A former University of Arizona track and cross country runner turned competitive ultrarunner, Zach brings a unique perspective to the 250-mile distance, drawing on experience from UTMB's CCC and golden ticket races that set him apart from much of the field. In this episode, Zach breaks down the full arc of his race: the unexpected mental fog of running in a lead pack, a costly navigation blunder through the Fain Ranch section, a "hero dose" creatine experiment that left him feeling like he was having an out-of-body experience, and a deeply emotional low on the climb to Schnebly Hill that had him questioning everything — followed by one of his strongest sections of the race. He also reflects on sleep strategy (or lack thereof), the difference between giving up and quitting, and what it means to voluntarily choose suffering in a sport where so many face it without a choice. We also get his inside look at how Cody Poskin, Joe McConaughy, and Courtney Dauwalter race these things, a quick breakdown of his training approach and what he'd do differently, and why he'd come back and do it all over again.Plus: basketball at mile 107, OpenFuel's mission to reduce plastic waste in the sport, and the manifesting of future MBA podiums.
Shat The Movies hits the open road with The Hitcher, the 1986 horror-thriller that transformed an ordinary highway drive into pure nightmare fuel. Starring Rutger Hauer as the terrifying and impossibly calm John Ryder, the film follows a young traveler who makes the mistake of picking up a hitchhiker—and spends the rest of the movie trying to survive the consequences. Gene and Big D break down why Hauer's performance feels less like a human villain and more like an unstoppable force of nature, debate whether C. Thomas Howell's Jim is incredibly unlucky or catastrophically stupid, and revisit the movie's bleak, sweaty atmosphere that makes every gas station and desert highway feel hostile. Along the way, the guys discuss the film's infamous truck sequence, the bizarrely useless police force, and why this movie permanently convinced an entire generation never to pick up hitchhikers. Full movie info below While transporting a car across the Southwest, a young man picks up a mysterious hitchhiker who quickly reveals himself to be a sadistic killer. Framed for a string of brutal murders and hunted by police, the driver is forced into a deadly game of survival across endless desert highways. Good Friday reminds us that even when life surprises us and everything seems to fall apart, God is still working. Pastor Lewis Hauer of Morinville Alliance Church shares how the cross of Christ brings hope, life, and redemption.
This week, we're going to get into 1992's Split Second. We feel like this movie has to follow its own set of rules. Is it low-budget? You betcha. Does it have more cheese than an unwashed belly-button? Absolutely. Is it great? Hell fucking yes! This movie has a lot of problems, but it's from a bygone era where the VHS ruled the landscape, and this is a perfect late-night watch despite its shortcomings. Why are we doing this then? Because we need a control in the experiment that allows us to keep flushing TC 2000 down the toilet. Hauer's Harley hassles harlots, hoping the heart-stealer in hiding's hellacious hackles hear his heroism! Hogtie the bad guy! Heart blood trails! Really sneak Venomorphs! Oops all coconut? Strip club English breakfast! Durkin Dick breaches the door too quick! Unrealistic armadas! 60 ducklings worth of Dawn! A little extra turtle to it, and much, much more on this week's episode of The Worst Movie Ever Made! www.theworstmovieevermade.com

Welcome back everybody, to the Woody Allen Retrospective Podcast for another episode of ADJACENT! Today's episode came together in a really interesting way. It was sparked by an email we received from one of our listeners nearly a year ago... An email Donald has actually been holding onto for quite some time, waiting for the right film to land in his lap so we could properly unpack it... That moment has now arrived! This week, we're diving into a movie that opens up a broader conversation - not just about the film itself, but about this particular sub-genre, that being.. the way pregnancy is handled as a devloping narrative on TV and Film and sometimes.. when researching an episode, we stumble across some wild real-life events that later became movies in their own right - Yup.. its all related and brings things full circle Thank you as always for listening - a special thank you to all of our patrons and community supporters. ================================================================ For full cast details, user reviews, and more background on the film, check out:

Stefanie sagt: „Put your money where you want the world to go“.

Impressions (Acoustic) by Robert Alan Dunn Creative Commons CC BY SA 3.0 Robert-dunn-15 – Impressions-acousticSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today we enter the world of Strictly Come Dancing. The show is a phenomenon of British television, and our guest is the longest serving professional dancer on the series – the sparky Venezuelan-American dancer Karen Hauer. Karen spoke to us just before she learned her partner for the 2025 series would be the Team GB sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (aka Nitro from Gladiators) – but Karen tells us how she forges a partnership with a non-dancing celebrity, and about the pressures and pleasures of the iconic show. Karen Hauer is Strictly Come Dancing's longest standing professional dancer, starring in the show since 2012. Her partners have included Westlife's Nicky Byrne, The ‘Hairy Biker' Dave Myers, Jeremy Vine, Will Young, Jayde Adams and Paul Merson. Previously, she was crowned 2008 World Mambo Champion, was a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance USA, and principal female dancer in the original Broadway cast of Burn The Floor and subsequent world tours. With Gorka Marquez, she created the successful shows Firedance and Speakeasy, on which she was Associate Choreographer and Associate Creative Producer. "The Threesome" is an American romantic comedy drama film starring Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, and Ruby Cruz, directed by Chad Hartigan, and written by Ethan Ogilby. The film had its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, where it received positive reviews for its screenplay, three main performances, humor, and nuance in such a precarious situation. Deutch, Hauer-King, and Cruz were all kind enough to spend time speaking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. Rutger Hauer and Gene Simmons squaring off sounds like the recipe for a wild cult classic, but Wanted: Dead or Alive (1987) ends up being more lukewarm than explosive. On paper, it’s a hybrid of gritty crime thriller and high-octane action flick, but the way those genres are handled here creates a constant tug-of-war. The crime elements are played too straight, dragging the pacing down, while the action beats aren’t stylish or kinetic enough to pull the film into popcorn territory. The end result sits uncomfortably in the middle—not pulpy enough for “so bad it’s good” status, but not sharp enough to be genuinely gripping. The script is one of the biggest culprits. Dialogue is so flat and mundane that Hauer, who could carry almost anything with his screen presence, is forced to chew scenery just to keep viewers from nodding off. You can practically see him straining to inject some life into lines that might as well have been lifted from a TV procedural. Meanwhile, Simmons as the villain brings his usual menace, but the writing undercuts him—his terrorist mastermind never feels threatening so much as silly, especially when the movie leans on his boneheaded schemes. That said, there are flashes of entertainment value if you squint hard enough. The movie indulges in one of the purest forms of “Idiot Plot” with the villain’s bizarre tactic of stuffing henchmen into barrels and honking a horn to unleash them like evil jack-in-the-boxes. It’s laughable, but at least it breaks up the monotony with something memorable. A few of the action sequences manage to land simply because Hauer sells the physicality, even if the staging is clunky. In the end, though, Wanted: Dead or Alive is a middling watch. It doesn’t embarrass itself enough to be a riot, nor does it have the chops to rise above its B-movie roots. Instead, it drifts in no-man’s-land—a serviceable but unremarkable relic of the late ’80s action-crime craze. Hauer fans might find a few scraps of fun, but anyone else will likely forget it by the next morning.

This week we're going down under for a look at the 1989 post-apocalypse sports movie, Blood of Heroes starring Rutger Hauer and Joan Chen. Also known as Salute of the Jugger, it's a late entry into the Maxploitation wave of the 80's but rather than being the usual quest for water or women, it's an underdog story about a team of misfits who play a violent future sport involving a dog's skull instead of a ball. What's a jugger? Don't worry about it, baby! Will they climb the ranks out of their place beating up on village and peasant teams? Will they make it to the big city and win it all when they face the pros? Probably. I mean, it's a sports movie at heart and that's what usually happens in those movies.Blood of Heroes sports a significantly better cast than you're probably expecting with Hauer, Chen, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Delroy Lindo all slumming it. The production is also executed by a surprising cohort of filmmakers who we have to thank for the original Mad Max movies which explains why it's so competently made and looks so authentically post-apocalyptic from the people who brought us the subgenre in the first place.Join the Bring Me The Axe Discord: https://discord.gg/snkxuxzJSupport Bring Me The Axe! on Patreon: https://patreon.com/bringmetheaxepodBuy Bring Me The Axe merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/bring-me-the-axe-podcast/

Q&A on the film William Tell with actors Claes Bang and Jonah Hauer-King, and writer/director/producer Nick Hamm. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. The narrative unfolds in the 14th Century amidst the days of the Holy Roman Empire where Europe's nations fiercely vie for supremacy and the ambitious Austrians, desiring more land, encroach upon Switzerland, a serene and pastoral nation.
I think you'll enjoy this week's BEHIND THE LENS and the films we are discussing, but more than that, the filmmakers and actors I'm speaking with. Some jam-packed interviews today as we kick things off with my exclusive interview with actors CLAES BANG and JONAH HAUER-KING, together with writer/director NICK HAMM talking about his beautiful epic WILLIAM TELL. And then you'll hear from writer and executive producer CHARLENE DAVIS and director/producer DAFNA YACHIN discussing their new film, RELATIVE CONTROL. This first interview is one of those times I wish we could have done the interview in person; of course, I wish that with every interview. But in this case, these three gentlemen are so much fun and have such a wonderful rapport that I know that being together in person would have been an even bigger blast than what you're about to hear. I'm talking about CLAES BANG, JONAH HAUER-KING, and NICK HAMM and their wonderful film, WILLIAM TELL. Written and directed by Nick, based on the play by Friedrich Schiller, they have beautifully married history and legend and brought it to life in an indelible epic result. Then we shift gears and dive into RELATIVE CONTROL with the women behind this gem – director DAFNA YACHIN and screenwriter CHARLENE DAVIS. As you'll hear, Charlene and Dafna break down the film from script to screen. Written by Charlene, the script – her first after a decades long career as an attorney – is based on Charlene's personal experiences – was developed over a few years and speaks to not only the challenges of caring for aging parents, but caring for yourself as time marches on and the responsibility for caring for your parents overtakes one's own life. There is some magical casting here with Teri Polo as Sara and Patrick McDade as Sara's father Joe. Their chemistry truly captures the dynamic of a daughter and father navigating complex family dynamics. While Charlene focuses more on the script, Dafna dives into Anthony Berenato Jr's cinematography, developing a visual tonal bandwidth of lightness and bright tones versus the heavier subject matter, working with editor John Knapich, and some of the production challenges which involved a 14-day shoot, the impact of the pandemic, and shooting in 100 degree Delaware heat in July and August with the film set in the Fall/Winter. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Gee, I don't know. Who could it be...? Could it be....SATAN???? Look, if you're going to watch Split Second, leave logic at the door, forget everything you know about biology, physics, or coherent storytelling, and just hold on for one wild, wonderfully ludicrous ride. This movie is a masterclass in "so bad it's good" cinema, a staggering tribute to neon-lit nonsense where none of it makes sense, but you'll be too busy laughing, cringing, and cheering to care. The plot? A near-future London suffering from the Great Flood of Questionable Sets, where a grizzled Rutger Hauer, rocking sunglasses indoors and some of the best action-movie hair around, plays a detective haunted by a shadowy, possibly-mutant killer that may or may not be Satan himself. Or is he a mutant? Or some kind of sewer-dwelling rat-beast with demonic tendencies? We never really figure it out, and that only adds to the glorious nonsense. Hauer's character, Stone, has the personality of a rabid bulldog and the caffeine intake to match, which, let's be real, might be the best part of the entire movie. Every scene sees him grinding through his lines like he's auditioning for Die Hard meets Mad Max, and his chemistry with his awkward partner, Dick Durkin (Neil Duncan), feels like it was lifted from a buddy cop fever dream. The scenes where Durkin goes from bumbling sidekick to gun-toting maniac after his own rapid-fire character development are cinematic gems that feel like they belong in an entirely different movie—and yet, they're perfect. As for the villain, well, if there were a Golden Globe for “Most Bizarre, Undefined Movie Monster,” this one would win it. The creature's appearance is equal parts Venom and religious cyborg, and its motives? Who cares! Sometimes it's better not to ask questions. All we know is that it's drawn to hearts (as in, literally ripping them out) and seems to have an unhealthy obsession with Hauer's character, for reasons the movie wisely decides not to explain. Is the movie dumb? Absolutely. Is it chaotic? You bet. But if you're looking for a good time, Split Second delivers the kind of gleeful, cheesy absurdity that's just begging for a midnight viewing with friends. So grab your popcorn, turn off your brain, and embrace the gloriously baffling thrill ride that is Split Second.

Timothy's choice this week and he's gone for the 1986 thriller, The Hitcher. Directed by Robert Harmon and written by Eric Red, the film's production began with a script that was compelling enough to draw the interest of producer Edward S. Feldman. Rutger Hauer was cast as the enigmatic and terrifying hitchhiker, John Ryder, delivering a performance that would become iconic in the thriller and horror genres. C. Thomas Howell played the young protagonist, Jim Halsey, whose cross-country drive turns into a nightmarish battle for survival. The film's casting was critical, as the chemistry and tension between Hauer and Howell carried much of the film's suspenseful and psychological weight. Filming took place primarily in the desolate landscapes of the American Southwest, which provided a stark and haunting backdrop that enhanced the film's eerie and isolated atmosphere. The production faced numerous logistical challenges, including shooting high-speed car chases and violent confrontations in remote locations. Despite a modest budget, the crew's resourcefulness and the director's vision ensured that the film maintained high production values. The cinematography by John Seale captured the vast, empty highways and the sense of foreboding that permeated the film. If you made a mashup of Shat The Movies films, "The Blood of Heroes" might be the result. It has a dose of "Mad Max," a pinch of "Blade Runner," two tablespoons of "Robot Jox" and just a hint of "The Sandlot." Definitely an acquired taste. Rutger Hauer returns to a dark, wet dystopia in this 1989 sci-fi cult classic that spawned the real-life game of Jugger and reminded Dick Ebert of all the niche sports he discovered in the early days of the pandemic. "The Blood of Heroes" piqued the Shat Crew's curiosity in a way few movies have, leading to questions about post-apocalyptic aristocracy, water conservation, armor design, measuring time in stones, nerd dream girls and the logistic of carrying large furniture as luggage.
