Creating a Paradigm Shift in the Therapy Field Currently, the primary focus is on defining problems and Illnesses such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc. This follows the physical arena where physicians have studied what is wrong and then try to find ways to solve the issues. The question is why we are not more focused on mentally and physically healthy people and then translating that into care approaches based on a positive orientation. What is right with people rather than what is wrong. Learn more about John here: john@mindful-alternatives.com https://mindful-alternatives.com/about.htm

Grandparents for Vaccines is a nationwide nonprofit that aims to educate the current generation of parents about vaccine-preventable diseases. Launched in September, the group has produced videos of grandparents describing what it was like to endure or witness their friends, classmates and relatives battle illnesses such as polio, measles and pertussis before vaccines for them existed.   The group’s launch comes amid rising vaccine skepticism fueled by misinformation about the safety and efficacy of vaccines.  A recent poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation and The Washington Post showed that 1 in 6 parents in the US have delayed or skipped vaccines for their children. Teri Mills is a founding member of Grandparents for Vaccines and a retired public health nurse who was named "Oregon Nurse of the Year" in 2019 by the Oregon Nurse Foundation. She joins us along with Sheri Schouten, a retired public health nurse and former Oregon state lawmaker, to talk about their work with Grandparents for Vaccines.

Shattered Dreams—But Hope: Encouragement for Caregivers of Huntington's Disease and Other Progressive Illnesses by Laquita Higgs, Elton Higgs https://www.amazon.com/Shattered-Dreams-But-Hope-Encouragement-Huntingtons/dp/1400329523 Shattered Dreams–But Hope by Drs. Laquita and Elton Higgs, is a book of both testimony and advice: testimony born out of the school of trial and suffering, and advice born out of practical experience in being long-term caregivers. Laquita and Elton have for the last 26 years been caregivers to two adopted daughters with early onset Huntington's Disease (HD), which is hereditary, and they offer a gripping account of their extended experience in adjusting to the challenges of long-term caregiving, followed by sober practical counsel to others who are involved in similar caregiving experiences. A final chapter speaks specifically of the role of Christian faith in coping with the stresses of their long struggle. In the Appendices are a short talk given after Cynthia's funeral by her older sister Liann and several poems by Elton on the emotional impact of his and Laquita's relationship with their disabled daughters. The complexity of the story told by the Higgses is heightened by the fact that their two youngest adopted daughters are mother (Cynthia) and biological daughter (Rachel). Elton and Laquita adopted Cynthia as a baby, knowing that she had HD in her background but hoping and praying that she would not develop the disease. Her childhood was normal, but when she became an adolescent, she began to manifest behavioral aberrations that her parents later recognized as being consistent with early onset HD. At age 25, Cynthia was diagnosed as having the disease, and soon afterward she became pregnant with Rachel. Since it was apparent that she could not function as a single mother, Laquita and Elton agreed to adopt Rachel at birth. This action ushered them into a complicated care-giving relationship that has lasted for more than 25 years. Laquita and Elton emphasize the difficult but necessary development of trust in God's goodness and a deep conviction that He is at work even when we can perceive no immediate evidence of it. Especially poignant is their very personal confession of their mistakes in caring for their HD-affected daughters and their struggles to understand that HD, not mere perversity, was the primary source of their daughters' irrational and angry behavior. Thus, they had to accept that expecting their daughters to be normally responsible persons was both futile and unproductive. Instead, they had to learn simply to love them with God's love and to pray constantly for God's wisdom in carrying out their task. It is from this perspective of learning to survive through hardship that Laquita and Elton tell their story and offer both practical and spiritual counsel for caregivers everywhere. About the author I am a retired professor of English living in Jackson, MI, with my wife of almost 64 years, Laquita, who is also a retired professopr and writer. Saying Yes to Water and the Gospel: Dr. Pete Savard's JourneyDr. Pete Savard, a 1990 graduate of Cedarville University, never imagined his life would be defined by clean water and the Gospel. A nurse educator and medical innovator, Pete once designed mobile hospitals for the U.S. government. But when that chapter closed, God began to stir something deeper in his heart. What started as a broad vision to improve healthcare around the world soon narrowed into a single, life-sustaining mission: providing clean water to those in desperate need.Years ago, Pete faced a personal “Nineveh moment.” India — a hot, rice-laden, unfamiliar place — was not where he wanted to go. But God had opened the door. Pete said yes. He took that first trip with his daughter and an engineer, not knowing it would change everything. What he saw there was heartbreaking: children sick from sewage-filled water, mothers unable to work, fathers out of jobs due to typhoid.Every hour in India, 171 children under five die from dirty water — over 4,100 every day. Pete couldn't unsee that. He had to act. That first water purification project in India took three years to fund. Pete, by his own admission, is a “terrible fundraiser.” But God provided through unexpected gifts — even a check from a widow who had just lost her husband. The water plant opened, and lives began to change. Illnesses disappeared. Children returned to school. Parents returned to work. From that humble beginning, Global Water Consortium (GWC) has grown to serve over 4 million people through projects in India, Nepal, Honduras, and soon, Kenya. Each GWC site produces and sells clean water sustainably — millions of liters annually — while opening doors for Gospel conversations. In Kenya, Pete spoke to high schoolers about health, respect, and the love of Jesus. After two days, 416 students accepted Christ — and asked that a pastor visit their homes to share the Gospel with their families.Pete doesn't see himself as a preacher. “I know health,” he says. “God uses that.” His ministry's model is rooted in Romans 12 — using the gifts God has given to serve others. And the results? Physical health, spiritual hope, and communities transformed.Pete recently shared his story on the Cedarville Stories podcast. He said yes to God even when it was hard. And through his obedience, entire villages now drink safe water — and Living Water.https://share.transistor.fm/s/758c6c2dhttps://youtu.be/qCZCzf6-O5k

In this episode of the Thinking Talmudist Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores Parshas Chukas (Numbers 21:4–9), focusing on the episode of the poisonous serpents sent to punish the Israelites for complaining against God and Moshe. He connects this to Talmudic teachings (Pesachim 56a, Rosh Hashanah 29a) about King Chizkiyahu's destruction of the copper serpent and the book of remedies, emphasizing divine messages through affliction. Key points include:Parshas Chukas Context: The Israelites, impatient in the wilderness, complain about the lack of bread and water, slandering the manna (which adapts to any desired taste). God sends poisonous serpents as punishment, mirroring the primeval serpent's slander against God to Eve, whose punishment was tasteless food (dust). The complaint about manna's “insubstantial” nature reflects ingratitude, triggering a measure-for-measure punishment.Copper Serpent's Role: God instructs Moshe to create a copper serpent (nachash nechoshes) on a pole; those bitten who look at it with proper intention (kavanah) toward God are healed, not by the serpent itself but by divine will. This symbolizes looking upward to Hashem, akin to tzitzis' blue string reminding one of God's throne.Chizkiyahu's Actions (Pesachim 56a): King Chizkiyahu destroys the copper serpent, as later generations worshipped it as an idol, missing its purpose as a divine prompt for repentance. He also hides the book of remedies, which offered quick cures, because it prevented introspection and humility. The sages approve, as illnesses are divine messages to correct one's ways, not to be bypassed with shortcuts.Illness as a Divine Gift: Rabbi Wolbe cites Jacob's illness as the first in history, a divine gift allowing preparation for death through introspection and amends, unlike pre-Jacob sudden deaths (e.g., via sneezing, hence “gesundheit”). Illnesses, like the serpent's bites, are tailored to specific sins (e.g., lashon hara, reflected in the serpent's punishment), urging personal prophecy to decipher God's message.Personal Anecdote: Rabbi Wolbe shares a story of burning his hand while kashering his kitchen, experiencing excruciating pain. Through introspection, he identified a personal failing linked to his hand, and the pain miraculously subsided, reinforcing that afflictions are divine calls for correction.Broader Message: Every event, from illnesses to world news (e.g., a murder story on TV), is a divine mirror for self-improvement. Rabbi Wolbe warns against focusing on external cures (e.g., doctors, medicine) without addressing spiritual flaws, urging listeners to heed God's messages to avoid missing life's purpose. The episode concludes with a blessing for health and a call to recognize God's constant communication, encouraging proactive teshuvah to align with divine will._____________The Thinking Talmudist Podcast shares select teachings of Talmud in a fresh, insightful and meaningful way. Donald Trump suffered another "Senior moment" over the weekend when he shared an AI generated video of HIMSELF announcing that he was giving all Americans access to something called a "Med Bed," which is a magical creation that can cure all illnesses and even regrow missing limbs in a matter of hours. The beds, obviously, do not exist, and Trump never signed any order related to them, but that didn't stop the President of the United States from sharing the fake video to his own Truth Social account. In an interview on Sunday, shortly before he decided to deploy federal troops to Portland, Donald Trump appeared to admit that he's not only being manipulated by right wing propaganda, but that he's still aware enough to KNOW that he's being manipulated. Trump recalled a conversation with Oregon governor Tina Kotek, where he asked her "Am I seeing things on television that aren't actually happening?", and the answer to that is YES. Trump seems to know that he's not living in reality at the moment.Following the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey last week, Vice President JD Vance has announced that there are "certainly" going to be more indictments coming against Donald Trump's political enemies in the months and years to come. This admission shows how brazen the administration is becoming with their abuses of power, and it also shows the complete incompetence of the administration. If Vance had a brain, he would have realized that promising indictments instead of investigations is a sure-fire way to get whatever charges may come dropped almost immediately.Donald Trump launched a wild new conspiracy over the weekend that was so insane even his own sycophants couldn't allow it to stand. Trump falsely claimed that the FBI had agents planted at the Capitol Riot BEFORE the riot even took place, and he claimed that the government knew about it the whole thing (and obviously planned it.) Trump's own FBI director, Kash Patel, was forced to come out publicly and say that this is completely untrue, putting him at odds with his boss who doesn't like to be told that he is lying. Marjorie Taylor Greene is one of a handful of Republican lawmakers working with Democrats to force the release of the Epstein Files, and the Trump administration has been desperately trying to get her to stop it. But Greene has now made it crystal clear that she is NOT going to bow to White House pressure because she knows "who she works for." The only problem is that Greene still doesn't understand that the White House is acting on Trump's orders, and she is pretending that Trump is a victim in all of this.Text and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media! In this episode, we'll dive into the complicated topic of "Disability and Disputed Illnesses: Navigating Claims Without Full Medical Recognition."Some medical conditions cause symptoms so real and severe that they disrupt daily life, yet remain disputed or only partly recognized by mainstream medicine. For patients, it is not just a fight to be believed, it is also a fight to secure the disability benefits they need. With ERISA-governed Long-Term Disability insurance, the challenges are even greater. In this episode of Winning Isn't Easy, disability law expert Nancy L. Cavey examines one of the most difficult areas of disability claims: conditions the medical community has not fully accepted. From chronic Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome to mental health diagnoses such as dissociative identity disorder, adult ADHD, and PTSD outside of combat, Nancy explains why these claims are often denied and what you can do about it. You will learn how insurers view subjective symptoms like pain, fatigue, and cognitive fog, why strong documentation and physician support matter, and the strategies that can help prove the impact of these conditions on your ability to work. Nancy also shares a real case example that shows how persistence and preparation can turn the tide. If you are living with a condition the medical world questions but your symptoms are real, this episode will give you the tools to fight for the benefits you deserve. Winning is not easy, but with the right strategy, it is possible. In this episode, we'll cover the following topics:One - Disputed Physical ConditionsTwo - Disputed Mental ConditionsThree - Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS)Whether you're a claimant, or simply seeking valuable insights into the disability claims landscape, this episode provides essential guidance to help you succeed in your journey. In this episode, The First Lady of Nutrition welcomes Dr. Noel Baker, a respected functional medicine practitioner and one of the foremost protégés of Dr. Theodore Baroody, author of the groundbreaking book, The Hiatal Hernia Syndrome: The Mother of All Illnesses. Together, they explore a little-understood health issue—a hiatal hernia, which is essentially a misalignment of the stomach that can trigger a ripple effect of symptoms throughout the body. Ann Louise speaks from experience, having personally worked with Dr. Baker and experienced the healing process firsthand. A hiatal hernia is more than just a mechanical issue or a cause of common indigestion. It can be the hidden source behind a wide array of symptoms that many people—and their doctors—struggle to explain. This can include alarming symptoms that mimic heart attacks, a hijacked fight-or-flight response, disrupted vagus nerve function, trouble taking a deep breath and swallowing, plus a domino effect of stress-related imbalances throughout the body including anxiety. Listeners will also gain insight into the importance of the “alpha state,” the role of neurofeedback in restoring calm and nervous system balance, and how holistic practices like grounding, yoga, stretching—and even an unconventional method known as the “stomach egg”—can play a powerful role in the healing process. https://jo.my/0v1yui Heat Stress, Hydration & Working Outdoors: Recognizing Heat-Related Illnesses Working in high temperatures can be dangerous. Heat stress isn't just an outdoor problem. It can also happen inside a warehouse, especially when ventilation is poor or equipment generates excessive heat. Heat-related illnesses can escalate fast, so recognizing the signs and acting quickly is critical. One of the top priorities of a solid Safety Culture is keeping everyone healthy and alert in hot conditions. That starts with understanding what heat stress looks like and how to prevent it. Whether you're on the loading dock or deep inside storage areas, hydration and awareness can save lives. Here are a few tips to assist you with recognizing heat-related illnesses: Watch for Early Symptoms Dizziness, fatigue, and muscle cramps are often early signs of heat stress. If you notice these in yourself or someone else, act immediately. Know the Difference Between Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke Heat exhaustion often includes heavy sweating, nausea, and weakness. Heat stroke is far more severe. It can cause confusion, fainting, or seizures. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and needs immediate attention. Respond Quickly to Emergencies If someone shows signs of heatstroke, call emergency services immediately. Move them to a cool area. Remove extra clothing and use cool water or wet cloths to lower their body temperature. Monitor Yourself and Your Team Check in with coworkers throughout the shift. People often push through discomfort, which can be dangerous in the heat. A quick check can prevent a serious incident. Stay Ahead of Dehydration Drink water often, not just when you feel thirsty. Encourage others to do the same. Avoid energy drinks and soda, as they can increase the risk of dehydration. Heat-related illnesses don't happen instantly. They build up as the body struggles to regulate its temperature. That's why prevention and awareness are so important. Make it part of your routine to monitor facility temperatures, provide cool or shaded rest areas, and remind everyone to hydrate. By spotting the warning signs early and acting promptly, you can prevent minor problems from escalating into emergencies. Safety is a team effort, and that includes protecting one another from heat stress throughout the entire warehouse. Thank you for joining us for another episode of Warehouse Safety Tips. Until we meet next time - have a great week, and STAY SAFE! #Safety #SafetyFIRST #SafetyALWAYS #StaySafe #SafetyCulture #HeatStressPrevention #StayHydrated #WorkplaceSafety #HeatIllnessAwareness #SummerSafety
