Order in the court! Has science finally solved one of the biggest mysteries in the ocean... or is the jury still out? In this laugh-out-loud shark-tastic episode of Wow in the World, it's Judge Razzy's courtroom... where outrageous objections, surprise witnesses, and one very confused bailiff all collide in a hilarious trial to answer an incredible scientific question: Has the world's first baby great white shark been caught on camera in the wild?Behind all the courtroom chaos is a real scientific mystery that has fascinated marine biologists for decades. Kids and families will dive into the fascinating research sparked by wildlife filmmaker Carlos Gauna and biologist Phillip Sternes, whose extraordinary 2023 footage captured a completely white great white shark swimming off the coast of California. Could the shark's unusual color be evidence that it had just been born and was still covered by its nutrient-rich embryonic layer? The episode explores how baby great white sharks develop before birth, why scientists have never definitively identified a great white shark nursery, and how nearby sightings of pregnant sharks may offer exciting clues. Listeners will also discover why many scientists remain unconvinced—and how healthy scientific debate, careful observation, and collecting more evidence are essential parts of making new discoveries.Packed with hilarious courtroom comedy, surprising shark biology, scientific detective work, and plenty of unexpected twists, this episode celebrates one of the coolest things about science: sometimes the biggest breakthroughs don't answer every question—they inspire even more incredible ones.✨ Don't miss the chance to explore even further with Wow in the World:Grownups can visit tinkercast.com/join-twaaw to join the World Organization of Wowzers (WOW) and unlock exclusive activities, birthday cards, quarterly mailings, first dibs at events, and a welcome kit with an autographed photo of Mindy & Guy Raz! We all woke up to stunning news Sunday with the sudden passing of long time South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. President Trump said he had just spoken with the Senator, who had just returned from Ukraine, and that Graham sounded tired. Washington reacted to a man that even many democrats respected and liked. Meanwhile, Trump issues a harrowing threat to Iran of what will transpire if Trump is assassinated. And he's not kidding. Argentina needed some drama in the 112th minute of its match Saturday night against Switzerland to advance to the World Cup Final Four. The Royals select a right handed hitting outfielder from Louisville with the #6 pick overall in the MLB draft. He's the third #6 overall in Royals history... the other two worked out really well. And Stan Weber joins us after going to Big 12 Media Days last week and our focus is the upcoming season for the Kansas Jayhawks. This is a make or break year for 6th year coach Lance Leipold.

Some new animal behavior science is causing a buzz... Whether or not insects play like other animals is one of the biggest mysteries in the natural world. And in this exciting Wow in the World episode, why insects play takes center stage – or rather, center field – as Mindy, Guy Raz, Dennis, Thomas Fingerling, and Gramma G-Force suit up as bumblebees to investigate a surprising scientific discovery: bees might play just for fun!New research from Queen Mary University of London could change the way we think about play. Along the way, the crew explores an incredible series of experiments involving buff-tailed bumblebees, tiny wooden balls, and a question that scientists have been asking for years: do animals play simply because it's fun?But beneath the bee-themed mayhem lies a fascinating true story about researchers who first taught bumblebees to move miniature balls toward goals for rewards—and then noticed something unexpected. Some bees were rolling balls around even when there was no prize to earn. Could the bees have been playing for the sheer joy of it?Packed with laugh-out-loud moments, wild bee-ball action, and surprising science, this episode explores what play can teach us about animals—and ourselves. By the end, Guy Raz may even learn that not everything needs to be productive to be worthwhile. So grab your bee suit, roll a ball, and get ready for a buzzing adventure into one of science's most delightful mysteries. From bee soccer to big questions about fun, curiosity, and behavior, this Wow in the World episode proves that sometimes the reward isn't a trophy, a treat, or a goal scored—it's simply the joy of playing.

The insect world is full of sneaky disguises, secret signals, and copycat creatures… In this wild episode of Wow in the World, Mindy and Guy Raz uncover one of the strangest examples of mimicry in insects ever discovered, and the even stranger example of insect mimicry from Dennis's childhood! From caterpillars pretending to be baby ants to baby dolls pretending to be Dennises… mimicry has never been so bizarre!Dennis and Baby Dennis are in the middle of a full-blown mustached meltdown after Baby Dennis mysteriously locks Dennis out of his own home. Or, as Gramma G-Force keeps reminding everyone… his mother's home. As Dennis pounds on the door demanding to be let back inside, Baby Dennis insists that only the “real Dennis” knows the secret code. Uh oh.What starts as a neighborhood argument quickly turns into a science mystery involving possible identity theft, ant colonies, sneaky caterpillars, and one very dramatic puppet! In this episode, kids and families can dive deep into the fascinating world of gossamer-winged butterfly caterpillars—tiny tricksters that use insect mimicry to survive by fooling entire ant colonies into believing they're part of the family. These caterpillars don't look like ants at all, but somehow they convince ants to carry them into their nests, feed them, protect them, and sometimes even prioritize them over their own babies! How? By harnessing the art of insect mimicry.

In this tail-wagging, brain-boosting, and totally paw-some episode of Wow in the World, Mindy, Guy Raz, and the WOW crew dive into the surprising science of label learning! At the Dog Vocab World Championship, label learning takes center stage as some of the smartest pups on the planet show off their incredible memories. And as Mindy and Guy discover, label learning might help explain how dog vocabulary works and why dog vocabulary in certain dogs can be way more impressive than you'd ever expect! When Mindy and Guy Raz arrive at a giant stadium to commentate the annual Dog Vocab World Championship, Mindy is mostly focused on one thing: finding a snack. Unfortunately for her, she ends up in the dog toy line instead of concessions and barely has time to figure out what's happening before she and Guy are rushed on air. Once the lights go up and the crowd starts barking, cheering, and howling, Mindy realizes this is no ordinary dog show. This is a high-stakes battle of memory, focus, and fetch. The competitors? A trio of elite canine superstars: the polished Professor Lex, the rebellious fan-favorite Noodle, and the reigning champion Banjo. One by one, the dogs are asked to retrieve specific toys from a big pile on stage, including avocado, monkey, racecar, airplane, and more. To win, each dog must remember which word belongs to which toy and fetch the correct one without making a mistake. It's like a spelling bee, a memory game, and a sporting event all rolled into one very fluffy package. But amid all the excitement, Mindy and Guy uncover the real WOW: a fascinating new scientific study from researchers in Budapest suggests that some dogs may not only learn words through direct teaching, but also by simply overhearing humans talk to one another. That means a dog might be able to learn the name of a toy even when no one is talking to the dog directly! In the study, researchers worked with special dogs that already knew lots of toy names. Then, instead of repeatedly teaching a new word face-to-face, the dog's owner and another person casually talked about the toy together while the dog watched and listened. Later, many of the dogs were able to fetch the correct toy, proving they had learned the word just by overhearing it.Scientists call this process label learning: understanding that a word belongs to a specific object. It's something human babies do too, by listening to the people around them talk. And it turns out some dogs, especially highly attentive breeds like Border Collies, may be able to do something surprisingly similar. That makes these pups true outliers in the animal kingdom, with some dogs able to recognize hundreds, and in rare cases even over a thousand, words. With live commentary, dramatic toy fetches, barks from the crowd, and an unforgettable championship showdown, this episode is packed with laughs, suspense, and an incredible look at how dogs learn.

It's the week in review on Palace Intrigue, and what a week it was. King Charles addressed Congress, made a submarine joke at a White House state dinner, delivered honey to a Harlem farmer, and left Washington having said nothing quotable, offended no one, and received approximately a dozen standing ovations — mission, by all accounts, accomplished. Queen Camilla delivered a replacement toy kangaroo to the New York Public Library and warned an audience her voice might not last the speech. The gifts included a Second World War bell, Resolute Desk plans, Tiffany teaspoons, and White House honey. Meanwhile, Meghan published a sixteen-designer fashion interview during the state visit, the OneOff platform controversy rumbled on, and a Heat World report claimed Harry privately winces at Meghan's money talk. In this high-speed episode of Wow in the World, Mindy and Guy Raz turbocharge an ordinary day… It's the 25th-Annual DIY Homemade Go-Kart Derby! But in classic Mindy fashion, she isn't showing up with just any homemade kart—she's built a cutting-edge Formula 1-style race car! As it turns out, Formula 1 racing is basically “one giant science fair,” powered by teams of scientists working to design the fastest cars possible!Of course, getting to the race is no simple task. Instead of driving, Mindy insists on preserving the precious engine by enlisting the sleigh cats' help to pull the car. At the track, they meet their driver– a familiar and unlikely face– and prepare for the big race. As the countdown begins, excitement builds, blending science, silliness, and speed into a wildly entertaining race-day finale!Packed with humor, wild antics, and fascinating STEM concepts, this episode shows how science fuels everything from backyard projects to the fastest cars on Earth.
Get your whiskers ready! In this episode of Wow in the World, Mindy and Guy Raz step onto the wildest game show ever: The Purrr-fect Match–where cats sniff out their humans based on smell! Inspired by a real scientific cat study from Tokyo University of Agriculture, this episode dives into the science of how cats recognize (or ignore!) their humans, all while navigating a backstage full of chaos, celebrity cats, flying pennies, and one Gramma G-Force. Laugh, learn, and discover why sometimes the “wrong” answer is actually the purr-fect one!
In this laugh-inducing, hair-raising, and educational episode of Wow in the World, Mindy, Guy Raz, and the WOW crew learn about a new way to help strengthen teeth!Dennis reveals his brand-new haircut - a perfectly round, helmet-shaped hairstyle hardened with hair gel. While the crew struggles to compliment the new ‘do, the conversation quickly spirals into unexpected territory when Thomas Fingerling and Gramma G-Force insist that Dennis made a terrible mistake by throwing away his hair clippings… According to them, everyone knows hair clippings should be placed under your pillow for the mysterious “Hairy Fairy,” who sneaks in through the keyhole to collect them. If the hair is strong, you might get a prize - maybe even a yacht. If it's weak? Expect a boiled egg.But amid the bonkerballs chatter, Mindy realizes something: the Hairy Fairy's strange obsession with hair might actually connect to real science. She shares an incredible new study from scientists at King's College London showing that keratin - the protein that makes up our hair and nails - could someday help repair damaged tooth enamel. Since enamel is the hardest material in the human body, but can't grow back once it wears away, researchers have been searching for ways to rebuild or strengthen it. Their discovery? When keratin interacts with minerals in saliva, it can help form a protective crystal coating on teeth! This coating could potentially strengthen enamel and even outperform the plastic resin materials dentists currently use - making teeth far more resistant to cavities. In the future, keratin from hair could be added to toothpaste, mouthwash, or dental treatments to protect smiles everywhere! With rollerblades, hair helmets, imaginary creatures, and cutting-edge dental research all colliding in one hilarious adventure, this episode proves that even a haircut can lead to jaw-dropping science.
What happens when biodegradable plastic bags meet the tiny, powerful creatures living in our oceans? In this episode about environmental ocean science, Mindy and Guy take you on a wild ride to explore a scientific breakthrough in biodegradable plastic bags! Listen and and discover how microscopic ocean microbes devour this new plastic, turning it into harmless byproducts. From supermarket chaos to microscopic environmental ocean science, this adventure is full of funny funny hijinx, big adventure, and a breakthrough in biodegradable plastic technology. By connecting laughter to learning, this environmental ocean science episode shows how science and fun can sometimes collide in the most unexpected ways.It all starts in a bustling eco-conscious supermarket, where Mindy's stash of plastic bags sparks total chaos, teaching listeners why choosing biodegradable plastic bags over single-use plastics can make a big difference for the environment. Then, back at Mindy's gingerbread mansion, the real fun begins. She drops the bags into a giant seawater tank and, with the help of the incredible Wow Machine, shrinks down to microscopic size to witness ocean microbes at work. These tiny, hungry organisms munch, digest, and transform the plastic, turning it into safe byproducts—all while Mindy and Guy provide hilarious commentary and clear explanations of the science.Along the way, you'll learn that these biodegradable plastic bags can lose 80% of their mass in just over a year, compared to normal plastics that take hundreds of years to disappear. You'll also explore the role of microbes in ocean ecosystems, see why the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a massive environmental challenge, and discover how smart, eco-friendly inventions like biodegradable plastic bags could help protect marine life. These ocean experiments for kids highlight the invisible teamwork happening in nature and make it easy to understand how science solves real-world problems—while keeping the fun high and the laughs constant.Get ready for a whirlwind adventure full of chaos, clever science, and lots of laughter. From flying tomatoes in a supermarket to shrinking down inside a giant seawater tank, Mindy and Guy show how biodegradable plastic bags work in action, why microbes are nature's unsung heroes, and how small changes in our daily lives can have a big impact on the environment.
