¡Feliz Navidad!
Workaholic Howard Langston (Arnold Schwarzenegger) wants to make things up to his son, Jamie (Jake Lloyd), and wife, Liz (Rita Wilson). He promises to get Jamie the hottest toy of the season, Turbo-Man -- even though it's Christmas Eve and the toy is practically sold out. As Langston hunts down the elusive gift, he runs into mailman Myron (Sinbad), another father on the same quest. With the clock winding down, Langston's moral code is tested as he starts to learn the real meaning of Christmas.
GET BACK TO DA SHOPPING MALL! It's an Arnold Schwarzenegger Christmas movie! His only Christmas film credit, and it couldn't be a funnier one! Arnold stars along Sinbad in his wacky attempt to get Anakin Skywalker, aka Jake Lloyd, a Turbo Man doll for Christmas, only problem, it's Christmas Eve and he forgot to buy it before hand!
Merry Christmas! We're dashing through the stores trying to find a Turbo Man toy with 1996's Jingle All The Way. Does this still hold up as a satire of the over-commercialization of Christmas? And what do an unmade Planet of the Apes movie and a plagiarism lawsuit have to do with this? Who wouldn't want to see Arnold Schwarzenegger square off against Sinbad in a battle for a Turbo-Man doll for the kid who played Anakin Skywalker? In 1996, mild mannered mattress salesman Howard Langston must get a specific Xmas present for his son Jamie. Of course, the toy is sold out and hilarity and hijinks ensue as Howard goes on a chaotic journey throughout the Twin Cities in Minnesota. 1996's Jingle All the Way stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a detached father and husband who constantly disappoints his wife and son. This week, Rob, Kurt and Dave will go over this Christmas “classic” and see if the laughs and sight gags still hold up almost 30 years later. Will this workaholic dad and husband save the day and realize what's most important? Or, will he actually learn nothing, be rewarded for being a terrible person and continue to live his crazy life? We'll look at that plus the theme of capitalism and commercialism at Christmas all wrapped up in a shiny holiday package. Turbo Man may be the real winner, but we're left wondering why no one called CPS! Jingle All the Way (1996) Directed By: Brian Levant Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad, Phil Hartman, some other ho ho ho'ers I don't think he needed money, but Arnold put out some real stinkers in the late 90's. I think things were really shitshitsville after True Lies, but even the period between Termintator 2 and True Lies were some low times. In that "after True Lies" time frame came "Jingle All the Way", where Arnold is a shit dad that promised that brat from The Phantom Menace a Turboman figure, so he has to fight Sinbad to get it. IMDB has this to say about it: "A father vows to get his son a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. However, every store is sold out, and he must travel all over town and compete with everybody else in order to find one." Who said you could eat my cookies!?"Jingle All the Way" is a festive family comedy that takes audiences on a humorous and chaotic ride through the bustling streets of Minneapolis during the Christmas season. Directed by Brian Levant and released in 1996, the film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Howard Langston, a workaholic dad determined to secure the elusive Turbo-Man action figure for his son Jamie, played by Jake Lloyd.Set on Christmas Eve, the story unfolds as Howard realizes he has forgotten to purchase Jamie's most coveted Christmas gift, the Turbo-Man doll. What follows is a madcap adventure through crowded malls, toy stores, and holiday chaos as Howard faces the relentless pursuit of the Turbo-Man toy, which has become the must-have item of the season. As Howard encounters equally desperate shoppers, including the persistent and competitive postal worker Myron, portrayed by Sinbad, the film satirizes the extreme lengths people go to during the holiday shopping frenzy. The narrative not only serves up a hilarious commentary on the commercialization of Christmas but also delves into the importance of family and being present during the holiday season. The comedic journey reaches its climax during the Turbo-Man Parade, a spectacle that combines slapstick humor with heartwarming moments. Ultimately, "Jingle All the Way" delivers a blend of physical comedy, memorable quotes, and a touching exploration of the true meaning of Christmas, making it a beloved and enduring holiday classic.Check out the merch: http://shop.backinthedaypodcast.comFriends of the Show1 Man Mafia (twitch.tv/1man_mafia)Jayke The Gamer God (twitch.tv/JaykeTheGamerGod)IB Best Gaming (https://www.tiktok.com/@ibbestgaming)Intro for the shopSupport the show'Beavis and Butt-head' Cover art created by Joe Crawford
"Jingle All the Way" is a fun and sometimes wacky film about consumerism and how to keep up with your word. My faovrite Christmas film because it shows toys, toys, and more toys. Especially the Turbo Man doll that's the "It Doll" of the year. Imagine having to buy a toy on Christmas Eve? THE toy that every kid wants. Good luck, buddy. And good luck with this film because it is cheesy for the most part especially trying to manipulate us feeling so bad that Arnold's character has to succumb to the guilt of of not being able to show up at his kid gaining a puple belt. How can we make it up? By buying the hottest toy of the season and will be forgiven. I wish there was more about not caring too much about what to receive. Then again, you're dealing with kids. Sinbad, a force to be wreckon with still to this day. I wish they did more justice to his character but he did as much as he could to dispell ffrom a typical "disgruntled employee". Arnold needed Sinbad, they need opposing forces going for the same thing, they both teach other things and did their best to teach us.Three out of four tokes.#jinglealltheway #christmas #arnoldschwarzenegger

Merry Christmas, Kaiju Lovers (and Autistic Lizard Productions viewers)! In this excerpt from the Patreon-exclusive livestream series, Nathan is joined by Brendan Morley of Autistic Lizard Productions to discuss a (barely) toku-adjacent Christmas movie, Jingle All Way (1996), which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad, and Phil Hartman, among others. Perhaps Nathan just needed an excuse to use his Arnie impersonation on mic, but this is one of his holiday movie guilty pleasures. Despite being critically panned, it has become a Christmas classic. The fictional Turbo Man, whose action figure (not “doll”!) is the hottest Christmas toy in the movie, and his sidekick, the pink saber-cat Booster, and archnemesis, Dementor, are what barely qualifies this for discussion on the podcast. Nathan and Brendan give some background and trivia on the movie and discuss their favorite jokes and scenes. “It's Turbo Time!” To see the full livestream, join MIFV MAX on Patreon! Matt had Laci watch the “beloved” “family” Christmas-present-hunt movie Jingle All the Way (1996). So… did she have a good time? Listener, she did not. But you'll have a good time hearing them commiserate about the experience for two hours. Why would a movie cast Arnold Schwarzeneggar to play a normal man? When is it inappropriate to buy a Christmas tree? And wouldn't this movie have been better if the quest for a coveted Turbo Man figure sent Howard (Schwarzeneggar) deep into the seedy Santa-sexual Christmas underbelly of Minneapolis? It's there in this movie if you look for it. He was a writer on Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, The Jeffersons, and Still The Beaver. He directed movies like Beethoven, Snow Dogs, The Spy Next Door, Are We There Yet?, and many more. But he's probably best known for directing The Flintstones movies and Jingle All The Way. And not only did he direct Jingle All The Way, he oversaw the creation of Turbo Man! Writer, director, and author Brian Levant joins us this week to talk about his early interest in the entertainment business, how he came to write for some of the most iconic television shows ever made, working on The Flintstones, designing Turbo Man, and his book, My Life And Toys. My Life And Toys is an original book of photographs and text by the noted director/writer/producer Brian Levant, presenting his extraordinary collection of animated feature and comic toys, including hundreds of iconic characters represented in figures, banks, games, lunchboxes, puppets, comics, windups, vehicles and items at the bottom of cereal boxes. This comprehensive and one-of-a-kind collection and book/work, itself, is presented in varied chapters. There are chapters here that include the author's Flintstones collection; others created while he produced features with Steven Spielberg; or those acquired while producing classic TV shows, like Mork & Mindy. And this is just a small sampling of what is in this exhaustive book, where the sum total has been acquired over the past 50 years. This is a book distinctive in its content; in both words and the hundreds of original photographs created exclusively for it. Brian's acclaim and success as a producer of popular culture film and television features allows presentation here of a distinctly individual and personal yet universally interesting book for collectors and the general public alike. The next sequel we are reviewing is "Problem Child 2" which was a favorite of mine growing up, so having the chance to interview Director Brian Levant was a blast. Brian talked about growing up outside of Chicago and how he loved TV from a young age. We also talked about his journey to his 1st job writing on Happy Days, where he later became a show runner, getting his vision for a new Leave it Beaver on tv, his 1st feature directing gig w/ Problem Child 2, his new book "My Life and Toys", Turboman, and more. Great chat. This week we are discussing the star-studded sequel "The Pink Panther 2". It was a sequel review that had us talking about how impossible it is to top Peter Sellers, Rue McClanahan, bullets being stopped by books, the endings we wanted to see, and so much more. This movie was perfect for our podcast name, some good, some bad, but it was a sequel that we had a blast discussing. Watch the review at sequelsonly.com/PinkPanther2 The next sequel discussed "Problem Child 2". For it chatted with Director Brian Levant. A very late Merry Christmas to all of you incredible listeners! Through a series of unfortunate events over BRBR's Christmas holidays, we were unable to post this one in time for the big special day. So even though it's now 2023 and the first week of January, we're still following through with the ever-so-ridiculous BRBR Holiday Special, with none other than Jingle All the Way! It's up to Arnie to salvage not only his family's Christmas, but also his relationship with his son Jamie by obtaining the hottest toy of the season, Turbo Man. And all I have to say is what a criminally underrated holiday flick. I mean, it's big bad action Arnold in a family Christmas comedy! Who wouldn't want to watch this? We have a secret society of mall santas, vicious reindeer named Ted, Arnold punching said vicious Reindeer named Ted in the face, and the late, and great, Phil Hartman being, well, Phil Hartman. It's one of those movies that if you know it, you love it. And if you don't? Well... then you may very well be one of our fun-spirited bad reviewers. Can Arnold find a Turbo Man, reunite with his son and remind these bad reviewers that it's "turbo time?" Tune in to find out! If you enjoyed the episode, please rate and share! It goes such a long way and I am so grateful for all of the support. And hey, if you do leave a review of the show, you will be featured as well! How neat is that? Also, be sure to give my official Ko-Fi page a gander. There you can get access to all kinds of cool perks and prizes from your very own shoutout on the show to choosing which movie I cover next. It's Christmas and Darren and Joe are getting in the festive mood by reliving (and in some cases re-enacting) their favourite movies, from Deck the Halls to A Christmas Carol. They also chat about presents and inventions that were discovered by odd quirks of fate.
It's Christmas time once again and Matty is joined by Case Aiken and Pat Edwards to talk the chaos of finding the perfect toy in Jingle all the Way. Will Howard find a Turbo Man for his son Jamie, and does this movie still stack up almost 30 years later?
Can Arnold save Christmas? Can we decide if this is a must watch for Christmas every year? Can we each get a Turboman under our trees?
