On this week's episode we are joined with author Clint Edwards to talk about his work as a writer with a blog, books and a great collection of relatable and witty memes and tweets. Most of our conversation on this episode was around his latest book: Silence is a Scary Sound (hence the title!). From a reader's perspective, this book is hilarious, witty, and relatable for any parent who's had toddlers or is going through the great phase of terrible twos and threes. We talk to Clint about the many experiences he shared in the book, how this book came into being and his personal experiences around raising kids. Some of the particular incidents he wrote about will have you laughing as you probably have been through them too - we talk to him about those experiences. We also talk about the response he's had online to his blog posts from different people and what advice he might have for dads today. We had fun getting to know Clint on this week's episode and hope you enjoy it too! Happy New Year and a New Decade!!! Wow we are in the 2020s already! It definitely seemed like this was meant to be way in the future and my biggest disappointment is that the microwaveable mini pizza that turned into a large one in Back to The Future isn't real. As we move into this new decade, there are many things from this past year and decade in general (especially the latter half) that we really need to leave behind. And this episode is all about those things and my highly opinionated point of view on them (and yours as shared on my Instagram - thank you for that!). So what are the things we talk about in this episode that need to be left behind? Mom shaming, unsolicited parental advice, telling moms enjoy every minute of it, trolling people on social media, being flat out role in the name of "woke culture" - seriously so many negative people out there bringing others down - these things really need to be left behind in 2019. I also discuss some other trends that I think we need to get away from - such as recording everyone's bad moments and sharing them on social media to shame them. I give a detailed reason why this needs to be reduced and what the impact I see of this unhealthy habit being trickled down to our kids.  I also discuss some other things that have become super trendy on social media - aka thirst traps! - people talking about them for likes and follows - such as vulnerability and talking about anxiety for the sake of getting likes. The woman supporting woman movement? Mom supporting mom movement? Yeah these need to slow down to realness only as well. And can we please retire the use of letter boards and ridiculous filters on our images?! Why do we need to distort reality to such a high degree? I mean I'm still going to use the Paris filter on Instagram from time to time and definitely will use Lightroom for some images to correct the color - but we can all agree the air brushed photo look that reduces you to having no features and bone structure on your face can go?!? Right? There are some other things we talk about as well that you need to listen to this episode for. Check it out and subscribe to the podcast if you haven't already! Have a great week!

Happy Holidays Everyone! We are ramping up for Christmas and as excited as we are man the stuff that needs to get done can be a major PAIN! So today we are airing out our Christmas grievances on this episode celebrating Festivus. What is Festivus? It originates from Seinfeld (hey Seinfeld fans!!!) and according to yourdictionary.com this is the definition: Festivus is defined as a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 that is essentially anti-Christmas, a backlash to the commercialization of Christmas and involves the airing of grievances. The term was first used by Frank Costanza (father of principle character George Costanza) on the American comedy Seinfeld. So today we are focusing on airing out some of our Christmas grievances. This that we talk about today are advent calendars, Elf on the Shelf, traveling during the holidays, family time when you hate them or cant get along with them, lack of family time when its not by choice, gift giving and grievances around buying presents, giving presents out of obligation and getting weird AF gifts. We also talk about the pickle tradition, and the drama around Christmas political correctness (spoiler alert, no one cares if you say Merry Christmas! No one is mad! Just be kind!). Hope you enjoy this episode. After this, we will be off till the new year and be back on Jan 7 with another new episode! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!

The screen time and technology debate. How much is too much screen time? Join us for a conversation between Terri and Gila: Two women’s opinions not backed by studies (for the most part). The impact of technology on our lives is big and often millennials (and the kids being raised in this technology era) are given a bad rep for their “overuse” of technology and how much we rely on it. We talk about numerous things surrounding technology: The app culture and communicating on numerous apps. Social media and how much time we spend on it. How much time our kids spend on apps and in front of screens and establishing boundaries that work for us. We talk about the many benefits of technology: keeping families and friends connected around the world. For moms especially, we found making mom friends through social media has had a positive impact. Our lives are better with the people we have connected with online – who we can talk to about our lives and struggles – someone who knows us but doesn’t know us in the day to day – that’s something technology has allowed us to do – enabling a supportive online mom community that would not have been possible without the social media apps we are on. We also discuss rules and setting boundaries at home with technology use. Gila shares with us how her family unplugs from technology completely once a week for 25 hours on the weekend due to religious reasons and the discipline and benefits that come with it are powerful. Living the NEW normal: Marriage, Baby, Divorce, Remarriage, another baby. In between navigating massive loads of laundry, cooking 32 different meals for picky eaters, doing ponytails over until they are perfect with “NO BUMPS, MOM!” and double-fisting iced coffee, she finds time to write all of it down. In addition to being a published author and writing her own blog, she's a contributor for PopSugar, MommyNearest and has work in ScaryMommy, Romper The Huffington Post and Today Parents. She’s a speaker and a published author with essays in two anthologies about motherhood and pregnancy. Sometimes there’s sarcasm, sometimes there’s cursing but she always keeps it real. No filters or censorship, just a gal momming so hard and documenting it. After working many years in public relations and communications, she decided she had enough after one particularly bad experience that made her question what the eff she was doing? She stopped with the “what ifs” and hatched a plan to leave the confines of a cubicle and live her dream as a full-time writer. (In her dream she was thinner, richer and had much more clothing without spatterings of spit-up and breast milk, but beggars can’t be choosers.) She’s pretty Type A but admits that you are more likely to find baby wipes and a half-eaten bag of Cheez-its in her purse than cash.

We cover these hot social media topics and activities in a funny way. But we also get serious about the trolls who feel the need to put others down on social media because they feel triggered by a joke. We've all seen those nasty comments and on this episode we have a thing or two to say about that. You know what else we have something to say about? The Mom Supporting Mom and Women Supporting Women movement. We discuss how this has been taken a little too far and the expectations we've put on women with this movement are unrealistic. I poke fun at toddler leashes, letter boards and cake smash photo shoots. This week on the podcast I am going solo. I dive into some commonly asked questions that I have received many times about marriages, how to make things work, why I decide to share what I share about my marriage and having problems and over coming problems in a marriage. I give some examples from my life and talk about why it's important to vocalize this (but not air out your dirty laundry) and why everyone going through challenges should know this is normal. This week on the podcast we talk to Ela W., founder of Sitterhood Inc. We talk to Ela about the increasing workload for moms, even though there's more equality in house hold work, even though dads are more supportive and involved in the day to day activities at home and outside of home, the workload for mothers continues to increase compared to our parents' generations and the way they raised their kids and the support they had.  We talk about the changes over generations and how the concept of having your village to support you isn't the same as it used to be. We talk about the increasing mom guilt and work load and the lack of the "village" that exists now, that we need to help raise our children. Moms need a break to reset their minds, to take time for themselves or even do chores that are easier done without caring for a kid at the same time, but most of us struggle to find that support on a regular basis.  Ela shares her story with us and what support looks like for her, and how she finds help. We talk to Ela about how the need of finding a support system so she can have a break ended up with her creating a service and online community called Sitterhood. Ela shares with us the full purpose of sitterhood, and how moms can find support in other moms in their own areas. Ela is a stay-at-home mom and the founder of Sitterhood, an online community where parents can connect for occasional childcare. She worked in Advertising/Marketing for over 10 years, until having her son almost four years ago. She currently lives in Hamilton, Ontario with her husband and two kids. Her vision is to build a community for parents to grow their support network and make occasional childcare more accessible for all parents across Canada. Michelle shares with us some great tools and tips that we can start applying in our lives with our children immediately. I have been using her tips and they really do work! We also take up questions on the podcast asked by the Instagram community about struggles they have had with raising their kids. "Michelle lives in Los Angeles with her two girls 9 and 12. Before becoming a Hand in Hand certified instructor in 2015, she worked for 12 years in public schools as a teacher and counselor. After years of consequences, bribes and star charts she found Hand in Hand parenting, created by Patty Wipfler. It reshaped the relationship she shares with her daughters, and she credits it with changing her life.  Michelle has helped herself and others make meaningful connections, work on sibling rivalry, and alleviate school problems.  Aggression, fears, withdrawnness and sleep are just some of the struggles she has shared and helped others rectify. This week we are talking with guest Jen Schwartz, the founder of Motherhood Understood about Maternal Mental Health Awareness. We talk about Jen's journey with Postpartum Depression and how she got help. We discuss how the stigma around Maternal Mental Health still exists and that there aren't enough resources to prepare and educate moms to be about the possibility to being hit by some form of PPD. We talk about how Jen is creating a community to help moms have this conversation and realize that we are not alone. Lastly, we also raise awareness around Bell Lets Talk Day (in Canada), a day focused on raising funds and helping reduce the stigma around mental health issues. Jen Schwartz is the medicated mommy who picked up the debris left by postpartum depression and anxiety and created MOTHERHOOD-UNDERSTOOD, a platform for the 1 in 7 moms affected by maternal mental health issues and the community she couldn’t find while struggling in a dark closet all by herself after the birth of her son. Jen gives permission slips to women who aren’t exactly enamored with their new role as mommy, so they can allow themselves to be the most real and honest versions of themselves. She helps them empathize, share, and connect with others who speak their language—moms who understand that new mommy life isn’t always the way it looks on Instagram. Jen is committed to shining the light on the darkest of places, where maternal mental health taboos have been hiding out, trying to make us believe that we are not enough and all alone. Jen is a writer, speaker, and influencer whose work and commentary has been featured all over the mommy blogosphere and on popular websites like Forbes, Bustle, The Mighty, Healthline, The Bump, Pop Sugar Moms, Scary Mommy, CafeMom and more. Recently, 2020 Moms named Jen their 2019 Blue Dot Project National Spokeswoman and Inspire partnered with her to create and run their maternal mental health online community forum. Though she will always consider herself a New Yorker, Jen now lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband Jason, tiny human Mason, and fur baby Harry Potter.
