Talk about a road trip. After winning Game 7 in Toronto to advance to the Eastern Conference Final, the Panthers raced out to an early 2-0 series lead with two dominant wins over the Hurricanes in Raleigh. Following a 5-2 win in Game 1, they enjoyed a 5-0 drubbing in Game 2. Trying to punch a third straight ticket to the Stanley Cup Final, the Panthers will now head home and try to get an even tighter stranglehold on the series in Games 3 and 4 in Sunrise. On this episode, co-hosts Doug Plagens and Jameson Olive break down how Games 1 and 2 against the Hurricanes unfolded, including hot starts, hot sticks and a little “Playoff Bob.” Plus, hear postgame sound from Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe. With Game 4 coming up on Sunday at Amerant Bank Arena, the Panthers, who trail the Maple Leafs 2-1, have a great opportunity to even the series before it shifts back to Toronto.
David Dwork joins Game Play to chat about how the Panthers matchup against the Oilers, if he's surprised that Florida returned to the Stanley Cup Final, Alexander Barkov's impact, why special teams could determine the series winner, Verhaeghe's changing role, how McDavid matches up against Barkov and Tkachuk and more.
In hour 3, Joe Rose and the Sun -Sentinel Dave Hyde: talk NFL draft as Joe is getting questioned by everyone former players, former coaches and fans about Dolphins first round pick Chop Robinson. His numbers from his senior season didn't impress many people. Miami Heat are on the brink of elimination and look so futile on offense. Can they go to Boson and get a win to bring it back to Miami for Game 6 with the Celtics may be playing without C Kristaps Porzingis who injured his calf in Game 4. Go Cats! Go! As the Florida Panthers move on in the Stanley Cup playoffs as they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-1 in Game 5 to take the series 4-1. The stars came out to play as Barkov, Verhaeghe scored 2 goals each and Matthew Tkachuk had assists on 2 of the 6 goals. Things should get more physical in the next round where they may face their other rival the Boston bruins
In hour one, recapping last night's magical Panthers victory and the greatest save we've ever seen from Sergei Bobrovsky. Sixto Sanchez will make his first start for the Marlins in over 4 seasons and Hoch and Crowder have an idea of how they'll celebrate. Crowder has zero belief in the Heat winning a game this series. Plus, Zach Gelb of the Infinity Sports Network joins the show to discuss the best food at Madison Square Garden and the only two QBs he expects to be franchise caliber in the draft.

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) welcomes in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The two break down the Panthers' 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in a game where the Panthers came out sloppy. With Paul Maurice not being satisfied with how the team came out. After, the Panthers tilted the ice putting up 31 shots in the second period, a franchise record and the most in a period by any team this season. That included three goals in 3:10 to break it open. Panthers power play didn't score but had 17 shots on 6 opportunities. The Panthers 5-on-5 scoring has been on fire lately as they now finish their home schedule with the same amount of wins as on the road with 26. Maurice took a gamble with playing Verhaeghe in one regular season game before the postseason, and it paid off with him getting his 34th of the season. Sam Reinhart got two goals on the night to finish the regular season with 57 goals. The two discuss their early impressions of the series and when they think game 1 will happen.
On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is joined by Parkland Florida Native Jackson Holzer(@JacksonH_52) and as well as the Host of Locked On Syracuse to recap the Panthers' 4-3(SO) victory over the Montreal Canadiens to clinch the season series at 3-0-0 with one game left. Anthony Stolarz was between the pipes playing in his 100th NHL game. The Panthers would have multiple leads on the night thanks to Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart getting on the scoreboard, which now has Sam Reinhart at 40 goals after breaking his seven-game goal drought. He is the 4th Panther to score 40 (Bure, Tkachuk, Verhaeghe). Although the Panthers dominated the second period, they would give up the tying goal late in the frame off a faceoff which Canadiens 2022 number one overall pick Juraj Slofkovsky scored on a redirection. With how battle tested the group is and playing in their fifth straight one-goal game, this situation isn't new for the Cats. Even with an early power play goal by Alex Newhook saw the Panthers have a lot of time to at least get a point. Despite going to the box at 12:43 of the third on a penalty by Oliver Ekman-Larsson, the Panthers knew they had to be aggressive if they were going to get out in transition on the penalty kill. Guess who? Sam Reinhart on a sharp angle shot off a give-and-go with Barkov. Reinhart is now tied for the league lead in short-handed goals with Travis Konecny(PHI) and Simon Holstrom(NYI). After an exciting OT that resulted in nobody scoring, Florida would end it in a shootout with Anton Lundell clinching it where he drew Sam Montembault out of his net on a backhand, only to bring it back to his forehand and hit the open net. Florida sweeps the homestand 3-0-0 and now has an identical home and road record at 20-8-2. The guys discuss their three stars, when they thought the game was won, and look ahead to a big road trip starting this weekend in Detroit. On today's episode of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The Panthers welcomed in the Buffalo Sabres to town in the middle of their longest wining streak of the season at three. After giving up the first goal, the Panthers would score three unanswered, including two in the first thanks to Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk(PPG). Tkachuk was back after missing Saturday's game against Washington. Florida would stifle the Sabres offense, especially in the second period where after the ice was tilted after a double minor from Jordan Greenway. Despite not scoring, the Panthers were in the Buffalo zone for a good portion of the second frame. This one got to 3-1 when Buffalo was called for a trip and bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving the Cats a 5-on-3. Brandon Montour would score on a one-timer to ice this game as he got his 10th point in the last 5 games (3,7). Florida would most importantly keep star Tage Thompson in check, but he could only be contained. Thompson would cut the Sabres deficit to one after heading to the net on a facecoff and redirecting Rasmus Dahlin's shot from the point and past Sergei Bobrovsky. Florida's defense would give their fans one of the most exciting closing sequences this season where very little space was given to put the extra attacker on. Panthers closed this out without forward Carter Verhaeghe, who was last seen on the ice with about nine minutes to go in the third. It was too little too late before the Sabres can do any cycling of the puck. The guys give their three stars, when they thought this game was won, and the different script the Panthers had to follow in this one, and an injury update on Verhaeghe. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The guys break down the Panthers' 5-1 victory over St. Louis at Enterprise Center for their first win since Mar. 9th 2020. The fourth line set the tone for the Cats as they brought the tenacity early. Although the Blues scored first, the fourth line responded after a defensive zone win, and Kevin Stenlund finishes it off after Jonah Gadjovich and William Lockwood created a scoring opportunity on the rush. The Panthers scored once again on the play in familiar fashion as Sam Reinhart got his 29th goal of the season. Although the first 20 minutes for the top 9 was underwhelming, Matthew Tkachuk showed out in the final frame. After a key penalty kill, Matthew Tkachuk scores on a one-timer on a give-and-go with Verhaeghe to give the Cats a 3-1, and they never looked back. Tkachuk would get two more goals to get his first hat trick of the season, and his third as a Panther. He is now at 11 goals, six in the month of January. The guys give their Three Stars, When They Thought The Game Was Won, And the latest Kevin Weekes tweet about possible extension. The fun came to a crashing halt for the Edmonton Oilers. After winning eight games in a row, the Oilers now find themselves on a two-game losing streak after falling 5-1 to the Florida Panthers on Saturday night. Saturday wasn't a pretty one for Edmonton. Things were looking okay for the Oilers heading towards the first intermission; they were down only 1-0 thanks to a Carter Verhaeghe. However, two quick goals to close the opening frame gave the Panthers breathing room. Zach Hyman scored to make it 3-1, but the Panthers continued to press, getting goals from Sam Bennett and Verhaeghe again. If you have thoughts from the weekend of the Oilers' action, join Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin live at noon on the Oilersnation YouTube channel. Leave your questions, comments and concerns in the Finning/CAT live chat, where they will be welcomed throughout the show. Joined by their friend Arthur Staple of The Athletic, Mike and Dan remember a rare NHL five-for-one trade that didn't really work out for either the Islanders or Maple Leafs. Just before training camp 2015, the Islanders sent winger Michael Grabner, an impending free agent coming off a couple of down years, to Toronto for five prospects: forwards Taylor Beck and Carter Verhaeghe, defenders Matt Finn and Tom Nilsson and goalie Christopher Gibson. In a very buttoned-up sport, trading one player for almost an entire starting lineup should be notable. But in this case, the results were mixed at best. Staple, who covered the Islanders at the time and is back on the beat now, tells us about Gibson's intelligence and intermittent excellence, Beck's missed potential, Grabner's short stay with the Leafs (and why he gave Staple the cold shoulder for a while), and how everyone missed on Verhaeghe before his recent breakout seasons. Time to look back on what seemed like a wild trade that just got sucked into the ether. Thanks again to Art for coming on. It's always great catching up with him and we're thankful to have him back covering the Islanders again. Subscribe to our Patreon!
