We all have that one thing that's so hard to hand over to God entirely. We know His will and way are best, but our flesh fights against it. Sometimes surrender is a process. God's will and way is the best thing for us; He writes the best stories when we lay down our desires at his feet. But what does that look like? We're talking about that and more in episode two of the Lay it Down series. If you or someone you know is struggling to let go and let God, this episode is for YOU! As always, we've invited a friend to join the conversation! In this episode, we talk with a young adult, Nicole Rupp. She's currently living a dream of hers on staff for Young Life staff here in Tampa, FL, an outreach ministry for teens. She's a Florida native but loves to unplug in the mountains. When she's not hanging out with middle schoolers, you can find her sipping a vanilla latte, playing pickleball, or spending time with the people she loves. She talks with Delaney and Mandie about what it has looked like for her to lay down her whole heart and trust God with the big stuff, including her singleness. We all have things in our life that we know need to go, things that weigh us down and hold us back from receiving and living out God's best. Yet even when we know something isn't good for us, we can still struggle to release it. How do we experience God's strength in our weakness? In this series, we're talking with women of different ages and life stages about what it looks like to let go and let God. We'll be sharing personal experiences, as well as discussing Scripture that points us to hope and truth. First up, we talk with Tracy Fruehauf. She's the wife of a military man and mother to three teen/tween boys and a spunky little girl. Perfectly imperfect, she loves much because Jesus loves (and forgives) her so much. Tracy has an infrequent blog where she tells of God's faithfulness to her family at OneFrueOverTheCuckoosNest.com.Pull up a seat and join us at this table of brave conversation! We are wrapping up the You Can Rest series by walking through the You Can Rest share guide, a mini-Bible study on finding and experiencing rest. We brought back University of Nevada student, Summer Sollis to join us for this conversation. We talk about rest in Jesus as a game changer! It's available to us at all times, even amid our work or in the middle of what feels like chaos; Jesus wants us to experience the rest and peace he offers. Not only that, but God created a rhythm of rest for us to follow that includes work followed by physical rest. God called rest "holy." His command for rest is good for us! This conversation through the share guide also brought us all to agree that naps are a good thing, Jesus even took one in the middle of a storm! Wherever you are, we invite you to take a break from the noise, pull up a seat, and join us for this meaningful conversation about rest! Learn more about Brave Girls Gather here. We are continuing our "You Can Rest" series with Shelbi Clark, a 27 yr old with a passion for Jesus. writing, and people. Her favorite pastime is stringing together words that remind herself and others of how human they are. She's an open book when it comes to her battle with mental health and brings us her testimony of finding rest and discovering her worth in Jesus versus her work. In this episode, we also look at the story of Martha and Mary in Luke, Chapter 10. Martha was distracted with productivity like so often we can be. Mary had found rest and joy in the simple act of sitting at Jesus' feet, enjoying His presence. Pull up a seat at this table of brave conversation and ponder with us how we see ourselves in both of these women. Maybe you will find yourself in them, too, and come out with a deeper understanding of what experiencing rest and living it out means for you. Our world seems to be moving faster and faster every day. As we seek to better understand the rest Jesus offers, we'll model and pass on the kind of life the generation coming after us will crave to live also! You can find more of Shelbi's words at loveintofreedom.com Or follow her on Instagram here.Download the You Can Rest Share Guide, a mini-Bible Study on finding and experiencing rest here.
We are continuing our "You Can Rest" series with some special friends, Mindy Tobin and Jane Stephens. In a world that refuses to slow down, how do we find rest? In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites all who are weary and weighed down to come to Him and find rest. In this series, we are discovering more about the rest Jesus promised and what it looks like to experience it and live it out! In this episode, we talk about ways past trauma or abuse can make accepting Jesus's invitation to rest more complicated. Sometimes we need a safe sister to sit with us, listen to us, and help us take it to Jesus. Sometimes we are the sister who needs to sit, and other times we are the one who gets to lead the way. As we go to Jesus, a great exchange occurs - pain for peace, anxiety for rest, hurt for healing. Jane Stephens, a certified mental health coach, spent 15 yrs leading a ministry for women with a history of sexual abuse. She is a lover of Jesus and passionate about seeing women of all ages discover the freedom and rest Jesus has for them as they invite Him into their stories of trauma. Mindy Tobin is a servant leader who is passionate about kingdom justice, civil righteousness, and helping church leaders understand the great need to make victims and survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse feel safe, seen, heard, and welcomed in their church environments. How often do you beat yourself up with your thoughts? Have you ever considered the root of those thoughts? In this next episode of the Fix Your Thoughts series, Mandie talks with the founder of UncommonTEEN, Jamie Kirschner about how words spoken over us in the past, might still be impacting our present. Words are powerful; the ones spoken over us and the ones we speak over others. We want to recognize and tear down the lies that we've been believing for far too long and replace them with what is good and true. We want to be careful of what we speak over others, also, especially young people. Our words can either tear down or build up! Mandie and Jamie both share personal stories and practical steps to changing our thought life for the good. Growing up in small-town Missouri, Jamie longed to have someone guide her through the issues she faced as a teen but sadly ended up navigating them alone. At age 18, she felt the call to serve Christian teen girls by doing just that…helping girls overcome real-life issues and stay true to who God created them to be. Jamie now lives outside of Nashville, TN, and has been faithfully serving teens for over 20 years. You can learn more about UncommonTeen here. Connect with Brave Girls Gather on Instagram.
