We were honoured to be recording in a cedar longhouse on the ancestral Nisqually lands of Hweqwidi HANFORD MCCLOUD. The pod chatted with Hanford alongside relatives Juan Carlos Chavez, Alvin Harvey, and a furry friend for support. She is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy and an AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselor. She received the American Occupational Therapy Association Roster of Fellows Distinction in 2024. Kathryn is the founder of continuing education company, the Institute for Sex & Occupational Therapy and developed the first certification program within Occupational Therapy to enhance OTPs preparedness to address sex in all clinical practice settings. Through education and building community, her mission is to dismantle the restrictive norms related to sex that restrict discussions of sex in healthcare settings. She developed the United States' military's first Occupational Therapy Sexuality Clinic at Walter Reed National Military Medical. As we come to the end of the year, it's a great time to reflect on what did and didn't and set goals for the year ahead. I must confess, though, I've never been very good at setting and sticking to goals and plans. As a big-picture thinker, I tend to find the smaller details boring and like to just ‘go with the flow'. However, after 20+ years in business, I've discovered that goals, plans, and structure really are my best friends and help me stay on track, working on things that matter, vs. getting distracted.
