Have you ever doubted the reliability of the Bible?Our guest today, Mary Jo Sharp was raised in Portland, Oregon. Where she grew up, there wasn't much talk about God or the Bible. The only Christianity she really saw on display was what was shown in the movies.As she grew older, she started having questions about the meaning of life and began investigating for answers. Around this same time, her high school band director gave her a bible. She was about to graduate, and he knew that she would have questions. He told her to turn to the Bible for answers.In college, Mary Jo started going to church. She was searching for answers and community, but not all of the experiences she had were good. Through her spiritual journey, she encountered apologetics. In her wrestling with her faith, apologetics provided some of the answers she was desperately searching for.Mary Jo is now an assistant professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University and the founder and director of Confident Christianity Apologetics Ministry. She has been featured in Christianity Today's cover story “The Unexpected Defenders” and is an international speaker on apologetics, focusing on love and logic to uncover truth. In times of grief, people turn to many different things in an attempt to numb the pain, but true hope is found in Jesus. In today's episode, Kristin speaks with Amber Smith about how tragedy struck her family and how they've moved forward and are healing little by little by God's grace.Amber Smith is a Christ follower, wife, mother, and philanthropist. She lives on a farm in central Texas with her husband Granger and their three children. In 2019, the family suffered a terrible tragedy when their youngest son River drowned.Through the pain, the Smith's felt the closeness of God like never before, and they vowed to bring good from their suffering. For the last three years, Amber has shared her testimony and the hope we have in Jesus. She started the River Kelly Fund and has since donated over $400,000 to nonprofits to keep his legacy alive. Are Jesus' words more important than Paul's?A relatively large group of believers today hold the belief that Jesus' words are more important than Paul's or the rest of scripture. Here at Abiding Free, we believe that the entirety of scripture holds equal value and authority. If we're saying that Paul's words are not as significant as Jesus' words, then we diminish the authority of the rest of scripture. Jesus commands us to believe and obey the entirety of scripture. Is doubt among people growing? Or has it always been there and it's just not really talked about? We can spend our whole lives trying to understand the love of God and never fully grasp it in our limited minds. Paul tells us in the book of Ephesians that it is a love that "surpasses knowledge" (3:19).  In this episode we will see a depiction of God's love that should take our breath away! This is a passage in Zephaniah that describes an ecstatic love and delight poured out from a perfect God onto a sinful people. God's love doesn't always make sense. Last week we followed the tragic scene of the continued rebellion of the people. God's kindness hadn't led them to repentance, and neither had His judgement.
