POPULARITY
The 2006 stoner comedy Grandma's Boy is a classic for multiple reasons: It's a stoner romp with great characters, it's fun without being dramatically crude or inappropriate (with some notable exceptions, of course), and -- perhaps most understatedly -- it mercilessly lampoons the gaming industry. Since E3 2021 is now over, we thought we'd do a quick episode all about potentially our hobby's most famous comedy. Just be wary of whatever's in Sophie's tin. It may just turn you into a deer. "Grandma's Boy" (2006) // Dir. Nicholaus Goossen Katie, Luke, and Taylor unpack the surprisingly wholesome stoner comedy from a bygone era that really wasn't that long ago. And we say "wholesome" knowing full well Jonah Hill sucks on a boob for quite some time in this flick.

1995's 'Heavyweights' IMDb synopsis reads: Plump kids are lured into joining a posh fat camp with the promise of quick weight loss and good times, only to find that the facility is a woodland hellhole run by a psycho ex-fitness instructor. Zach & Brandon take their first trip to Camp Hope and are surprised to see a stacked cast of three Mighty Ducks, the director of Bridesmaids, Grandma's Boy himself, Buster Scruggs, and Ben Stiller in an underrated villain turn. Both a sardonic spoof of 90's fitness gurus and a traditional Disney rag tag sports team flick, the boys discuss the pros and cons of this cult hit that's become a favorite of their generation.

Being stuck in quarantine can be nerve wracking. Your communications to the outside world is cut. You can't go to the club or bars to make a bad decision with some random woman or man whom you'll never see again after the next morning. So, what do you do? You could pull a Grandma's Boy with your Lara Croft figurine and do horrible things to it to curb your urges but that's overrated; every shut-in weeb have done something to their waifu figurine. In this coronavirus episode of B Movies and Beyond! we are down a Evan, but up a Justin and Jeromie. We discuss which cartoon we would like into a live action TV show or movie and what is our favorite contagion movie. We talk about the all of the lame new trailers that came out. We review the fantastic film where Paul Walker is a T-Rex in "Tammy and The T-Rex" (1994), "The Velocipastor" (2019) where ninjas fight a dinosaur, "Grandma's Boy" (2006) which Jeromie's parent did not enjoy, and "1917" (2019) to change it up. Enjoy the chaos!
Exciting developments this week, as my guests Jamie and Robin from The Hangover Chronicles inspired me to write my first 420-friendly rules. Swapping stoner recipes, hangover stories and the best way to turn a van into a podcast studio, it turns out, we didn't actually focus a whole lot on the movie. The team had an assignment this week. Scott, Jeff, and Reneé assigned the others a piece of media to enjoy (okay, so maybe enjoy isn't quite the right word). Jeff's pick was the early aught film Grandma's Boy. Keeping in character, Scott assigned Godfrey Reggio's film Koyaanisqatsi, *sung in a dark, sepulchral basso profondo.* Reneé said, let's change it up and listen to PJ Harvey's debut album Dry. What's going on my film junkies? This week on SuperFilmBros. kicks off our BONUS EPISODE/REQUEST series for the rest of the month and for our first episode in line we're bringing you Grandma's Boy requested by superfilmfan who goes by Instagram handle splattersaint! So after our catch up and news segment be sure to stick around as the boys discuss and give their thoughts on this cult classic. Grandma's Boy is a 2006 raunchy stoner comedy brought to you by the likes of frequent Adam Sandler cohort Allen Covert who also co wrote and is the lead actor. The film also stars Nick Swardson (who also co-wrote), Linda Cardellini (Freaks & Geeks/Scooby Doo) and Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond). There's also plenty of SNL alums who make appearances such as Kevin Nealon, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. The premise of this film is an easy one to follow. 35 year old Alex (Covert) is a tester at a videogame developer who has recently been evicted from his home that he shares with his hooker addicted roommate Josh, who soon comes to live with his grandmother (Roberts) and her two other roomates. Hilarity of the low brow sort ensues! I won't go into to much more detail about the plot but rest assured if you've never seen this movie beforehand there are gags and laughs aplenty (some do fall flat) for it's 94 minute run time and if that sounds like your thing go ahead and check it out for yourself! This is not a comedic masterpiece, but rather a tasty morsel of a film that's quotable for sure, we believe it's best enjoyed with friends who share the same comedic tastes as yourself (case in point stoner comedy). To hear our full thoughts on the film be sure and listen till the very end and don't forget to hit that like button if you enjoyed! We'll be back next week with a new BONUS EPISODE/REQUEST selection so stay tuned! As always folks thanks for hanging out and we'll see you next time!

The holiday for tokers and smokers and stoners has come and gone, but we couldn't help but capitalize on the rich genre of stoner comedies. Joined by cannabis enthusiast Jacob, we break down the movie about boys for boys. We highly recommend going back in time and watching this movie again as a teenager, because it only gets worse from there.

Please turn off your cellphones and join Doom & Fitz as they get nerdy, dirty, and oh so pervy with a lion, a monkey, and an elephant. For our 13th commentary, we smoke back to 2006 for this underrated comedy starring Allen Covert, Linda Cardellini, Joel David Moore, and Doris Roberts. The dudes kick back and discuss video games in depth, including spending a lot of time trying to figure out what their favorite Game franchises are, and whining about backwards compatibility. All of that and so much more, you don't wanna miss this one, gang!

even is a lucky number for an anniversary year right? Well, I wish that sentiment was a bit closer to the truth, but 2016 has been it a bit of a bummer for some on a number of different levels—especially for George (seriously, send that guy “Hang in there” Cat meme or some shit on Twitter whenever you get the chance.) One of which happens to be the loss of Doris Roberts, the senior actress of Everybody Loves Raymond fame; and because of this, we decide to record commentary for another role that she’s also best known for…a little film by the name of Grandma’s Boy. George and Andrew argue about whether or not they still hold this movie in any high regard at all, while they sit back and see whether or not Ser’s enjoying since it was his first time watching this happily-schlocky Happy Madison joint. Between stories of recreational drug use, Nick Swardson shade, Grandma’s Boy trivia, Thrill Kill shout outs, and whether or not Uwe Boll looks like that fucking guy who played Damien Darhk in season 4 of Arrow. This was one hoot of a show, and honestly, probably one our favorite commentaries that we’ve recorded yet. I know we’ve said it before (and will most likely say it again the actual anniversary podcast), but the countless nights of editing, writing, laughing, and crying would not have been possible without you guys—I’m sincerely grateful for everyone who has supported us. The T-shirts and posters are still being made but will hit the store really soon (we’re really sorry about the wait!) I’m truly blessed to have PPR, all of us here are, and it’s all thanks to you lovable shmucks. Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. Today we welcome guest Nick Swardson, star of my favorite movie "Grandma's Boy", but first we have a guest from a charity I support - "Peace Over Violence". She breaks down their annual Denim Day event and the services their organization provides. Nick comes in a little later and a LOT hung over... we should have taken bets on whether or not he was going to throw up during the interview. He fought through it for a while and I give him props for even showing up given how bad he felt. Sit back and enjoy!
