For years, Leah Carey felt equal parts shut down and obsessed re: sex. Meanwhile, she chose terrible partners. Then in her 40s, during her final session with a therapist, she revealed a long held sexual secret. Leah's admission marked the start of what would become an across-the-country sexual awakening adventure. She eventually landed on desires that surprised her and began transforming her life into helping other women find similar healing. ** This episode mentions and has some discussion of sexual trauma. Please take care while listening. Recently, Danielle asked her good friend, sex and intimacy coach, Leah Carey, to listen to her and Adam's wildly popular episode, “Awakening The Sex Talk Demons.” Danielle wanted to know why this conversation with Adam concerning intimacy had been so explosive and chaotic before it was able to be productive. Had they done it wrong? Is it actually possible to tell your partner you need more, sexually, and have it be a smooth, gentle discussion? Leah breaks down what we need to remember during these very tough conversations: we've been conditioned differently from the time we're very young, and are often simply adhering to the roles we've been instructed to fulfill. She and Danielle discuss that infamous first Marriage and Martinis episode that Leah was on, why we can't always trust our bodies' physical responses during intimacy, games that can be played in lieu of telling our partner, “we're not satisfied” as means to get a similar message across, and so much more.Want to spend a weekend with Danielle, Leah, and other badass women, embarking on a virtual, groundbreaking journey from January 25th to 27th. We'll be exploring our true sensual and sexual selves at midlife, shedding old stories that no longer serve us, and rewriting our personal narratives as we learn how to truly fulfill our needs and desires. Have you ever let your tongue finish the dance that your ass began? Podcaster & Sex and Intimacy coach Leah Carey has never believed that great sex was something she deserved, but as she begins to seek out sensual, kinky live events in her local community, she meets a man who makes her feel safe enough to try new things. Together, they set a boundary and WOW, who knew it could be so hot to have someone tell you No when you begged for it? And the time is now: Pitch Dixie your true story for our just announced East Coast Tour dates. Are you ready to get onstage (and get a standing ovation!) in 2024? Growing up with an abusive father, she learned to be a VERY “good girl,” which translated into significant sexual repression as an adult. Always convinced that she was the problem – not pretty enough, smart enough, or sexually skilled enough - she dreamed of great sex but assumed she would never experience it. At age 43, life threw Leah an opportunity to challenge her old beliefs and finally move her beyond the mythology of the “Good Girl.” Listen to the Good Girls Talk About Sex podcast and learn more at www.LeahCarey.com Episode links: Needle Play Acupuncture: Needle Play Acupuncture was made by and for the Kink, Leather, and LGBTQIA+ communities. Danielle sits down with her good friend Leah Carey, who is a sex and intimacy coach and host of the podcast, "Good Girls Talk About Sex." The two discuss Leah's new ventures into pursuing an open relationship with her longtime partner. How did they know it was the right time to explore this lifestyle? What is different about their relationship now that allows them to trust one another enough to pursue sexual experiences outside of their relationship? What are the boundaries for these sexual encounters? What is the communication in most healthy open relationships a great example for all couples of how discussions and discourse around sex should take place? This episode is filled with important advice for any couple who feels like improved interactions could lead to deeper intimacy and a better, more fulfilling sex life. Hosted on Acast. In her early 40s, Leah began a profound journey into sexual healing – and you are invited to join herLeah Carey was subjected to sexual trauma from an early age. Her father's alcoholic and narcissistic behaviors created extremely confusing messages about sex. As a result, she was left without the tools necessary to build healthy and intimate relationships. She completely lacked the ability to advocate for her own pleasure and claim her own bodily autonomy. Tune in to hear about Leah's transformative journey where she learned to heal old sexual issues, love her own body, and discover how to truly enjoy all sexual experiences.Having grown up in a home that was deeply confused and conflicted around sexuality – and with a father who told her she was fat, ugly, and no one would ever love her – Leah spent most of her life in fear of her own femaleness and the trouble it could get her into. This conversation is wildly brave and given the state of America these days, these conversations need to be had more often, more loudly, and with more reverence for the social impact required to create real and sustainable change. Feed drop time! We're on a break from the show as we prepare for v5 of SquadCast and work on revamping the SquadCast podcast. So, we're bringing you carefully curated feed drops from some of our favorite SquadCasters. This week, we're spotlighting the work of Pam Uzzell, who's been a SquadPodder for a while now. SquadPod is what we call the SquadCast community on Slack. (Join us here). Pam Uzzell is a documentary filmmaker and podcaster currently living in Oakland, CA. At twenty-two, she began working in post-production, with credits in over twenty feature films, including Terminator 2, Godfather III, and Bram Stoker's Dracula. She is the director and producer of three independent documentaries, Some Call It Heaven (2007), Unearthing the Dream (2012), and Welcome to the Neighborhood (2018). More about Pam here. Here's what the episode is about, from Pam's website:Today, I'm joined by independent director and producer Alexi Lacey. She has over 20 years of experience in filmmaking, and her most recent project, Fiji Memory Colonial Time, has been on her mind since she was a teenager. The film explores the complexity of identity when it's been formed by privilege due to the exploitation of other people and the intended destruction of their culture. For Alexi, this was an opportunity to profile her mother's courage, share the bitter truths in their family's history, and the legacy of colonialism in Fiji. We discuss what motivated Alexi to pursue this story, how colonialism impacts our identities, and what she hopes viewers take away from this film. We also touch on the work that she does with issues around the housing crisis, displacement, and gentrification happening in San Francisco. Here's the description of the podcast, from Pam's website: Ready to unlock your inner artist? In this podcast, we explore the intersection between art and well-being. Listen as artists share how they creatively engage with the issues we all struggle with. Through their stories, we meet ourselves with compassion and find common ground. Why we chose this episode:Pam is an amazing producer and interviewer. The stories she chooses to highlight on her podcast are intriguing and heartfelt. We love how she effortlessly weaves in music to enhance her stories. Also in this episode:A pre-roll ad from Leah Carey's Good Girls Talk About SexPam UzzellJoin our communitySend us your podcast pre-rollsGet in touch with us on social mediaCreditsWritten and produced by Arielle NissenblattMixed and designed by Vince Moreno Jr.Artwork and logos by Alex WhedbeeHosted by Zach Moreno and Rock Felder
Leah Carey is a sex and intimacy coach and host of the podcast “Good Girls Talk About Sex.” She works with people eager to explore new avenues of their sexuality and fulfill their greatest desires, like: diving back into the dating pool after a long time away, having first-time queer experiences, investigating consensual non-monogamy, or learning how to communicate about kink. This work was not an obvious life choice for Leah. Growing up with an abusive father, she learned to be a VERY “good girl.” She got involved in a series of emotionally abusive relationships, always convinced that SHE was the problem – not pretty enough, smart enough, or sexually skilled enough. And because she wasn't having pleasure during sex, so she was convinced she was broken. At age 42, life threw Leah an opportunity to build a new story: with both parents gone and no siblings, she could put aside the family mythology of the “good girl.” She began challenging her old beliefs about worthiness, attractiveness, and desirability. Watching her phenomenal growth, friends started seeking her out to help them do the same. Today, Leah works with women JUST LIKE YOU to reflect their true sexual nature back to them, without the judgment, shame, or fear that can get in the way of seeing it for themselves. Listen in to hear Leah share: How growing up in an alcoholic and abusive household shaped her sexual identity The challenge of healing trauma and overcoming sexual repression while her parents were still alive The road trip that led her on her journey of sexual awakening How her work with a sex worker was so healing and transformational How going to a sex resort and not having any sex completely changed her relationship with her body for the better Why connection and safety must trump sex even in trusted long term relationships Why libido is likely not the issue holding back sex & intimacy in your life Why moms are “touched out” and what to do about it The current cultural shift in acceptance and normalization of sexual identities, practices and frameworks Links mentioned: Connect with Leah: LeahCarey.com Leah's podcast Good Girls Talk About Sex: GoodGirlsTalk.com Leah on Instagram Leah on Twitter Leah on YouTube Sponsor info and promo codes: Please find our sponsor information here: shamelessmom.com/sponsor/ Interested in becoming a sponsor of the Shameless Mom Academy? When Leah first showed people her podcast, one of her early listeners gasped - but good girls don't talk about sex! - and, of course, that became the name of her podcast. She hastens to add that the podcast isn't just good girls - and, in fact, not just girls, either. She joined us on the Human Awareness podcast for a most delightful episode talking about body image, emotional pressure, and how she went from being frozen stiff with fear at the thought of someone seeing her body naked - to finding herself in spaces where nudity was normal and okay. Let us start the New Year with…blackmail! A woman's boyfriend got ensnarled by an extortionist on a kink website who sent private sexual photos to her family. Now she has to work through her anger and worry around sex and kink. Yuk, right? But then! You can hear the triumphant story of a man who batted away an aspiring blackmailer by telling her to go ahead and send out his pics “but be sure to use a filter to make my eyes look pretty.” A woman in poly relationships has gained a lot of weight after having a child. Her tertiary partners are no longer attracted to her. Should she try to persuade them to love her new bigger body, or find some other folks who will worship her for who she is now. Dan brings on Leah Carey host of “Good Girls Talk About Sex,” to help the caller grapple with her body image issues. On the Magnum, we have a “What You Got” by James Mackay, about hypnosis and pornography in a cultural history of the two genres. And finally, a woman has flashbacks after she has sex, in which her recollections fill her with disgust. It was super-hot at the time. Why does she get flooded with regret days later? Relationship contracts are a hot topic lately, but what makes a contract effective and non-offensive to the parties involved? What should a relationship contract contain? How can a couple that doesn't have a written contract enforce one if they need to? For an answer to these questions and more, check out Team MVP correspondent Brian Althimer latest interview with Sex and Intimacy Coach Leah Carey as she delves into the world of Relationship Contracts. Leah will answer questions like: 1. What is a relationship contract?2. What generation is using relationship contracts the most?3. Where did the concept of relationship contracts originate from?4. Are these contracts legally binding?5. Do relationship contracts work?6. How are relationship contracts enforced?7. What are some things you have heard of couples putting into their relationship contracts?8. Can you add and take away things from the contract?9. Why are couples even considering these contracts?10. What are some things that should be included in a relationship contract if you enter into one?11. Do you think simple communication is just better; compared to entering into a meritless contract? Most of Leah Carey's memories growing up are black spots. Her dad was an alcoholic and he was abusive to her and her mom. He would tell her how unhappy he was with her mother and that Leah should at all costs avoid growing up to be like her. He discussed his sex life with Leah, talked about her body in a sexual way, and exposed her to sexual content in the home. Even when she moved out of the house their relationship remained very strained and Leah increasingly felt like she was shrinking inside and that she needed to disappear. As an adult she took a trip that would mark the beginning of her sexual awakening. She had her first experience with a woman, learned about tantric sex, and began to heal from the trauma that had marked most of her life. Today Leah is a sex and intimacy coach and host of the podcast Good Girls Talk About Sex whose mission it is to empower women into being equal co-creators of their sexual experience. NB: This is the final episode before Mind Full of Everything goes on hiatus until 12th May due to the host's education commitments. In light of the outcry of women on their safety and issues around sexual exploitation of women across the world, this episode emphasises on the importance of establishing a sex positive culture, where women's sexual rights and freedoms are celebrated, not oppressed. Leah is a sex and intimacy coach, and also the host of the Good Girls Talk About Sex podcast, where women anonymously share their sexual journeys and experiences in an effort to encourage other women to embrace their sexualities and denounce misogyny around women's sexual exploration. In this episode, Leah and Agrita discuss a wide array of prominent sex issues and topics that directly affect the sexual happiness of women including: stigma around sexual exploration as a woman, birth control/abortion rights, validity of asexuality, motherhood and sexuality and shifting away from zero-sum relationships. Although this conversation is revolved around sex issues that most heterosexual women experience, as the misogyny often found in heterosexual relationships needs to be urgently addressed, issues/topics discussed here are applicable to all women in all sexual/romantic relationships.
Finding Fertile Ground Podcast: Stories of Grit, Resilience, and Connection
Note: this episode contains adult content.Leah Carey tried to be a “good girl” for decades before waking up sexually in her early 40s. She had a rough childhood. Her dad was an alcoholic and emotionally abused Leah and her mom. He spoke to Leah sexually about her body and told her she was fat and ugly. Later he said he was going to lock her in her room until she was 30 and break the kneecaps of any boy who showed interest in her. This combination of verbal abuse and protectiveness led her to feel confused. When her dad died, it sent Leah into a black hole of depression, sinking further until she was nonfunctional. When she started having suicidal ideations, she realized that she was not okay. Because she had very little money, she went to a free health clinic and got the medication that she needed. By the time her mom passed away from cancer in 2015, they had formed a healing relationship. She sold her mom’s house in New Hampshire and took a solo road trip around the US. During that trip she realized she had never had pleasurable sexual sensations. She experienced great healing from tantric massage in New York City, which set her on a new path: "you are not broken." Her massage therapist gave her homework to "play with sensation,” so she used the road trip to do that. She didn’t have to be the "good girl" anymore. She had incredible experiences, discovering she is allowed to be sexual.Leah believes that taking control of our sexuality, speaking up for our needs and talking honestly about what really matters, is the essence of goodness, kindness, and integrity….and that’s the kind of good girl she wants to be.After Leah shared herstories with her girlfriends, they started telling her their sex stories, too. So she started a podcast a few years ago called “Good Girls Talk about Sex,” in which she interviews women, queer, and nonbinary folx about their sex lives, usually anonymously. Leah offers sex and intimacy coaching to people who grew up socialized as little girls; hosts “Good Girls Talk About Sex” PJ parties; and leads training. She helps people find their authentic sexual selves and teaches how to communicate with their partners.Leah shared her own recent challenges with sex in “My Pandemic Sex Life,” in which she “gets raw and real about how her intimate life has weathered the storm of a year-long international crisis, and about how confronting her partner’s depression spiral turned out to be a better strategy than enduring it competently.” We spoke about the damage the pandemic is having on people who lack physical touch. When I asked Leah which grit and resilience story has been an inspiration for her, she mentioned the stories of Harry Potter. She is still trying to ascertain how to engage with those stories and their meaning while making peace for herself (because of JK Rowling’s transphobia). Leah and I also geeked out about the Harry Potter and the Sacred Text podcast. At the end of that podcast, the co-hosts choose a character in the chapter they’re discussing to bless. Leah mentioned that in the first episode, Vanessa chose to bless Harry’s mean, verbally abusive Aunt Petunia. She tries to see people who have done wrong as people who have been harmed. The vast majority of people who become abusers were hurt themselves as children.I suggested that our homework, in light of this conversation, should be to bless JK Rowling. She’s our Aunt Petunia.Next week I interview Stefanie Bonastia, who suffered with eating disorders for over 20 years. After decades of extensive therapy, she created her own formula for healing and made a full recovery. She started her own business to help others do the same.

Support the Finding Fertile Ground Podcast on Patreon! Warning: This episode contains adult content. Madeleine Black survived a gang rape at age 13. Since I was sexually assaulted at 13 as well, we had a tender conversation about how this experience changed our lives.Madeleine was born to two survivors. Her dad survived the Holocaust and her mum had her neck broken in a childhood surgery and woke up bedridden. Her parents handled their own trauma by just living their lives and carrying on.When Madeline was 13, a “really cool” friend asked her over because her mom was away from home. They lied about where they were staying. They bought a bottle of vodka and took it to the local café. Since she had never drunk alcohol before, it didn’t take her long to get drunk. Soon she began throwing up, and two young men offered to take them home in a taxi.“It became obvious very quickly they weren't there to let me sleep off the alcohol…they were there for something else, and the two of them proceeded to rape and torture me over the next four to five hours.”Madeleine’s body went into shock and she had an out-of-body experience. As a therapist, she knows that this often happens when the trauma is overwhelming. “Our stories are not uncommon and yet still we struggle to speak out about it. Still not many people will talk openly because of the shame that is so wrapped up in the event…it took me years to realize the shame never belonged to me. It always belonged to them.”When Madeleine woke up and remembered what happened, she was terrified to tell anyone. They cleaned up the flat and decided not to speak about it. On some subconscious level, she had bought into the rape myths and already thought it was her fault. Her life spiraled out of control after the experience, and it all came to a head when she stayed out late one night and her mum confronted her. Her parents suggested she go away for a while, so she went to Israel. While living there she met a wonderful Scotsman, the first man she felt safe with. They’ve been together now for 37 years. Madeleine became a therapist because of her dad’s experience surviving Auschwitz. She also helped survivors of domestic abuse and rape. Only when training as a rape crisis hotline worker did she understand she was living with undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder.Madeleine decided to go public with her story six years ago when she was invited to share it through an organization called The Forgiveness Project. She published her memoir, Unbroken, about three months before the #metoo movement started up again. Then she was invited to share her story at TEDx Glasgow. It has taken years of therapy to work through her trauma. It’s been a huge process. She has found a way to forgive her attackers, calling herself an “accidental forgiver.” She views her forgiveness as an act of self-love. Madeleine started “Unbroken The Podcast with Madeleine Black” to help heal, motivate, inspire, and bring hope to others. This conversation touched my heart. I wish that my 13-year-old self could have spoken to Madeleine’s 13-year-old self and said, “#metoo.”Next week I share the story of Leah Carey, who tried to be a “good girl” for decades before waking up sexually in her early 40s. Now she is a sex coach and educator, in addition to host of the “Good Girls Talk About Sex” podcast. Renwal: Our theme for the week led me to a new podcast series: “Loving the Unlovable” First up, a conversation with my sister, Tamara Brown. Her MA in Human Development is what got me to call her but it was our relationship as sisters that helped us talk about the unlovable.Literally, my sister didn’t have a photo of herself so I went to unsplash and typed in “unlovable” This is what I got! What makes us lovable? Why is that such a cringey question? My sister and I dive in, staying on the edges of her professional background as a child development expert but really talking a lot about where we are as far as our lovability. The idea for this series came from fellow podcaster, Leah Carey, whose podcast, Good Girls Talk About Sex is, IMHO, a must listen. Learning to love the unlovable bits about us — including the unlovable bits in our friends and neighbours suffering from narcissistic personality disorder or similarly challenging mental illnesses — is really in large part what being human is all about. If you come from a Christian perspective (as I do) your one job is to love your neighbour as you love yourself. Our first step, then, is to learn to love our unlovable bits to pieces so that we can go out into the world and love each other to the same degree.Tammy and I talk about weight, sexual orientation, disordered eating, sexual abuse, racism (though we just touch on this as neither of us is a POC), and more. We learn that one of us feels that she loves herself while the other isn’t quite there yet.Notes:James Fallon — Neuroscientist who discovered that he suffers from psycopathy and has since become an advocate for the disorder; challenging people to train themselves to be pro-social (my cliff notes)Onward. So many of us are feeling like we have hit the "pandemic wall." We're exhausted, emotionally drained, and we're surrounded by our kids 24/7. Living in sweatpants and never getting a proper date night can definitely take its toll on romance, and at the end of the day, we just want to fall into bed and not be bothered. Sex and intimacy coach Leah Carey helps Danielle and Adam understand what baby steps we can take to bring that connection back, and try to keep the frustration and distance we feel with our partners down to a minimum until life resumes as we once knew it (or as close to that as possible). We discuss how medication, alcohol, job loss, and monetary worries are all affecting people's sex drive. It's definitely normal, and it's happening to more couples than you think. This is definitely one of those very relatable episodes, and as always, Danielle and Adam are completely honest about the state of things and how they might be willing to take steps to change them.Sign up for the Friday five weekly newsletter at marriageandmartinis.comSign up for Leah's Girls Talk about Sex PJ party at Leahcarey.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode we get to talk about sex with guest Leah Carey, a sex and intimacy coach working with women who want to move beyond laying-back-and-accepting-whatever-their-partner-does-to-them, and are ready to become equal co-creators of their sexual experience.Leah is no stranger to Podcasts because she’s the host of her own show called Good Girls Talk About Sex.In this episode as well as sharing her own stories, Leah speaks to some of the reasons sex can be more complicated than it need be and what can happen when rather than having open communication we default to our conditioned ways of behaving in regards to sex and intimacy. This work was not an obvious life choice for Leah. Growing up with an abusive father, she learned to be a VERY “good girl.”She got involved in a series of emotionally abusive relationships, always convinced that SHE was the problem – not pretty enough, smart enough, or sexually skilled enough. And because she wasn’t having pleasure during sex, so she was convinced she was broken. At age 42, life threw Leah an opportunity to build a new story: with both parents gone and no siblings, she could put aside the family mythology of the “good girl.”She began challenging her old beliefs about worthiness, attractiveness, and desirability. Watching her phenomenal growth, friends started seeking her out to help them do the same.Today, Leah works with women to reflect their true sexual nature back to them, without the judgment, shame, or fear that can get in the way of seeing it for themselves. She's a guide for embracing the sexuality that is innately yours, no matter what it looks like. Her clients sink so deeply into their true sexuality that the old version of themselves that was scared to speak up for their own needs feels like a mirage from another lifetime.Links:website ~ www.LeahCarey.comInstagram ~ https://www.instagram.com/goodgirlstalk/Listen to the Good Girls Talk About Sex podcast! Sex — Welcome to a Wild and Precious conversation with Leah Carey of Good Girls Talk About Sex podcast. Our conversation began by acknowledging that “the world is on fire”. From there, we dove head first into talking about sex. I’m taking a bit of a departure today for my show notes, because I really like Leah’s bio and want to use it to introduce what we talked about and why I think Leah was the perfect choice as a guest for this subject:Leah Carey is a sex and intimacy coach who works with women who are ready to move beyond laying back and accepting whatever their partner wants to do to them, and want to start becoming equal co-creators of their sexual experience. This work was not an obvious life choice for Leah. Growing up with an abusive father, she learned to be a VERY “good girl.” But she never learned about building a loving, trusting relationship. She got involved in a series of emotionally abusive relationships, always convinced that SHE was the problem – not pretty enough, smart enough, or sexually skilled enough. Even worse: she wasn’t having pleasure during sex, so she was convinced she was broken. At age 42, life threw Leah an opportunity to build a new story: with both parents gone and no siblings, she no longer needed to uphold the family mythology of the “good girl.”Over the course of a year, she challenged her old beliefs about worthiness, attractiveness, and desirability. Watching her phenomenal growth, people started seeking her out to help them do the same.Today, Leah works with women like you to reflect your true sexual nature back to you, without all the judgment, shame, and fear that can get in the way of you seeing it for yourself. She will give you permission to embrace the sexuality that is innately yours, no matter what it looks like. In working with her, you will have the opportunity to sink so deeply into your true sexuality that the person who used to be scared of what she wanted - and terrified to speak it out loud - feels like a mirage from another lifetime. She is the host of the podcast “Good Girls Talk About Sex,” where she interviews women about their personal sexual histories. What we talked about:First, A rather long (7 ish minute) preamble where we talk about what is going on in the world. We each share a pretty vulnerable story about what we have learned recently about our friends who are Black/Brown or African American.Second, We dive into sex. Third, We discuss the importance of relationship, of being vulnerable, of working through the difficult moments to get to the good stuff and how everyone is better off when we can take the time to have a healthy sexual realtionship.Fourth, We get into some very frank talk about what that means — including, and please see the show notes, a great resource for how to talk about your STARS.Notes:Visit Leah at www.leahcarey.com or on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube @GoodGirlsTalkSTARS Talk — STARS talk by Dr. Evelin DackerOnward to Vulnerability. Gratitude — Welcome to a Wild and Precious conversation with Matana Poupko Jacobs, of Hope to Recharge podcast. Our conversation began by jumping right in to the reality that gratitude is really easy when life is easy. It becomes precious when life throws you a curve ball, when you have to remember to be grateful for your breath. For your ability to sit down. For the roof over your head. For your food that day. We then wander into a discussion of Sabbath, of taking time to connect to your inner self, to God, to your close family. We talk about the importance of recognizing resentment. Of not just moving to gratitude when it’s false, but taking time to come through resentment to acceptance and finally a real gratitude for something that may surprise you.I decided to give up my slight resentment over wearing masks as an example. Before you send hate mail, please know that I really don’t resent wearing a mask very much — I decided to “go there” as a way to open that conversation that no one really wants to wear a mask when we wake up in the morning…but we do it out of love for our neighbour. Honestly, I think how we broke that one down was gorgeous. Thank you, Matana! The way Matana left the conversation filled me with well needed tears of joy. Listen. What we talked about:First, Gratitude is easy until it is not. At that moment, start small. Start with your breath.Second, We move into a lovely (IMHO) discussion of the Sabbath, going inward to find gratitude, the importance of knowing yourself (that’s my paraphrase…) Third, We discuss being both spiritual and religious and how to find a balance of the two.Fourth, We end on the breath.Notes:Hope to RechargeUnblink Studio — My friend Jackie Tahara’s shop. I can’t be the only one wanting to up my mask game? Onward to sex! Look for the Monday morning newsletter, and a conversation from the Wild and Precious podcast episode on Thursday with Leah Carey of Good Girls Talk About Sex. Leah Carey, a sex and intimacy coach, helps her clients learn to embrace their sexuality no matter what that looks like. Jenny and Leah talk about a positive sex image, shedding shame about women’s sexuality, and how to communicate what you really want in the bedroom.
Hey Fans and Friends! I did not manage to get an episode out last week - so much is a foot. There are 2 things happening. The weekly schedule is not working well for me as a producer (and mom, biz owner and partner). And I've been given some powerful feedback about privilege and intersectionality that I'm working to take in. I want to be intersectional and inclusive and supportive. And so I need to slow down and reflect on all that has happened. So we are going to slow down. For the remaining episodes that we have recorded we will be switching to an every-other-week schedule. And when these recorded episodes run out, we'll be taking a break. I just wanted to give you a heads up and send you tons and tons of love. I have been loving doing these interviews and connecting with all of you. Sexual Freedom with Leah Carey Host of the Good Girls Talk About Sex podcast and sexual communication coach, Leah Carey is sharing her thoughts on the importance of sexual freedom and how she spent most of her life being a “very good girl.” Finding sex was boring or painful, Leah didn’t know she could ask for anything different. Listen to Leah’s journey to breaking that pattern and how she’s now passionate about breaking fear and shame for women. It’s time to explore what you want and deserve! What we’re talking about Trauma Isn’t Always Physical Leah’s Journey To Sexual Freedom Body Positivity & Body Neutrality Trauma Isn’t Always Physical Growing up, Leah was told by her dad that she was fat, ugly and no one would ever love her. As she became an adult, she discovered that these were not inherent truths about herself but she couldn’t see that because she had been believing in what was said to her. As an adult, Leah believed in her brokenness in part because of the sex she had in her life which was either painful or simply not sensational. Leah shares that not all trauma is physical. She hadn’t been physically abused, but her memories were enough to cause trauma and create coping mechanisms that she created as a child and carried on as an adult. Leah doesn’t do trigger warnings when it comes to her podcast or content because she feels they’re overused and don’t give the message that people are stronger than they think. Every one of us is stronger than the trauma we’ve experienced. Leah’s Journey To Sexual Freedom Having little to no sexual sensation, Leah got to a place in life where she felt there should be pleasure when having sex and discovered tantric massage in which people with vaginas were able to re-find sensation. She booked herself a 3 hour session and discovered that her pleasure signals were not getting to her brain, but her body, nervous system and sexual responses were all normal. She was not broken! And with that discovery, a door which had been slammed shut years before was suddenly opened back up. Leah went on a mission to find pleasure and on a solo trip around the country, she started posting and replying to Craigslist personal ads which led to threesomes and other adventures she’d been curious about. Part of Leah’s journey involved going to Hedonism and to her surprise, she found that she fit right in and that no one had a perfect body. The people who are most attractive and sexy are those who happily inhabit their bodies. The level of sexiness of a woman has absolutely nothing to do with the size of her body and everything to do with how she inhabits her body. Body Positivity & Body Neutrality Briana describes what it means to be fat positive, which is being comfortable with the word “fat.” Leah comes from a sex positive Portland community in which their goal isn’t body positivity, but body neutrality. Leah shares that it’s not about fawning over our bodies, but getting to the point that we are ok with our bodies, just as we are ok with having fingernails. It’s working towards not obsessing with any part of your body or your body overall and finding accepting in what it is and does for you. The lockdowns associated with COVID are relaxing but the stress and tensions can still affect our relationships. As our lives begin to resume their natural rhythms, not everyone is comfortable with managing a new level of risk. How does it affect relationships where one person a ready to get back in the world while the other person is still fearing that they might get sick? Where does that conversation begin? Relationships have their ups and downs during the best of times, but COVID has added a whole new layer to navigate. People have been cooped up for weeks and in some ways, life got a little boring. For some, the added stress amplified the already existing cracks in their relationships. While life is getting back to normal, that normal is looking very different. In one way or another, it will affect our sex lives. In this episode, I chat with Leah Carey who is a Sexual Communication and Intimacy Coach to provide direction on how we can begin to have difficult conversations to strengthen our relationships and reclaim (or claim) our sexual needs. Sex Communication Coach Leah Carey believed that she was unlovable and broken after growing up in an abusive household. Leah was often criticized by her father for being fat, ugly, and undesirable even though she wasn’t. As an adult, the abuse from her father ultimately caused Leah to feel self conscious and confused about sex.It wasn’t until she had the opportunity to take a solo road trip around America when her life started to change. In this adventure, Leah evolved into a confident and sexually proud woman. In this week’s episode of Leading With Your Gut, Leah Carey shares her story and mission behind her coaching business and podcast called, Good Girls Talk About Sex.Nothing is off limits in this episode. If you are not comfortable listening to two women talking about sex, maybe this one isn’t for you. If you are curious, please hang in for the next hour! In this episode Leah and I discuss quite a bit such as female body image, sexual abuse and trauma, the objectification of women, sexual shame and confusion, pleasure, dating for sex, tantric sex, female sexual repression, and sexual positivity. Leah speaks with openness and vulnerability about her experiences. Through her sexual awakening, Leah has learned to rely on her basic instincts, aka, her gut when encountering new partners and situations to maintain safety and control. I really enjoyed connecting with Leah. I think what she is doing as a coach and podcast host is empowering so many people, especially women to not feel shameful of their bodies or desires. As the new year approaches, let's make some resolutions that will really change our lives for the better: getting just a little bit braver talking to our partners about our sexual needs and desires. Danielle and Adam continue their conversation with sexual communications coach, Leah, all about how couples can handle differing libidos, exhaustion, lack of orgasms, the need for sexual touch throughout the day, and so much more. Leah recommends some "bedroom games," explains why women and men might have such different needs when it comes to sensual touch, explains some misconceptions about the vagina, and talks about why we need to start thinking of sexual experimentation in small increments rather than this huge, overwhelming task. This is an awesome episode to listen to with your spouse, or listen separately and then use it as a tool for discussion.https://www.leahcarey.com/brave See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This week on the podcast we welcome sex coach Leah Carey to talk about this taboo topic and dive deeper into how our sexual identity and sexual relationship with our partner changes as time progresses in a relationship and when we have kids. Leah helps us explore the "why" behind the changes, including looking at how society has positioned women and how society has taught women what we can or cannot do and how we can or cannot behave, especially when it comes to our sexual identities. Leah also helps us cover the "whats" of the changes and how we can work on bringing our sex drive back -- if that's what you are looking for in this phase of your life. Leah shares some great tips and tricks with the listeners, equipping us with some great tools to slowly bring that magic and connection back in the bedroom. Is sex my favorite thing to talk about? We'll never know. Leah Carey became a sexual communication coach when she realized she needed to teach what she wanted to learn. She realized that "talking about things in advance can either set me up for great experiences or prevent me from getting down with the wrong person." And we are so lucky to have her be teaching us this week on this important topic. No one gives us roadmaps about having sex or being in a relationship. Leah wanted to close that gap by helping people communicate in something that is really hard to do (SEX!). I’ve heard over and over from clients that they are in a season where sex feels not much fun. They are tired, touched out, and have no energy to give their partners. They miss it, but they also don’t really want to do it. That’s totally normal. In this conversation with Leah Carey, we discuss some of the ways that you can get really clear about what kind of intimacy you want with your partner, no matter what season you are in, and how to find your voice to ask for it. And what I find so fascinating (and important!) about this conversation, is that the more you practice identifying your needs and asking for them in any part of your life, the more you have that skill everywhere. You can get what you want in bed, and you can get what you want in the kitchen, and in the office, too. In this episode You CAN ask for what you want, and practicing that skill anywhere helps everywhere There is a normal - and wide - spectrum of desire. Intimacy can be just as important as sex. We all have different needs for touch, and there are so many factors that impact our current needs. How to increase desire, attraction, and interest in your partner. Wherever you are on any of this, you are normal. She’s also redefining what it means to be a “good girl.” Leah and I talk about body neutrality, how we live in a sex negative society, and why it’s important to examine the messaging we received about sex in childhood. Leah Carey is a sexual communication coach who helps women learn to communicate about sex so they can get what they really want in the bedroom. She is the creator and host of the podcast “Good Girls Talk About Sex” and can also be found on YouTube. Head over to www.fortiestories.com to say hello and share your thoughts. If you are enjoying this show, I’d be grateful if you would take a moment to leave a rating or a review and share with your friends.
Rewriting the Voice Story from the Inside Out Welcome to the show! Today's episode is a voice coaching episode and I will be analyzing our guest's voice. Our guest, Leah Carey, has an exceptionally fascinating field of work: sexual communication coach. She uses her experience and her voice on her podcast, Good Girls Talk About Sex, to work with women and couples to figure out what it is they want in the bedroom and how to advocate for that (and get it!). You will not see our guest but understand that it still takes a certain level of vulnerability to have your voice analyzed by a complete stranger. Prior to this interview, I had only spoken with her for 3 minutes. Keep in mind while listening that I have no notes, no idea what I will hear, write or fix during this episode. Listen along as Leah describes her journey from no idea how to express herself to being comfortable to advocating for herself to now working with me to make the outside voice match the inside transformation she’s had. The voice is the orchestra of the heart. In this episode I will help Leah reach her potential and reveal how she truly feels through her voice. Just as you would consult a medical professional for personal medical needs, keep in mind that diagnoses and techniques provided in this coaching session are not a one-size-fits-all. Oh libido, where are you? Will you ever come back or are you gone forever!? Sex is a topic that still makes some of us cringe, but why? We believe it is because it isn’t talked about enough and there is some stigma around women talking about sex. That is why we wanted to have Sexual Communication Coach, Leah Carey come on the show and give us some pointers on how to bring up sexual conversations with our partners. We dive into low libido, foreplay, what gets us in the mood and more. Our show is almost always safe to listen to with your kiddos around, but for this show, the content is geared towards adults so listen with caution if little ears are near. Leah shares her unique journey with sex and how she was able to overcome an abusive childhood to find herself again in her forties. I'm so proud of this interview with Leah Carey, Host of Good Girls Talk About Sex. She's an incredibly articulate and sensitive interviewer who gives women the opportunity to share their intimate thoughts and experiences related to sex. Her show is a guilty pleasure and a window into women's minds and sexual behavior. We discuss coming of age in an emotionally abusive relationship and how that impacted Carey's perspective on sex, her sexual choices, and shut her down from the experience of pleasure and voicing her desires. On the upside she's made this her career now and is sex positive - emphasizing communication for partners so everyone expresses their needs, has them met, and enjoys sex - that's the goal anyway. Leah Carey is a sexual communication coach who helps women learn to communicate about sex so they can get what they really want in the bedroom - rather than just accepting (tolerating!) what they're given. She is the creator and host of the podcast “Good Girls Talk About Sex” and can also be found on YouTube with the “Good Girls Talk About Sex” video series. Sexual freedom is a subject that is deeply personal to Leah because she spent most of her life being a VERY good girl. Most of the sex she had was either boring or painful, but she endured it because she wanted the cuddling that happened after. Having taken her own journey to sexual freedom, she is now passionate about breaking the silence, fear, and shame around women's sexuality and pleasure, and redefining what it means to be a “good girl.” You can find her online at https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.LeahCarey.com%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2bWuFiV81a5Aq5UnxBxxpD1CIx8pss7tFAFoDbMLqs-0YxFGgx7GqQeQc&h=AT1aPbqOy0GbRZIrpqKzWHkfj_WhyvZOL37ipMa6EEDvCNB-YDwakGEAej1bYlzIZNeKdJZ16PbZ7jdrg97FzYmRftdAjJZjBhG8F50VQjL29S9lDTrScAf34OD4r28Fz_0 (www.LeahCarey.com), and on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at @IAmLeahCarey. Leah Carey is helping us reclaim (or claim) our sexuality and helping us to understand that it's never too late to start getting the greatest amount of sexual pleasure possible. At 42 years old, she realized the power of her sexual identity for the first time, and since then she has made it her mission for couples everywhere to start getting what they truly want in the bedroom, and making it an easier topic to discuss even for the most hesitant and introverted personalities. We ask her a bunch of listener questions and share stories about how we can all start getting the most satisfaction from our sexual experiences. Leah Carey is a sexual communication coach and has her own podcast, "Good Girls Talk About Sex." In this podcast Leah talks about the importance of sexual communication if you are single or married. I must say this was the most interesting podcast I have done and one that Randy and I had the most fun with. While it is a serious topic, both Randy and I have a sense of humor that sometimes should be put on hold, take a listen and you will find out what I mean. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/natural-bliss/support
