"You're not going to be replaced by an AI; you're going to be replaced by someone using AI." But there's a layer above that too: what happens when AI is using AI? In this episode of Marketing Speak, I welcomed back serial entrepreneur David Henzel, of MaxCDN, LTVPlus, and now Context Engine, to talk about what it actually looks like to run an "AI-first" company from the inside. This isn't a theory. David's businesses have already cut ten-person QA teams down to two doing a better job, and he walks through exactly how. What we got into: ➡️ Why middle management may be the first real casualty of the AI shift ➡️ How to build a "company brain" that keeps every decision, call, and conversation in one place ➡️ Why David refuses to rely on just one AI vendor, and what that protects you from ➡️ What it really means to go "AI-first" instead of just "AI-enabled" ➡️ How documenting your business could make it more valuable if you ever sell it ➡️ David's free offer: a Context Engine workshop and a year's license for three lucky listeners If you've been wondering how to actually operationalize AI in your business instead of just using it as a faster search bar, this conversation will give you a real blueprint. The show notes, including the transcript and checklist to this episode, are at marketingspeak.com/550.

We also go into why transparency is an essential part of a cohort or group coaching experience, how group coaching can bring people together, and why having a system to help make that easier only elevates the experience for everyone that's involved. Finally, David shares the one thing that can radically shift the engagement in the completion of any cohort or group coaching program. Enjoy the episode!*The upcoach podcast is produced by Ventures FM.*Episode Quotes:What does the Managing Happiness program do?We help people to figure out their personal mission, vision and values, and their goals. It's basically applying business principles to your personal life. Why did you build this program? My wife went through breast cancer. She's doing great today, but this was a bigger wake-up moment for me. I basically envisioned myself on my deathbed, looking back at my life, thinking, did I do what I was supposed to do? Did I have the impact that I want to have? To live the life that I personally consider a life well-lived? Back then, I was highly focused on just for-profit business, and I realized that I want to have more impact in the world. And this was a long road to figuring out what it really is that I want to do. Parting thoughts for coaches or coaching businesses that are listeningDo cohort-based coaching—you can impact more people's lives. It's not that reliant on you. You can even make more money. Make it more accessible because it's cheaper for people, but you make more money in the long run. And just building communities. And it's more about the human experience. Everything is AI. Everything will be not human anymore. So, I think bringing people together is just a beautiful thing. Hence, cohort-based coaching.Show Links:David Henzel websiteDavid Henzel on LinkedInDavid Henzel on FacebookDavid Henzel on TwitterDavid Henzel on InstagramManaging Happinessupcoach

If you change the way you look at things, for example, my mother passed away 10 years ago and she was an amazing person. Not because she was my mom, but because she was really an outstanding, phenomenal person. And if I look at it from the standpoint like, ‘oh, poor me, I don't have her anymore. She would be retired by now living in our other house here on the property. Our daughter would learn so much from her, suck so much. She's not there'. Then I'd drag myself down versus if I turned around and see it from a place of gratitude. I had this amazing person in my life that I learned so much from. I'm so grateful that I had her, it's unbelievable how lucky I consider myself that I had this amazing person in my life. Then it just completely changed the story.” – David (48:10) Our Guest David Henzel is a veteran entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience building successful companies. Love Not Fear As A Core Value For Business Our guest on the podcast this week is David Henzel, CEO of Upcoach and a veteran entrepreneur who has been building in the SAAS and e-com space for over 20 years. He has had multiple successful exits, including MaxCDN. Aside from Upcoach (which just happens to be my favorite coaching platform), he has a small portfolio of companies including LTV plus, (Outsourcing for e-commerce & SAAS), TaskDrive (Sales Development), Shortlist.io (Digital Marketing Agency), and his passion project Managing Happiness (Peak Performance Group Coaching for entrepreneurs). And as you will hear us talk about today, his latest idea of bringing love not fear to the marketplace to empower us all to remember what matters most. David's passion that runs through all his enterprises is the intention to help individuals and their organizations reach their full potential. Today David shares aspects of his life that have shaped his approach to business, from growing up with Shambhala Buddhism and Catholicism to converting to Islam after marrying his wife, and then practicing spirituality in Los Angeles as he began his tech startup. He also speaks to the personal traumas that became pivot points of reflection for what mattered most to him, shifting his perspective and guiding him on different paths. Listen in as David shares the personal stories of how his mantra of love, not fear has inspired so many people in his world helping them to feel empowered and building a culture of love, deeply embedding this powerful energy within the cultures of his companies. It may be a bumper sticker slogan, but it is profound in its simplicity which might just allow David to help us all to remember that sometimes the most profound changes are small, yet if enough of us engage then the ripple effect can be what changes the world. So incredibly inspiring! If you are an entrepreneur or a business leader interested in building a business as a force for good, then I encourage you to listen to this deeply human dialogue for insights. I suspect you'll enjoy David's energy and perspective on how you too can make the most of your potential. I get the sense you'll enjoy this conversation as much as I did. Key Takeaways David's exposure to multiple religious practices and how this has shaped his life How to navigate difficult traumas in your life What to do when you feel constrained by your emotions Making decisions from love not fear, and the personal stories of why this is so important for us all How to position your business for amazing impact Memorable Quote “I'm personally not a fan of non-profit organizations. Non-profits feel like a car without an engine that somebody else has to push. It's the golden rule of life: treat others the way you want to be treated. As sales professionals, you do this by playing the long game, building relationships rather than focusing on the sale. In today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald interviews David Henzel to learn David's approach and strategy to being customer-centric in modern selling.  What does it mean to be customer-centric? In essence, a customer-centric salesperson sets customers up for success.  It's helping your customers succeed (or positioning them to be successful) instead of worrying purely about making a sale. Selling out of fear only provides mediocre results. If you sell to make a commission, the customer's problem might not be solved, and they might not want to be your advocate as readily. A happy customer tells their friend, but an unhappy customer tells the world. To close customer success gaps, you can either write copy on your website to inform potential buyers (as a facet of content marketing) or partner with a sales coach to teach proper outbound messaging. To understand your client's needs, you must play the long game.  Don't give the customer what you think they want; find out what they need and give them that. You'll naturally get referrals if you sell what the customer needs instead of what you want them to need. People won't typically brag about a platform or service they use, but they will brag about material things.  Try giving gifts to your clients to generate more referrals and word-of-mouth marketing. The key, however, is to give stuff people will use. Otherwise, it'll end up in someone's closet (or trash can.) If your rapport with the customer is strong enough, simply ask! David's major piece of advice: act out of love, not fear. It'll change not just your professional relationships but your personal ones as well. For more great content from David, check out his podcast  How We Solve. What You'll Learn From This Episode: Providing an efficient group coaching The advantage of using 'upcoach' Importance of selling out of love Related Links and Resources: I would like to give 6 months of FREE upcoach; so, if you email me at david@upcoach.com then I will hook you up with a coupon code where you can get 250 USD which will be enough to last for 6 months. Summary: David Henzel has been building businesses in the saas and ecom space for over 20 years. He had multiple successful exits, including a well-known content delivery network company MaxCDN. He's passion is helping individuals and their organizations reach their full potential. Latest passion project that David is involved with is upcoach - coaching delivery platform, and a portfolio of businesses under How We Solve umbrella: LTVplus, (Outsourcing for e-commerce & saas), TaskDrive (Sales Development), Shortlist.io (Digital Marketing Agency). Here are the highlights of this episode: David says he works with several people with all sorts of background; whether they are authors, business leaders, and so forth. Some of the several problems, and one of them is how to run an efficient group coaching or how to make more impact while coaching multiple people all in one. When he started focusing on group coaching, he attained 94% completion rate in comparison to his previous DIY online course of 7% only. David says that some of them lack the confidence of selling their services. Using his upcoach can help you systematizes all your teachings. He knows that selling is difficult if it's not selling out of love. The biggest epiphany in David's life is that he used to be introverted and he hated doing sales with a passion. He attended toastmasters, public speaking courses, etc. to really overcome this exposure therapy. It worked, but the advice of his yoga teacher that decision making is either made out of fear or out of love is something that really flipped the switch in his head. When David sells out of love, he knows that what he's offering would be good for your business, he sincerely wants to improve your life. If he sells out of fear, he sells because he just needs to get his numbers, which can be difficult.  David's Valuable Free Action (VFA): Start doing a group coaching and it can simply start by sending to your list, or even reach out to your friends. Start developing content. Doesn't need to be perfect, just get started with a beta group either for free or minimal price. Just keep rolling, don't hold back.

Socializing is important, meaningful work is important, relaxing is important, working out is important, exposing yourself to new people and new ideas is important, but spending all of your time on any one of those things can lead to feeling burnt out, eventual boredom, loneliness, and any number of dire physical ailments stemming from not having a well-rounded healthy lifestyle.Follow your passion and do what you love, but don't let the rest of your life fall by the wayside.A Word From Our SponsorsShare your vulnerabilities, victories, and questions in our 17,000-member private Facebook group at theartofcharm.com/challenge. The Founder of MaxCDN Explains Why He Sold a Rapidly Growing Business

The Quiet Light Podcast

David Henzel is the founder of MaxCDN a content delivery network that is behind many WordPress sites. The business was doing really well and things were moving along and growing when David found out that his wife had cancer. This was an earth shattering moment for David and forced him to take a step back and reevaluate his priorities. He knew it was time to sell the business. David is a serial entrepreneur who has built and sold businesses. He is also extremely proud of how he has achieved work life balance and promotes family time. He is also the host of the Managing Happiness Podcast. Today, one of the things we're going to talk about is reasons why people sell their businesses. Sometimes people don't even know why they are selling, but they know it's the right thing to do. For David, the reasons were pretty obvious. We discuss reasons to sell, the selling process, and what to do when life gets turned on its head. Episode Highlights: Planning and having everything in order with your business relieves a lot of pressure if and when you need to sell. MaxCDN had over 15,000 customers and was integrated on over 6 million websites. David knew he wanted to create a larger impact on the world and decided to sell the company. Motivations for selling businesses usually tend to be quite personal. David had received other offers to buy his business, but when his wife's illness was diagnosed he knew it was time to do something more in line with his life's calling. The selling process was quite involved and distracted him from the day-to-day business. It's a lot of work to sell a business. David wanted to find something where he could offer more value to the world. He created a course to apply business principles to family life. He also has an outsourcing business and he mentors other business people. David is an entrepreneur and is still drawn to business and business principles. Because of the resources and knowledge that David had it was easy to start a new business. Entrepreneurs see opportunity everywhere. How the needs of a buyer are often different than the needs of the business owner. When you start a business make sure you spend money on a lawyer. It's so much easier to have a custom tailored operating agreement for your business. David spends time making sure that processes are in place, so he can work on the business and not in the business.
