A podcast for moms about the real, raw, and unscripted perspectives of guilt-free self-care by two moms across the globe. This unedited podcast is real life and their personal experiences told in friendly conversation style. Advocating for all moms who have mucked up their self care. There are so many others out there that aren't successfully solving the real problem of trying to figure out what self-care is. We want to bring to light the reality of what self-care can look like for moms who struggle to fit it in, don't know what will work for them, and the ways that it hasn't worked. We want to have conversations about the guilt we feel when we are pressured to mother ourselves when we don't know how and aren't given the support to in our society today.

Ever feel like the very act of planning self-care becomes another exhausting task on your to-do list? In this candid conversation, Jill and Linda explore the surprising paradox many moms face: sometimes our pursuit of self-care creates more pressure than relief. From decision fatigue to disappointment when plans fall through, we unpack why self-care sometimes feels like just another burden—and how to shift your approach for genuine restoration instead of more exhaustion.Episode Highlights:Delayed Exhaustion Is Real: Your body doesn't always process strain immediately. As Jill and Linda discovered, sometimes the exhaustion from challenging events hits hardest two days later—making preventative self-care even more important than reactive care.Decision Fatigue Matters: The mental load of deciding what self-care you need can itself become draining. As Linda points out, "Making the decisions to do self-care is exhausting," especially when you're already depleted.Flexibility Prevents Disappointment: When Jill's planned self-care night was canceled due to snow, she pivoted to a simpler alternative—early bedtime. Learning to adapt your self-care expectations helps prevent the emotional drain of disappointment.Quick Decisions Can Save Energy: Linda demonstrates the power of decisive action when she's depleted: "Toasted sandwiches for dinner, Bluey for the kids, and 30 minutes with my book." No overthinking required—just a rapid shift to protection mode.Self-Care Gets Easier: Both hosts agree that while self-care felt exhausting during early motherhood years, it becomes more intuitive and energizing as you develop your practice. What once drained you can become your source of restoration.Moving Forward:If you find yourself exhausted by the very thought of self-care, you're not alone—and we have solutions. The 100th episode of the mucked up my self-care podcast certainly aligned with our vision and realities. From technical hiccups to sick children in the background, our 100th episode celebration embodied everything the Mucked Up My Self Care Podcast stands for – real, interrupted, and beautifully imperfect self-care. Join hosts Jill and Linda as they reflect on their two-year journey, sharing vulnerable moments and profound revelations that have shaped not just their podcast, but their approach to motherhood, entrepreneurship, and self-care.Key TakeawaysSelf-care doesn't require perfection. Through 100 episodes and nearly 40 hours of recorded conversations, Jill and Linda have discovered that self-care isn't about yoga retreats and spa days. It's about finding small moments throughout your day – even while picking up dog poop barefoot in the grass – and embracing the interruptions rather than fighting against them. We're all "born" alongside our children. As Jill beautifully reflected, "I was born at the same time that my son was born as a mom." Each new phase of motherhood requires a rebirth, learning to process emotions and prioritize ourselves in entirely new ways. This perspective gives us permission to be beginners again and again.Creating your village is essential work. The podcast itself has become a form of community care, bridging the gap for mothers seeking connection. As one listener noted, "It took a while to create a village because I couldn't find a village." This shared experience of searching for and building support systems validates the struggle many mothers face.Reliability comes in unexpected forms. Despite the chaos of life with children, recording 100 episodes across 677 days has become a source of reliability and self-care for both hosts. Their weekly conversations have fostered friendship, accountability, and a space to prioritize themselves amid the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship. Our approach to self-care evolves. From basic needs like showering in the early postpartum days to embracing "rage vacuuming" as a legitimate form of emotional release, the hosts have expanded their definition of self-care. These evolving perspectives remind us that self-care looks different in different seasons.Keep Unstucking Your Muck!As we celebrate this milestone, we invite you to join our self-care village for the next 100 episodes. As we all navigate the exhaustion and demands of motherhood, finding ways to share the load with others isn't just practical—it's essential for our wellbeing. From carpooling arrangements to podcast partnerships, this conversation reveals how connecting with others helps lighten our burdens while strengthening our relationships.Episode Highlights:Collaboration as Load-Sharing: Discover how simple arrangements like carpooling for kids' activities can create breathing room in your schedule while building community with other parents.Start Small and Time-Limited: When beginning new collaborative efforts, consider starting with a defined timeframe (like a 6-week commitment) to reduce pressure and make it easier to say "yes."Relationship First, Plan Second: The strongest collaborations protect the relationship above all else. As Linda points out, "The plan is something that we just follow the rules on so we can protect our relationship."Finding the Overlap: Before diving into collaboration, identify where your "whys" match up with potential partners. Jill and Linda share how they used a Venn diagram to discover shared goals before starting their podcast.Accept Help Without Guilt: Jill's example of neighborhood childcare swapping reminds us that allowing others to help isn't a burden—it often provides mutual benefits that serve everyone involved.Moving Forward:If you're feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list, consider what burdens you could share with someone else this week. In this candid conversation, Jill and Linda dive deep into what it truly means to practice intentional self-care as busy moms. Moving beyond the superficial "just take a walk" advice, they explore how being purposeful with our self-care can transform everyday moments into meaningful experiences that fill our cups – even when things don't go as planned (like shower time with toddlers!).Key TakeawaysThe Power of Purpose in Self-CareNot all self-care is created equal. While activities like walking or spending time outdoors can be beneficial, setting a clear intention behind these moments – like using a walk to clear your mind or connect with your child – can dramatically enhance their impact on your wellbeing.Finding Self-Care in Unexpected PlacesSelf-care doesn't always need to be flamboyant or done in solitude. Sometimes it's found in multitasking moments, like grounding yourself while doing yard work, or discovering joy in a shared shower with your little ones when your original "me-time" plans get derailed. The Connection FactorFor many moms, meaningful connection is a vital form of self-care. Whether it's a half-hour chat with a friend or participating in a mastermind group, these social interactions can revitalize us in unique ways that complement our solo self-care practices.Managing Expectations vs. Setting IntentionsWhile having intentions for your self-care is valuable, setting rigid expectations about how you'll feel afterward can lead to disappointment. The key is to remain flexible and open to the benefits that emerge naturally from your self-care practices.Your Self-Care Journey ContinuesRemember, your self-care journey is uniquely yours – what works for someone else might not work for you, and that's perfectly okay. Ever feel like you're juggling a million pieces of your life, trying to keep them all perfectly balanced—only to have a toddler flood the laundry room or a child need an emergency trip to the hospital? Jill and Linda dive into the myth of balance and explore a more realistic approach to self-care for moms. Through their own daily struggles and victories, they reveal why chasing perfect balance might be holding us back from true self-care.Key Insights from This Episode:Rethinking Balance vs. HarmonyThe traditional idea of "balance" implies equal parts and perfect equilibrium—something that rarely exists in motherhood. Instead, consider viewing self-care through the lens of harmony, where different elements of life flow together naturally, even if not equally.Energy-Based Self-CareYour self-care needs shift with your energy levels. Some days require more intentional care than others. Learning to read and respond to your own energy patterns can help you better integrate self-care into your daily life, rather than forcing it into predetermined time slots.Embracing Flexibility Over FairnessLet go of the idea that self-care must be "earned" or balanced against your productivity. Your need for self-care isn't a transaction—it's a fundamental part of motherhood that deserves space regardless of what you've "accomplished" that day.Seasonal Self-CareWhat works during school term might not work during holidays. What serves you during toddlerhood might not serve you during the teen years. Allow your self-care practice to evolve with your family's changing seasons and needs.Moving Forward TogetherRemember, you're not alone in this journey of figuring out what self-care looks like in the beautiful messiness of motherhood. Whether you're stealing five minutes in the bathroom (usually with an audience!) or finding creative ways to recharge between school pickup and activities, every small act of self-care counts. We'd love to hear your thoughts! As we approach our 100th episode, we're inviting listeners to share their questions and experiences. Self-care has become quite a buzz word these days and we are often led to believe that self-care can cure burn out, depression, anxiety, and other effects of living in a society built on imperialism. The narrative suggests that these issues can be easily solved by finding the perfect self-care routine or just setting better boundaries (another form of "self-care"). However, this oversimplifies the root causes of such problems and shifts the blame onto individuals rather than addressing systemic issues. We both understand that postpartum extends beyond the immediate post-birth phase and can last several years. In this episode we dive into a topic close to our hearts and talk about:Accepting help! It can be really be the hardest thing to do at the best of times.Nap when the baby naps. While this seems simple, the reality can often be far from it. The temptation to use this time to catch up on chores or indulge in some "me-time" activities often overrides the need for rest.Taking it slowly when and where possible and remembering the beauty and simplicity of stepping outside for fresh air and getting into the sun.Reminding yourself that this is a phase that will not be forever.Nutrition and water. If you're breastfeeding, staying hydrated is even more crucial.Carrying baby if this works for you. It allows you to keep your baby close while freeing up your hands to accomplish other tasks. Cooking dinner, cleaning, or even working becomes more manageable, and you can move freely without constantly worrying about where the baby is.Embracing the mess and recognising small victories.Leaning on your community, family, friends and support groups. Both Jill and Linda are passionate about advocating for the need to find practical ways to care for yourself amidst the demanding early years of motherhood. According to Google: self-care is done with the intention of caring for yourself, not with the intention to harm or take from others. Being selfish means there's a desire to take from others, often to their detriment. However, self-care is about replenishing your resources without depleting someone else's. Do you agree? Jill and Linda are discussing this definition and more popular cultural ideas in today's episode as we discover:How we've adapted to incorporating others into our self-care (particularly with children and work commitments)What self-care means to us individually and how our deeper understanding has helped our energy levels for us and those surrounding us.When our needs for self-care can become unhealthy.
