The opening round of the 2025 WorldSBK season is in the books and Nicolo Bulega dominated the opening weekend. It was a textbook weekend for the Aruba.it Ducati rider but as Steve and Gordo explain it also meant the stories of the weekend were elsewhere. Most of the stories focused on Toprak Razgatlioglu and his BMW. On Sunday evening the reigning champion dropped a bombshell that he would consider quiting the series if changes weren't made. Was it postering? As Gordo explains the weekend wasn't quite as bad as a 20 point haul would indicate. Yamaha confirmed that Augusto Fernandez would replace Jonathan Rea for the next round but how was their race weekend? Bimota are back in WorldSBK and left Australia pleased with their opening gambit. In WorldSSP we assess the race winning debut of Yamaha's new R9 machine and also discuss Tom Booth-Amos' first career win in the Supersport class. WorldSBK is back on track and we're here to cover everything that happens in 2025!

Paddock Pass Podcast - Motorcycle Racing - MotoGP - World Superbike

Is Toprak's WorldSBK title the most unexpected in the history of the series? Steve and Gordo look back at the final round of the 2024 campaign and Toprak Razgalioglu's confirmation as the Superbike World Champion for the second time. The Turkish rider is now unquestionably the best rider on the grid but what makes him special? We grabbed Phil Marron and Kenan Sofuglu to talk about when they believed they could win the title and the mentality of Toprak. Kenan's insight is very interesting as he talks about positivity rather than aggression being the key to winning in motorcycle racing. Steve also reminds Gordo of what we expected from Toprak back in January when they went to the the Spanish venue for pre-season testing.   With Nicolo Bulega winning two races and Alvaro Bautista suffering another crash the future of Ducati is also a talking point. Who's the team leader for the red bikes in 2025? Alex Lowes' successful campaign is discussed as is the toughest season of Jonathan Rea's career. The show wraps up with title talk in WorldSSP, WorldSSP300 and the WorldWCR series

The French Round of WorldSBK saw Toprak Razgatlioglu, Alvaro Bautista and Jonathan Rea all ruled out through injury. What lessons can be learned from Toprak's crash and what can we expect from upcoming rounds of WorldSBK. On track there was a popular winner with Michael van der Mark putting his pains of multiple injuries behind him to win again before Nicolo Bulega enjoyed a perfect Sunday. Is the Italian actually a title threat for Toprak now? Steve, Gordo and Ivo debate the merits of a title battle while also looking at the improved fortunes of Honda and the rider market moves being made in the Superbike Paddock. Our mission is to help runners take their next step along their ultra running journey. With this series of Race Spotlight episodes, we want to introduce you to races that you may or may not have heard of by speaking directly to the Race Directors to give you all the information you need. On this episode, we want to welcome you to the world of Javelina. I don't know if this is actually a race or not. Over the past several years this race has just continued to explode in popularity. Everything about it just feels like the Woodstock of Ultra running where the entire community comes together to just have a great time out in the Arizona desert. But there is a race that takes place in the middle of this party, and it has had some blazing fast times with Jonathan Rea setting the course record in 12 hours 43 minutes in 2023 and Camille Herron setting it for the women in 2021 with a blistering time of 14 hours and 3 minutes. The 100 mile race, known as the Javelina Jundred, covers 5 loops that wind through Sonoran desert. Elevation gain is minimal at about 1580 feet for each loop, while running on a surface of packed granite, rocks and sand. After listening to this episode, we can guarantee that the Javelina Jundred will show up on your list of must do races in the future. We invite you to take a few minutes to listen to the race director of the Javelina Jundred, Jubilee Paige. Enjoy the show? Please leave us rating and comment to share the love! Welcome to Episode 17 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back with another roundup of motorsport events from the past week! We had quite a few events this weekend, from WEC in Croatia, BTCC in Donington Park, Formula E in Berlin. We've had a reshuffle in the Mercedes F1 garage, plus Silverstone are changing turn 1 after last year's crash with Zhou Guanyu. World Rally Championship of course had a cloud after the passing of Craig Breen in Croatia. Winners Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin paid tribute to the former driver. There was controversy as a co driver had hit seatbelt stuck under his HANS device. The British Touring cars were racing at a very wet Donington Park! After several clashes, and with some comparisons to Formula 1 driver, Max Verstappen, Ash Sutton took the win, followed by Daniel Rowbottom in 2nd place and Dan Cammish in 3rd place. Berlin saw the Formula E racing this weekend. We had climate activists at the race on Sunday, which was rather ironic, but the win went to Nick Cassidy of Envision Racing, whilst second place went to Jake Dennis and 3rd to Jean-Eric Vergne. The World Fanatec GT Challenge took place at Monaco, with a fantastic grid made up of lots of different cars. World Superbikes were in Holland, with Alvaro Bautista winning all three races, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea all continuing to dominate the season, but why is this? SuperFormula Japan was at Suzuka and NASCAR was at Talledega! Kyle Busch took the win, with Ryan Blaney pushing Bubba Wallace out of the way for 2nd place. We have a very hectic weekend ahead of us, with the first sprint race in Formula 1 2023 happening in Azerbaijan. Indycar are back racing at Birmingham road course. WEC are racing at Spa Francorchamps. MotoGP is also back in Spain, whilst the British Superbikes at Oulton Park and Aussie Supercars, and even the first weekend of the Formula 1 Academy at the Red Bull Ring! What will you be watching? Let us know in the comments!

Welcome to this week's episode of the Lovecars On The Grid Podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are here to bring us another roundup of motorsport events from the past week. We've had an exciting weekend, with Formula 1, World Endurance Championships, WRC and British Superbikes! But first, we pay our respects to Simon Arron, a motorsport journalist who sadly passed away last week. Formula 1 was in Sao Paolo, Brazil this week, with a fantastic story for Mercedes driver and Winner, George Russell who took his first Grand Prix Win this weekend. The weekend was full of firsts as Haas driver, Kevin Magnussen took pole position in qualifying. We had many controversies during the race too. Starting with the incident between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen during the race restart. Who was at fault? We had controversy between Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso. The Alpine team told Ocon to allow Alonso to overtake as Alonso was on fresher tyres. Ocon refused to do so as he was trying to overtake Sebastian Vettel in the Aston Martin. Let's not forget the Red Bull team incident, where Verstappen wouldn't allow Perez past despite another team order! We have the final race of 2022 coming up in Abu Dhabi. It's already clear who the Winner of the driver's championship is, but who will come 2nd? Tiff finally spills the beans where he was filming last week, as he was filming an item with BBC's Top Gear, with Chris Harris, Paddy McGuinness and Freddy Flintoff! The final round of the World Endurance Championship took place in Bahrain this weekend. The Championship concluded with a final Toyota 1-2 win, with Alpine behind them in 3rd, just 2 laps behind the leaders. We had a dramatic rally in Japan for WRC, with a win for Hyundai on the tarmac with Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe. Indonesia saw the penultimate round of the World Superbikes. Alvaro Bautista took three wins and the overall Championship win with a round to spare, with Turkish rider, Toprak Razgatlioglu taking 2nd and British rider, Jonathan Rea in 3rd place. In this episode, Steve English, Gordon Ritchie, and Charlie Hiscott sit down to discuss the WorldSBK round at Magny-Cours, where we saw a tumultuous weekend with harsh words levied between the Ducati and Kawasaki sides of the paddock. As such, the guys talk about the incident involving Jonathan Rea and Alvaro Bautista, and what effect it could have going forward in the WorldSBK Championship. Has Rea lost his hand on another championship title? Will Bautista dominate the remaining rounds? And what is to become of Ruben Rinaldi? Michael van der Mark also joins us on the show, as part of our Renthal Street Sessions segments, and talks about returning to racing after being side-lined with injury for such an extensive period. Welcome to episode 36 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast. Our presenters, Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us another roundup of motorsport events from around the World from the past week! What an exciting week we've had, from Formula 1, F2, F3, Porsche Supercup, WEC in Japan, WRC in Greece, Indycar in California, NASCAR, World Superbikes, British Superbikes and British GT. Starting with Formula 1, Max Verstappen is on another level, with yet another win in Monza at the weekend winning from 7th place, despite Charles LeClerc starting in pole position. We had the cinderella story of Nick De Vries in Williams. The driver was substituted for Alex Albon after the driver was suffering with appendicitis. De Vries qualified 13th, but thanks to other driver penalties, started in 9th. He managed to finish in the same position, achieving points in his very first race! We have to talk about the safety car controversy. Keeping the safety car out and allowing Max Verstappen to take the win. It's like Abu Dhabi with Michael Masi all over again! Should the FIA have red flagged the race and allow a restart for the last three laps? Did they make the decision? Let us know what you think! We had a strange weekend in Formula 2, with a Championship win for Felipe Drugovich, even with 3 races to go! The Sprint Race was won by Juri Vips. Formula 3 ended up in a crash that causes a red flag. Victor Martins took the championship win from the pit wall. The Sprint Race win went to Franco Colapinto, whilst the feature race win went to Zane Maloney. In the Porsche Supercup, Harry King took pole position, but following a 3 place grid penalty after a shunt in the previous race, King took 2nd place, behind Bastian Buus. The Championship win was given to Dylan Pereira. The World Endurance Championship was taking place at Fuji, with 1st and 2nd place for Toyota and Alpine in 3rd. In the World Rally Championship, Hyundai had a 1, 2, 3 finish, following an awful start to the season. We had a spectacular Indycar race at Laguna Seca. Josef Newgarden made some great overtakes, but it was team mate, Will Power that took the Championship win the in Indycar series. The NASCAR series took place at the Hollywood Casino 400, with a win for Bubba Wallace. There's just 1 more race where drivers can qualify for the final 12 drivers, so exciting in NASCAR! In World Superbikes, the battle between Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu continues! Both riders fell off in the first 2 races. Next week, we have Moto GP and NASCAR!

Great to see someone like Francesco Bagnaia come back from such off-season adversity eh? It was the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, but first, we talk the Suzuka 8 Hours this past weekend as Honda lay an absolute beating on the field, winning by more than a lap on the Kawasaki dream team of Jonathan Rea, Leon Haslam and Alex Lowes. We also send our best wishes to Gino Rea, recovering in hospital from a horrible accident in practise. Go well Gino. But yes, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, and it was Francesco Bagnaia that came through an early fight from Alex Rins and a late charge from Maverick Vinales to take another narrow victory, and a great reminder of how good MotoGP can be. We discuss that and some of the narratives associated with the series at present, like World Superbikes recent comparisons. We also talk about the races unfortunately small attendance. Only 41,000 showed up for this one and barely 100k for the weekend. Not for the first time this season, we try and get to the bottom of why. It can't be the UK's cost of living crisis, we had a 142,000 sell out of the F1 race in June. Has the TV coverage not grown the sport? Is Silverstone undesirable for bikes? Is the timeslot wrong given its the British Summer Holidays? We try and break it down in the second half! All that and more on Motorsport101!

Welcome to episode 29 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back with another roundup of motorsport from the past week! We've got new rules and regulations in Formula 1, along with a massive controversy over a baseball cap in WRC, and another controversy in Indycar over a balaclava! We had NASCAR, World Superbikes at Donington park and Formula E in New York! We kick off as always with Formula 1, and while there was no Grand Prix this week, there has been plenty of gossip and changes in F1 this week! There are claims that scrutineers aren't checking the cars properly, with skid blocks being pushed into the floor on some cars, making them illegal. We have the Paul Ricard circuit coming up for the next race, will Mercedes do better than 3rd this week? In the World Rally Championship, we had a controversy over a sponsors hat! Rules dictate that drivers can't attend press conferences or podiums without wearing their sponsors logo on their hat. Unfortunately, driver Tanak received a fine for being on the podium without his sponsor's hat in Rally Estonia! The rally was won by Kalle Rovanpera after a change in the weather, taking the lead from Elfyn Evans. In the WRC 3 Junior, 27 year old, John Armstrong from Ireland is holding onto his lead! Continuing with clothing drama, we move over to Indycar in Toronto. The win went to Scott Dixon, who was being chased by rival Colton Herta. Herta started from pole position and was overtaken thanks to pit strategies, however the driver admitted following the race that his balaclava burst during this leadership attack, resulting in him having his hair in his face and losing him the lead! We had some real aggression and drama in NASCAR this weekend. We had our 5th different winner of the season in Christopher Bell at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The highlight from NASCAR was Austin Dillon, who decided to crash into another driver under the safety car. Over in New York, in the docklands we had racing for the Formula E cars. Under the poor weather, we had drivers aquaplaning and causing crashes. The race was red flagged with a few laps to go, resulting in the drivers who crashed into the barriers received the podium places! How can you win a race that you crash out of?! The Superbikes were at Donington Park in the UK. Toprak Razgatlioglu brought home all three wins, with Jonathan Rea getting 2x 2nd places and a 3rd place. Next weekend, we have Formula 1 and F2 at Paul Ricard. Indycar is at Iowa, NASCAR is at Pocono Raceway in a Pennsylvania, British Superbikes are at Brands Hatch. The British GT is off to Spa Francorchamps in Belgium! Thanks for listening!

Welcome to episode 21 of the Lovecars On The Grid podcast! We have an action packed week to roundup with our hosts, Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman, from Formula 1, Formula E, NASCAR, Superbikes and even drama in the Caterham Academy Championship! Kicking off with Formula 1, why we have the spy scandal between Red Bull and Aston Martin! With employees leaving Red Bull for Aston Martin, is information being taken too? Lewis Hamilton had a poor start in Barcelona, with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen involved in a collision with the Mercedes driver. Followed by Carlos Sainz coming off the track into the gravel trap in his Ferrari. What followed was an exciting race, with intense battles between Segio Perez and George Russell. Max Verstappen also had a brief spin off the track, leaving Charles LeClerc to lead the race in his Ferrari. LeClerc had a problem later in the race with his engine blowing up, and ended up retiring. The new Mercedes body modifications seemed to work though, with Russell finishing the race in 3rd, with Verstappen and Perez ahead of him. In Formula 2, Felipe Drugovich took the win for MP Motorsport in both the Sprint race and the Feature race. He now leads the championship. In the supporting W Series race, we had a 1,2,3 British podium, with a win for Jamie Chadwick, Abbi Pulling and Alice Powell. Both Sebs had a crash in WRC out in Portugal. The gravel rally was won by Toyota GR's Kalle Rovanperä from Finland, with Elfyn Evans hot on his heels. The WRC goes off to Italy next! There was no Moto GP this week, but the World Superbikes were at Estoril. The battle between Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu continues as Rea takes 2 wins, with Toprak hot on his heels. The British Superbikes were at Donington Park, with some awful crashes. We had bikes splitting into multiple pieces, and a rider even in hospital. Thankfully Josh Day is awake and eating again, we wish him a speedy recovery. NASCAR was a pretty spectacular event, with $1 million for the Winner in Texas. There were more crashes and slow punctures for the drivers. The win went to Ryan Blaney in his Ford, with Denny Hamlin behind him in 2nd place. Tiff stayed up until midnight to watch the Indycar drivers at Indianapolis. We had crashes at 230MPH, with an average speed of 234.046MPH! Unbelievable! The win went to Scott Dixon, and Alex Palou in 2nd. Our resident driver, Paul Woodman was driving his Caterham Roadsport car at Snetterton with the Caterham Academy Championship this weekend. We had races being won by 0.05 of a second, and over 30 drivers on the grid! In the first race, Paul managed a 7th place, following an 11th place qualifying. Geoff Newman, Charlie Lower and Freddie Chiddicks all manage their usual performances with great driving. In the second race however, there was carnage at the start! Following an amazing start, Paul was squeezed by the two cars in front of him. He tried to go around the outside, but unfortunately was taken out by another car, leading to a red flag. Straight after the restart, we had a driver roll his car, forcing another red flag! Thankfully, the driver is ok. We don't know where to start this weekend, but we have a major Formula 1 race in Monaco. Now that Mercedes have got rid of their porpoising, will they do better in qualifying? We also have the Indianapolis 500, plus Moto GP at Mugello, BTCC at Thruxton and British GT at Donington Park! Over in America, we have the NASCAR at Charlotte.

Formula 1 took place in Melbourne, Australia this weekend. Reigning Champion, Max Verstappen broke down in his Red Bull, handing the win to Ferrari driver Charles LeClerc. His team mate, Carlos Sainz also had trouble with his car. The other Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez managed to bring his car home in 2nd, whilst the Mercedes drivers of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton managed to take 3rd and 4th places. Indycar had a great weekend, with the IMSA World Sports Cars on the Sunday and the single seater on the Sunday. Cadillac took the 1st and 2nd places. In Formula E, Jaguar had a great weekend in Rome, with a win for New Zealand driver, Mitch Evans. Moto GP had a second win for Italian rider, Enea Bastianini at the Circuit of Americas, with lots of top runners being either taken out by other riders or crashing out all together! Thankfully, there we no injuries. It was good to see Marc Marquez back following his high sider accident two races ago. On the Superbikes, Turkish rider, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu was fighting against British rider Jonathan Rea and Spanish rider, Alvaro Bautista for the win, which Bautista managed to take from the other two riders. NASCAR took place at the Martinsville Speedway, in Virginia, where the biggest event of the race was a fight between drivers Ty Gibbs and Sam Mayer, where drivers were fined $15,000 for the punchup. William Byron ended up winning the race in his Chevrolet. Next weekend, we have a quiet weekend, with NASCAR in Tennessee. Some GT4 racing at Oulton Park. British Superbikes also kick off at Silverstone.
