Today on the show, we are talking about rest with the lovely Melanie Redd. Melanie is an author, speaker, wife, and mom, and it was such a pleasure having her on the show. Before diving into the topic of rest, I had to use our time together to my advantage and pick her brain as a working mom. Melanie has been a writer for a long time, and it's also something she navigated while raising little ones. Anytime I have the opportunity to learn from a woman who inspires me and has already walked down a path I am fumbling through, I can't help but ask a few questions. Her advice was encouraging and so helpful. As we discussed rest, I loved that Melanie has a realistic view when sharing solutions for a busy culture. She doesn't suggest shutting it all down and closing out the world, but she does point us right back to where we need to be looking. She also shared some practical advice on how to live a more intentional, less stressful life. Melanie shared her new devotional called Just Rest. If you're busy and can't find the time, this is the one. It's so easy to consume in a short pocket of time. Each one takes less than ten minutes, and you walk away feeling refreshed.I hope you enjoy today's episode as much as I did.Episode Highlights: A little on Melanie and her story. Some insight and perspective from an empty nester. How to balance work and home as a mom.How husbands can help support working moms.A discussion of why we always feel the need to be productive. How to remember biblical truths throughout the stress of the day.How to rest without shaving things off of our calendar.More on Melanie Redd:Visit Melanie's Website HEREJust Rest BookJust Rest FreebieMelanie's PodcastMore on The Millennial Mission/Links Mentioned in Episode:Follow us on IG: @bethanyandcoreySign Up for exclusive discounts, benefits, and top secret info only our podcast listeners get!www.millennialmission.coPress Inquiries/Contact: bethany@millennialmission.co

How to overcome your fear of Reels Do you ever get all in your head about posting and experience a little spark of fear? It ignites then it starts catching. Pretty soon, you are frozen and can't do anything! You can't post, so you go back in your hole and decide “I'm not going to post today,” or “It's not meant to be,” or “I'm too busy. I've got other things going on. Nobody cares.” If that sounds like you, today's episode is for you because it's all about fear of posting. Let's talk Instagram anxiety: I looked it up on Google, and it's a real thing. Instagram anxiety, fear of posting social media, anxiety of putting yourself out there. Are you ready? Because I've got some answers for you. Listen in. I know what it's like to be there and wonder, does anyone care? Are people going to laugh at me? Do I look old? Do I look like, I don't know what I'm doing. Do I just look silly or foolish? Who am I to sound like an authority on Instagram. Oh, the excuses. I hear you, however we know what works on Instagram. Number one, consistency and posting anything! But also number one for 2022 is Reels. Reels are powerful. We've been saying this all year. It's a proven fact. Overcoming fear of Reels to succeed in 2022 You could post three Reels a week, and even if they dove and you only got a few views, they would most likely be useful. I'm not saying there is not space for posts too. Carousels, I still do those. What I'm saying is you can get things done faster and reach your audience faster with Reels. So back up a minute and let's talk about stories first, because stories are your gateway to Reels. And I'm going to talk about more of that in our next episode, how to repurpose stories to Reels, but stories is one form of video. That's very powerful and helps you connect with people in the DM, because that's where the conversation starts. That is the intersection of your life. And your followers' interests because of how they connect with you and resonate with you have a lot to do with how much you share of your life in stories and the behind the scenes of your work, your message, and just things about you. Using stories to overcome fear of Reels You've got to have some guts and be willing to show yourself in stories. Test out stories with 15 second frames. Just talk to the camera in 15 second frames. If you don't like that 15 seconds, redo it! No one will know. Because you didn't post it. So stories are the ground level behind the scenes where you can talk to people, but also where you test what people might need to hear from you on the larger levels, like live video, regular video or Reels. This is such a hack for getting over your fear of Reels! Again, Reels are the hot tip. They have their own algorithm. We'll talk more about that and how to test stories and repurpose them for video and for Reels in the next episode, but back to fear for a minute. Last week I created a Reel that was repurposed from stories. Talk to your audience Every once in a while, I'll do a poll and talk to my audience in stories and feel the pulse where they're at, what are their pain points in the arena that I teach. Content marketing on Instagram and in newsletters. If I see that people are responding, then sometimes I will take that content and repurpose it into other bites of content on other levels on Instag...

Today's episode covers how to choose email providers that will simplify your routine! In this special series we've been bringing you all month long in September, we've discussed best practices for email list building. We started out with episode 8, 7 Link in bio apps for driving traffic, because if you're on Instagram, you need to be building an email list. It doesn't matter where you are. If you are an online marketer or trying to drive traffic somewhere, you need an email list! So go back and listen to episode eight, if you haven't caught it already. That one was a fun one. I did with my son and daughter, and we all just kind of conversed about these seven different options for Instagram Link In Bio. We have sample screenshots and links of all of them in the show notes for that episode. Episode nine was about effective newsletter opt-ins for email list building. My special guest was Sarah Geringer and she taught us more about exactly how to do this and the different places to put it on your website. She also gave us a biblical spin on this and how to give your list up to God and how to honor your readers and to just treat them with respect. Episode 10, How to write newsletters they actually WANT to read. Let's go through them one at a time. 1. Mailchimp "I'm still with Mailchimp. I just clean out my list every time it looks like I'm getting close to the limit. It's one of the easy and it's free email providers, and I have it set up so I don't have to even think about it most of the time." - Dawn Klinge. Sarah Geringer says, "I am a loyal customer to MC if nothing goes wrong. I've used them for five years and plan to continue!" Click image to visit website! 2. Mailerlite "I still have my old SunSparkleShine email list on Mailchimp but I'm using (and liking) Mailerlite for my coaching site. I made the switch around the time MC said they'd be charging for multiple lists/groups." - Marva Smith Click image to visit website! 3. GetResponse "I used GetResponse for awhile and am now switching to MailerLite. Lots of my clients had it and I liked the user friendly setup but I'm primarily using email now as an author, not a service provider and MailerLite is known for having a lot of great author-specific functions." - Jillian Bright Click image to visit website! 4. Flodesk "Flodesk $19.00 per month, and I absolutely love it! Super easy, very strategic, lots of templates, sequences are awesome, very user friendly. It was a smooth transition from MailChimp. When I go to write a newsletter, everything is streamlined and easy. Video trainings too." - Wren Robbins Click image to visit website! 5. Active Campaign "I like Active Campaign for the best return and best number of opens, automation and customer service." - Melanie Redd Click image to visit website! 6. ConvertKit "I love CK out of many email providers because 1. Email is their biz and we are who they serve, they keep it simple, basic, and always deliver. 2. Their customer service is second to none, and 3. Every time I've tried elsewhere I've returned to them knowing they are...

And Pat and I have known each other several years, she’s such a gracious friend. Before she developed a strategy R: Pat tell us a little bit about your Insta-life before you had a strategy. P: I was really on Instagram to follow my granddaughter, and I shared bits and pieces of my life, but I realized my people were there. But I’d get a freebie here or there, but as I watched you rock this I thought well if Ruthie can do this I can. But what was missing was strategy. I tried and dropped things without really a strategy. If I really want to reach my people, I need intentionality. R: Throwing things out - I did that for a while too and while you do have to start somewhere, you realize you can’t just throw something up and people will come but that’s not how it works, is it? P: Nothing is like that now because the internet today - if you just build it nobody’s gonna know about it. My struggle was trying to be authentic and realizing I had something to offer but I needed to actually TELL them about my product and ask people if they needed my product. Like nobody cares what I had for breakfast unless it’s part of my strategy. The importance of transparency on Instagram R:There has to be a balance and as I was talking with Melanie Redd, she learned it was ok to be transparent and share herself - you didn’t have a problem sharing yourself, you had the problem of sharing your actual message and products. P: I come from the infomercial age where salesy approach is sleazy. Now we’re in the story branding age where people talk about themselves to make themselves relatable because we know people don’t buy products, they buy results. But if you have a business you have to share it but with a balance that makes you authentic and also builds comfort for our people. The breakthrough that helped her get top blog traffic from Instagram R: Along those lines, why don’t you describe the breakthrough and direction you took after you realized you needed to share your message and what did you start implementing? P: My breakthrough was realizing from my Analytics, Instagram is one of my top 10 referrers back to my blog. I’m still a writer at heart so it’s all gonna lead back to my blog but I realized I needed to take this thing seriously. So I took a free video challenge because I knew I needed to get comfortable on video. Once I got over that hassle and became comfortable on video and on Instagram (and of course Facebook), I realized I needed to develop an Instagram strategy too. R: There are all different pieces of the social media puzzle - Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Did you realize that a large Instagram following doesn’t necessarily mean big engagement? Listen to this interview with Melanie Redd from @melaniemredd to find out what she learned by having a large Instagram following! R: Melanie has worked hard to really build her following and she has a large Instagram following. Before you discovered the magic of real authentic engagement on Instagram, what was your Instagram platform like and what were some of your frustrations? M: What I was taught about Instagram was grow grow grow - it was all about numbers (I needed a large Instagram following). I spent money going to classes taking classes doing all kinds of crazy things to get the most followers. R: I mean that's what I always thought - I was like "Man, Melanie's got it together; she's got all the followers, she's got the swipe up, she's got the 10,000..." and I think what took me aback was - you and I were at a blogger retreat together and I mentioned this actually in my episode 1 podcast (name of podcast) where you were leading the session and somebody said Instagram and you looked at me and said, "Ruthie, what is it you're doing on Instagram because you're killing it!", and I thought to myself, “I don't have near the followers she does, what is she talking about?!” so explain that to me. Experiencing the breakthrough - even with a large Instagram following Minute 4:10 M: I turned my personal account into a business account and tried to get as many followers as possible and I noticed that you were doing all these crazy stories and I was like “What is she doing over there? She’s not twenty!” And I knew my kids did it. I just noticed that you were doing things differently than anyone else I’d seen (our age). R: I tell my people that's really where I started to really love Instagram because stories hadn’t been around for very long and I started experimenting in stories of my family and funny things like that and people were really responding. So yeah I remember you saying that to me and I was like “she's the one with all the numbers why she asking me?!” so and and I think that proves a point; you don't need to be afraid to go off the beaten path. M: You started doing “the weird” and I thought, “Wait a minute I think I'm missing something.” Everybody else was doing the same stuff but you were doing things that were creative and different and sort of “out there” and people our age and in our niche weren’t trying very many of those things. So I thought, “Ok, I like to learn new things” and I thought Ruthie, you’re onto something. You’re not afraid to do what the 20-year-olds are doing.” R: If you do the nice little neat things that's great but no one ever really gets to know you behind the account. Share the pivot. M: In the same week, you and Jennifer Allwood (in her podcast) said, "Get out from behind your account, step out from behind your ministry and personal space. It was awkward at first especially if you weren't born with a cell phone in your hand your whole life, but for those of us (our age) this is still a little awkward. It's hard to put yourself out there but the beauty of just letting people see an authentic real person behind the ministry makes a difference. R: I know that was really hard for you and some of us are more private than others and some of us think we don't even have anything interesting to share. What was the breakthrough for you - how did you get past that sharing yourself? M: I realized it was the other side of a regular woman - people respond to that.

On today's episode of She Walks In Truth I have a meaningful conversation with author and speaker Melanie Redd. She is a woman who loves to encourage, equip, train and motivate women in all areas of their lives. Melanie also has great skills in helping others with their businesses. She’s been trekking up the social media mountain and lifting up the name of Jesus as high as she can while doing it. Her Testimony Melanie was blessed to be brought up in a Christian home and can’t remember a time when she wasn’t in church. Of course, she had heard the name of God and went to Sunday School, but she didn’t yet have a personal relationship with Jesus. After hearing someone else’s testimony at the age of 11, she talked with her parents to solidify her relationship with Christ – wanting to ensure she could spend eternity in Heaven with Him. So, she let Jesus into her heart that night and started a complete change in her life. How to Win Your Child’s Heart For Life Melanie that many of her daughter’s friends, at the age of 18, really cut off their relationship with their parents. So Melanie asked some ladies that mentored her about this and they said, “You have to win the hearts of your children.” Specifically from an early age, so that they want to come and see you once they’re out of the nest. There are some guiding principles on how to do this especially during middle school and high school when these relationships can get strained. Melanie wrote the book to help parents not lose this connection. If you haven’t set out to do this, don’t panic. Melanie believes you’re never too old to work on regaining trust with your children. You need to build a bridge with love and relating to them, not lectures and complaints. Meet them where they’re at and find a commonality with them. Melanie sees some parents focus on winning the battle, not the war. They may get their child to stop from getting a tattoo or going to one party, but there is so much anger and hurt caused that they start to lose their child’s heart. Take the helicopter view and see how you can form your relationship for life without worrying too much about how long their hair is or how late they are staying up. Stepping Closer to the Savior This is a guide Melanie wrote for new believers or those who have been in church but never sought to grow their faith. It’s written to not be “churchy” so anyone 12 and up could pick it up and use it. It’s a self-teaching book that can be used to help your own discipleship in sharing God’s word with others – whether it’s on the street, in your church, or at home with your spouse and children. Stop and Rest Another point Melanie highlights is how easy it is to get burned out in ministry. If you don’t take care of yourself, how can you expect to help others? A big message we would like to share with you is to make sure you stop and rest. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you exercising at all? Are you getting away from your kids for a bit and having date nights? Make sure you have a full cup, as it’s a surefire way to help share what blessings God has given you with others.
