Jim and Rich dive into the crazy, complicated and confusing Grand Prix from Le Mans. The Moto3 boys kicked off the action on damp but drying tack on Sunday morning. The race was calm by the normal Moto3 standards, but the last lap more than made up for the lack of action. Kelso was looking for his first ever Moto3 win and was leading Munoz and Rueda. In the second to last turn Munoz dive bombed Kelso which caused both to go off track. This allowed Rueda to pass both of them and take a surprise victory. The Moto2 riders were forced to watch the back of Gonzalez for the whole race as he dominated. MotoGP was where all the action and surprises were. Quartararo shocked with pole position or Marc Marquez.. In the Sprint Marc used a smooth and patient approach to take the win over his brother and rookie sensation Aldeguer. On Sunday the weather played havoc with everyone as new rules caused chaos. Picking the right tire was critical as some riders went from slicks to wets to slicks and back to wets. However the man who made all the right calls was Zarco. He became the first Frenchmen to win the French Grand Prix in 71 years.

Presentatie: Robert Denneman

Apologies! Something went horribly wrong last night with the recording, and it took as a long time to fix it. Mat's in Austin, Peter's in Portimão and we completely forgot to sacrifice a chicken to the wifi-gods...the end result was a slight catastrophe where we ended up recording at least one of your host over the phone. Just imagine Peter sitting in the corner of a dark hotel room with a telephone in one fist and an old fashioned recorder in the other, and now you're getting it. So, what did they call about? Oh, it's a lot! There's the race, of course, and a risky wheelie - but we're also getting reports of some very, very interesting riders in Moto2, and some sources are claiming that BMW is more than serious about being on the grid sooner rather than later. If you're still reading this, you have my thanks - but you should probably hit play now! Enjoy, and cheers!Want more? Visit our website or support us on Patreon. Hey there, riders and road lovers, welcome back to the Motos and Friends Podcast, brought to you by the editors at Ultimate Motorcycling. The Motos and Friends Podcast is brought to you by Arai helmets. The founder of Arai Helmets was the man who created the first motorcycle helmet in Japan to protect his own head, and as a result, launched the Japanese motorcycle helmet industry. Arai focuses on glancing off performance, accumulating small differences decade after decade, to further rider protection. You should also check out AraiAmericas.com to learn more. This episode we're revving up with something seriously cool—the 2025 Indian Chieftain PowerPlus Limited 112. This classic bagger's got a championship heart, rocking the same motor that's snagged back-to-back MotoAmerica King of the Baggers wins. You've seen the 108 in the Pursuit and Challenger, but now the Chieftain's stepping up with a slick liquid-cooled V-twin, some chassis upgrades, as well as a bunch of fancy electronic rider aids. Don Williams hit the Nevada desert to put this 21st-century beast to the test. Our second segment this week is a real treat, because Arthur Coldwells sits down with the legend himself—three-time world Grand Prix Champion Freddie Spencer. 2025 is the 40-year anniversary of his double Championship win, and he asked Freddie about that unreal season where he pulled off something that will never be repeated: winning both the 250cc and 500cc class Championships at the same time. That's the equivalent of winning both the Moto2 and MotoGP Championships in the same year. Most people likely assume that riding both machines at the limit is similar… Wrong. Actually it takes total single-minded discipline and a completely different riding style for each one. Freddie gives us the nuances of exactly what he had to do, and how he accomplished it. So, grab a drink, settle in, and let's hear from Freddie about how he literally made history at the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, where he beat the very best in the world—twice in the same year. Here's a quick reminder to leave us your comments on our social media—we're on all the usual platforms at Ultimate Motorcycling. We love hearing your feedback… so good or bad, please let us know what you think. If there's something you'd like us to cover, we'd love to hear those ideas too! @ultimatemotorcycling @UltimateMotoMag @UltimateMotorcycling producer@ultimatemotorcycling.com
Jim and Rich start of this episode with some listener feed back. Seems The guys missed the fact that American Rossi Moor has signed to ride in the Junior GP Moto2 class this year (link below). Next Jim and Rich tackle the news starting off with Pirelli becoming the sole tire supplier for the entire MotoGP paddock in 2027. They discuss the Ogura disqualification and chat about the X rant that people are becoming bored with the sprint races. Lastly they cover all the action from Argentina. Piqueras opened his winning bank account with a somewhat controversial win in Moto3. What does the rule really say about touching the green paint on the last lap? Inquiring minds want to know. British pride was on full display in Moto2 as Jake Dixon took a commanding win and moved into second in the championship chase. Lastly MotoGp and what can you say about Marc's incredible start to the season. The result may have been the same as last race when Marc battled his brother for the win, but how we got there this time is completely different. The guys also wonder when Marc will actually loose a race. Diggia su Zarco, Honda in ripresa, KTM si difende, Yamaha no. Aprilia sfortunata e Ogura squalificato. First they start with the news that Jorge Martin will miss the opening Thai round and then proceed to run down their champions list for the MotoGp class. After a short pause for breath, Jim and Rich reconvene to chat through the final MotoGP round of the 2024 season held in Barcelona and titled the Solidarity GP following the widespread damage and loss of life in Valencia. The weekend would see Jorge Martin crowned 2024 MGP champion in a less than thrilling Sprint and main GP, albeit supported by the usual shenanigans in Moto2 and Moto3. Elsewhere in the show, Jim and Rich discuss an interesting email from subscriber Jacob Rower and have a quick talk through the post-race MGP test. The 2024 MotoGP title fight packed so many more twists into the Thai Grand Prix weekend even though it ended with Pecco Bagnaia only three points closer to Jorge Martin than he had been before Buriram. But the crashes, near-crashes, Marc Marquez interventions, lunges, attempts to stoke Bagnaia/Martin animosity, track limits mysteries and non-penalties all add up to plenty for Simon Patterson, Val Khorounzhiy and Matt Beer to debate on The Race MotoGP Podcast and plenty of questions that The Race Members' Club want answered. Jim and Rich talk about the three great races from “The Island”. In the Moto3 class newly crowned world champion Alonso showed why he is the champ by out smarting everyone by using the hard rear tire option. He forced the competition to use up their soft tires trying to keep up with him. Alonso is on another level right now and he is playing chess while the others are playing checkers. In the Moto2 class it was a great race between Canet and Aldegeur. It was good hard racing with Aldeguer taking the victory. Senna Agius the hometown hero rode through the pack to be in court place and was chasing Lopez for the last spot on the podium. Lopez crashed out thus ensuring Agius's first podium finish! In MotoGP the usual suspects were in the fight for the sprint win, which went to Martin. Marquez who had a poor start road to a second place finish and Bastianini was the last man on the podium. The major story was the crash of Bezzecchi and Vinales on the entry to turn one. Both riders were ok after the crash which was specular but scary to watch at the same time. In the Sunday race Marquez looked like a drag bike with major tire smoke on the start. Believe it or not Marquez caused the problem by letting his tear off fall under the rear wheel of his own bike! Marquez was the fastest rider breaking the race lap record, while chasing down Martin for the victory. Martin now has a 20 point lead as the series moves to Thailand. Jim and Rich discuss all the action from Motegi. The first World Championship had been handed out to David Alonso! The Moto3 champ won this title in style by winning in true Alonso style. He was as far back as ninth in this race but road through the pack late in the race to win by half a second. The Moto2 race provided all the drama this weekend as a rain shower just after the start caused a red flag. It was anybodies guess on wether to use rains or slicks, but championship leader Ogura with he courage of his convictions went on slicks. He quickly fell back to 14th but the as he put heat into his slicks they came good and he powered through the field to lead. In fact six riders started on slicks and all would finish in the top six! Ogura riding smart let Gonzales take the win. Ogura now leads Garcia by sixty points. MotGp was a mixed bag as Marc was denied pole because of track limits and this promoted Acosta to his first pole position in the top class. All eyes were on Acosta in both the sprint and the Sunday race as he was heavily favored to win both. Lady Luck is a cruel mistress and she took both wins away in the form of two front end low-sides. Bagnaia benefited the most as he won both races with championship rival Martin finishing fourth in the sprint and second in the Sunday race. Bagnaia took fourteen points out of Martin's lead and now sits just ten points behind. The guys (well Jim mostly) got all geeked out on are contrails fuel consumption and flywheels. Its heavy engineering geek speak that had Richard's eyes glazing over! Back to back rounds create a unique challenge. Co-ordinating recording is always a difficult task as we travel from one country to the next but for our review of the Cremona WorldSBK Round we decided to wait until we were assembled in Motorland Aragon. An added benefit of this is that we can recap the Italian action and grab five minutes with the riders as they go about their Thursday media duties. Danilo Petrucci was the star of the show at Round 9 and the Barni Ducati rider joins us to talk about winning, how his style of riding evolved from childhood and what it meant to win again after his training crash in April. He wasn't the only Ducati rider to appear as we grabbed Alvaro Bautista to talk about his Superpole struggles and whether he can still be a title contender. Adrian Huertas also stopped by to give us his thoughts on moving to Moto2 in 2025. The return of Toprak Razgatlioglu is the biggest story in Aragon and we couldn't record without getting ten minutes with the Superbike Superstar. After initially being rebuffed by BMW Toprak sat down with Steve and Gordo for ten minutes to talk about his injury, the frustrations of watching from home and his excitement of getting back to work!
Jim and Rich review the first of the triple headers. First Jim talks about his busman holiday to the IMSA race in Indianapolis, then the guys go through all the news. After the new the guys break down the racing from San Marino! With heavy rain just before the weekend the track had all of the rubber washed off and this seemed to have massive effect on all the classes. In Moto3 it was normal shrive resumed as Alonso won a cracker of a race. The last few laps were quite a spectacle as Alonso, Piqueras, Vier and Holgado constantly changed positions. In Moto2 the guys discuss the surprise send place in Q2 by Joe Roberts. The real surprise was the race itself as Ogura made one of the most impressive starts this season, by powering around the outside of several riders to be third on the start. The race settled into a fight between Vietti, Canet and Arbolino. Arbolino looked like a sure bet to win his first race of the season but a gearbox problem caused him to run wide handing the lead to Canet. Can't was them pipped at the finish line by Vietti, by .029 seconds! This was the best Moto2 race of the season! MotoGp help up its end of the bargain by having a great late race battle between Martin and Bastianini. Where was Pecco? Well he struggled with his rear tire and fell off about halfway. Bastianini would win after aggressively move Martin out of the way. This championship is definitely going down to the last race of the season.
