When my own path took an unexpected turn, leaving the structured serenity of monastic life for the corporate hustle, the lessons of ancient scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramayana proved to be an unexpected guide. Alongside my friends Nāma and Keli Woods, we share a heartfelt conversation about the inner workings of spiritual growth amidst life's setbacks. We dissect the concept of 'falling upwards'—the idea that our greatest challenges can lead to even greater evolution of the soul. Our discussion reveals how an easy life may not always benefit our spiritual development, and we contemplate the importance of sincerity and perseverance in one's spiritual practice, diving into the Gita's wisdom to uncover the sanctity in steadfastness. Navigating through personal narratives and timeless teachings, we explore the delicate balance between humility and assertiveness, and the profound impact of support from a like-minded spiritual community. The conversation takes a deeper turn as we discuss recognizing divine guidance and the power to elevate others through our own experiences, affirming that our challenges do not define us, but rather, can be the very means through which we serve. My transformation from monk to corporate professional unveils the unexpected parallels between ancient wisdom and modern leadership, driving home the message that the true rewards of life often lie in the lessons gleaned from our most daunting obstacles. Join us as we uncover the humility required to accept our limitations, and the unbelievable strength we gain when we rely on something much greater than ourselves. When complex topics come up, thought leaders typically have a list of usual suspects we can turn to for information. However, by continually going to these same sources you might become repetitive and miss out on new and important perspectives. To explore why these old habits can be detrimental and how we can overcome our presets I've invited Watchen Nyanue Hampton to join me. Watchen is the Founder and CEO of I Choose the Ladder, a boutique consulting firm in Chicago that does work at the intersection of talent culture and strategy. Watchen starts us off by discussing how our defaults could be drowning out other voices and perspectives that could potentially be advantageous to your business. Further, she shares how breaking that cycle can only happen with conscious and thoughtful effort. Finding new voices that want to step into the spotlight can be difficult. Watchen explains how finding them can only happen by getting to know people as people, by humanizing the way we interact with others in our personal and professional spaces. Asking questions and being genuinely interested in others can help them feel seen and heard, which will have a massive impact on how they work and the pride they feel. Watchen shows how elevating others in thought leadership and using your own power to share the spotlight can be good for retention, succession planning, and reaching wider audiences through wider conversations that you otherwise might never have been aware of. Three Key Takeaways: · If you are in a leadership role it is your job to know the people who you are leading. · Be intentional about the way you craft your life and your career. Always know that you have a choice. · If you are not part of the community and are aware of the conversations that are going on, you are never going to think about engaging them.
In this episode of Flourish or Fold, I'm honored to welcome manifestation coach and author Kathleen Cameron. Join us as we talk about her transformation from a nurse to a world-traveling empowerment figure through unwavering faith and manifestation principles. Kathleen shares her journey, emphasizing the importance of profound faith, detachment from outcomes, and surrendering to the universe. The Genesis of a Manifested Life: Kathleen's story is nothing short of inspirational. In September of 2019, she made a pivotal decision to transform her life. As a registered nurse, she was well-acquainted with the healthcare world, but she yearned for something more. Kathleen embarked on a personal experiment, applying the principles of manifestation to her own life. The results were staggering. She transitioned from her nursing career to a life where she travels the world, empowers individuals, and enjoys the luxury she once only dreamed of. Her secret? Unwavering faith and the application of spiritual teachings. The Role of Faith in Manifestation: During our conversation, Kathleen emphasized the significance of faith. She shared how her understanding of spirituality evolved, leading her to recognize a higher power at play. This profound faith became the cornerstone of her manifestation practice, allowing her to transmute her energy into her desires. Kathleen encourages everyone to find their own resonance with a higher power, as this personal connection is crucial to the manifestation process.Cultivating Faith in the Unseen: For those skeptical or new to the concept of manifestation, Kathleen offers a compelling perspective. Faith, she explains, is about believing in the unseen. It's about trusting in the same way we trust gravity or the arrival of a package. Manifestation is about becoming aware of what already exists in the realm of possibility. If you can imagine it, it's within your reach. This belief in the unseen is the bedrock of faith that can lead to tangible results.Detachment and Surrender: The Art of Letting Go: One of the most challenging aspects of manifestation is the desire to control outcomes. Kathleen speaks to the power of detachment and surrender. It's not about needing our desires to materialize; it's about asking for what we want and then allowing the universe to work its magic. This surrender is not a sign of weakness but a profound strength that aligns us with the energy of abundance and prosperity.Personal Growth and Evolving Relationships: Kathleen's journey of manifestation has also deeply impacted her relationships. As she grew in consciousness, her reliance on others for decision-making diminished. She found empowerment from within, which led to the evolution of her friendships, marriage, and other connections. Some relationships flourished, while others naturally faded. Kathleen reflects on the beauty of learning from every relationship and the importance of leading with love and unconditional love for others."The Best of Yourself" and Manifest Toronto: Kathleen's new book, "The Best of Yourself," is a testament to her transformational journey. It's designed to help readers realize their true potential and empower them to embody the best version of themselves daily. Her vision is to guide individuals towards self-love, confidence, and a positive impact on the world. At her recent in-person event, "Manifest Toronto," Kathleen created a space for community, love, and empowerment. She expresses gratitude for the opportunity to serve others and the reciprocal growth that comes from elevating those around her.Debunking Manifestation Myths: Kathleen addresses the misconception that manifestation is separate from spirituality or a higher power. She firmly believes that manifestation is a divine tool and cannot be done without tapping into the energy of the universe or God. She also critiques the "fake it till you make it" approach, advocating for alignment with the energy of one's desires to truly manifest them.My conversation with Kathleen Cameron was a deep dive into the interconnectedness of manifestation, personal growth, and spirituality. Her insights remind us that with profound faith, detachment, and surrender, we can all manifest the life we envision for ourselves. I hope this glimpse into our discussion has inspired you to explore the power of manifestation in your own life. Remember, it's not just about the destination but the journey of growth and resilience that shapes us.Until next time, keep flourishing! To learn more about Kathleen visit: https://kathleencameronofficial.com and on Instagram: @kathleencameronmanifestsHere are some highlights of the episode to look forward to:Kathleen's journey to manifestation (00:01:13): Kathleen discusses her inspirational journey from a registered nurse to a manifestation coach, emphasizing the power of faith and spiritual teachings.Kathleen's personal manifestation journey (00:03:06): Kathleen shares her personal journey of manifesting and creating the life she loves, emphasizing the role of faith and personal transformation. The role of faith in manifestation (00:05:40): Kathleen discusses the transformation in her belief system, from initially believing in the universe to developing profound faith and the impact of faith on manifestation.Understanding and cultivating faith (00:07:05): The discussion delves into the process of understanding and cultivating faith, exploring the concept of a higher power and the impact of faith on personal growth and manifestation.Manifestation and the power of imagination (00:11:24): Kathleen explains the role of faith in creating something not yet experienced, emphasizing the power of imagination and belief in manifesting desires.Challenges in manifestation and detachment (00:14:31): The conversation explores challenges in manifestation, the impact of energy and belief systems on outcomes, and the significance of detachment in the manifestation process.Impact of personal transformation on relationships (00:25:21): The segment explores the impact of personal growth and manifestation journey on relationships, including evolving friendships, changes in dynamics, and the influence of others on personal transformation.Relationship Evolution (00:25:42): Kathleen discusses how her relationships have evolved and shifted due to her personal growth and consciousness.Positive Manifestation (00:26:46): Kathleen shares her perspective on relationships, conflict resolution, and her evolving understanding of manifestation.Manifestation without Time (00:33:29): Kathleen shares her perspective on time and urgency in setting goals for manifestation.New Book: The Best of Yourself (00:34:59): Kathleen introduces her new book and discusses its focus on personal growth and self-realization.Elevating Others (00:42:25): Kathleen discusses the reciprocal nature of growth through serving and elevating others.Manifestation and God (00:43:12): Kathleen addresses the misconception that manifestation is separate from spirituality and explains her belief in manifestation with a higher power.Practicing Being (00:44:50): Kathleen emphasizes the shift from "fake it till you make it" to "practicing being" in the context of personal growth and manifestation.Abundance Journal (00:48:54): I share my practice of keeping an abundance journal, inspired by Kathleen's teachings on manifestation and my unexpected financial gains.Manifestation Success Story (00:53:06): Kathleen shares a success story of a community member who manifested financial abundance and success.Thinking Big (00:55:12): Kathleen encourages listeners to think beyond their current limitations and dream of an extraordinary life.

This sermon was preached by Justin Rogers on April 24, 2023 is part 6 of the series through Colossians. What does it mean to be a Christian? A lot of people think it's a mere intellectual agreement that you agree with 'these' statements. But you can agree with something and not act on it. You can agree and, yet, your life testify against you that you actually believe it. We can agree that exercising is healthy for us. But if you don't ever exercise and your body deteriorates, did you actually believe it? Following Jesus does require agreement with doctrine, but it also involves patterning our lives, taking action, in a tangible way. Following Jesus impacts our relationships, our dispositions, our ability to handle difficult situations, and it calls us to higher purpose in life. Following Jesus elevates others above ourselves.

I'm excited to be joined this week by Ryan Phillips. Ryan is a health and wellness apparel business owner, mental health advocate, TedX speaker, and former professional hockey player. He's very open about his journey, of the challenges he faced and the struggles he overcame. While we can look at professional athletes and dream of their fame and fortune, we don't usually consider the abuse they experience - the mental, emotional and physical trauma from various people and situations. On his path, Ryan was arrested for transporting and distributing marijuana. It wasn't just the incarceration that he faced; there were also dangers within the lifestyle of being a dealer. But, one morning, Ryan woke up and walked away from it all, wanting something more for himself, knowing that he was meant for and capable of more in his life. He did and continues to invest in himself, sharing the ups and downs, encouraging others who might remain on the sidelines, not asking for the help they so desperately need. Ryan has ridden across Asia and Canada, being the voice for those who need help and are silent for trafficking and mental health awareness. "Hey, That's My Seat!" Ugh. Don't you just dread looking up at a stranger at hearing those words, "Hey, that's my seat." It's inhospitable in church, embarrassing at banquets, and can be very awkward at the beginning of a three hour flight. But, Jesus sees these situations as opportunities to build our character and grow the kingdom in his teaching in Luke 14, so let's dive into what Jesus had to say about compassion, humility, hospitality and our seating charts.
John Eades is the CEO of LearnLoft, a leadership development company that transforms managers into leaders. In 2017 he was named a LinkedIn Top Voice in Management and Workplace. He is also a renowned speaker and host of the Follow My Lead podcast. He joins Marcel Schwantes on this week’s show to talk about his new book, Building the Best: Eight Proven Leadership Principles to Elevate Others to Success, and to equip you with the tools you need to become the kind of leader the world needs today. John describes his book as a collection of stories, principles and best practices to help elevate the way you lead. He specifically included tools in the book to help readers apply the principles in their daily leadership practice. [4:23] Marcel cites a line from John’s book: “The most effective leaders who elevate others, lead with high levels of love and discipline.” John defines love as ‘to contribute to someone’s long-term success and wellbeing.’ But there also needs to be discipline. Discipline, in this case, means to promote standards so that those we lead can choose to be at their best. [5:16] John has created an assessment tool to measure both love and discipline. He cites statistics from his research that proves that leaders who use high levels of love and discipline get better business results. [7:37] If as a leader you only look at results, John says, your people will start to cut corners to get the results you want. Instead, you should focus on the daily behaviors and habits that live out your core values. The more your employees buy into your values, the more you will see the desired results. [12:52] John lists the five leadership styles in his book. The top-level leadership style is called Elevate, which entails high levels of love and discipline. He says that you can put this type of leader in any company and they will elevate others. The performance will also elevate. [14:00] Leadership is a journey. We can all develop our skills and become better leaders. [15:58] Once we set high standards we have to hold ourselves and others accountable. John comments that we shouldn’t look at accountability as negative; it also means that giving praise and recognition when standards are exceeded. [17:44] Marcel asks John to share one love competency. John chooses trust because there is no effective leadership without mutual trust. He quotes an old saying, “Rules without relationship lead to rebellion.” You build trust by putting competence and care at the center of your relationships. It takes time though, so you have to be willing to put in the effort. [19:41] John says that it’s a leader’s responsibility to understand the purpose behind the work and communicate that purpose to the team repeatedly. When work is tied to purpose, employees are more engaged and less likely to leave. [23:51] “What are the core responsibilities of a modern leader?” Marcel asks. John responds that a true leader elevates others by inspiring, empowering and serving them. He defines what each of these words mean for a leader. His definition of ‘inspire’ in particular, resonates with Marcel. [25:47] John explains why leading with fear is still so rampant in the workplace. Leaders need to combat fear by choosing to be courageous, he says. [31:16] Marcel comments that great leaders surround themselves with a team of mentors. John names several of his mentors and points out that you have to seek out people who you want to learn and grow from. He wants listeners to actively seek out good mentors because they add so much value. [33:57] John wants you to know that the most faithful wins. He encourages you to do your best wherever you are to elevate others, and don’t give up. In due time you will be rewarded. We talk to Nima Khanghahi about BUILDING YOUR BRAND AND INFLUENCE. Nima is just getting started on his new career path of speaking and influencing, he has been a sales coach and trainer... and, I personally think he is a natural at it and has a bright future ahead of him. “As soon as we start moving in the direction we want to, doors open…” - Nima Khanghahi Nima believes in three core principles when it comes to building your brand and influence; Showing Up, Documenting Versus Creating and Elevating Others. When I saw Nima present these principles to a room of at least 50 people and saw his very interactive style, I knew I needed to have him on the show. He has a way of engaging with people in a meaningful way, whether is one on one, or a large group of people. His first principle of Showing Up, is something I believe in and is one of the first pieces of advices I give to people for just about everything. When we talk about showing up, we are talking about something you do in a consistent and intentional way. You are present, you are giving your full attention. Just by showing up you will often uncover new opportunities and be ahead of your competition. As an example of showing up, I went to an event the other day that had hundreds of top business folks in the local area. This is my ideal audience. These are the type of people I work with and need to build long lasting partnerships with. Let me break down what showing up meant to me in this case: I showed up early. I was there before the big crowd, I could make some early new friends before the mad rush started. I scoped out the place for friendly faces. I looked for faces I wanted to meet, and I made several introductions. I was introduced to several new contacts, some of which I have met with again since then. I showed up with intent and a focus. I knew why I was there and what I wanted to accomplish. I set goals in my head and made sure I accomplished those goals. I didn’t waste time doing things that didn’t accomplish those goals. I had a positive attitude. If you go into a situation like this and treat it like a complete beat down, people will catch on to that vibe. If you go in with a positive attitude, people will react much more positively to you. I closed the deal. I stayed afterwards until I checked off a few more goals. I met the keynote speaker and a couple of award nominee’s and winners. I met several new faces that were on my list. But, more than anything, this action created more opportunities, because people introduced me to other people that I will do business with in the future. Maybe I will help them, maybe they will help me. I did see a couple of people I know there that were obviously struggling to get out there and meet people. Hiding in a dark corner of the room, frozen by that voice telling them all the excuses of why they shouldn’t be there. Remember that action begets more action, getting out there leads to opportunities that you would otherwise never get. The second core principle Nima talks about is Documenting Versus Creating. The idea here is that we have so many excuses, we ended convincing ourselves to never start. We end up never starting on our journey or doing that thing that will take us to the next level. As soon as you start thinking of what you must do to create something new, your brain freaks out and starts putting up all sorts of road blocks. Instead of saying, “I am going to CREATE my own podcast.” You say, “I am going to DOCUMENT my thoughts and message on the web.” Just changing the word from CREATE to DOCUMENT, your brain will put up less defense and you are more likely to get started. My very first episode was me telling myself something very similar. I started a podcast in less than week after I decided to do it. If I listen to my brain and all the excuses, I would never have started and never created a podcast. The third principle Nima talks about is, Elevating Others. On the show this week he talks about a touching and interesting story of how a simple act of elevating somebody that most people never think about or even notice turned into something much bigger. In this age of social media, giving and not taking is more important than ever before. If you hold your hand out there to take, you are going to have a tough time getting anywhere and you will disappear quickly. If you take the approach of give, give, give… then things will happen by default. This is another form elevating others. If you walk into every discussion or meeting with someone, just looking for what is in it for you… you will struggle. You will find it hard to build a long term meaningful relationship with those people. You will find it difficult to get others to look at you as a partner or a trusted advisor. Mark Twain said “Keep away from the people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” Don’t be the small person in this quote. When you elevate others, magic happens, ideas and thoughts form that make things even greater. Treat people around how you would want to be treated. It is not a complicated notion.
