Are you ready to become an awakened man? One of the essential tools at your disposal is asking powerful questions. Questioning what you think you know and why is a powerful thing to do. Yet a couple of years afterward, Alain found himself again faced with his mental and emotional struggles. Alain shared that we are still stuck with ourselves no matter the wins we achieve. Until we spend time learning about ourselves and growing, self-doubt will follow us. I couldn't be more proud and honored to be joined by this week's guest! He asked if he could join me to share his story and how things have changed. Both within himself and his relationship with his dad, where there was a non-existent father/son relationship before. You may have guessed - yes, this is my son, Arthur Forrester. . You'll hear Arthur talk about how he tried to become invisible to avoid the authoritarian homelife. Then years later, he was faced with determining why he was still holding onto feelings from the past when the people and environment changed. We, as fathers, set the relationship dynamic with our children at a young age. Still, as they grow up, they're left to determine how to address their emotions and thoughts about their past. . I'm joined this week by Mark Savant, host of multiple podcasts, podcast production agency owner, a husband and father. We talk about how many people live for the weekend, looking forward to Friday and dreading Monday for that return to work. The unhappiness and fulfillment, scared of being replaced by someone younger who was coming for his job. Mark was able to replace that mindset and say thank God it's Monday as he discovered what he enjoyed and then focused on creating a business within that space. Mark shares how learning he would be a dad lit a fire under him, and the changes that came about from it. HIs desire to be a great dad then set him on a path to creating the Awesome Dad Podcast and community. Many of us have hit that crossroad, wondering what I would do if I didn't do this. Whether it comes from not feeling like you have any other options because of limited skills or because you believe you couldn't replace your income, it can leave you trapped. I'm excited to be joined by Danny Miranda. A writer, creator and fellow podcaster, he hosts The Danny Miranda Podcast. We talk about even coming from a childhood with good parents and grandparents he has struggled with depression and self-worth. We can face those challenges even from the best of situations, but he worked on himself to discover courage and confidence. Danny began an exercise of writing "I love myself" one hundred times each day. After only eight days into this practice, he had Gary Vaynerchuck share one of his stories on Instagram. More importantly, he became less concerned with rejection, felt less tied to other people's perspectives of him and was overall happier in his life. Sometimes as we hear these stories we'll say, but I could never believe it when I say I love myself. Join us to see how Danny first felt as be started this habit. Julian Sarafian was a high achiever, and from the outside, his life looked terrific. He graduated from Harvard Law and was a corporate lawyer. On the inside, though, things were very different. He struggled with gagging and stomach aches; even the doctors told him everything appeared fine. But, after tons of medical tests, he was no closer to an answer for these physical symptoms. As the pandemic continued, being isolated while working from home, without boundaries at work and the collective trauma, he found his anxiety morphing into depression and eventually into fleeting suicidal ideation. Enough was enough – he knew he had to address this for his own well-being and pursued looking into his own mental health. He got to the point of realizing it was either having his mental health continue to suffer or leaving his career. Julian stepped into the uncertain future, quitting his job for his mental health. He now advocates for mental health so others don't find themselves in the same situation. For many of us, being cruel to ourselves comes easy. We say or think mean and hurtful things, stuff we wouldn't consider saying to someone else, yet it's okay when it's directed at ourselves. So I would encourage you to be kind to yourself, say and think the things you wish someone would say to you and speak the encouraging and positive things you want to be true about us. While it won't change completely overnight, give it a try, so how you feel and if things around you change.
This week I'm joined by Robbie Harvey, a "former bad husband," as he calls himself, who now helps other men see their blind spots in how they're treating their wives. His desire to have men see that we can be cruel and insensitive in how we treat our wives when we're focused solely on ourselves. Like many of us, Robbie wasn't shown how to be a father, a husband, or a good man. His wife came into their marriage expecting to be divorced. A story with which many wives can easily relate. Robbie shares that he didn't see how hurtful he was being when he was a former bad husband. As he began to work on doing his best to become a better man, his eyes opened to the hurt he was causing his wife and the damage being inflicted upon his marriage. Robbie encourages us that it doesn't have to remain this way, that there is a better way and you can bring healing to your marriage. We can find ourselves who am I, what am I here for and what is life about? My guest this week faced those questions at a young age and chose the more challenging yet rewarding path of working through them. Christian de la Huerta immigrated to the US as a young child from Cuba. He and his family were ridiculed and ostracized while still living in Cuba for requesting their visa to leave. Upon arriving in Georgia, he stood out because he hadn't yet begun to speak English. As he learned English with a deep Southern accent, he found his family moving to Miami, where he was again left feeling out of place. . In our conversation, Christian talks about his journey of being an outsider, then finding himself within the inner circle, only to realize something was still off - something within him. For over 30 years now, Christian has been speaking, coaching and hosting retreats to help others claim their own healing. We also chat about breathwork, how our healing as men creates an environment for others to excel and how we have the power to change our legacy to one of healing and wholeness. . We have two choices - to remain where we are or to step forward into being a better you. Obviously staying where and how we are is the easier and more comfortable choice, at least at this moment. Yet, in the long run, it robs us of living and enjoying life, in the end, we're wracked by regret for playing small. Decide today to instead challenge yourself to be better, not to stay stuck in the rut of your current life. Flip the script, rise to the challenge and change your life! What we often forget is that this doesn't impact just our life, but also the lives of our children and grandchildren. You have the opportunity to be the man you've desired to become AND to give the gift of a better life to your family. Rusty Gaillard, an author & executive coach, joins me this week as we talk about how we can stand in our own way, impeding the progress that we so desperately desire. The great news is that it doesn't have to be this way. As Rusty shares his own story of becoming clear on his priorities, making the decision to step down as the director of finance at Apple to gain balance in his life. Rusty talks about not allowing fear to control our decisions and being comfortable in the discomfort our decisions and actions can create as we transition. He reflected on how things didn't go the best in making the role change, but he did the best with who he was at that time and his ability. That's all any of us should be looking for from ourselves. We will only grow from being stretched and that certainly won't always be done through perfect situations. This week I'm joined by Robert Muncaster. At 19 years old, Robert was in a severe car accident. One so intense that the doctors gave him only a 5% chance of surviving. A mere 6-months before the accident, he had begun absorbing personal development teachings. That accident became the catalyst to open his eyes to our limiting behaviors and thought processes. Robert shares about the punishment and reward system we learn from society, how it impacts our actions and thoughts. We also discussed how he realized that just as we can relive events from our past, we can also envision possibilities from the future life we desire. A different perspective is available to each of us, and Robert explains how we can begin to choose happiness instead of hopelessly chasing it. When we decide to bring about change in our life, there's one thing that helps us continue to persevere. It seems so simple and yet is powerful beyond what we expect. It's in knowing our why. Once you figure out your why, you will be able to draw strength when you encounter the struggles and opposition for a change. Often, the hurdles are events and situations in life, yet be prepared to have family and friends push against the changes you're making. As we change, begin to experience confidence and self-worth, it will create discomfort from those around us. Those who want to stay stuck in their ways. Identify your why and fix your focus on it; allow it to be what moves you forward. Connect with Mike Forrester https://linktr.ee/hicoachmike (https://linktr.ee/hicoachmike)
My phenomenal wife, Cathy Forrester, rejoins me this week to continue sharing our journey. Cathy's passion is to support children in their dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and executive functioning challenges and she is also a homeschool coach. Being married for 27 years, she is the mom of four adult children and two grandchildren. We continue to dive into the marital and family challenges we faced, work through and rebuild trust in our relationships. After our move to Kansas, the struggles we experienced drew us together and fostered new battles for both of us, individually and as a couple. In asking for help, we discovered our thoughts and beliefs impacted our personal and business life, we began to experience change. This provided newfound strength and energy to push deeper into our healing process. We discovered who we are and are married to, plus saw our family change in ways we had only hoped we possible before. We experienced transformation personally, in our marriage and as parents - things began to heal which had been broken. Growing up I wanted so badly for my father to say I believe in you, you can do it or you've got this. Anything positive would have been fantastic. I kept waiting even into my 20s and 30s. I finally realized he wasn't in a place to be able to offer those words or that encouragement. It was something I needed to release for myself - to start taking action and begin living my life. My friend, many of us are waiting, hoping for that tap on the shoulder by an older man, to call us into our manhood, recognize us as being a worthy man and direct us into a life of fulfillment. Stop waiting and start living - give yourself the permission to be the man you've desired to be for so long. Now is your time! This guest is one that I'm absolutely so excited to share with you! My amazing wife, Cathy Forrester, joins me this week. Cathy works with children with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and executive functioning deficits and is a homeschool coach. In addition, she's a mother to four adult children and two grandchildren. We talk about how our upbringing, beliefs and environments impacted us and our relationship. Add to those money problems, challenges of being new parents and communication differences...it was a perfect storm that saw us seeing divorce differently. This is the first of two parts and we end with having four children, being a young family and feeling like we might be finding our footing...just maybe. This week I'm joined by Troy Reeves. He is a Canadian ex-military registered nurse, who became a psychotherapist and life coach. We talk about reacting versus responding, our desire for grace or justice, and the power we have in making positive, healthy choices. Troy shares about the challenges he faced while guiding others through mental health challenges in the military. Most of us have been given advice and told what to do, Troy provided insight on the power that comes from understanding why – gaining understanding behind the actions we're told we should take. This week, I'm joined by Robert Riopel, who shares his experiences and insights on going from $150,000 in debt to becoming debt-free by 32 years old. He and his wife were daily working countless hours, excruciatingly long 7-day work weeks as managers of a pizza shop. They then became franchise owners of not only one but two locations. Yet for all their toil and hard work, it felt like they were only eking out a meager living financially, while other franchisees were living their best lives. From a self-improvement event, Robert found his life forever changed. Listen to hear why Robert and his wife even went to the event in the first place. Sometimes those seemingly inconsequential decisions can be pivotal moments, and this was just one of those times. Robert went on to his transformation; he began growing himself personally and then trained others to achieve their own life-change. Join us to hear Robert's story, how you can apply his learnings to your life and gain encouragement for the transformation that's available for you as well. My guest is Mike Chisholm - an author, host of the heCast podcast and a financial advisor. Mike shares how the guidance and mindset he was trained under didn't serve him well; it set him on a settling & safe path. In realizing the limitations of this belief system, he then set out to learn and grow into thriving instead of merely surviving. While many men may see the finish line in working a full day, Mike instead saw it as a starting line where he could begin building his family's wealth. Through heCast, both Mike and his wife Candace can advocate for and equip men in the wholeness of their mental health. This is a passion for both of them: to see men and women change from unhealthy patterns to abundance and well-being. Their intentional living and mindset prepared them for their granddaughter's unexpected experience of being diagnosed with cancer. The doctor confided this situation can wreck most families, regardless of the patient's progress. So they both set about to do their best to ensure the security of their marriage and solidify and strengthen the bonds within their son's family. The phenomenal news is that their granddaughter beat cancer and all families are intact after weathering the emotional storm from cancer. Mike and Candace's book showcases how we can experience the same situation, their granddaughter's cancer treatment, and yet have two different perspectives. The realization and acknowledgment create a space to fortify your marriage and relationships. I'm excited to be joined this week by Ryan Phillips. Ryan is a health and wellness apparel business owner, mental health advocate, TedX speaker, and former professional hockey player. He's very open about his journey, of the challenges he faced and the struggles he overcame. While we can look at professional athletes and dream of their fame and fortune, we don't usually consider the abuse they experience - the mental, emotional and physical trauma from various people and situations. On his path, Ryan was arrested for transporting and distributing marijuana. It wasn't just the incarceration that he faced; there were also dangers within the lifestyle of being a dealer. But, one morning, Ryan woke up and walked away from it all, wanting something more for himself, knowing that he was meant for and capable of more in his life. He did and continues to invest in himself, sharing the ups and downs, encouraging others who might remain on the sidelines, not asking for the help they so desperately need. Ryan has ridden across Asia and Canada, being the voice for those who need help and are silent for trafficking and mental health awareness. Join us to hear how Ryan continues to move forward in helping others grow and heal. I'm joined by Corey Hilton, a Canadian author and introspective influencer on self-worth, in this episode. Like many of us, he struggled with self-worth from childhood experiences that left him with feelings of rejection and abandonment. Yet, as a young adult, he found himself invited into the world of exotic male dancing. You, like me, might be wondering how does a guy with these emotional challenges find himself revealing it all. Corey shares how he created a persona to carry him through the performances. Not surprisingly, Corey found himself years later discovering the struggle of his two polar opposite personalities. It's not unlike the challenge we can face in our own lives, acting confidently at work while failing in our marriage and parenting. Yet, through Corey's journey, he was able to shed the layers he'd built over the years, to lay his soul bare and discover who he truly is, not just who others have told him he was. In our conversation, Corey opens up on how he's made courageous decisions and actions to delve further into what is true and shed the false stories he's believed about himself and life. This week I'm joined by Ken Hannaman. He reveals how he successfully leads himself and leads others for over 700 restaurant locations as a restaurant executive. This despite the naysayers when he dropped out of high school and chose to work in restaurants. Others said he was selling himself short; he decided to transform his thinking and beliefs to soar to success. In addition, he shares how he overcame the harmful patterns he was taught in his early years to now have a happy and healthy marriage and life overall. Ken shares his development journey, living openly and honestly with himself and his wife. He was also genuine with his employer. Ken didn't make it an "either-or" situation; he lived his life with a "both" mindset. Ken shares how his transformation has involved self-improvement and reflective work, being true to himself and open to the input from mentors and coaches. There was a lot to unpack and tank through with Sagi Shrieber ( @sagishrieber ), so we're back for the second of two episodes. Sagi is a father of three, owns three companies and is passionate about helping entrepreneurial dads attain the life they desire. He started his career in user interface design at Fiverr, founded an Israeli design blog and co-founded a design company. Unfortunately, while things were moving forward, he was confronted with financial issues with a young family. Sagi was desperate for things to improve; the struggle was real. He was asking for input from those around him. Yet, he was still faced with the stress and severity of his business and financial situation. He chose to take a step of faith, going beyond his comfort zone and experience to work with a coach. That decision and the actions he took afterward made ALL the difference. Things weren't easy for Sagi, he was working as hard as ever, but he was crystal clear on his direction and goal. Join us as Sagi shares how he found the success he longed for and is now focused on helping other fathers attain the life they desire at home and work. Yes, having success in both areas of life is possible, not only for Sagi - but it's also there for you and me. I sit down with my friend Sagi Shrieber for the first of two episodes. Sagi is a father of three, owns three companies and is passionate about helping entrepreneurial dads attain the life they desire. He started his career in user interface design at Fiverr, founded an Israeli design blog and co-founded a design company. While things were moving forward he was confronted with financial issues with a young family. As a last-ditch effort to escape from the debt he had staring him down, Sagi engaged with a coach to help him overcome the business struggles he was facing. What seemed insurmountable in the moment he was able to conquer in a very short timeframe. He was sold out and had clarity of vision for his business and life. Sagi continued to stack the favor in his odds by doing what seemed counterintuitive - he focused on his health and wellbeing. This week I'm joined by Erik Cabral, who shares his journey and insights on how he has found happiness in life, where he had been miserable. For over 20 years, he worked in corporate, found himself addicted to the comfort created by a weekly salary. Despite that comfort, Erik wanted more in his life, to feel worthy, confident and to know satisfaction in his work. He worked with his wife to be able to leave corporate. He chose to burn the boats to create an elevated motivation for himself...it worked. He succeeded in real estate and then into podcast entrepreneurship. Has it been an easy road? Is Erik an overnight success? Not all! Erik talks about how our own journey in self improvement benefits us and those around us. Perfectionism is an excuse that many of us use for not completing a task or project. We will say it's not good enough, so we continue to work on it, or move onto another project instead of completing the one we've already begun. Perfectionism will cause us to procrastinate, waste time working on the same task, delays improvement and creates senseless anxiety and stress. Mistakes are normal, to be expected and help the improvement process. We can use a deadline to limit our time wasted and never finish a task. Comparison is a component of perfectionism that keeps us bound from progress. Honestly, who do you know who is perfect? Persuing great quality is fantastic, but hiding behind the excuse of perfectionism isn't beneficial to you or others. Ask for help or input, it can aid in moving things forward as well. The root question to ask is, am I hiding behind perfectionism for fear of something? Are you afraid of others' reactions? Are you fearful that it might be a failure, and then categorize you as a failure too? What is really going on behind the scenes? Delve into it with honesty, yet also give yourself grace and compassion. Start taking action, completing what you begin and living your best life! Rennie Gabriel shares his insights on how you can create wealth at any age. As a financial planner at the age of 50, he found himself flat broke after a second divorce and a business failure. From this place, many would have resigned themselves to this lot in life. But, instead, Rennie focused on learning how the wealthy had created theirs and set about doing the same. He's now created that legacy and is helping others obtain it for themselves. To create our own wealth, we need to know where we currently are financially. Then to change your financial habits so you're investing for yourself first. Rennie didn't stop with achieving his financial goals; he also was determined to donate to charity. One, in particular, Shelter to Soldier, helps veterans through rescue dogs. Join me as Rennie shares his journey, mistakes and successes, and insights for you and me in creating our own wealth. Let's spend some time moving you closer to your personal and professional goals. Making forward progress rather than being overwhelmed by the tasks we're supposed to complete and frustrated as there's not enough time in our day to do them all. Through just three straightforward steps, you can streamline and simplify the process of creating your priorities list. First, write EVERYTHING down - all the tasks you have swirling around in your head, either on paper or an app. Next, determine if each task is urgent, important or both urgent & important. Third and lastly, rank the tasks within each of the four urgent/important status squares. The urgent and important tasks should be very few, although they're essential to focus on now. Those tasks which are important but not urgent can be scheduled. Things that are urgent but not important can be delegated as we don't have to be the person completing them. Tasks being neither urgent nor important can be postponed. I had a number of men ask for this information to be put together in a document. This should make it easier to perform your brain dump, categorize each task and then rank those tasks. The Priorities List Handbook is available to you at this https://www.dropbox.com/s/uopqw7vllf73qlw/LFTP_PrioritiesList_Handbook.pdf?dl=0 (link). You're going to encounter struggles; it's a when not if factor. But, to remain consistent and persist, you need to know your why to carry you through tough times. This week, Dr. Anthony Balduzzi, founder of the Fit Father Project and Fit Mother Project programs, joins me. He shares how the loss of his father at a younger age was the catalyst for his passion in life. His programs focus on helping moms and dads in their 40s, 50s, 60s and above to reclaim their health. At 9 years old, Anthony's father passed away, he stepped into his dad's shoes to become the man of the house. This wasn't the only transformational phase of Anthony's life. He broke his arm and leg in a skiing accident, which allowed him to look inward and discover compassion and embrace others from a heartfelt perspective. He shares the difference between pain and suffering, how you and I can live life in this present moment to avoid suffering. My friend Jay Twining sat down with me this week to talk about how he's leaving behind generational differences through intentional living. He assessed his parents' life and behaviors to determine what he did and didn't want to continue in his own life, something we can overlook and inadvertently subject and pass along to our children. You'll hear how the possibilities people shared impacted and shaped his thinking. Yet, he wasn't solely reliant upon them, taking action to direct his path. For example, deciding if he wanted to remain within the video game industry or struggling to find his new career was viable and worth the desire to be present as a husband and dad. Jay encourages you and me to dream unreasonably, extend courage for ourselves in seeing who we want to become, take the adventurous route, and play it big. That life is like a horse, running by us and we have the opportunity to grab the reins and direct it where we want. Hear how Jay has taken responsibility in his life for himself and for his family to be intentional, living a fully aligned life that exudes integrity and joy. This week I'm joined by Josh Cary as we talk about how he spent 40 years in hiding because of fear. His two children became the catalyst for breaking free and pursuing a different way of life. You wouldn't guess it by talking to Josh today as he's fully engaged in life, energized and showing up as his best version. Josh is a business coach, podcast host, speaker and entrepreneur. We discuss how Josh struggled with worrying about what others thought of him while searching for their approval and permission. Josh shares how he discovered in focusing on who he was, instead of fearing the negative feedback of others he didn't attract or experience that environment. Josh worked with a coach to ensure there was someone to encourage him towards his life transformation and as a backup if he had received pushback from family or friends. Josh doesn't leave his life to chance; he takes ownership of his thoughts, actions and speech to ensure each moment is one he is proud of.
