Promly CEO Jen Libby and senior intern Katie Greer sat down with Scarlett Campbell, Promly intern and co-founder of the up and coming brand “Eye Matter.” Scarlett Campbell and her friend and co-founder, Shelby Rich, are both in high school, and they have been researching and creating a brand on Instagram to raise money and spread awareness for suicide prevention. They want people to know that you are more than your struggle with your own mental health. It is important that people have conversations surrounding mental illnesses, as you truly never know what someone is going through. They want people to spread kindness, and they want people to check in on both their happy friends and their sad friends. Scarlett shared some of her personal stories with us, and how she is able to manage being a Promly intern, a high school student, a volunteer and a co-founder of a brand at such a young age. Jen Libby, CEO and founder of Promly, sat down with Gabe Nathan to discuss all things mental health. Gabe Nathan shared some of his own mental health struggles, and shared when and how he realized he needed to reach out for help. He shared many stories from his life growing up that evoked a lot of strong emotions from the audience; sadness, hope, happiness, anger, anticipation, courage and more. Today, he aims to break the stigma of mental health and suicide by talking about it, and, more importantly, by driving his “Herbie” Love Bug. He is “driving out suicide” with his Love Bug. Alison Malmon launched Active Minds as a result of her personal experience in losing her brother to suicide while he was a student at Columbia University. Active Minds has chapters all over the country at universities and colleges that aim to change the conversation about mental health. This week, Promly founder Jen Libby, Gen Z intern Julia Vallario, and mental health ambassador Taya Hoy spent some time together hearing Taya's personal story of mental health struggles that began as a child, trauma, and ultimate healing in a time she least expected to recover. Taya is now a Gen Z ambassador for Colorado Wellness Center for Girls and a strong advocate for destigmatizing personality disorders. In this edition of the Promly Garden Podcast, Taya speaks openly about the challenging path that led her to be the person she is today. At 15, after years of struggling with her mental health, Taya was arrested for assaulting her mother. Taya was sent to the Colorado Wellness Center for Girls and ultimately found her peace, and her place in this world as a mental advocate and leader among her peers. Taya also talks openly about her own diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder, what it took to get that diagnosis and what that means for her and for so many teens that are diagnosed when they are young. Taya aims to pursue research with a particular interest in personality disorders and will continue the fight to destigmatize mental illness and personality disorders.
