What's the biggest thing standing between you and your goals as a run coach? Your own mind drama. How does mind drama show up in your run coaching business? Self sabotage. But it's not actually super obvious.Subtly, mind drama can look like: -Comparing yourself to other coaches-Working on athlete schedules and coming up with new resources instead of doing follow ups or marketing -Not charging enough-Taking more & more certifications -Not investing in coaching or following through with coaching-Convincing yourself you're too busy in other areas of life to focus on growing -Doing busy work tasks instead of prioritizing the things that actually move the business forward No human is immune from it, but being able to recognize & deal with it is key to continued growth in you business and in your personal life. This is a bit more of a personal episode as I share a recent struggle my daughter faced and bring it back to the context of the fears we face in our business. Also - exciting announcement at the beginning of the episode - I am speaking at the RRCA National Convention. Please let me know if you'll be there! Thanks for listening! Afraid to get super specific with who you work with as a run coach? Well, Lisa Pozzoni is an example of someone who has niched way down & truly knows the desires & struggles of her ideal athlete. And that athlete doesn't fit the mold of the "typical runner" which is why her community is such an attractive place for those who fit in there. Lisa is the owner and founder of The Running University and the TRU Tribe Team. She is also a ChiRunning/ChiWalking Master Instructor. It took Lisa Pozzoni a while to find her niche, but once she found it, she was able to create a thriving community of female runners aged 50+ that has nothing to do with setting PRs. Her motto is: “Helping women over 50, find the joy in walking and running.” Lisa and I also discuss marketing to female runners over 50 and how she uses YouTube and her newsletter to communicate & share her community. We talk about the biggest struggles she's faced in her 17 years of coaching and how things have changed for her & her business over the years.I hope this episode inspires you to lean into your unique personality, interests and passions as a run coach. You want to help runners, but it feels hard to get runners to coach right!? Marketing yourself as a run coach is different than other businesses . You're not an influencer. Good news - someone asked about your run coaching! You either got an e-mail, a private message, or someone filled out a form on your website and they may want to hire you! But now what? On this episode I cover: What to say to someone when they want more information on your run coaching. What NOT to say to someone when they want more information on your run coaching. How to transition a conversation to a discovery call. Questions to ask in a conversation or on a discovery call. When to bring up the price of your run coaching. What to say if someone is not a good fit for your coaching. Now you know what to say when you get a lead, but how do you get more leads for your run coaching business? That's what I teach you in the Runner Rising Academy, the only business growth program for run coaches. Reels are the BEST way for run coaches to reach new runners on Instagram. With reels, you can reach thousands and even millions more people than follow you with one reel. Yet reels can feel confusing, overwhelming and frustrating at times, right!? You can spend a lot of time on a reel only for it to....flop. It can feel like no one cares and that hurts! I get it - I used to resist reels and feel like I really sucked at them (I HATE lip syncing and dancing). The good news is, there ARE strategies to getting better at making reels that reach more of runners & bring more of your ideal athlete to your page. I'll even give you the proof based on my new instagram account which has allowed me to reach 400X more people than follow me. In this episode, I cover 3 reasons why your reels aren't getting many views and how to change that! If you want 25 free reel hooks for run coaches, use this link to download this free resource: https://runnerrising.com/free-resource-instagram-reels-hooks-for-run-coaches/
I've paid 4 different run coaches this year to help me with aspects of my running - let's pretend we're on a long run together and I'm telling you why! On this more off the cuff & real talk episode, I talk about why I hired each of these coaches in my quest to break through a plateau and finally get to the start line of the Boston Marathon, a 12 year in the making goal. The goal of this podcast is for you to get an inside look at the decision making process of a real athlete and to help you apply YOUR unique coaching offer. Plus, I just think it's interesting to hear the inside scoop on someone's buying habits & hear which coaches they hired (I DO name them!). You'll learn the things I cared about the most when hiring a coach, why price ultimately was not a limiting factor, and what was the "tipping point" to get me to hire them. I also include a short rant on why I don't believe in result guarantees in coaching. PS If you were interested in working with Paul at the Balanced Runner or referring him to any of your athletes, go to https://www.tbrunner.com/ & use code Fitnessfatale for 25% off first month for the TBR membership.

As with running, there are A LOT of things that go into running a successful run coaching business. It can be hard at times to know where to focus your time. On this episode of the Runner Rising Podcast, I help run coaches do a self assessment to determine where you may need to spend time and/or resources to improve. The truth is, most people tend to spend the most time on the things they enjoy and are easy in their business. When you can get a clear picture of ALL the required pieces of the puzzle that you need to grow, and start to fill in the gaps, you can start making significant progress. On this episode you will learn about and rate yourself on 7 components of a successful run coaching business: 1. Audience Size 2. Audience Fit 3. Messaging 4. Offer Strength 5. Sales Skills 6. Pricing 7. Coaching If you found value in this episode, I would love for you to give the podcast a 5 star review and/or share it with your run coaching friends or community members. Does it feel scary to choose a niche in your run coaching business? Like maybe you're leaving runners out when you narrow down who you work with and how you market yourself online? On this episode of the Runner Rising Academy podcast, I interview a recent graduate of the Runner Rising Academy, Dafne Valle. Dafne joined RRA just 1 month after completing her RRCA run coach certification. She had no idea where to start, was hesitant to share photos of herself on social media, and was not planning to niche down. However, within 1 month of joining RRCA, she not only chose a niche but got her first 3 clients by specializing in Run Disney races. During this interview, we discuss how to choose a niche, why it can feel scary to decide to help just one type of runner (and why you will still get clients outside of your niche anyway!), and more. Dafne also shares her experience in the Runner Rising Academy, sharing that she feels the program helped her learn more in 3 months than she likely would have in years on her own. The September Cohort of the Runner Rising Academy, the only business growth program for Run Coaches, is now enrolling! This 3 month small group program will help you create a marketing system to help you bring in new run coaching clients month after month. You will get trainings & resources AND individual feedback and support in this small group environment and make powerful connections with other motivated run coaches. You can save $500 when you join by Monday, September 16th at midnight and enrollment officially closes on September 19th at midnight. What is the secret to getting your run coaching clients to never leave?! While we can't expect EVERY athlete to stick with us forever, we do hope they will stay with us a while. When I met Jessica at the RRCA convention, she mentioned to me that she rarely has spots on her own run coaching roster because her clients rarely leave. I immediately knew that I had to have her on to spill her secrets! In this interview with run coach Jessica Reyes, we talk all about retention. After learning how Jessica got into run coaching and how she found her first client, we discuss: 1) The reason why Jessica believes she rarely has an athlete stop working with her 2) Why Jessica requires a minimum time commitment to work with her 3) Prepaid vs. monthly payments & tiered coaching offers 4) Raising prices with current clients 5) Struggles that Jessica has had as she's grown her run coaching business to full time (and beyond - she not only coaches her own athletes but has founded Sugar Runs so she can help MORE runners) I think you'll really enjoy this honest conversation!
