The malaise from Motegi was carried away by the Phillip Island breeze for what was another enthralling chapter of 2024 MotoGP. A little bit more tension with just three rounds to go this season. Jim and Rich discuss all the action from Motegi. The first World Championship had been handed out to David Alonso! The Moto3 champ won this title in style by winning in true Alonso style. He was as far back as ninth in this race but road through the pack late in the race to win by half a second. The Moto2 race provided all the drama this weekend as a rain shower just after the start caused a red flag. It was anybodies guess on wether to use rains or slicks, but championship leader Ogura with he courage of his convictions went on slicks. He quickly fell back to 14th but the as he put heat into his slicks they came good and he powered through the field to lead. In fact six riders started on slicks and all would finish in the top six! Ogura riding smart let Gonzales take the win. Ogura now leads Garcia by sixty points. MotGp was a mixed bag as Marc was denied pole because of track limits and this promoted Acosta to his first pole position in the top class. All eyes were on Acosta in both the sprint and the Sunday race as he was heavily favored to win both. Lady Luck is a cruel mistress and she took both wins away in the form of two front end low-sides. Bagnaia benefited the most as he won both races with championship rival Martin finishing fourth in the sprint and second in the Sunday race. Bagnaia took fourteen points out of Martin's lead and now sits just ten points behind. The guys (well Jim mostly) got all geeked out on are contrails fuel consumption and flywheels. Its heavy engineering geek speak that had Richard's eyes glazing over! Mancano quattro prove e tutto serve: qualifica (dove Martin è caduto), partenza (questa volta entrambi a fionda), Sprint e gara (Bagnaia impeccabile). Rivoluzione in Honda arriva Albesiano. In this special interview episode, Rich gets to speak with Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team superstar Fabio Di Giannantonio ahead of the Motegi round in Japan. They get to talk a little history, bike development, tyres, that first MGP win in Qatar last year and even how MotoGP downtime works in what is an unbelievably long and pressurised season. Fabio is such a calm and humble guy and a true pleasure to have spoken with. Enormous thanks to Fabio, as well as to Laura and Pol from the VR46 team for making this interview happen.

A lot can happen in 40 minutes, but if that was the case today then it surely happened somewhere else than Twin Ring Motegi. We can't blame Bagnaia, of course: the man is here to win. Perfection is not entertaining, but pretty impressive. So yes, it was a boring race. But that doesn't mean nothing happened - it just all happened within the little details. For example, Marquez is getting familiar with a new flywheel after last month's disaster in Indonesia, the presence (or lack of!) certain duels point at interesting developments, engineers are making unexpected alliances and Honda is about to ask itself a Ten Million Dollar Question.
Jim and Rich are back to keep track of the MotoGP championship as the current triple header hits its mid-point at the Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia. The guys run through listener feedback and news before jumping in to talk through the 4 races. It was a hot and sticky round with crashes, blow ups and a continuation of the Bagnaia-Martin to and fro at the head of the championship. With Indonesia done, the MGP circus heads this weekend to Motegi in Japan. The guys also touch on the WSBK races from Aragon as Toprak returned and eked out a small championship lead again. Noteworthy was the return to the winners enclosure for Andre Iannone who became the 14th rider to secure wins in both MotoGP and WSBK. Officially, it's called the Twin Ring Motegi. So this weekend we're getting two tracks for the price of one! Well, would if we'd needed more than one. And if the other one wasn't made for car's, so let's not speak about it too much. But if you must know, we'll let Cartman explain it to you...Okay, so now about the track we're actually racing on this weekend! Actually, let's just let Peter explain it, because he does a bang-up job of it. Take it away, Peter! (Oh, and as always: don't forget to pull up our map of the circuit!)Want more? On this week's episode of the Crash MotoGP Podcast, the team discuss an eventful Indonesian Grand Prix as Jorge Martin won his first Grand Prix since Le Mans in May. But it could've been better as he crashed out of the sprint race, handing victory to rival Pecco Bagnaia. The gap at the top is 21 points, but it now seems like a two horse race for the title as DNFs for Enea Bastianini & Marc Marquez have all but ended their title chances.A strong performance from Pedro Acosta in 2nd for Grand Prix, was overshadowed by the wait for a decision on Tyre Pressure Infringements from the stewards. Out Francesco Guidotti, bienvenue Aki Ajo !
Come andrà?

More Martin magic, the washing-out effect of the Motegi monsoon, what we learned in Japan, our ‘winners' and ‘losers' from round fourteen of MotoGP and our take on the near-conclusion of the 2024 silly season. Grab the latest show here!
Any lingering doubts about the 2023 MotoGP world championship fight were erased over an ultra-tense Japanese Grand Prix weekend that ended with Pecco Bagnaia's lead over Jorge Martin down to just three points. And this wasn't because of some calamity for Bagnaia, but a pair of straight-fight defeats in close competition across wildly varying weather conditions. So as Simon Patterson, Valentin Khorounzhiy and Matt Beer debate on The Race MotoGP Podcast, we really do have a proper head to head title fight coming up over the remaining six rounds. As well as how both protagonists rode at Motegi, our panel discuss whether it's really sustainable for Martin's team Pramac to keep this up given its satellite status and what Ducati might do with its 2024 rider line-up if Martin actually beats Bagnaia to the title.Speaking of 2024 Ducati riders, the latest developments and rumours over Marc Marquez's future get plenty of airtime. There's also analysis of what could've been a very significant weekend for KTM's prospect, while also producing yet more discord over it's five-into-four 2024 rider dilemma.Follow The Race on Instagram, Twitter and FacebookCheck out our latest videos on YouTubeDownload our app on iOS or Android Hosted on Acast.
The best of the best are getting wet and wild at Japan as MotoGP goes to Motegi. This week, Peter is deeply impressed (and scared!) when Jorge Martín takes it to the absolute limit and Mat wants to cry for Johann Zarco. Also: all the reasons why Ducati's go fast when the track gets drenched and why you really don't want a steamy helmet... With big thanks as always to Brad Baloo from The Next Men and Gentleman's Dub Club, who wrote our theme song. Check out The Nextmen for more great music!

Steve, Neil, and David are on the mics for this week's MotoGP show, as they look at the Japanese GP at Motegi. With an interesting result for the top names vying for the championship, the Japanese round leaves us with no shortage of topics to consider as we kick-off the fly-away rounds in MotoGP. Many thanks to FLY Racing and Renthal Street for sponsoring this episode, and helping the podcast produce content each week. Tug is phoning it in this week (in every imaginable way) but it hasn't effected the quality of analysis at all, as you can probably tell from the title. None of that matters this week, though, because Jack Miller is a winner again and when that happens, 'the world seems a happier place', as Boris notes. That's just one inane observation among many as the boys break down happenings at Motegi, George's letter, Rossi's thoughts for the week and Borrie's poem plus some special announcements and heaps more on the Greatest Motorcycling Podcast In The World. Get it in your ears now. The Following is a Public Service Announcement: None of this – and we mean none of this, including the yelling, the crying, the cussing, the finger-pointing, the nappy-soiling, the bitch-slapping, and gold medal prosciutto-making – would be possible without the support of our brilliant sponsors. We demand and insist you support them because they support us. Don't make us come to your house with pipes and knives and force you to test-ride their bikes and buy their products. We will. We have no morals and jail only scares one of us, but Freido will be deported before he spends any time in Long Bay. Click on the bloody links. Please. Savic Motorcycles (https://www.savicmotorcycles.com/) – We couldn't be prouder than to have the support of Australia's own high-performance electric motorcycle manufacturer which is set to revolutionise e-motorcycles worldwide, while saving polar bears, low-lying countries, and every tree on earth from climate catastrophe. Won't do much for deserts, but. They're probably gonna stay deserts. If you can't get one of the gorgeous bikes, the least you could do is buy some of the gear – it would be un-Australian of you not to. Honda Australia (https://motorcycles.honda.com.au/en) – From the very first superbike, the incredible Honda 750-4, Honda has been synonymous with speed. Racing is in its DNA, and HRC is the team everyone wants to be in. Producing some of the best-engineered bikes on earth, and boasting the services of multiple-world champion, Marc Marquez (now no longer blind, apparently), these are certainly the handlebars you wanna try hanging onto. Made in Germany (https://www.mig.bike/) – For the very finest in riding gear, and the official Australian distributor of Held Biker Fashion – since 1946, Daytona boots, IXS and Pinlock. SC-Project Oceania (https://sc-project.com.au/) – There are no better motorcycle exhausts on this earth. None. The sexiest aural sex-cannons, from the world's largest and finest bike-exhaust manufacturer, can and must be yours. Do it. It is the song of our people. And you must play that song every time you ride. It's in the rules. Suzuki Australia (https://www.suzukimotorcycles.com.au/) – Creators of truly legendary motorcycle, who also do a great job keeping Mir and Rins off the streets and on the MotoGP racetrack where they belong. If you don't test-ride Suzuki motorcycles at least once a week, you'll never get a pretty girlfriend. Triumph Australia (https://www.triumphmotorcycles.com.au/) – The Empire awaits your pleasure. Booking a test-ride on any of the glorious English missiles is easier than getting stabbed by a Chelsea soccer hooligan, and until you've ridden a Rocket 3, you have not actually ridden anything. Aprilia Australia (https://www.aprilia.com/au_EN/) – these magnificent bastards build bikes so good, their MotoGP efforts are better than the sweating bastards, The Munted Asparagus and Rev Bomb Vinales, will ever be. Go ride one of its masterpieces. Do it this weekend. Moto Guzzi Australia (https://www.motoguzzi.com/au_EN/) – As Italian as espresso, and as rewarding and fun to ride as that stolen horse you knocked off so you can pay the Sicilian bloke with the pretty daughter not to kill you. Every person has to own a Moto Guzzi once in their life. Harley-Davidson Australia (https://www.harley-davidson.com/au/en/index.html) – The world's oldest, toughest, and most iconic marque has re-vamped, re-charged, and re-energised itself with a new engine and new models, which you just have to ride to believe. The legendary bikes are still there (No, Slim, they stopped making Knuckles a while back), but Harley is carving a whole new chapter in its storied history with the Pan America and the Sportster S. Ride and believe.

Lo chiediamo all'ex pilota Loris Reggiani.
