Universe, what's good?! Today's episode features the lovely Sara Olsher of Mighty + Bright!  Kelsey's five-year “Cancerversary” is approaching on November 11th, and with her recent BCI results, she has been exploring additional options because she has been advised to continue Tamoxifen for another five years. Kelsey suffers from ovarian cysts, fatigue, nausea and has been bleeding for over four weeks. Stay tuned as she continues to work on bettering her health! Speaking of tough times, Sara Olsher is no stranger to them. Sara's bravery in telling her story is astounding, as she has gone through so, so much these past few years. The losses and curveballs have changed her tremendously. As family and friends suffered from breast cancer, she was also diagnosed with this dreadful disease. Surprisingly, she has tested negative for mutations. In life, we have the option to let situations defeat us, or we can alchemize them into something purposeful. While she had already helped families understand divorce with charts and books based on her own experiences, she would also be able to draw inspiration from her diagnosis and has expanded her business to also help children understand cancer.  Studies show that children respond better to the truth, and Sara is on a mission to break down stigmas associated with adversity. She does it with beauty, style, and grace! Sara is truly an inspiration, and we hope this interview helps you if you are having a rough patch. Universe, what's good?! Today's episode features For the Breast of Us, an advocacy organization for women of color! Launched in March 2019 by Jasmine Souers and Marissa Thomas, FTBUS is on a mission to bridge a gap in representation. When Jasmine and Marissa were diagnosed with breast cancer, they hoped to find women who looked like them that were also experiencing may of the symptoms and feelings they were. After falling short, they decided to build their own table together, turning their pain into purpose.   If you have been longing for representation that is based in reality, this episode is for you! We discuss shortcomings in the community, as more African-American women are diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) than their white counterparts. Clinical studies are often disproportionally white, with only 6.2% of black women represented. This is leading towards more deaths within the black community. Something clearly needs to change!   If you would like to reach out to either Jasmine or Marissa, you can find them on their website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.   Don't forget to sign up for updates! For tonight's episode, I'll be airing my appearance on episode 24 of The Intersection of Cancer and Life, which was a roundtable episode with Emily Garnett, Kelsey Bucci, Tina Conrad, Leanna House, Mimi Hall, Lindsay DeLong, and myself! --- For the Season 2 finale, we wanted to switch the conversation up a little bit, so I'm welcoming six other breast cancer podcasters onto the show for a round table conversation. It's not often that you get a group together like this, a half-dozen total strangers, bonded only by our need to talk about our illness in this way, but I can't even fully capture what an amazing group this is. We had so much fun, and I hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording. The show will be taking a brief break over the summer, and be back in a couple of months with a deep dive into breast cancer. We'll be talking to researchers, doctors, advocates, and unpacking the challenges of all aspects of life with breast cancer in anticipation of October's breast cancer awareness month. I've been so honored to continue to share these conversations with you, and am so excited to keep going. Have a wonderful summer! --- You can find The Intersection of Cancer and Life over at https://www.mouthoffnetwork.com/the-int… and subscribe on Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, and Apple Podcasts.

Universe, what's good?! Today's guest is “DJ Breast Cancer,” Tina Conrad! A fellow podcaster, Tina delves into her motivation for starting a breast cancer podcast. A stage three survivor, Tina was acquainted with the beast through her mother's diagnosis. While they did not test positive for the BRCA mutation, they have both become advocates for a cure. Tina tells us about her diagnosis: the good, the bad and the ugly. One little-discussed aspect of survivorship is collateral damage, and Tina is no stranger to it. Dedicating her show to Pink Sister Sandy Clausen, Tina aims to give listeners the lowdown on what true survivorship looks like. Locally, we recently lost a friend to stage four breast cancer, so this episode is dedicated to her memory. Thanks to everyone who made the Fearless in Fuchsia Luncheon in Toledo a success! It was such an honor to represent Salvatore Capelli and Sofi Stella as a survivor model. When the numbers come in, we will let you know how much The Victory Center was able to raise for cancer patients. It was an incredibly magical day. Apologies for getting this interview out a week late. Thank you Kristen for showing up and being flexible! Kristen discusses her unique experience as a Previvor without the BRCA mutation, as well as her motivation behind starting Brilliantly. We are all one diagnosis away from a completely different life, and Kristen found this out after being a Museum Curator before starting Brilliantly. While discussing the topic of dating, the conversation veers towards what is necessary to date in a healthy manner. It is easy to want to fast-forward to dating after a mastectomy to grab onto some kind of normalcy that disappears after undergoing such an invasive surgery. Not only is Kristen incredibly wise, bringing great tips for dating to the table, she's also bright as a penny. Tune in as we discuss her invention that is launching in September 2019. Universe, what's good?! Today's episode features Lisa Vento Nielsen, an Entrepreneur, Educator, and Executive known not only as Super Mom but the Founder of Balance After Cancer (formerly Career After Cancer). Lisa is a writer, speaker, career expert and cancer survivor. Listen in as we talk about how cancer rocked our worlds after diagnosis. As we discuss how our perspectives have shifted since having breast cancer, we dive into how Lisa was able to turn her pain into purpose. Using her skills, she has started an organization that helps survivors manage their careers. With the treatment, appointments, and surgeries it is easy to feel disillusioned when trying to bounce back and step into a better career path. Not only is she a 'Triple E,' she moms HARD. So hard, in fact, she has written a children's book to help children understand a diagnosis called I'm Strong, You're Strong, Everyone's Strong: What We Learned When Mama Got Breast Cancer.     This episode is packed with resources so you may want to have a notepad handy while listening! In addition to everything she does, she also rocks one breast like a boss. Just call her "Lisa with the one boob!" Her perspective is both funny and refreshing as she is not only a breast cancer survivor, she is also a 9/11 survivor. With quotes like, "I'm a fucking Amazon!" Lisa was an absolute joy to interview!
