The Ministry of Finance on Wednesday extended the deadline for the implementation of a new rule that mandated 20 per cent tax collected at source on foreign remittances. The increase in the TCS rate from 5 per cent, which was set to kick in on July 1, would now be effective from October 1. More importantly, the ministry added that overseas spending using credit and debit cards as well as remittances under the liberalised remittance scheme, up to Rs 7 lakh would not attract TCS. But, how will this new TCS regime affect you? The long-speculated merger of India's largest lender HDFC Bank and mortgage entity HDFC Ltd is finalised. HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh had said that the boards of HDFC twins are going ahead with the merger effectively on July 1. In Today's Special, we discuss the implications that the merger is going to have on the two entities and how it will affect the banking sector. Both the HDFC boards will meet on June 30, which would also be the last board meeting of mortgage entity HDFC Ltd, and its shares will go off-market effective July 13. Meanwhile, market action in the first half of the calendar year 2023 was triggered by moderation in domestic inflation, steady interest rates, return of foreign investors and some support from domestic institutions. Against this backdrop, benchmark indices notched fresh lifetime highs during these first six months of 2023. So, which sectors emerged as the top leaders and top laggards in H1CY23? And will the momentum continue in H2CY23 as well? Below the boundless blue expanses lies the centuries-old wreckage of RMS Titanic surrounded by mesmerising oceanic flora and fauna – this is what the tourists travelling in OceanGate's Titan submersible must have been looking forward to. While the expedition met with a catastrophic end, it has brought to light how wreck-diving is developing as a popular segment of the global underwater tourism market. Listen to this episode of the podcast and take a deep dive to understand what is wreck-diving.

Wreck diving is a staple for a lot of scuba divers, it's a way to literally dive into the past and explore places that few people can or ever have seen. Inside shipwrecks is a fascinating place to be, where industrial architecture is combined with natural structures growing on it. And, there's often interesting shiny stuff to look at. But no touch, only look But, shipwrecks can be deceiving.
Shipwreck Diving the Warships of Guadalcanal Exploration Leader Terrence Tysall recounts the expedition to the World War 2 shipwrecks of Guadalcanal. Terrence discusses the history of the battle and the diving technology required to dive shipwreck in the 450fsw depth range. We also discuss the genius of a plan to go back to Guadalcanal...... The Naval Battle of Guadalcanal consisted of a series of sea engagements related to the Japanese effort to reinforce their land forces on Guadalcanal. The Japanese under Admiral Yamamoto Isoruku organized a convoy, embarking 7,000 troops. In conjunction with their troop landings, Japanese naval forces were to bombard US Marines in order to destroy U.S. aircraft that posed a threat to the Japanese ship movements. Ultimately, U.S. naval forces prevented the Japanese bombardment and sank most of the enemy troop transports. The only two U.S. Navy flag officers (Rear Admiral Daniel J. Callaghan, Rear Admiral Norman Scott) to be killed in a World War II surface engagement were lost in this battle. Two U.S. light cruisers, four destroyers, and 35 aircraft were lost; three destroyers were damaged. The Japanese lost two battleships, one heavy cruiser, three destroyers, eleven transports, and 64 aircraft. Japan’s defeat also ended the enemy’s final significant attempt to dislodge the Allied forces in the eastern Solomons.

Unusual Wreck Diving stories & probabilities that make scuba so much fun,Pt2 expedition to Titanic! This was going to be another long one so we split it into 2 parts Part one, we are incredibly fortunate to be speaking with John Chatterton as he has some amazing stories to tell and wont be doing many podcasts after this so get the stories straight from John himself This was originally a podcast just about Titanic and how Johns self funded trip made it from a general discussion to a proper expedition and how their findings by chance changed the thought process and theories about how Titanic sank! We had such a good chat with John that we had to share these stories about unusual diving probabilities, like the one mentioned above, we start off with a bit about peer pressure and how even John with his vast experience will happily call it if he isn’t feeling it! A good lesson for all for sure! The probabilities he chats about are like, finding rubies and getting the rights to a certain wreck from a judge who's father was on it many years earlier! John also talks about his early days and diving on air to 250ft+ on the Andrea Doria, Lusitania and Britannic, The sister ship of Titanic, plus German UBoats, then his progression to Nitrox mixed gases and then some of the first and sometimes reliable Rebreathers A fascinating chat that we had to put out there which actually does lead on nicely to the Titanic, this will be in part 2 out soon and you wont want to miss it! We put our history hats on to speak with Brandi Mueller, whose work as an award-winning underwater photographer is featured in her book The Airplane Graveyard (available now on Amazon)!
Espiritu Santu Vanuatu Diving If you are looking for a bucket list dive to add to your diving list, then diving the SS President Coolidge wreck dive in Espiritu Santu Vanuatu is a must. I met Danielle Jolly in the Galapagos and got to learn about her experience diving in Vanuatu as well as other things to do in Vanuatu like checking out the underwater post office! The SS Coolidge was used in WWII as a transport for troops and was sunk with landmines during the war off the island of Espiritu Santo. It currently sits in 35-60 meters of water so an advanced level of diving needed. While there isn’t a current, because it is a wreck dive and there are areas of full penetration available, the experience is a must! Going inside the ship and seeing the statute of “The Lady” is a highlight. Tradition for seeing “The Lady” involves taking out your regulator and giving the lady a kiss! If you want to do this dive and are an advanced diver, then we recommend diving with Allan Power dive tours. He takes small groups and even has a spare diver on land that is ready to jump in if needed. A night dive was the highlight of the dive on the SS President Coolidge for Danielle. There’s a fish called the flashlight fish that are sensitive to light and contains a bubble of phosphorus. Just as the sun goes down the fish light up come out of hiding to feed. These tiny fish are visible by the thousands and it is a similar experience to looking up at the stars! The best time to go diving in Espiritu Santu in Vanuatu would be May-October to avoid the rainy season. Because of the tropical weather, the water is warm and great for diving. There’s a reef around the island of Espiritu Santo, with some of the best snorkeling. There’s a blue hole in the middle of the island that you can access via bicycle. Hideaway Island is about a five-minute boat ride from Espiritu Santo, and it contains the world’s only underwater post office. Make sure you buy your waterproof postcard and stamp first! If that wasn’t adventurous enough for you, visit the island of Tanna, hike up the volcano and visit their post office as well! If you liked this podcast episode, and want to hear another diving episode, then check out episode #1 on the Manta Ray Night Dive in Kona, Hawaii!
