In today's episode, Kyle Kostechka interviewed John Lee Dumas (JLD), host of the Entrepreneurs on Fire podcast, about entrepreneurship and trends in 2022. Some of the topics discussed: People are becoming experts in MICRO-niches. Gone are the days of 3 or 4 big players running the game. Become an expert in solving ONE problem and you'll become the one solution for your customers' problem. Don't be a watered down version of someone else. There's a shift towards organic audiences. Solopreneurs and mid-sized companies are getting priced out with HUGE companies piling into FB advertising.

With over 2,500 episodes, 1 million + listens a month, and seven-figures of annual revenue, JLD is just getting started! Benoy Thanjan Benoy Thanjan is the Founder and CEO of Reneu Energy, as well as an advisor for several solar startup companies. Reneu Energy is a premier international solar energy consulting firm and developer, and the company focuses on developing commercial and industrial solar, as well as utility-scale solar plus storage projects. The company also sources financing for solar projects and hedges both energy and environmental commodities. Reneu Energy has brokered $27 million in environmental commodity transactions. He originated SREC trades with buyers and co-developed their SREC monetization and hedging strategy with the senior management of SolarCity, to move into the east coast markets. Benoy also worked at Vanguard Energy Partners, Ridgewood Renewable Power, and Deloitte & Touche. John Lee Dumas JLD was born and raised in Maine where he went to Massabesic High School and then to Providence College on an ROTC scholarship to get his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002. After graduating, he was commissioned in the US Army as an officer. During his four years of active duty, he served eighteen months in Iraq and at the age of 23, JLD became the Armor Platoon leader responsible for men and tanks. After that, he served four years in the Army Reserves before becoming a civilian. After serving in the army, JLD struggled to find his next goal. He tried his hand at law school and dropped out in the first semester. Later he joined the John Hancock Life Insurance company in Boston but after working for two years with the organization, he decided to quit and took a commercial real estate job, which didn’t last more than a year. After spending a lot of time in his car, commuting during the jobs and having no interest in radio, JLD started listening to podcast interviews and instantly fell in love with their free and inspiring content and decided to start his own podcast. The distinguishing feature of his podcast was that it was a 7-day-per-week podcast where he interviewed several successful entrepreneurs. Despite not generating any revenue for the first nine months, he still remained confident and loyal to his listeners and his work. Since then, the podcast has grown and generated over $16 million in revenue with more than one million monthly listeners. After the success of his podcast, Dumas has started a free Podcaster Course which teaches everything a person needs to know to start their own podcast. JLD has also written several books on podcasting and productivity. The Freedom Journal: Accomplish Your #1 Goal in 100 Days The 100-Day Goal Journal: Accomplish What Matters to You The Mastery Journal: Master Productivity, Discipline, and Focus in 100 Days The Podcast Journal: Idea to Launch in 50 Days Podcast Launch: How to Create & Launch Your Podcast Kindle Edition The Common Path to Uncommon Success - available March 23, 2021 Insights from this episode: Reasons why JLD is incorporating solar and other sustainable features into his lifestyle. John Lee Dumas (JLD) is the host of Entrepreneurs on Fire, an award-winning podcast where he has been interviewing the world’s most inspiring Entrepreneurs. With more than 2,000 episodes, one million-plus listens a month, and seven-figures in annual revenue, JLD has learned a thing or two about podcasting. I learned about podcasting from John and joined his podcaster’s paradise in 2014. It is a community of more than 2,500 people and is the place to go to if you want to become a podcaster. I highly advise those who wish to become podcasters to go to the Apple Podcast called “Free Podcast Course” and listen up. “I never have since then created something that I didn’t first get proof of concept by actual people investing actual dollars into that offer.” John Lee Dumas Worst investment ever Clueless college investor When JLD was in college, he found this penny stock after reading some guy’s website. The stock was six cents at the time. JLD invested $1,000 instantly and planned to sell when the stock got to eight cents. He left it at that and went to class. Rich in 45 minutes JLD came back 45 minutes later, and the stock was at 12 cents. In literally 45 minutes, he’d made 1,000 dollars, which for a college student was a big deal. So he thought this is the best way ever to make money. So he cashed out immediately and sold his stock. Then the stock went up to 18 cents as he watched. JLD regretted selling and so out of guilt, he bought the stock at 18 cents and went to bed. He woke up the next morning and logged in around 11 am and the stock was down at 3 cents. JLD experienced first initial luck to double his money and then lost it all, and all this within 24 hours. Fast forward to 2013 In 2013, JLD was one year into Entrepreneurs on Fire when he thought it would be a good idea to come out with a course with an offering. He’d built an audience through his podcast and understood what it means to generate revenue online. So he sat down and came up with this great business idea. JLD’s idea was going to be this podcast platform where customers would simply record their episode, send JLD the mp3, he would edit it, add the intro and the outro, upload it to Libsyn and distribute it out to all the podcast directories. Putting his heart and soul to his offer JLD invested heavily in this idea. He hired about 10 people to work with the clients he had hopes of getting. He invested a ton of money, time, and bandwidth into it. And then he opened the doors. He couldn’t have failed faster Upon launching the offer, JLD got just two clients. One of them asked for a refund within 24 hours. The second one ended up being a nightmare client. He quickly learned that this was an incredibly lousy investment and decided to call it quits. Despite the offer being his worst investment ever because it costs a lot of time and took a lot of money, he was glad to have walked away and not let the sunk cost fallacy take him down. JLD went on to create another offer, after proper planning, and it remains a massive success to date. Lessons learned Listen to your audience Before you create an offer, ask your audience what they want. Find out what’s their most pressing need and the most suitable solution, then offer them that. Listening to your audience will guide you in creating an offer they will want to pay for. Get proof of concept first Before you create something, get proof of concept by getting a few people to invest actual dollars into that offer. Your timing could be everything Just because your offer doesn’t work the first time doesn’t mean that it’s a bad offer. The timing could be the reason. Your offer could be something that works down the road when the time is right. Don’t let the sunk cost fallacy take you down If your offer fails, don’t keep pushing it just because you invested your money, time, and energy in it. You’ll only be digging yourself in deeper. Take a pause and re-evaluate your offer then give it a second go. To succeed as an entrepreneur, learn how to avoid the sunk cost fallacy. Andrew’s takeaways You always have something of value to offer Sometimes you can get confused about what value you bring to the audience. Your voice, your experience, can end up being the thing that people are willing to pay for. Talk to your audience and find out what they find most valuable about you. No. 1 goal for the next 12 months JLD’s number one goal for the next 12 months is to complete his first traditionally published book, called The Common Path to Uncommon Success. So the first hour of every day for JLD, Monday through Monday, Saturdays, and Sundays included is spent writing this book. He plans to publish the book in the spring of 2021. Parting words “Try not to become a person of success, but rather a person of value. Those words are from Albert Einstein, and they changed my life back in 2012.” John Lee Dumas Connect with John Lee Dumas LinkedIn Twitter Facebook YouTube Website Andrew’s books How to Start Building Your Wealth Investing in the Stock Market My Worst Investment Ever 9 Valuation Mistakes and How to Avoid Them Transform Your Business with Dr.Deming’s 14 Points Andrew’s online programs Valuation Master Class How to Start Building Your Wealth Investing in the Stock Market Finance Made Ridiculously Simple Become a Great Presenter and Increase Your Influence Transform Your Business with Dr. Deming’s 14 Points Connect with Andrew Stotz: astotz.com LinkedIn Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube My Worst Investment Ever Podcast

Kate Erickson (@katelerickson) is the engine behind EoFire the Award-winning podcast where John Lee Dumas [JLD] interviews successful entrepreneurs. We talk about the idea of "Not Having Time" and go behind that story of going full time in your business. It can be overwhelming in the first instance BUT how certain practices like: knowing your why, knowing your end goal and understanding that clarity can make your entire journey easier, changes the game when it comes to how you spend your time. Kate references Simon Sinek's TED Talk "Start With Why" that you can check out on YouTube HERE The biggest take away was that everyone's journey is different and you have to get clear on your perfect day, week and proactively work towards that everyday by taking imperfect action and improving overtime.

Many people are dreaming of leaving their 9 to 5 jobs and becoming entrepreneurs. But how do you make that first step? Being an entrepreneur means finding what will work for your unique skill set. Aiming to gain income and profits as fast as possible and grow your entrepreneurship quickly from a one-person show to a substantial 6 or 7 figures company within a few years. In this episode, I bring you the stories about the first steps of the most successful of this new breed of entrepreneur. Who is the new kind of entrepreneur? John Lee Dumas (JLD) is the founder and host of the leading entrepreneurship podcast, Entrepreneurs on Fire, and is one of the founding fathers of this new age of entrepreneurship. John established his podcast after finding himself unhappy with traditional 9 to 5 jobs and frustrated with the weekly podcasts he listened to on the road because there wasn’t enough content. So, he decided to create a daily podcast for entrepreneurs. It quickly grew into a huge success and John, along with Kate Erickson, his partner, built a successful seven-figure business around the podcast. The new entrepreneurs are building businesses around their unique skills, and by doing so, are creating new market categories. They start from scratch, and unlike the earlier model of startup entrepreneurs, they are not looking to raise someone else’s money; instead, they build their businesses aiming to gain income and profit quickly. Bruce Van Horn’s entrepreneurial journey is an incredible story about the fresh start of a man who survived prostate cancer, the death of his daughter, a divorce, and 2 bankruptcies; and transformed his life, becoming a bestselling author, speaker, thought leader, transformational life coach, and business and leadership coach. I was in total victim mode in my life. I had a long list of everybody and everything that was responsible for what had gone wrong in my life. But I wasn’t on the list. Running a marathon changed me. I learned what was holding me back in my life. In marathon training, if you aren’t successful, the only one to blame is you. You can’t blame someone else. And I realized the top problem I had was a thinking problem. My brother, who got me into running marathons, said the hardest part of running a marathon is making the decision to do it. And he was right, but I misunderstood him. I thought i was a decision you made once. But actually, it’s a decision you have to make every single day. And when I realized how training transformed my body, I started to apply that philosophy to every area of my life, so my finances started to turn around after my second bankruptcy, my relationships got better; I started to enjoy my life again. People noticed I’ve changed and asked about it, and I told them. And one day I got an invitation to be someone’s life coach (I didn’t even know what that was at the time). It worked well and I discovered my gift: working with people on their mindsets about their businesses and their lives. . I’ve been doing it for six years now. I had to take a year off in 2014; I was diagnosed with stage 4 of prostate cancer, and the treatment and surgery had a lot of complications. I had to focus on recovery and my mindset. While I was focusing on my mindset, I realized we always get more of what we focus on. It’s all about what you believe you are capable of. And from that place, there are no obstacles. This is what I always tell the businesses I work with: you have to forget about competition and focus on creating your thing. Pascal Guyon lived in France and loved American music. He discovered MySpace and used it to communicate his skills. That led him to start producing music. However, the brilliant part was moving to the US and mastering social media. I love modern, popular music, however, I am French and all my heroes were in America. So, I thought, ‘I want to be there! How do I do that?’

Marc Guberti Show Notes Marc Guberti is a teenager entrepreneur, digital marketing expert, and author. He is the co-founder of Teenager Entrepreneur a movement that educates and empowers teens worldwide with the knowledge they need to become successful entrepreneurs. From Marc’s website, about me section: MY LIFE GOAL: Through my work, I will positively impact the lives of over 1 billion people within my lifetime. I will pave the way for more teens to embrace their dreams at an early age. My work will continue to positively impact the lives of others well beyond my time on our planet. Most passionate about One of the things I really love to do lately is interview people. I organized my Content Marketing Success Summit earlier in June. I’m also organizing my Productivity Virtual Summit from September 18th to 25th. The goal is to ultimately interview more than 365 people, because John Lee Dumas (JLD host Entrepreneur-On-Fire podcast) does that now, and I would really love to surpass that, because all the knowledge and all the fun of it are absolutely amazing. So, interviewing people is the big thing I’m doing right now, and I also creating a lot of content to my blog, so basically providing even more value to my audience. What is your next step? My future path will obviously be pursuing all of these things and also writing a book about everything I learned from the Content Marketing Success Summit that I organized, so I would say that basically where I’m heading is just a continuation of what I’m already doing. Your Company I view myself as a personal brand, which means everything goes under my name; it’s me providing value to business owners and anyone else who want to grow and concur with the digital landscape like get all the Twitter followers, Facebook lives etc. And also be super productive, so that they are getting all these results in the digital landscape and they are able to focus their time on the most important things. So, constantly providing that knowledge in forms of courses, books, and coaching, that’s the business model of my company. I keep the financial reports to myself. I come out with performance reports saying, these are the goals that I want to accomplish and then I track my journey each month, share with everyone what I learned, how I messed up, how I succeeded, so everyone keeps me accountable, which is part of my big goal to inspire other people to create bigger goals to themselves. I definitely see myself as a business; a personal brand and a business, in my eyes, is the same thing. Who your Customers are ? My customers consist of people who read the social media articles, who read the content about getting more blog content; they’re doing everything they can to grow their businesses online and to tap into that wire audience. That’s the focus of who I’m reaching out to, someone who is taking social media and blogging seriously and wants to get more results for their business. Assuming you have no customers at all and you’re wondering how exactly do I start, first look at your products and services and ask, what am I offering? What are the things that I want to focus on? And then it’s up to finding people who would want your product or service, which will mean going to social networks see who is interested in the topic of your product or service, so for a training course on Twitter, for instance, I’ll be looking for people who are sharing the Twitter marketing articles, who are engaging with other people who share Twitter marketing articles, I’d look for people who follow other people in my niche who provide similar information. Marc’s best advice about approaching the customer With the customer and a business, I feel that a lot of people see it as an exchange; the customer gets value and gives money; obviously you want to see it as you’re giving value to the customer. More in value than they will ever pay for. But you have...
