In a process with as many steps as choosing, applying to, and being accepted at a target higher education institution, small improvements in efficiency at any point can compound dramatically for both applicants and admissions offices. Amy and Mike invited ed tech entrepreneur Sam Bernstein to explore the current state of AI and the college admissions process. What are five things you will learn in this episode? How is AI changing the way students search for colleges and navigate the application process? How should students and parents be using AI in the college process—and where should they draw the line? What AI-powered tools should parents, counselors, and IECs be aware of? How can counselors use AI to manage caseloads more efficiently while maintaining a personal touch? What does a student-first future look like in an AI-driven college admissions landscape? MEET OUR GUEST Sam Bernstein is the co-founder of Loper, a free mobile app designed to help students explore and discover their best educational opportunities after high school. The inspiration for Loper came out of the pandemic, where “life on pause” led to two college friends (Sam and his co-founder Eric) spending long nights discussing their shared passion: education. Fast forward two years, and they quit their jobs to launch Loper, which has now helped nearly 200,000 students find best-fit opportunities after high school. Since founding Loper, Sam has spoken at nearly a dozen industry conferences, and he always loves the opportunity to present to both students and parents on college and career readiness. Sam lives in Chicago, loves to bike, and (so far) has kept up with his 2025 resolution to read more fiction. His favorite podcast is “Revolutions” by Mike Duncan. Sam has previously appeared on the podcast in episode 360 to discuss FINDING YOUR COLLEGE FIT. The best place to connect with Sam is on LinkedIn. Think college searches have to be boring and overwhelming? Think again! In this episode, I sit down with Sam Bernstein, co-founder of the Loper app, to talk about how gamification is shaking up the college search process. We all know that researching colleges can feel like an endless, stressful task for students and for you as counselors trying to guide them. But what if there was a way to make it engaging, intuitive, and even FUN? That's exactly what Sam and his team set out to do with Loper, and he's here to share how it's helping students take charge of their college exploration in a whole new way.Sam breaks down how Loper's game-inspired design hooks students from the start with a swipe-based interface and chat-style onboarding…no intimidating college lists or endless research required. Instead of feeling pressured to have everything figured out, students can explore schools in a way that feels natural and exciting. Whether they're hyper-focused on college, just starting to think about it, or completely unsure of their next step, Loper meets them where they are. And here's what else caught my attention—Loper isn't just about four-year colleges. Sam shares how they're expanding the app to include two-year programs, trade schools, and other postsecondary paths, giving students a bigger picture of what's possible. This episode is packed with guidance on how you, as counselors, can use technology to make the college search process more accessible and less overwhelming. After listening, download the app (it's free!) and take a look around. I know you'll enjoy the conversations it sparks with your students!Resources Mentioned: College Readiness PlaylistLoper AppLead for AmericaLeave your review for High School Counseling Conversations on Apple PodcastsConnect with Lauren:Sign up for the free, 3-day prep for High School Counseling Job Interviews https://counselorclique.com/interviewsVisit my TpT store https://counselorclique.com/shopSend me a DM on Instagram @counselorclique https://instagram.com/counselorcliqueFollow me on Facebook https://facebook.com/counselorcliqueSend me an email mailto:lauren@counselorclique.comJoin the Clique Collaborative http://cliquecollab.comFull show notes on website: https://counselorclique.com/episode157

The recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Chevron deference has significant implications for many industries. The change in an agency's authority to interpret ambiguous statutes might affect many businesses, especially those in highly regulated sectors. In this episode, members of Brownstein's legal and policy teams explore the possible consequences of this decision and discuss potential remedies for clients who believe they have been adversely affected by regulatory overreach.
In this episode, I discuss the four main pillars of CHM identity as presented by Rodney Loper. The apparent question is whether these pillars are too broad to accurately define the CHM. In today's episode because we are getting into another hot topic amongst families and the play and education industries in general and that is the concept of Microschools. Now by definition, a Micro-shcool is a small, independent learning community that typically serves a limited number of students. These schools are characterized by personalized, student-centered education that is often tailored to the needs, interests, and pace of the individual students.Sydney Loper, owner of Cultivate Studio is one of my OG Play Cafe Academy– i helped her open her doors was back in 2019- so this interview is even nearer and dearer to my heart than normal. During and after the pandemic, though, Sydney felt like she was being called to a different business model. In this conversation Sydney is going to share why she made this pivot, how she got started, what needed to change about her space in order to make this shift possible, what her day to day and family life looks like now compared to when she was an indoor playground owner, what this pivot has meant for her financially, how her school and team have grown over the last 3 years of running her programs, what skills were able to really translate from play cafe ownership to Microschool ownership, and what she loves most about operating a Microschool. She is also going to share some of the mistakes she made along the way and tons of advice for anyone feeling Microschool curious or similarly called to this model .EDITORS NOTE: I incorrectly referred to Sydney's business as Cultivate Academy in the introduction and outro of this episode- my apologies! The NLRB stands out from other administrative agencies due to its quasi-judicial nature. It doesn't just issue decisions; it also has rule-making powers. The agency's decisions are often given great deference. Will the Loper Bright decision make it easier for employers to challenge Board regulations?

Supreme Court's Loper Decision: Immediate and Long-Term Impacts on EPA Regulation In our latest podcast episode, partner Devin Barry and managing associate Aren Olson from Thompson Hine's Environmental practice group discuss the implications of the Supreme Court's decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo on pending U.S. EPA regulations. They delve into the concept of "Chevron deference," examining how the Loper decision affects this principle and its subsequent impact on some of the U.S. EPA's most contested rules under the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, such as the Greenhouse Gas Rule for utilities, the Good Neighbor Rule and WOTUS.
Many entrenched U.S. federal agency regulations have existed for decades. However, the United States Supreme Court's decision to end the Chevron doctrine exposed a governmental fault line, which may have far-reaching implications for employers.

Adam White sits down with Robert to talk about the landmark decisions of the Supreme Court's 2023-24 term. In the first of a two-part episode, they discuss two cases with vast implications for the executive branch: Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, which ended Chevron deference, and Trump v. United States, which set the limits of presidential immunity from criminal prosecution. Adam White is a senior fellow at AEI, where he focuses on American constitutionalism, the Supreme Court, and the administrative state. Read his latest work on the Loper decision and the role of Congress and agencies after the end of Chevron deference.
What was supposed to be the 2023 Farm Bill has officially become the 2024 Farm Bill, and after the events of recent weeks, looks poised to become the 2025 Farm Bill. With the dog days of summer upon us, an already unproductive Congress turns the majority of its attention to the campaign trail, leaving the outlook for farm and rural legislation looking decidedly bleak. As the national election approaches, we're joined by DTN Ag Policy Editor Chris Clayton, who brings us insights on what we're likely (and not likely) to see in terms of agricultural policy making before November, and what the candidates are promising might be in store for the term that follows. We'll dig into the current Farm Bill language that passed out of the House Ag Committee, reactions from the industry and the Secretary of Agriculture, and discuss this bill's chances in the lame duck session later this year. We'll also discuss the evolving partisanship in the House and Senate Ag Committees, and how shifting majorities in Congress could impact ag policy going forward. Finally, we'll tackle the latest Supreme Court decision on Loper vs. Raimondo, and how the end of Chevron Deference might gum up the works in ag production for years to come. Then we'll check in on new OSHA heat rules, the purchase of an Illinois grain facility by Chinese interests, and so much more.
In this episode of the Empowering Plans podcast, attorneys Brady Bizarro and Corey Crigger break down two of the most significant Supreme Court cases just decided this term – the Harrington case (rejecting the largest opioid settlement in the country) and the Loper case (in which the Supreme Court ended Chevron deference). How will these cases impact the healthcare landscape? What should self-funded plans and their partners know moving forward? Tune in to hear our expert analysis.
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down what is known as the "Chevron deference" rule. This rule help the administrative state or the "deep" state explode in both size and interference in our lives, personal and business. Many liberal scholars are scared of the Court's ruling. But this ruling will start, over time, to make the administrative state more accountable to Congress and less influential in our lives. It does not, as some radicals claim, destroy rules like the Clean Water Act rules, or Clean Air rules, but will simply make them subject to judicial review.
