Ken Roczen, Shane McElrath, Joey Savatgy, and Coty Schock discuss all that happened at the final round of the 2024 FIM World Supercross Championship in Abu Dhabi.
Since taking charge of the World Supercross Championship (WSX) rights-holder SX Global in July of this year, company CEO Tom Burwell has quickly made a positive impression upon inheriting the series from previous management. Three rounds into the 2024 season, the promise is apparent, but behind the scenes the challenges are still vastly evident. MotoOnline's Alex Gobert had the opportunity to sit down with the ex-Formula 1 executive ahead of Perth's WSX Australian GP last weekend to learn more about WSX 2.0.
In this special WSX Australian Grand Prix edition of Post-Race, hear from Matt Moss, Luke Clout, Mitchell Oldenburg, Vince Friese, Kyle Webster, Cole Thompson, Joey Savatgy, Shane McElrath and Kayden Minear following a stacked weekend of World Supercross action in Perth, available now across the leading podcast platforms.
It's round one of the 2024 World Supercross Championship (WSX) in Canada this weekend, where the restructured series will drop the gates on its third season of competition. We caught up with SX Global CEO Adam Bailey to discuss the latest news coming from World Supercross, including their new investors and how they plan to act upon their original messaging and promises.
After a tumultuous few weeks with rumors of race cancellations, boardroom negotiations with financial backers, and a press release that promised "positive future developments" to support the FIM World Supercross Championship, SX Global has announced the sale of its business to a new investment group. The organization, led by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori, will work alongside longtime WSX principal Adam Bailey, who will maintain his role as CEO of the series as it continues its second year. Kyril is the son of Robert Louis-Dreyfus, who served as CEO of advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi and sporting giant adidas, while his great-great-grandfather Léopold Louis-Dreyfus established the family's businesses in agriculture, shipping, energy, raw materials, and finance that, according to its 2022 financial report, operates in more than 100 countries with 21.6 billion dollars in total assets. Sartori is known for forming the Union Group immediately after graduating from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, and through his increasing political influence with the National Party, the oldest active political group in the South American country. Louis-Dreyfus and Sartori have been close friends and business partners for some time. Both are on the board of directors at Sunderland AFC and will join Adam Bailey in similar roles at SX Global.

It's been about a year since I first talked with Adam Bailey about the FIM World Supercross Championship. In the 357 days since, he helped the series launch and run through a pilot tour, moved his family up the coast of Australia, and got promoted to CEO of SX Global. The twelve months of work and travel gave Bailey a glimpse into the next part of his motocross career. He knows that directing WSX's plans for the sport will be an ambitious effort, one that'll rely on everything he learned from Australia's small but mighty motocross industry and will take a few years to see through. But he's ready for it all, motivated by the teams involved and feedback from fans that were in Cardiff and Melbourne.

When the FIM World Supercross Championship was announced a few months ago, we quickly assumed that MotoConcepts Racing would be involved. Mike Genova, the owner of the independent team that's become a mainstay in the paddock, has always been vocal in his beliefs that following the traditional schedule of US SX and MX would only take his team and the sport so far. So we weren't surprised when MotoConcepts Racing was among the first teams awarded a highly sought-after license. MCR will field four riders between the SX1 and SX2 categories during this year's pilot season, which will take place in the final months of 2022, and is confident that their lineup will be championship contenders. According to Genova, the program presented by SX Global checks every box for MCR, including financial support for teams, appearance fees, logistical support for the international tour, and a vested stake in the future of the series. The business side of him sees plenty of positives, too, as the commercial opportunities could bring more money to the team, its partners, and his other ventures.
