i2R 022: How to Hold Yourself Accountable

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 24, 2018 8:45

On the show today, I am doing another what I’ve learned Wednesday. After interviewing over 20 extremely successful business owner and founders I take some of their keys strategies and bring them to you in these short-form bi-weekly episodes. This week I dive deep into accountability. Whether that Is accountability with a mentor, group, mastermind or life partner, it does not matter. You only need someone or something to hold you accountable to do what you say you are going to do until you build that muscle enough where you can hold yourself accountable. Of course, mastermind groups and mentors are some of the best ways to do this, but they both will most likely cost you a good amount of money. I am not saying that it is not worth it because speaking from experience it most definitely is, however, if you do not have that extra money to spend each then what you CAN do is start hanging around like-minded people. People who will tell you how it is and not sugar coat things for you. They want to accomplish big things just like you and if you say you are going to do something, and you don’t follow through, then they will let you know. They will not let you off the hook, they will call you out and hold you accountable. THESE are the kinds of people and friends you should be spending your time with. “Without accountability, we are just going to keep running in circles.” FIND A MENTOR, surround yourself with people who will keep it real and hold you accountable and call out your BS. When you say you’re going to do something, it is EXTREMELY important to follow through and do these things. The more you trick yourself into thinking that it’s not important to do what you say the harder it is going to be to actually execute on your dreams and ideas.  Now get out there find your accountability team and GET AFTER IT.

i2R 019: Strategies and Techniques on How to Crush Your Goals

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 3, 2018 14:52

Today’s episode of Idea to Reality is a bit different than what we have done up until this point. This is going to be a solo podcast episode called “What I’ve Learned Wednesday” where I talk about certain topics that have been repeatedly discussed in the past interviews with these 7,8,9 and even 10 figure rock stars. The purpose of these shorter podcasts is to take the extremely valuable knowledge from my guests and break it down into short 15-minute digestible episodes that provide real actionable steps on how to execute on these topics. This week’s topic is goal setting, actionable steps, and strategies on how to set yourself up to crush your goals. First things first, DON’T DOUBT THE PROCESS. Rome was NOT built overnight, however, if you’re not doing the right things every day you will never get to your end goals or objectives. Always remind yourself to be patient and persistent with your daily actions to get to that end goal. At the end of the day taking the consistent actions day in and day out is what is going to take you to the promised land. Strategies *How to bring your goals into reality.             -Step 1: Define your goals, let’s use 3-month goals as an example. Be VERY clear on what you want to achieve in that time to accomplish that specific goal. Specificity is KEY.             -Step 2: Determine 3-5 tasks/objectives/mini goals that you can achieve DAILY to push you to your end goals. That way, it is not just a big number or goal at the end of a dark tunnel. This way you can see the light at the end of the tunnel because you know that you are doing the required tasks daily that are bringing you closer and closer to your defined 3-month goals. We go into great detail about this in episode 18 with Craig Ballantyne – How to Structure Your Day to Achieve Success. -Learn how to pivot when things are not working. There is a dichotomy here between changing things too often and not often enough when things are not working. The definition of insanity is doing things over and over expecting a different result. Don’t be that person! In order to work on preventing this, you can evaluate things every 6 months or so and see what is working, what’s not and what you can change to get you closer to your goals. -Visualization is a very powerful technique when it comes to manifesting and creating your dreams and goals. In episode 13 with Dr. Chris Zaino – “How to Unlock Your Inner Hero” he actually goes through the visualization process in great detail on how to elicit a physical reaction to actually expect your goals to happen. -Create a Not-To-Do list. Also from episode 18 with Craig Ballantyne – How to Structure Your Day to Achieve Success. These are rules that you set for yourself to push you closer to your goals. This not-to-do list is crucial because without this in place, these exact activities will be canceling out your daily objectives that you are working so hard to accomplish. Quick Tips -Without consistent action, you will fail EVERY SINGLE TIME no matter what. -Get those small wins every day and implement the discipline to get you there. -“Chase the best version of yourself!” - Ed Mylett ⬇︎Connect with Me here! i2R 014: How Coding and Technology Are Changing the World ft. Anthony Delgado

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 28, 2018 77:11

Today on Idea to Reality we cover everything digital. Coming from a man who had his first computer in the 2nd grade and learned how to code and build websites at a very young. Anthony Delgado comes onto the show and talks to us about the power of technology in our current economy. Anthony was self-taught for the majority of his life and one major thing he realized on his journey was that instead of being stuck in analysis paralysis and watching thousands of videos and reading hundreds of books. He got out into the marketplace and tested. Saw what worked what didn’t work, learned how to pivot and learn from his mistakes and failures. Anthony also had an incredible experience working with one of the biggest entrepreneurs of our age Gerard Adams. He helped Gerard build up his current business Fownders into what we see today. During his time at Fownders, hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. Anthony found himself being called to lend his heart and help to the people of Puerto Rico. He started off by buying a pallet of water to send out and he then found out that the supplies he and his friends sent out along with thousands of others were actually stuck at the border and not even being distributed. This is when Anthony had the urge to go Disrupt Puerto Rico. He quit his job at Fownders and went to the island and gave away 300 solar lights, food, water and so much more. With some family ties to this beautiful island, Anthony knew this is where his future was. So, as of the last few months, Anthony has moved to Puerto Rico full time and has launched Disrupt Puerto Rico to help teach people everything digital including coding, hacking and digital marketing. Anthony is literally helping to breathe life back into the devastated economy of Puerto Rico by the work he is doing and the jobs he is creating. More importantly, he is helping to transform the island into the first digital hub of the Caribbean through Disrupt and the school he created called the Caribbean Institute of technology. Top 3 Takeaways: Don’t be scared to mess up, don’t be scared for your people to mess up. They will and you will just make sure you are learning from it and pushing forward. If you want to do massive things then utilize other people, hire on a team, ask for help, learn how to delegate. Get out in the market and actually test things out, see what works and what doesn’t work. Do not get stuck in analysis paralysis. Thank you all so much for taking the time to listen enjoy! This week’s guest Sean Douglas has an absolutely incredible story. It’s not like the ones you hear where he just worked hard and then got rich. This is a MUCH deeper more heartfelt story than I have heard up until this point on Idea to Reality. Sean had an extremely tough childhood filled with abuse, alcoholism, and so much more. The first real chance he had to remove himself from that situation he did exactly that and joined the air force when he was only 18 years old. Something interesting happened throughout Sean’s service in the air force. He started off as a big drinker, partier and all around just making poor choices when he first joined. As you can imagine a major reason for this was his rough childhood experiences coming back to the surface. After being like this for quite a few years Sean hit rock-bottom in September of 2008 after his house burned down and his wife took the kids away. That night Sean put a gun in his mouth to end it all. His life was filled with toxic relationships, negative self-talk, absolutely 0 belief in himself and without a purpose in life. He believed that the world would be a better place without him. That night, Sean received multiple calls from people in his support system and multiple people came over to ensure sure he did not take his own life because they all saw his worth even when he did not. After some real therapy and suicide awareness, Sean realized that he never felt valued. He did not do anything of value because he did not feel valued. This was a key moment of awareness. At this time Sean had a very negative mindset, and then, his mindset began to change. I AM worth something, I CAN do good. His great work ethic was pointed out to him by multiple people, he then went on to overcome drinking, smoking and began the journey of winning back his life and reputation. Years later, Sean has fulfilled one of his dreams of becoming a public speaker and delivering his first TEDx talk. Today, Sean speaks around the country, has his own radio show “Life Transformation Radio”, and a business called the Success Corps which helps to unlock your true potential and elevate your life to new heights. From psychology to mindset, to resilience training, we talk about it all and Sean gives us actionable steps on what we can do today to take ourselves to that next level. On the show today we have Rachel Jones, an incredibly humble, down to earth person, who ditched her 9-5 job as a nurse and ended up creating an extremely successful travel blog - “Hippie In Heels” - with over 1 Million views per month! Rachel has a very motivating story that will leave you inspired to find your passion, pursue your dreams and live the life you deserve!  We often hear about the "laptop lifestyle" and working from anywhere in the world, making it sound superficial and almost not possible. Rachel's story is much different. She takes us on her journey from leaving her “secure” 9-5 job as a nurse to making the decision to back-pack in India which then led her on an amazing series of events that ultimately led her to create “Hippie In Heels”, an ultra-successful travel blog. Rachel has experienced some things that many of us can only dream of or watch on National Geographic. One major thing that Rachel did on her journey was jumped & trusted that everything she did would fall into place. Making these leaps of faith over the past 6 years has led her to live a life that she would have never imagined when she first got on that plane to India. Rachel had no idea how she was going to make money, where she would go, who she would stay with, however, she TRUSTED the process, and everything aligned for her. Today she begins a new chapter in her life and blogging career in the beautiful city of Merida in Mexico. Her blog has been selected as “Top 50 Travel Blogs” internationally by the Expeditioner, Excellence in Blogging: Best Individual Travel Blog by SATTE Awards, and MANY MORE. She has been featured in Marie Claire Mexico, Cosmopolitan Spain, ELLE Magazine Netherlands, TripAdvisor, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post and so many more places. On the show today we have Levi King. Levi is an incredible serial entrepreneur who has started and scaled multiple small businesses. One thing I love about Levi is his humble beginnings. He grew up in a town of 300 people on a small farm with no TV or anything. He has created quite a different life for himself now and is a frequent contributor to big publications like Entrepreneur and INC, some of his childhood favorites (links below). During his entrepreneurial journey, Levi came to the realization that there was one massive obstacle across the board while running these companies. That obstacle was acquiring funding. Levi now has secured over 30 business loans and funding throughout his life. You can pretty much call him an expert in the field. In this episode, Levi explains how he leveraged his experiences from these initial businesses to implement them to help create this behemoth and current company NAV, which is helping small businesses around the world solve this funding problem head on! Awareness and knowledge are key to overcome this obstacle and Levi does everything he can to provide that for you while helping you secure the right business loan for your company. Levi talks about being authentic, business psychology staying transparent and true to yourself in order to make big things happen for you and your business.  On top of all that we got into Levi's venture capital funding rounds which he has now undergone multiple rounds. How he got the funding, what he did to put himself in that situation and what he actually did with the funds once they were received. There is so much to learn and enjoy in this episode I know you will love it! Today I had the opportunity to sit down with lifestyle and serial entrepreneur Fritz Colcol. Fritz is the CEO/Owner of Simply Thalia, Co-owner/CMO of Iridium Clothing Co., Co-Founder/Talent Principal of ZeroDay Partners, Co-owner of Thalia Spice, Co-Founder of Cafe Le Fit, CEO of SMART LLC & CEO of EC Media LLC. Let’s put it this way, Fritz has been an entrepreneur since day one.  It was really awesome to get to hear more about Fritz and how his entrepreneurial journey started back in the Philippines and how it has made an impact on what he has created thus far. Fritz was raised in the Philippines and came to the United States around the time he was 11 years old. In my opinion this was a huge benefit for him because he was still young and able to quickly adapt here in the States, however, he was still old enough to remember what it was like in the third world country that he grew up in. Fritz embodies gratitude every single day because he has lived it since he was a child. What I love the most about Fritz is the fact that he defines his success as how much of an IMPACT he makes on those around him, not the money he makes or the personal successes he has.  I think we all need to take some lessons from this episode and start, or continue, to work on making an impact, not just on ourselves but on those closest to us.
