Als am 16. August 1660 der angesehene Gutsverwalter William Harrison während der Ausübung seiner Pflichten verschwindet, führen die wenigen Spuren schnell zu einem Mordverdacht gegen seinen Diener, John Perry. UCLA's last national title came back in 1995, and that almost didn't happen. If it wasn't for a coast-to-coast layup from Tyus Edney in the final 4.8 seconds of a second round game against Missouri, the Bruins might still be title-less since the days of John Wooden. Tyus jumped on with 68 Shining Moments to talk about that play, how it happened and what it meant. The way to differentiate yourself in today’s economy is by investing time and resources in things that don’t scale. Deep listening + building lasting relationships will always = a fantastic customer experience. This is at the center of my conversation with this week’s return guest - Tech Founder and Millionaire Business Coach - Crysta Tyus. As a refresher, Crysta Tyus is an online marketing consultant who helps service-based businesses get clients from social media, master sales without being salesy, and build multiple 6-figure businesses. Crysta’s episode, which was released 1 year ago, is in our top 3 most listened to episodes from our almost 300 episode catalog. ‘How can I scale this and fast?’ is the question many entrepreneurs are pondering these days. Sadly, it often leads to a low-quality customer experience. What many business owners find is that when they start to scale, they water down the magic that brought them their initial success in the first place. That is because many businesses are willing to trade speed in exchange for real human touchpoints. Crysta shares with us how she has been able to build a 7 figure business and create a technology company, all without sacrificing building authentic connections with her customers. Deep listening and having actual conversations with your customers is what Crysta believes will give you an unfair advantage over your competitors. Over this past year, Crysta has also developed, designed and launched an app that is able to add even greater value to her customers. Crysta shares with us the lessons she has learned serving as the CEO of a technology company, and the insights we can all take away no matter what industry we work in. This was a very special episode. Crysta and I also have real conversations on mindset, limiting beliefs, self-doubt, believing in yourself, and the power of being a visionary. I promise you will walk away transformed after listening to this episode. Do yourself the favor. Hit play. P.S. Aliya Tyus-Barnwell is a New York City based writer, cyclist, and the founder and president of the nonprofit Ride Up Grades. She got her start doing cycling work as an Instructor at Bike New York. As a road cyclist she wanted to pass the freedom she found there on to riders in neighborhoods that lacked any bike programs; the closest Bike New York program to her Crown Heights neighborhood was too far for any youth to walk. Getting to a bike program for someone in her neighborhood required taking trains and/or buses. Further, there were no *free* public road bike programs for youth in her city - they either cost money or are limited to specific schools. Aliya strives to get more kids into bike racing, but also into commuting, and any other biking forms and disciplines. Discussed in this episode: --Brooklyn Red Caps cycling group --Black Girls do Bike --Brown Bike Girl --Major Taylor Iron Riders, Aliya's team --Bike New York --Consumerism in cycling --"There are already many Black cyclists, we just overlook them," Aliya's article in VeloNews --Cycling Industry Pledge (CIP) --Ride Up Grades Race Scholarship --Ride Up Grades Scholarship winners: Travis and Umut --Trek Summer Camp --Ostroy --I Challenge Myself --Comproller, Scott Stringer bike-to-school announcement Quote: "We've given into the consumerist mindset that a cyclist is this genre box that you get to check off when you sign up for Cycling Magazine or when you are checking into a cycling event. Really, anybody who rides a bike is a cyclist.” *This episode is sponsored by Paper Trails Greeting Co. In this week's episode, Dane talks to Josh Okogie, Gersson Rosas and Ryan Saunders about how Okogie and Jarrett Culver fit into this Timberwolves roster. And then Dane asks Tre Jones about his interview with the Timberwolves, and how his game compares to his brother Tyus. Between the interviews, Dane goes through the numbers and film from Okogie and Culver's 2019-20 season, trying to answer one big question: Can Okogie and Culver share the floor? With that... Can they share the floor with DLo? Does Okogie need to change positions? How would Tre Jones fit with Okogie and Culver?
On today's episode we got to interview NBA player and Minnesota Legend, Tyus Jones about his basketball journey on and off the court. Something that stuck out to me about Tyus, is even with all the accolades and accomplishments he received through the game of basketball the thing he is most proud of doing was becoming a father to his son baby Tyus Jr, and how it has changed him for the better. We discussed everything, how Tyus has stayed grounded and humble through it all. Why his mantra "Write you own story" still resonates with him so strongly, where he got it from, and how he turned it into giving back to the community. And why giving back is so important. From growing up in a basketball family, his relationship with Coach K, that UNC/Duke rivalry, drilling that dramatic deep three in the natty champ, how hard it was to leave Duke, draft night, how KG and Jimmy Buckets are the best teammates he has ever had. And how the Minnesota Timberwolves had all the talent to do something special when Jimmy Butler was in town and why they couldn't put it together. Tyus also discusses what really happened during that infamous practice where Jimmy Butler destroyed the starters and didn't even score a bucket. And candidly about Grayson Allen tripping opponents. A must listen! Like & Subscribe!

In this episode of SpeakVolumes, Hanna G reconnects with an old childhood friend, Dr and Pastor John Tyus. Through some shared memories, they talk about the sting of callous teacher’s quips and how alienation from our own identities leads to buried tears. A child of the Church and the ministry, Dr. John’s journey took many twists and turns, from an obsession with Michael Jackson impersonations to, trouble in suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, to the loss of his ultimate hero, before he discovered his purpose leading the ID Movement and providing support for fatherless young black boys.
Yeah, we all remember childhood and if we are lucky we have some happy memories. But, when you think about it, growing up for most of us is a cruel, hard journey that requires at least some perseverance. For today’s guest, Dr. and Pastor John Tyus, resilience was borne of a search for his identity, a process that took this D-student to seminary and to writing a PhD thesis. In this episode he poses the provocative question, what does it really mean to be a young black man? And what role does anger play in that identity?
In this final episode of SpeakVolumes with Dr. and Pastor John Tyus, we hear about addiction...yes, addiction to purpose…. and how that purpose has been tested beyond all belief in this unimaginable year of 2020. How has the ID Movement changed in the age of COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter? For Pastor Tyus, there is a change afoot that is delivering a new hopefulness. Listen to this vision for hopefulness in the renewed energy to fight injustice that today’s challenges have unleashed!
