. This week, the guys ski straight into the headlines with chatter about Olympic ski jumpers allegedly getting a little… plumped before takeoff. Is it aerodynamics? Is it vanity? Is it just very enthusiastic tailoring? We investigate! In the mail sack, we've got a Booty Gangster with a less-talked-about diagnosis—H. pylori—because sometimes the real party is in your stomach. Another listener wants to know how to properly Doxy PEP for vacation (nothing says “bon voyage” like a pill schedule), and someone else writes in about a LOUD MOAN in the dark that may or may not have caused a mild panic. Subtlety? Never heard of her.The guys also unpack the cancellation of Boots—but why though? Industry tea is spilled respectfully-ish. And with Valentine's Day upon us (aka Singles Awareness Day, aka Buy Yourself the Flowers Day), Dr. Carlton and Dangilo reflect on love, lust, and the art of pretending you “didn't want to go out anyway.”As always, they wrap it all up with Love Language of the Week—because whether you're plumped, PEP'd, pylori-positive, or passionately loud, you still deserve connection.Press play. It's competitive out here.
It's an uncomfortably romantic episode where Travis catches P.J. off guard, reminding him the National Day of Amore (that's "love" in Italian for those of you that don't Habla espagnole) is mere days away. Putting him into full panic mode. They then play a game based around this Festival of Devotion to guess words written on sugary sweets. The winner gets a delicious Blizzard. Mmmmm blizzards... It's all X's and O's during this year's Singles Awareness Day. Basically, Saint Valentine is turning over in his grave. Great Law. Less Legal. Law Done Lite!

Valentine's Criticism Reigns: Contemporary critiques of Valentine's Day frequently focus on personal and psychological dimensions. For individuals not engaged in romantic relationships, whether by choice, circumstance, or loss, the holiday can intensify feelings of isolation and exclusion. Even among couples, the expectation to perform elaborate gestures may generate anxiety, as the authenticity of emotion is often overshadowed by societal pressures for spectacle. Cultural responses to these tensions have included satire and subversion, such as the nineteenth-century practice of sending "Vinegar Valentines," which exposed the holiday's potential for social critique and malice. In the present day, Singles Awareness Day, typically observed on February 15, serves as both a satirical protest and a celebration of singlehood, reflecting the holiday's ambivalence. The "Opt-Out" movement, characterized by deliberate non-participation, represents a quiet assertion of autonomy against social and commercial expectations. Central to these critiques is the argument that Valentine's Day is a manufactured or “Hallmark Holiday," driven by marketing interests rather than cultural tradition. The substantial expenditures on gifts and experiences reinforce concerns that expressions of love have been commodified and that intimacy has been appropriated by commercial interests. What are we to make of this chorus of critique amidst the chorus of celebration? Rather than seeing them as opposites, we should see them as the necessary tension that gives the holiday its full, complex meaning. The anti-Valentine's Day perspectives act as a vital immune system for the culture. They check the spread of empty commercialism. They protect space for those who feel excluded. They insist that love, in all its forms, must be authentic, not performative. They remind us that agape, philia, and storge are as vital as eros. In the end, the traditionalist celebrating a decades-long marriage, the friend raising a glass on Galentine's, the skeptic opting out with a good book, and the activist performing anonymous kindness are all, in their way, responding to the same human prompt. They are all navigating the fundamental questions Valentine's Day, at its core, forces to the surface: What does love mean to me? How do I best express it? And how do I connect, meaningfully, with the world around me? The true universality of Valentine's Day lies not in a single, prescribed ritual, but in this shared, searching conversation. It is a day that, for all its flaws and fripperies, makes us stop and consider the architecture of our hearts. And in that collective pause—whether we are buying roses, texting a friend, or critiquing the whole affair—we are, more meaningfully than we might think, celebrating the same intricate, messy, and essential human feast.More PodcastsProduced by SimVal Media Group, USA

Have you ever looked at your social media and felt disappointed because it seems that you're mainly followed by therapists? In this month's social media episode, I'm exploring the question of why clients don't always follow us, even when we're sharing thoughtful, reflective content. Is it really the problem we think it is, and what can we do about it?We look at how fear of visibility, professional language, and wanting to get things “right” can influence how you post and the impact that has on making connections with clients. I also explore what clients are actually looking for when they follow therapists on social media, and why warmth and feeling understood matter far more than sounding impressive or knowledgeable. This episode lays the groundwork for the next couple of monthly social media episodes, where I'll continue to unpack this topic and look more closely at what helps clients feel safe enough to follow you, and how trust builds over time.In this episode, I cover:Why therapists in private practice often attract other therapists on social mediaWhy this is a completely normal stageHow fear of visibility and judgement affects what we shareThe difference between therapist-facing and client-facing contentWhy clients follow therapists who help them feel understoodWhy there's nothing “wrong” with your content - it just may not be shaped for clients yetI also share four simple, client-focused themes you can use in February to help your social media speak more directly to the general public:Talking about feelings and reaching out for support (Time to Talk Day, Children's Mental Health Week)Love, loneliness, and the ways we connect (Valentine's Day, Singles Awareness Day, Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week)Identity, inclusion, and feeling safe (LGBTQ+ History Month, Stand Up to Bullying Day)Nourishing your wellbeing (Boost Your Self-Esteem Month, Eating Disorders Awareness Week)You can also find me here:The Good Enough Counsellors Facebook GroupJosephine Hughes on FacebookJosephine Hughes on YouTubeMy website: josephinehughes.comSetting up in private practice? When most people think of February and love, they think of Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is the holiday for couples. But what if you aren't part of a couple? Kim shares her personal story of how painful Valentine's Day was for her after the death of her husband and what she did about it. She reminds people to check in on those who may be grieving during the month of love, especially when they are grieving the loss of their partner, whether through death, divorce or decision. Single, when not by choice, can be an especially challenging status around Valentine's Day. She goes on to remind us of Man Day on February 12, Galentine's Day on February 13 and Singles Awareness Day on February 15. Whatever your relationship status, there are always ways to find love in February or any time of year. You can honor and appreciate the men in your life, get out and party with the women in your life or work on self-love during Singles Awareness Day. Love is in the air...
