In this episode of the Multifamily Collective, Mike explores the meaning and significance of four essential leadership qualities: teaching, training, coaching, and mentoring. Although these terms may appear interchangeable, each serves a distinct purpose ineffective leadership and personal development. **Teaching: The process of imparting knowledge from one individual to another. **Training: The practice of building skills through repetition until actions become second nature. **Coaching: The act of guiding thought processes and decision-making in real-time. **Mentoring: The process of clarifying a legacy and assisting others in developing long-term strategies for their future. These roles build upon one another, creating a comprehensive leadership style that empowers both your team and yourself to grow, succeed, and make a lasting impact. Aimee Spector operates at 110% and 100 miles per hour in everything she does and there is no off switch; which I very much appreciate. She has the best laugh but she is also passionately determined to drive herself, and her teammates, to peak performance… which may not always have her teammates laughing. From her career as an educator to running a non-profit fundraiser for over a decade, to running ultramarathons and paddling countless channel crossings, Aimee is all-in on the things that drive her; family, athletic achievements and adventure, service to others, community and way more. Aimee's story is a damn good one that will get you fired up to get after it; whatever “it” is for you.

Dean's Chat hosts, Drs. Jeffrey Jensen and Johanna Richey welcome Dr. Peter Wishnie! He is a physician coach making tremendous inpact on the lives and practices of his colleagues! Dr. Wishnie states, "I was 29 years old and just finished my residency program in podiatry. I was very close to moving to Rhode Island from New York to work for another doctor. At the very last moment I changed my mind and said, “I want to be my own boss.” A few months later I purchased a practice in New Jersey. I had no clue how to run a business. I just knew this is what I wanted. To be my own boss and make my practice truly mine. Between student loans, the purchase price of the practice, and using up a credit line, I was in a $300,000 hole before I even saw my first patient. I thought I was buying a practice that had a good steady patient flow. However, right before closing, the previous owner started discharging the patients. The practice was not as viable as I thought. I was losing about $7500 a month for three months in a row. I ate through the credit line loan. I knew this could not continue like this and something had to change. Coaching & Perseverance...I started reading book after book, hired a business coach, and did whatever I needed to do to make this work. Failure was not an option. We put in systems and workflows, learned the key KPIs to measure and how to analyze them, and how to hire the right team to make this work. After one year, I netted more money than the previous owner did in any one of his 17 years of working. I have been in business for over 33 years, and I have made multiple 7 figures for 30 consecutive years landing me in the top 1% in my field. During these years I have learned key secrets that have helped me work a lot less and while growing the business year after year. In 2022, I sold the business for $2 million more than I paid for it. The reason I sold it was mainly because my passion is now to help other businesses learn to have the life they so deserve and desire. We became business owners or leaders not to be slaves to your jobs but to have the freedom to enjoy our family, hobbies, and friends. I want to help you live your best life." Welcome to the Arete Coach Podcast, hosted by Severin Sorensen, with an episode titled, "The Art of Coaching and Harnessing the Power of Client Metaphors." In this episode, recorded on April 12, 2024, we are honored to have Lyssa DeHart, a Master Certified Coach (MCC), Speaker, Author, and Coach Mentor. Lyssa is renowned for her expertise as an Executive Coach, Leadership Coach, and host of the Coaching Studio Podcast. Lyssa DeHart's transition from therapist to Master Certified Coach offers a compelling story of professional evolution, underlining the transferability of skills between helping professions. As a therapist, Lyssa refined her ability to listen deeply, discern patterns, pose transformative questions, and steer clients toward self-awareness, all of which have greatly enriched her coaching practice. This seamless skill transfer showcases how therapeutic expertise can enhance coaching effectiveness, especially in facilitating clients' journeys toward self-improvement and realization. Exploring the distinctions between therapy and coaching, Lyssa emphasizes that while therapy aims to help clients move from dysfunction to functionality, coaching targets individuals who are already functioning well but aspire to achieve higher levels of growth, performance, and fulfillment. Her own professional shift not only exemplifies the broader impacts possible in coaching but also highlights how coaches can empower individuals to author more impactful and meaningful narratives for their lives. This perspective offers a nuanced understanding of the complementary roles of therapy and coaching. A unique aspect of Lyssa's coaching technique is her strategic use of metaphors, a topic she elaborates on in her book, "Light Up, The Science of Coaching with Metaphors." By tuning into and exploring the metaphorical expressions her clients naturally use, she facilitates insightful and deeply resonant dialogues that significantly advance client understanding and development. This approach underscores the power of metaphors in communicating complex inner realities and sparking profound personal insights, an approach that not only defines Lyssa's coaching style but also serves as inspiration for others in the field. Beyond her direct client interactions, Lyssa is deeply committed to contributing to the coaching profession through mentoring, assessing, and providing thought leadership. Her efforts to nurture the growth of upcoming coaches, particularly those seeking International Coach Federation (ICF) credentials, highlight her dedication to enhancing the profession's quality globally. Her emphasis on the joys of laughter, the value of relationships, and maintaining an uplifting spirit in both personal and professional life further enriches her narrative, offering a holistic view of how joy and human connections are integral to successful coaching. Lyssa's story and insights not only inspire current and aspiring coaches but also reflect the profound, multifaceted impact of the coaching profession. Memorable quotes include: "I am a collaborative truth teller and thought partner who forms deep relationships that support my clients to grow past their limiting narratives so they can confidently excel at life, love, work, and craft a story worth living." - Lyssa DeHart "Deep belly laughs. I think that all of us need something that is for us, the thing that when life tilts on its axis will bring us back into balance." - Lyssa DeHart "Not my monkeys, not my circus. It reminds me, this is not my life right here that we're talking about. This is somebody else's experience and it's a journey they need to go on. So how do I hold that space?" - Lyssa DeHart The Arete Coach Podcast seeks to explore the art and science of executive coaching. You can find out more about this podcast at aretecoach.io. The Arts are widely recognised as a unique tool for human expression and offer a valuable contribution to society. They define our humanity. For anyone working in the Arts, it is a wonderful and fulfilling profession. But a creative or performance career will present considerable emotional challenge. Navigating an industry with precarious employment opportunities means that artists (on and off the stage), may experience mental health concerns, anxiety or stress. Artists are required to manage a role that brings huge expectations from colleagues, self and potential employers. Work is not guaranteed, and this can place huge demands on day to day survival. Resilience, belief, and confidence are sought in creative industries, contrasted alongside a need for vulnerability, which provides a window to access the emotional states that support creativity and authentic performance. The Arts are a very human expression.Sophie Carter is a qualified counsellor and coach, who supports those who work within all sectors of the arts. She discovered a passion for music and performing at a young age. Finding her calling in theatre as a teenager, she never looked back and went on to enjoy a nearly 20-year career as a professional actor, singer, and dancer. Sophie has also had roles behind the scenes as a stage manager, an assistant director, an assistant producer, and a vocal coach. She continues to perform regularly in the contemporary live music scene and has ridden the turmoil of the Covid and post-Covid era alongside her fellow performers in an ever-shifting landscape. With two decades experience working in the professional theatre, music and film/tv industries, Sophie brings her lived experience with the arts to the counselling experience to help her clients navigate this wonderful but challenging industry. Welcome to the Greg Bennett Show, Trevor Hendy.
After our first podcast together, Adam and I knew we had more to talk about. And damn, we sure did. I kicked things off by asking "now what?" I'm almost three years sober, I've settled into this life, so "now what?" What followed was a conversation about Fulfillment vs. Success, God, Perfectionism, Social Media, Doing Things We Don't Want to Do, Failure (fear of it), and believe me, there's even more. Coaches can constantly be learning from each other, not just within their own sport, but from around the coaching community. In 2018, The Author Incubator was ranked #275 on the Inc. 500 fastest-growing companies and #87 on Entrepreneur Magazine's Entrepreneur 360. Angela won the Stevie Award's Coach/Mentor of the Year Award and her program, The Author's Way, was named Coaching Program of the Year and she was named by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the top 10 most inspiring entrepreneurs to watch – one of only 2 women. I've seen Angela's work online for years as we've circled each other around various mutual friends. For a while now I've had a sense that she could be a really great guest for the show. Then, about a year ago I started noticing how she was showing up differently online. She talked really openly about her autism diagnosis at age 39. She was writing incredible posts about how she experiences the world as a person with autism. I have learned so much from her. So, I finally reached out to ask her to come join us in the SMA. I am so grateful she said yes. This is an incredible conversation. Listen in to hear Angela share: What led to her autism diagnosis at the age of 39 How her diagnosis allowed her to feel like she could finally start her life and her career What masking is and how people with various neurodivergences mask in order to fit into the world How she learned to set boundaries to self-regulate in a world that's not designed for people with autism Why labeling autism or any neurodivergence or a person with disabilities or differences as a person with superpowers is inappropriate and leads to “inspiration porn” How the brain of a person with autism differs from an the brain of an allistic (non-autistic) person in terms of how the brain integrates information What self-care might look like for a person with autism - and how it looks very different than self-care for allistic people Links mentioned: Work with Angela: Differencepress.com Book: It. Adam is leading the way in the addiction, recovery, and mental health communities, not only helping so many through tireless work, but by walking the walk and living by example. The dad and entrepreneur is coaching and mentoring so many, building The Hero Project, running a 5k EVERYDAY, and still finds time to sit down with me to share his experience. I need to run this back with Adam and try to shut up a little more next time so he can just talk, but I couldn't help but keep sharing in this conversation that I loved so much. He's 17 years sober, and he attacked his recovery the only way he knows how, at 110%. That's how he's wired, and he puts that same energy into everything he does every single day. Join co-hosts Richard Coyne & Bill Zahller as they interview guests who left successful careers to pursue a different path on the Road Less Traveled Show! In this episode, we spend time with Emily Cortright and Adam Roberts! Emily and Adam are both aerospace engineers. They realized that they needed to diversify the source of their income from just relying on corporate America. In 2013, Emily got her real estate license and began buying single-family houses to flip and hold as rental properties. Since then, Emily and Adam have ventured into multifamily investing and notes. A bit more about Emily and Adam: Emily Cortright and Adam Roberts are dynamic real estate investors who have undergone remarkable shifts in mindset and investment strategies throughout their entrepreneurial journey. Emily and Adam initially held prominent positions as engineers in operations and supply chain at General Electric (GE) and were climbing the corporate ladder with ambition. In 2013, they made a pivotal decision to venture into real estate investing, marking the beginning of their wealth-building journey. Initially, Emily led their investing efforts, specializing in single-family flip and rental properties. As market trends shifted, Adam and Emily identified a growing opportunity in the multifamily housing sector and transitioned focus to large multifamily syndications in 2017. After 5 years dedicated to multifamily, Emily and Adam continued their journey of adaptation and growth in a different sector of the real estate market: notes and banking. This provided an opportunity for diversification and cash-flowing investment options for their investors. Emily and Adam strive to inspire others to embrace a wealth-building mindset and explore new horizons in the world of real estate investing. Adam is a Coach/Mentor for a prominent Multifamily education program, and Emily teaches a variety of wealth-building classes at Keller Williams offices across the country. Emily and Adam live in Fort Worth, Texas, and enjoy traveling, pursuing a healthy lifestyle, listening to live music, and spending time with their 2-year-old daughter. Contact Emily and Adam! Michael was born to a hyper-abusive drug addict mother who cut his finger off at 4 years old, a step-father you pray you never have, and a racist grandmother that pushed him into an identity crisis. By the time he was 9, his family was in poverty and often homeless all while being members of the Mormon Church. At twelve, he was adopted by his grandmother and quickly turned to drugs and alcohol to survive the continuing abuse. Despite multiple learning disabilities and not graduating high school on time, Michael found success in Corporate America in his early twenties. However, success only made things worse. Michael became morbidly obese, high and drunk daily, and ultimately self-sabotaging everything around him. It was not until finding his inner power through his Mirror Moment and choosing to do whatever it took to work through childhood trauma that his life began. Michael Anthony is the author of the best-selling book Think Unbroken and is a coach, mentor, and educator for adult survivors of child abuse. Michael spends his time helping other survivors get out of "The Vortex" to become the hero of their own story and take their lives back. Michael hosts The Think Unbroken podcast, teaches at Think Unbroken Academy, and is on a mission to end generational trauma by giving survivors the tools to be the hero of their stories. This is the Arete Coach Podcast, Episode, 1132 with host Severin Sorensen, with an episode titled, Beyond Excellence – The Art of Being, Becoming, and Serving as a Chair, Executive Coach, Mentor, and Facilitator. Honoring the life and legacy of Bob Nourse. This episode pays tribute to the life and contributions of Bob Nourse. We will delve into the 'power of peers and professionally facilitated peer executive groups' as well as the TEC-Vistage model, enriched with insights from numerous past and present TEC and Vistage Chairs and stakeholders. Vistage is the trailblazer of the professionally moderated executive peer group known as "The Executive Committee", and was established in October 1957. Last October marked Vistage's 65th anniversary, providing a perfect opportunity to reflect on TEC's early stages, growth, and evolution into Vistage. Central to this historical exploration is the extraordinary work of Bob Nourse - his identity, leadership journey, thought processes shaped by his personal experiences and era, and the synthesis of these elements into a purposeful framework for CEOs and peer executive groups, which he named TEC. In this episode, we explore how Bob Nourse's vision for a Chair's role still permeates the work of TEC and Vistage Chairs worldwide. We will also hear sage advice from many of these Chairs. This podcast was recorded following the the annual retreat of Keepers Of The Flame in Boulder, Colorado. This event also saw the launch of a new book by Severin Sorensen, 'Beyond Excellence' – The Art of Being, Becoming, and Serving as a Chair, Executive Coach, Mentor, and Facilitator, which celebrates the life and legacy of Bob Nourse. Sources for this book (and podcast) encompass historical records from Bob Nourse's family, testimonials from contemporary TEC and Vistage stakeholders who knew Bob, and material sourced from over 130 Arete Coach Podcast interviews recorded between April 2020 and June 2023. The Arete Coach Podcast seeks to explore the art and science of executive coaching. You can find out more about this podcast at aretecoach.io. This episode was produced on June 26, 2023. In 2019, he made his first investment in real estate by purchasing a side by side duplex in Appleton, Wisconsin. By 2020, he was able to leave his job and rapidly expand his business, acquiring a total of 25 properties within just 16 months, all before reaching the age of 27. Kyle's life mission revolves around helping thousands of individuals achieve true wealth through real estate. Witnessing countless people squander their potential while enriching others motivated him to give back and assist others in attaining success, just as he has accomplished.
