This Halloween, instead of talking about the best horror movies of all time, we're talking about our favorite of the lowest rated horror movies of all time. Halloween is nearly here and to celebrate we're diving into the trashy side of horror. Yeah, it's Troma time! We'll take a look at some Troma films that might be light on horror but they are heavy on that toxic Troma goodness. Randy gets romantic with Tromeo and Juliet, Melanie sings the praises of Cannibal: The Musical, and Jesse actually brings the horror vibes with Blood Junkie. Before all that, though, we discuss a new movie that's been… how many years coming? Oh yeah, 40 years. Halloween Kills! Does evil actually die tonight… or is the Halloween franchise? For the 11th time. Randy and Melanie also talk about seeing Halloween Kills and John Carpenter's The Thing at the drive-in.We are also joined by Paul of Moose's Monster Mash to talk Troma because not only is he a fan, he also just released an interview with Lloyd Kaufman on his podcast! You know what's scary? The past. Like, the 1800s and earlier. You know what's more scary? The past but with ghosts and the Wendigo. Well, okay, people have believed in these things for ages but in horror movies they get to actually exist. This week we're looking at Historical Horror films. You know, creepy period pieces. We discuss the Vincent Price classic, The Masque of the Red Death, 1999's underrated Ravenous, and Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak. Plus, Randy's thoughts on the new Chucky TV series and more. Enjoy!Originally streamed live October 14th, 2021 via Facebook Live.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
More horror movie monsters! This week we discuss doll horror. No, not puppet horror. We did creepy puppets last year. We're specifically talking evil, demonic, and downright nasty dolls here. With the USA / SyFy Chucky series debuting this week it's only fair the sub-genre's poster boy takes center stage with our thoughts on Child's Play 3 and Cult of Chucky. Meanwhile, Melanie brings in the truly low budget fright flicks with Doll Factory. Before that, though, Randy and Melanie share their thoughts on even more horror! Their final thoughts on Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass and the new James Wan flick that has horror fans divided, Malignant. Hey, you see that new Spider-Man trailer? Yeah, you did. Everyone did. It broke trailer view records. We like that ol' Spider-guy fine but were not expecting to get so hyped for Spider-Man: No Way Home. We did, though, so on this episode we talk about it.We also discuss the new Hugh Jackman sci-fi thriller, Reminiscence. This movie is taking a bit of a beating but is it really worthy of a 38% on the Tomatometer? Plus, Randy and Melanie share their thoughts on Harley Quinn seasons 1 and 2 as a whole, Jesse dives further into the fanboy angering Masters of the Universe: Revelation with his thoughts on issue #1 of the show's prequel comic, and more. Westworld Season 4 promises “New Worlds”, The Witcher spin-offs abound, and is it not our turn to say #NotMyHe-Man? This episode we return to REACT AT THE NEWS! The new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe trailer gives us something to talk about. Mainly, that after the backlash Revelation received we've heard no backlash against this newest iteration that doesn't resemble the property at all. Ultimately, though, it's not made for us and that's fine.Plus, The final trailer for Marvel's Eternals gives us an indication that the film has a plot and a threat of some kind. Also, we review Nobody and PG: Psycho Goreman. A fun pair of popcorn flicks that know exactly what they are and deliver what they promise. On this live episode we review James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. Jesse took the night off but still joins Melanie and Randy in spirit (or rather, in the live chat) as the duo shower Gunn's twisted DC debut with praise… mostly. This may be the first DC film in a long time to get unanimous praise from the whole G-Crew. But is it being a DC film really that relevant?Don't worry, this is surprisingly a non-spoiler review. On a related note, Melanie and Randy also talk more about the animated Harley Quinn series. It pairs nicely with The Suicide Squad as it's almost as violent though maybe not as twisted. Or maybe it is. R-Rated DC films and TV series… the future is wild. Trailer talk, movie news, and what we've been watching. This episode of our weekly live show is a grab bag of entertainment goodness. We catch up on Rick and Morty Season 5 and Good Omens. Randy and Melanie recommend Shadow and Bone Season 1 and discovered that everyone is right, the animated Harley Quinn series is pretty good!Randy's new Who rewatch has taken him into the Chibnall era of Doctor Who. Has The Timeless Child gotten better with time or is it still an infuriating mess? Only Space-Jesus knows for sure.We also react at the TV & movie news! South Park to get 14 movies. 14?! The first film in a new Exorcist trilogy to drop in 2023. Exorcist trilogy?! HBO Max is going street pusher with free taste to non-subscribers. And James Gunn puts Martin Scorsese on blast… but not really. Finally, we wrap with some brief reactions to a few trailers including the Y: The Last Man TV series, the gender switched She's All That remake titled, of course, He's All That, and KATE. Last week, Netflix debuted “part 1” of Masters of the Universe: Revelation and all the angry fanboys collectively lost their minds. How dare Kevin Smith focus on a guuuurl in their He-man cartoon? How dare they attempt to inject character arcs, world progression, and a narrative that might actually (but didn't really) have some kind of stakes? It was a WHITE hot fury that burned quickly. Like, really quickly. By the time we got a chance to chime in with our thoughts on Thursday it seemed everyone was over it. Anyhow, we were just as excited to talk about Masters of the Universe: Revelation as we were to address the rather predictable backlash. Melanie even watched the show and, trust us, she wasn't too thrilled to watch it.That's far from all we discussed, though. Huge news in the world of Doctor Who! It has been announced that both Whittaker and Chibnall are out but when and how much Doctor Who can we expect in the next couple of years? We also discussed Kingdom: Ashin of the North, a special prequel episode to Netflix's fantastic South Korean zombie horror/political drama series, Kingdom. Plus, See You Yesterday, a tonally odd time travel film that mixes lighthearted teen-centric sci-fi with heavy social commentary. On this live, unedited episode of Grawlix Nights we learn the truth about Sarah Fier as we discuss Fear Street Part 3: 1666. Did Netflix stick the landing on the finale of the Fear Street trilogy? We do our best to avoid spoilers during our review. We also discuss the stylish though derivative action flick, Gunpowder Milkshake. It's basically John Wick but with a solid cast of predominantly female leads including Karen Gillan. Netflix is considering rolling out a new service it's calling N-Plus. So, what exactly is N-Plus? It seems that Netflix doesn't even know yet but they've been sending out surveys to random customers gauging interest in every potential feature.Coincidentally, just recently we were discussing features we wish the streaming services would adopt. Well, Randy happened to be one of those random customers to get a survey so this episode we break down every feature Netflix is considering. From unexpected features like recipes from Netflix shows to the most basic of options like being able to search or browse. Is Netflix seriously unsure if users would like to SEARCH and BROWSE through this potential new service!? What happens when you can't decide between a superhero movie, a young adult film, and a horror flick? Apparently a film so forgettable the movie studio almost forgot to release it. Well, it just hit HBO Max so we decided to find out. Also, feeds his Mortal Kombat excitement with the 2020 animated feature Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge. For once we actually get right to the featured topic and the featured topic this episode is REACT AT THE NEWS! We cover the week's notable TV & movie news. Wait… no Justice League talk? Originally streamed the day Zack Snyder's Justice League dropped we opted to give ourselves time to digest that 4 hour intestinal blockage. So, next episode we'll dive deep into Snyder's DC swan song. This episode, though, we discuss ANOTHER Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel that ignores the other sequels, a gender-swapped She's All That, social distancing at the Oscars, and more. Plus, maybe a little bit of the ol' #SnyderWatch. We just can't help ourselves, can we? This was meant to simply be an episode recapping our thoughts on Disney Marvel's WandaVision now that the series has concluded. And we do, of course! We catch up on the final two episodes of WandaVision, talk about the series as a whole, and how the finale left us.But wait, there's more! Melanie and Randy have been on a bit of a movie binge! The crew all finally catch up on some notable movies like Spider-Man: Far from Home, Bill & Ted Face the Music, and Atomic Blonde. Everyone is shocked to hear Randy watched Addams Family Values for the first time ever. Plus, Nicolas Cage goes Five Nights at Freddy's in Willy's Wonderland, Spider-man goes southern (and angry) in The Devil All the Time, A Promising Young Woman makes good on the Black Christmas remake's promise, and more. On this episode we REACT AT THE NEWS. Our favorite old school Flash to return to TV in Stargirl season 2. Also, Stargirl is a thing. A new live-action Superman movie is in the works but not the Superman you might be expecting. Oh, and Hollywood is finally remaking a movie that SHOULD be remade and Edgar Wright is attached to direct!Plus, the Mortal Kombat trailer broke the internet (as the kids say) and we're all about it. We love/hate I Care A Lot and recommend Freaky. First, though, we dive into the fascinating world of gaucho pants, Groucho Marx, and more.
