THE TESTAMENTS – “Stadium” – As the Aunts sift through ancestry records to finalize matches, Agnes plots for her chance at love. Meanwhile, Lydia contemplates the choices that shaped her rise in Gilead. (Disney/Russ Martin)CHASE INFINITI What an episode! In “Stadium”, we finally looked into Lydia’s backstory. We’d gotten a peek only once during the entire run of The Handmaid’s Tale, but now we know where Lydia’s journey to becoming Aunt Lydia truly began. No one was more surprised than your hosts to see that Commander Judd had been there since the beginning. For better or worse, Aunt Lydia became what she needed to become as her drive to live her life according to her “resolve” fell to survival mode. We think Aunt Lydia has secretly switched back to “resolve” mode, but time will tell. THE TESTAMENTS – “Stadium” – As the Aunts sift through ancestry records to finalize matches, Agnes plots for her chance at love. Meanwhile, Lydia contemplates the choices that shaped her rise in Gilead. (Disney/Steve Wilkie)THE TESTAMENTS Meanwhile, during the current timeline, the Aunts converged and created matches between the new greens and the eligible commanders. Think of how much harder the process must have been, given their lack of access to technology! By hand, the Aunts must manage not only the political impacts of their decisions, but the limited gene pool in Gilead’s reproducing population. I wonder how close the relations can get before they nix a match. THE TESTAMENTS – “Stadium” – As the Aunts sift through ancestry records to finalize matches, Agnes plots for her chance at love. THE TESTAMENTS – “Green Tea” – As the Green girls gather for a tea party, Daisy struggles to keep on task, while Agnes begins to understand what being a woman in Gilead means. (Disney/Russ Martin)HEATHER KOSIK, LUCY HALLIDAY This week’s episode of The Testaments, “Green Tea”, takes us further into Gilead’s arcane traditions with the plums hosting high tea as an expression of thanks to the Aunts. BUT there are also subtleties with lasting consequences for even the slightest misstep. Needless to say, the girls are on edge. Meanwhile, Daisy has no official role in the tea. She attends and observes the behind-the-scenes activities… and snoops around and speaks with Garth, the young Mayday agent masquerading as a Mackenzie family guardian. She’s getting nervous that Gilead’s forces are tightening the noose around her as she sees her Mayday comrades swinging from the gallows. Needless to day, she is also on edge. You know who’s not on edge? Aunt Lydia. She’s just here for the cake.

THE HANDMAID'S TALE Season 6 Episode 8 - “Exodus” - June and Moira execute their dangerous plan. Serena makes a big commitment. (Disney/Steve Wilkie). The revolution has begun. In The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 8 "Exodus", the carefully plotted rebellion against Gilead erupts during Serena Joy's wedding, shifting the tide of power in ways we've long hoped—and feared. On this week's podcast, Paul and Caroline unpack the episode's three central storylines and what they mean for the final stretch of the series. The episode unfolds through three distinct perspectives: Serena's Wedding:It's the centerpiece of the rebellion. The plan to bomb Jezebels has been replaced with something quieter but just as deadly: poison. Serena's maroon wedding cake becomes a focal point—rich in symbolism, according to Paul and Caroline, who debate its possible meanings. The poison weakens the guests, setting the stage for the handmaids to strike later that night. But what comes next for Serena? In the final scenes inside her and Wharton's new home, we're left wondering: Is she a survivor, a pawn, or a player? Paul and Caroline discuss June's transformation into a true field general—steely, smart, and still deeply human. The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 3 - “Devotion” (Hulu)ANN DOWD The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 3, “Devotion,” brings the action, the politics, and the heartbreak. Hosts Paul and Caroline are back to unpack it all in our latest podcast episode. This time, June and Nick join forces on a high-stakes mission: rescuing Luke and Moira, who are trapped in no man's land after their work with Mayday draws the deadly attention of Gilead's guardian patrols. The tension is thick, and the emotional stakes are even higher. Meanwhile, in New Bethlehem, Commander Lawrence and Serena Joy begin their uneasy alliance as they host international delegates. The goal? Repatriate American refugees back to Gilead—under the pretense of safety and peace. But can such a place ever truly be safe? And back in the heart of Gilead, Aunt Lydia makes a devastating discovery: Janine has been sent to Jezebels. For Lydia, it's a cruel betrayal of everything she believed about Janine's value—and a sign that the system she's long upheld may be more broken than she can justify. In this podcast episode, we explore the theme of devotion—to people, causes, and institutions—and how that devotion is tested at every turn. With thrilling rescues, shifting alliances, and moral reckoning, “Devotion” delivers a heavy, layered hour of television. The final season of 'The Handmaid's Tale' arrives, more than two years after the conclusion of the fifth season. While the show aims to wrap the story of June Osborne, fans of the show do have more to look forward to as a spinoff series based on Margaret Atwood's novel "The Testaments" has been given the green light. Anyway, Tohru got notice last chapter that her grandfather's renovations are done, so she's moving out of the Sohma house! Today we drop the latest episode of our character analysis series. On this episode, we'll be discussing Aunt Lydia, one of the most…unique characters in The Handmaid's Tale television show on Hulu, played by the incredible Ann Dowd. We were first introduced to Lydia in the very first episode of Season 1 as the terrifying “Aunt” who had Janine's eye removed at the first sign of an attitude from her. That made quite the first impression and she has continued to make many more memorable impressions as the show has continued through Season 5 so far. Eventually though, eccentric as it was, in some ways her repetitive behavior allowed both June and the audience to get a little bit of a handle on her motivations. In this episode we discuss those in depth. While we endeavored not to discuss The Testaments plot for the sake of those who haven't read it, we have read it, and there are inevitable implications for her future in our discussion - so please don't listen to this episode if you don't want any of those! Whether you agree or disagree with our discussion, come find us on social media and share YOUR thoughts! We'd love to hear them and we post new content weekly while we wait for Season 6. So come find us on Instagram and Twitter….err X! And come back in another month or so for our next episode analysis - on one Luke Bankhole.
Today we drop the fourth episode of our character analysis series. On this episode, we'll be discussing the complicated and painfully pragmatic Commander Joseph Lawrence on The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu, played by one of our absolute favorite actors, Bradley Whitford. Though they're both hilarious, Bradley's performance is all the more astonishing when you realize in what extreme opposite realms Whitford's own politics and persona exist from Commander Lawrence's, despite Bradley embodying him to absolute perfection on screen. Lawrence's inclusion in the show came late in Season 2, but delivered a dose of eccentricity and levity that we hadn't even realized we so desperately needed. And he's continued to deliver that throughout the end of Season 5, keeping us laughing at his sarcastic quips despite the trauma of Gilead's hellscape surrounding them. Join us as we discuss how Lawrence has kept us on our toes since the moment he bounded down those stairs, question his ultimate loyalties and examine his deepening relationships with all of the characters on The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu. Whether you agree or disagree with our discussion, come find us on social media and share YOUR thoughts! We'd love to hear them and we post new content daily while we wait the long wait for Season 6. So come find us on Instagram and Twitter….err X! And check back soon for our next episode analysis - on another extraordinarily complicated character - Aunt Lydia!
House GOP selected Steve Scalise to drive their clown car. Republican whackjob Nancy Mase played the victim by wearing a "scarlet letter." Governor Puddin' Fingers AkA DeSantis may bow out of the race sooner rather than later. A MAGAT pastor hoped the war in Israel would bring on the return of Christ. Aunt Lydia, AKA Sarah Huckabee Sanders, finds herself in a deepening scandal involving a really pricey podium. Republican Rep Lyin' George Santos was busted charging tens of thousands of dollars on donor credit cards. An alligator was rescued from the home of a reptile hoarder. Boeberr E. Lee finalized her divorce by giving her new ex-husband a sloppy public kiss. The leader of the Texas GOP was at an event that boasted supreme loads Kyle Rittenhouse and Hitler-wanna-be Nick Fuentes.

This week is Dana's pick: Hereditary (2018). We all know she loves a good creepy possession film. Kyp still needs a sippy cup for her wine. The girls share their own familial grief experiences & how they dealt. Aunt Lydia is a bad person in this movie, too. This episode we experience chocoholics around dead people & things. A king named Paimon. Unnecessary naked smiling people. After a Costco sized bottle of wine Dana starts to pass out again. What happens in the alphabet after Gen Z?

Trae joins the podcast this week to talk about S5 E9 - Allegiance - of The Handmaid's Tale. We talk about how the show has evolved into more political maneuvers, how much we detest Mrs. Wheeler, awkward marriage proposals, how both Gilead and Americans desire to use June as a political pawn, what Aunt Lydia may have planned for Janine, and more.
When Ann Dowd first appeared as Aunt Lydia in Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale," her character was one of the most repugnant on the show, which is set in an alternative world where society is structured around religious fundamentalism and run by violent misogynists. But Lydia is changing. Ann Dowd joins us to discuss the new season of "The Handmaid's Tale."

This week, Ashley begins a four-part series on LGBT PRIDE by deconstructing the purity culture. Check out the full ABC segment on purity balls from 2014 and the full interview of Margaret Attwood on her book "The Handmaid's Tale" from the View in 2019. We have just watched episode 9 of season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale, which is called 'Progress'. It's written by Aly Monroe and Eric Tuchman, and directed by Elisabeth Moss: June and Luke work together to save Hannah, reaching out to Lawrence and Nick for help. Serena and Fred greet unexpected visitors from Gilead. Janine tries to assist Aunt Lydia when a Handmaid-in-training goes on a hunger strike at the Red Centre. We're one episode away from the finale! Where can this go? Let's recap and speculate like there's no tomorrow. We have just watched episode 8 of season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale, which is called 'Testimony'. It's written by Kira Snyder, and directed by Elisabeth Moss: June confronts Fred and Serena in court and challenges Emily to face a painful reminder of her Gilead past. Lawrence presents Aunt Lydia with a newly captured, familiar Handmaid. (Natalie can't contain her excitement about that last part). There is so much to unpack this week, as we explore this important episode's exploration of what 'justice' looks like for the victim-survivors of Gilead. Let's get into it. Welcome back to Eyes on Gilead, our weekly podcast dedicated The Handmaid's Tale. There's a LOT going on in this show and we think it helps to talk it out after every episode. Today, we are recapping episodes 1 and 2 of season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale. Be sure to watch both episodes, as we will analyse them back-to-back. Spoilers, obviously. In these episodes: On the run after the end of Season 3, an injured June and the fugitive Handmaids find refuge at a farm, where the 14-year-old Wife nurses June back to health. June restores her role as the women's leader. In Gilead, an imprisoned Lawrence tries to avoid a death sentence, and Aunt Lydia reels from the loss of 86 children on Angels' Flight. The combative Waterfords, in custody in Toronto, learn of June's feat. THEN June plots revenge at the local Jezebels, before she and the Handmaids plan to leave the farm for the next safe house. In Toronto, Moira deals with the fallout of June's choices, and Serena and Fred are bound together by a miracle. With two episodes to recap, let's get into it.
We have just watched episode 3 of season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale, which is called 'The Crossing'. It's written by Bruce Miller and directed by Elisabeth Moss (perhaps you've heard of her): Captured by Gilead, June faces a vengeful Aunt Lydia and endures a torturous interrogation. Nick and Lawrence collaborate to protect June. In Toronto, Luke struggles with how to help June and Hannah. This episode has so much to talk about, so let's get into it. Spoilers, obviously.
In a supersized season finale podcast, the Eyes On Gilead team - Fiona, Natalie, Sana and Haidee – are joined by several hundred 'Handmaid's Tale' super fans and fellow resistors (...and one Aunt Lydia) to look back over season 3: we indulge in wild speculation about what fate awaits June when we return for season 4; we scrutinise Serena's storyline; and there's a meeting of the Nick Blaine Appreciation Society. An audience Q&A keeps us all on our toes, we break some news about the future of Eyes On Gilead, and we all get a cute #babyGreta cameo to send us on our way. (Recorded live at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville on Sunday 18 August. We met on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, and pay our respects to all generations of their elders).
