Ben Spies is celebrated as one of America's greatest motorcycle roadracing talents. The Texan's illustrious career includes multiple AMA Pro championships, a World Superbike Championship in his rookie year, the MotoGP Rookie of the Year award, six MotoGP podiums, and numerous other accolades. He will be remembered as one of the last Americans to reach MotoGP the untraditional way, embodying the “Good Ole' Days” of American motorcycle road racing. Despite his incredible achievements, Ben was often seen as introverted or standoffish, perhaps misunderstood by many. Now, a decade into retirement, the new and improved Ben 2.0 has resurfaced in the MotoAmerica paddock full-time as a team principal (or "mascot," as he humorously claims). Nowadays, he can often be found with a smile on his face, enjoying life with his wife and two daughters. In this episode, we dive into Ben's story, exploring the journey that shaped him into a fierce competitor and what he's learned about life since hanging up his leathers. We hope you enjoy and gain insights into one of the greats of our sport. After Ducati and KTM, it's now Aprilia that can claim it's put together a 2025 MotoGP superteam after securing Marco Bezzecchi alongside Jorge Martin in its all-new factory line-up.But as Simon Patterson, Valentin Khorounzhiy and Matt Beer debate on The Race MotoGP Podcast, while signing the second and third placed riders from the 2023 world championship looks great on paper, there are definite question marks around whether this is all going to work.We also examine all the repercussions elsewhere in the field, from what happens at Aprilia satellite team Trackhouse - whose riders get very different responses from Aprilia boss Massimo Rivola - to whether the exodus of strong satellite riders from Ducati marks a significant end of an era and also why on earth it seems Joan Mir might want to prolong his Honda stint. And the World Superbike Championship has entered the MotoGP rider market in earnest too. Welcome to episode 8 of the Lovecars on the Grid Podcast, where our presenters, Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman, bring us a roundup of motorsport events! This week, we have the new Formula 1 car launches for the 2023 season, plus more controversy from the FIA as always, plus NASCAR and more! We kick off as always with Formula 1, as we see a common theme across all the new team liveries. Teams have been releasing a lot more black cars to reduce weight from paint even further, so that they can add parts elsewhere on the car. Which is your favourite new livery? The new cars will be out on track in Bahrain for testing this week. With 6 new driver pairings, who will be fastest? The latest embarrassment from the FIA is a new rule that has been introduced, forbidding drivers to express their political beliefs on the track or the stadium without prior written permission from the FIA. This includes Lewis Hamilton's rainbow helmet! Who else stayed up until 1:30AM for NASCAR and the Daytona 500? With over half the race with no incidents, the second half resulted in a number of spectacular crashes! We came to the final lap following yet another accident. Ricky Stenhouse took the win in his Chevrolet, following by Joe Logano for Ford and Christopher Bell in 3rd place in his Toyota. The single seater, Formula Four UAE had their finale at Yas Marina. As did the Formula Regional Middle East. These drivers will be the future drivers in Formula 1! Next week, we have Formula 1 testing in Bahrain, Formula E heads to Cape Town in South Africa and the World Superbike Championship kicks off at Phillip Island in Australia. NASCAR is back in Fontana, California.
A close third in the 2022 MotoAmerica SportbikeGear.com Junior Cup Championship with four victories and 11 total podium finishes out of 18 races, Kayla Yaakov had quite the season. But it turns out the 15-year-old wasn't done yet. A few weeks after the lights went out on a MotoAmerica season that saw her just eight points short of winning the championship, Yaakov was on a plane and headed to Portugal where she competed in the Yamaha R3 bLU cRC European SuperFinale at Portimao. Competed actually isn't strong enough. Yaakov was a star of the show, finishing fourth in race one, second in race two and third overall against the best of the best in the 25-rider strong Yamaha-spec series race that was held in conjunction with the World Superbike Championship round in Portugal. It's been since April when we last spoke with Yaakov on Off Track With Carruthers And Bice. At the time she was 14 years old and yet to win a MotoAmerica race. There's nothing like a second chance and PJ Jacobsen is getting that in 2022 as he comes off a season without racing to jump smack dab in the deep end with a return to action in the MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike Championship. Jacobsen will ride for the new Tytlers Cycle Racing team aboard a brand-new BMW M 1000 RR . With gobs of experience earned in the World Supersport and World Superbike Championship as well as a runner-up finish in the 2019 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship, Jacobsen will be looking to draw from that experience to take full advantage of his second chance. We often get the question: What's the most popular episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice thus far? The answer: Ben Spies. So for old time's sake, we're going to repost the Ben Spies episode, which was, believe it or not, just our 77th episode - 87 weeks ago. Ben Spies won three AMA Superbike Championships in a row, went overseas and won a World Superbike Championship in his first attempt, and then, he went on to have a successful, but injury-shortened MotoGP career, winning a race in the process. Since his retirement in 2013, Spies has remained active in racing as a riding coach and just someone from whom young American riders can gather advice. We sat down with “Elbowz” for Episode #77 of Off Track with Carruthers and Bice, and it's a podcast you won't want to miss.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bspies11/Twitter: https://twitter.com/BenSpies11Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ben.spies.18Support the show (http://motoamerica.com)
Garrett Gerloff is back in Texas after a difficult season in the 2021 World Superbike Championship, a season he'd probably like to do-over. Although he finished seventh in the World Championship in his sophomore season in the series, Gerloff's year was marred by the incidents he was involved in along the way, namely the crash at Assen where he cleaned out Yamaha's Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, the championship leader at the time and the man who would ultimately go on to win the World Superbike title. We caught up with Gerloff for this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice and he spoke openly about his 2021 woes and the good memories as well while he champs at the bit to get started with a clean slate in 2022.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/garrettgerloff/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100005367167364Support the show (http://motoamerica.com)

Podcast regulars Anthony and Ben chat to the one and only Carl Fogarty – a.k.a. ‘Foggy' – about being brand ambassador for one of the most exciting projects we've ever undertaken: a limited-edition watch with motorsport at its heart. Carl talks fondly about the time when the legendary Isle of Man TT race was one of the main fixtures in his racing calendar: a circuit that still holds a special place in his heart. In 1992, Foggy set the fastest-ever lap there at an incredible average speed of 123.61mph: a record that stood for seven years and was the inspiration behind the Forzo watch we've created with him. He describes how time slowed down and he felt at one with his bike, despite the fact that it was falling apart beneath him as he rode a lap that would go down in history. Carl later went on to win the World Superbike Championship several times and remains one of the most prolific motorbike racers the world has ever seen. We ask Foggy how he first got into watches, and Ben and Carl discuss how the design for the Foggy watch came to fruition. Carl also shares his love of Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna and tells us how his first-ever bike, with a deeply personal story behind it, has now been brought back to life thanks to the National Motorbike Museum. A truly fascinating insight into the man behind the bike – and now the man behind the new Forzo watch. Been there, done that! Leon Haslam is still going strong at 37, and currently riding a factory-backed Fireblade for Team HRC in the World Superbike Championship. The former British champion has done it all though, across production racing and all MotoGP classes, he has mixed with the best time and time again over the years. He prepares to restart a year in development with Honda in SBK by chatting to the lads about golf, golf and more golf. And some bike stuff in between. Patience required with this one as there were quite a few drops due to signal in Jerez.

We mention SuperSport 300 and the ASS WHOPPING Ana Carassco laid out as she won an 11 lap race by 13.8 seconds, and made history as the first won to qualify on pole (By a second, mind you), and the first to lead a World Championship! On paper, it was straightforward with Jonathan Rea and Chaz Davies splitting wins, but in-depth, it's a lot more interesting. Rea struggling when normally so dominant in Race 2, Melandri not channelling PI. Camier nearly sniffing the podium on a much improved Honda. Fores a legit contender? Yamaha still not where they want to be either. All that, and a barmy World Supersport race with Lucas Mahias getting "Krummancher'ed" for the victory, but still missing a certain Turk! BikeLive comes to you early this week as Louis and Dre review the Cadwell Park round of the British Superbike Championship as James Ellison left himself with a mountain to climb to make the showdown, even if he conquered Cadwell's notorious jump. We look at the Showdown state of play with one round to go of the 'regular season' as well as the race for the World Superbike Championship which continues to go Jonathan Rea's way, despite a Chaz Davies double at the Lausitzring
Louis and Dre are back to review the UK round of the World Superbike Championship as Jonathan Rea conquered Tom Sykes' nine race winning streak at Donington Park! We look at the chaotic race one as Sykes made history, Rea made the headlines with a dramatic crash at the Old Hairpin and Alex Lowes made the mother of all comebacks before covering race two, and Rea's revenge as he claimed Kawasaki's 100th WorldSBK win. If all that wasn't enough, we also talk about another Kenan Sofuoglu demonstration in WorldSSP as he looks to win a sixth title (despite giving the field a two-race head start) and a victory for Alfonso Coppola which blew the WorldSSP300 title race wide open. Enjoy!
