Richer Soul, Life Beyond Money

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 1, 2025 59:55

Confidence Comes Later   In this episode of Richer Soul, we welcome Angus Nelson, an executive coach dedicated to transforming entrepreneurs into their best selves. Angus shares his powerful story of overcoming burnout, addiction, and personal loss to build a life of balance and fulfillment. He discusses the psychology of success, emotional intelligence, and how to cultivate a wealthy life beyond just financial gains. His insights have impacted leaders in startups, Fortune 500 companies, and even celebrity circles. Join us as we dive into Angus' transformative journey and learn how you, too, can redefine success on your terms.   Key Takeaways: Overcoming Burnout and Self-Sabotage. Angus shares how his early years of relentless work ethic led him to a dark place—losing his first marriage and business. His turning point came when he realized that self-worth isn't tied to how hard one works, but rather to the person one becomes. Learning to step back, prioritize mental health, and embrace self-awareness helped him rebuild his life. Redefining Wealth and Success. Growing up, Angus was raised in a culture that equated success with material gain and status. However, he later discovered that true wealth is about personal fulfillment, meaningful relationships, and impact. He now coaches high achievers to shift their mindsets from a scarcity-driven, fixed-pie mentality to one of abundance and growth. The Power of Emotional Intelligence. Success isn't just about strategy and execution; it's about managing emotions, communication, and self-awareness. Angus emphasizes the importance of emotional intelligence in business and leadership. He teaches his clients how to harness their emotions, build resilience, and cultivate deeper connections with those they lead. Personal Growth is the Key to Financial Abundance. Rather than chasing money, Angus believes in attracting it by becoming a better person. He stresses that financial success follows personal transformation. When you invest in yourself—your mindset, your emotional well-being, and your vision—you naturally create opportunities and wealth.   Money Learning: Angus grew up in a financially stable household where money was never scarce, but his parents' later shift to a scarcity mindset influenced his early beliefs. He learned that money should be earned through hard work, but he also absorbed limiting beliefs about wealth. It wasn't until later in life that he redefined his relationship with money—shifting from a mindset of limitation to one of possibility and abundance.   Guest Bio: Angus Nelson is an executive coach who helps entrepreneurs and business leaders unlock their full potential. As the host of the Evolve Leadership podcast and founder of the Wealthy Entrepreneur Circle mastermind, he has worked with high achievers in startups, Fortune 500 companies, and celebrity circles. His expertise in business psychology and emotional intelligence makes him a sought-after strategist for those committed to excellence. Angus has shared his insights with companies such as Walmart, Coca-Cola, BMW, Adobe, and Fidelidade. Currently based in Lisbon, Portugal, he lives with his family and two large dogs.   Key Discussion Points: Angus's childhood influences his financial mindset. The impact of a relentless work ethic and how it led to burnout. How faith and personal reflection helped him redefine success. The transition from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mentality. Emotional intelligence as a game-changer in leadership. The importance of identity and self-worth beyond work and financial success. Strategies for creating financial and personal fulfillment simultaneously.   Conclusion: Angus Nelson's journey is a testament to the power of self-awareness, resilience, and mindset transformation. His insights remind us that true wealth isn't just about financial success—it's about becoming a person of impact, fulfillment, and emotional mastery.   Links: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@angusnelson4340 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/angusnelson/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/angusnelson Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/angusnelson   Watch the full episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@richersoul Richer Soul Life Beyond Money. Hey Family Brand! It's Melissa here, and I couldn't be more excited to introduce you to my guest, Angus Nelson. Angus is an executive coach who helps entrepreneurs and high achievers break through their blockers and become their best selves. In today's episode, we dive into why confidence isn't the secret to success—and why the journey to real self-belief starts with action, not achievements. If you've ever felt stuck, doubted yourself, or let fear hold you back, this conversation is for you. Angus shares why many of us misunderstand confidence, treating it as something we need before taking action. He flips this idea on its head, explaining that confidence is always a result of doing, not a prerequisite. With humor and deep insight, Angus discusses how fear of failure and even fear of success are blockers that can paralyze us. By rethinking our stories and beliefs, we can take the first step toward growth—without waiting to feel “ready.” We also explore how these concepts apply to family life and relationships. Angus opens up about his own journey of personal transformation, including lessons from his role as a parent and his career as an entrepreneur. His vulnerability and wisdom remind us that building resilience, courage, and self-permission can transform not just our professional lives but our family dynamics as well. Angus also shares an incredible story of moving his family to Portugal, embracing resistance, and finding courage through big life changes. His takeaway? Resistance isn't a sign to quit; it's an opportunity to grow stronger and prove to yourself what you're capable of. Lastly, Angus gives us a sneak peek into his upcoming book, Confidence Comes Later. He reveals why chasing confidence keeps us stuck and how shifting our mindset can unlock incredible potential. It's a must-read for anyone ready to shatter limiting beliefs and step into the life they were meant to live.   LINKS: All Links Family Brand!  stan.store/familybrand   Links For This Episode: Book: https://www.angusnelson.com/book Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/angusnelson   Episode Minute By Minute: 0:00 – Meet Angus Nelson: Executive Coach and Author 2:00 – Why Confidence Isn't What You Think It Is 5:00 – Breaking Down the Biggest Blockers: Fear of Failure and Success 10:00 – Why Resistance Is an Opportunity for Growth 15:00 – Redefining Confidence Through Action 20:00 – Angus' Personal Transformation and Lessons from Family Life 27:00 – Moving to Portugal: The Courage to Follow Your Dreams 31:00 – How to Connect with Angus and Learn More About His Work

Angus Nelson is an executive coach, speaker, and facilitator, specializing in emotional intelligence and high-performance team building. He brings a unique blend of experience in personal development and corporate innovation, empowering leaders and teams to thrive in today's fast-paced business environment. Men are twice as likely to take their own lives. This alarming fact sets the stage for a discussion on the importance of seeking help and support. Angus Nelson acknowledges that isolation is a major factor contributing to this statistic. Many men, out of pride and fear of judgment, keep their struggles to themselves. Angus Nelson goes on to explain that many individuals have things they are unwilling to say out loud, even to themselves. Instead of seeking support, they distract themselves with various activities or substances. This avoidance stems from a belief that admitting to having a problem or struggling makes them less of a man, less of an alpha species. However, the truth is that nobody is perfect, and everyone has their own issues. Angus emphasizes that even those who may seem aspirational or perfect have their own weighty problems. Angus and Larry Hagner suggests that giving oneself grace, love, and self-compassion can be transformative. By accepting that imperfection is a shared human experience, individuals can find healing and develop a more compassionate mindset. Angus believes that if individuals can extend grace and compassion to themselves, they can also spread those qualities to others. www.thedadedge.com/friday142 www.angusnelson.com

Podcast Intro: Men are expected to be strong and mighty. This causes them to keep everything to themselves, not wanting to appear weak. They often keep their emotions to themselves as they believe that they will be used against them once they show their weakness. This prevents them from being happy as they have to pretend what society has imposed on them and hide their feelings. In recent years, society has developed a variety of demands that require a variety of approaches. To meet these demands, men need to adapt. The process of understanding what needs to be done involves growth and development. Angus Nelson is a coach and the founder of Evolve Men Coaching. He is among the nation's leading performance strategists as he helps ambitious men achieve freedom, happiness, and purpose. In this episode, he shares his experience as a coach and his views and insights on the growth, development, and history of men in this lifetime. You're going to be chasing that all the time. It's filling your life with the things that naturally and effervescently give you happiness and joy.”  “Until a man knows who he is, he can never become or be anything outside of that.” “All that identity shifting we did in the beginning now brings about these new opportunities. Because you've upgraded yourself, you want to attract your brain and this equilibrium to attract these higher frequent levels, relationships, experiences, and opportunities.” “Just like everything else, we attract what we are. If we're trying to pursue these great and mighty things, what we find is that those great and mighty things are filled with emptiness. Because we're doing them out of the pursuit of validation.” “Transformation in your life is nothing more than having a context of tools that help you advance your understanding, yielding, and letting go.” “I'm giving myself permission, and that permission is all the power you need.” Guest Bio: Angus Nelson Angus is a man on a mission. And so what you're living today is actually living in the past because all the stories that you have told about yourself, you've convinced yourself into a subconscious state of your identity."   31:36 Angus: "Going through my business and, you know, burying myself into trying to carry the weight of the world on my own shoulders, like I was doing it all wrong. And for all the wrong reasons, I didn't ask for help. And I didn't understand how my energy internally was mounting against me and I was creating my own pain." 34:20 Chad: "You still feel him, whether you've read the Bible or not, because it's not about reading the Bible necessarily. That's all good. It helps you get closer to the word, but you are talked to, you were quote unquote on a desert island, which was under your tree and in your own head and God, and yet God found you."  36:44 Angus: "I'm of the opinion now where it's like by grace, you are saved and it's not, you, you start living a life out of the expression of that caliber of love. And the more you feel loved, the more you act right, do right, be right." 39:15 Angus: "I have to walk in dominion and authority and glory and power. And I have to let my light shine because God has made me a city on a hill that cannot be hid." 45:31 Angus: "Our bodies require this kind of focus and that is in the minds and in the health of our emotions, you know, mind, will and emotions. If you aren't caring for those things, then you can get exhausted. You can get distracted, you can get into really dark places because you're trying to burn candles at both ends." 1:11:38 Angus: The more that we put pressure on ourselves or on others to perform for some kind of an accolade, acceptance or validation is the moment we are caught in religion and legalism." Men need each other. And it's perhaps more important now than ever before. Today we have the tools and resources to feel and understand deeper. Tools that our forefathers did not have that have caused trauma and pain to be passed down. Angus joins us in this episode, as we seek purpose in incredible pain and changing for the better. Angus has gone through it all. An unfulfilling career, a nasty divorce, and every hero complex imaginable to men. We are more than familiar with impulses that cause deep self-harm and for the longest time men didn't know the reason behind them. Because of this, the life journey we take is filled with pain and anguish as a result of mistakes. And we did not know how to make sense of this, it never gets addressed, and the pain eventually manifests again. We repeat a cycle of failures simply because we did not know to address the root of it all: Who you really are. For centuries, men were told to put their heads down, don't feel, and just hustle. While this has helped build society, it has also caused generations of mentally and emotionally damaged men. We have an opportunity to ‘right' this today. Never in our history did we ever get the chance to stop and look into managing our emotions. The expectations of hustle culture in men have caused these traumas to be passed down because we never got to address them, until today. Angus offers a deeply personal journey that affirms a message that we all needed to hear a long time ago: It should all begin and start with Self-love. In this episode, you will learn about 09:14 - Men need each other 12:28 - Men get messed up in divorce 18:35 - Getting married for the wrong reasons 20:35 - My identity was my performance 23:46 - Resetting identity, trauma, and your authentic self 30:00 - Giving ourselves permission to recognize our own greatness 32:34 - New truths about myself 36:59 - Cheating is a result of something not being present 46:05 - The suicide thought process and resetting life 50:56 - The damages of Hustle Culture 1:01:12 - Self-love Action Steps! 1:05:38 - Morning Manifest, Affirmations and Principals Connect with Angus Nelson on: Website: https://angusnelson.com/ Email: angus@angusnelson.com Instagram: @angusnelson Connect with Ian Lobas & the Men on Purpose podcast: Email: listeners@menonpurposepodcast.com Website: https://ianlobas.com/podcast/ Join the Men on Purpose Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/themenonpurposecommunity Connect with us on social media: https://www.instagram.com/menonpurposepodcast/ https://www.facebook.com/MenOnPurposePodcast/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/ianrlobas/ Want to watch this and other awesome interviews? In our conversation today, we hear from Angus Nelson on how to find real meaning and personal improvement in our life. Angus Nelson is a men's performance coach with a deep understanding of the struggles we face. He is very open, honest, and transparent about his journey, what he has come through. Now he's also leading other men to make that same transformation in their own life. Want to learn a bit more about high-achieving men and how to align your life with your purpose? If so, this is the episode for you, my friend. We'll also cover how you can create a life filled with high-caliber relationships, meaning and satisfaction. Take a seat, turn up the volume and let's start living fearless today! Biggest Takeaways:       ●     The first part to make things better is having a powerful mindset. ●     We have to create places that feel safe. ●     When you show yourself vulnerable, you give others permission to do the same. ●     The work is internal. ●     We won't give ourselves permission to actually go after it. ●     Give yourself permission to do the things that will transform your own life. That's your responsibility. ●     The things that are in you are the same things that are without you. ●     Be fully focused on moving forward, not just yourself and your family, but also the men that you're working with. Highlights:        ●     Who we are and where we have been [01:16] ●     Learning how to identify the important circumstances behind the isolation [3:30] ●     How to create good relationships around you [04:41] ●     How human behavior is related with relationships made by a suppressive culture of being emotionally neutral as a man [11:15] ●     Why communication is important in the whole process of getting better [14:44] ●     Defining what you don't want in your behavior and life as a man [26:03] ●     Why we struggle [37:47] ●     Who you must become [44:11] ●     Tools, Methods and Mindsets to get full transformation in your life [56:50] Connect with Angus Nelson Website: https://www.angusnelson.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dannybaderauthor Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_dannybader Book - 'Loves Compass' https://amzn.to/3x3qZPl Manhood Matrix https://www.angusnelson.com/matrix Connect with Mike Forrester Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hicoachmike Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hicoachmike Mentioned in this episode: LFT Facebook Group Ad Are you feeling like no one understands your struggles, that you're isolated and alone?
